21 Best Bars in Tokyo, from Hotel Lounges to a Tequila Speakeasy | Condé Nast Traveler

"The look at this cacao-themed boite, in the Toranomon Hills Yokocho food hall, is medicine-man-meets-mad-scientist, with walls adorned with bunches of dried flowers, shelves lined with botanical infusions and baskets filled with palm-sized cacao pods on the counter. Shuzo Nagumo’s inventive recipes incorporate every part of the Amazonian fruit, in drinks like the cacao pulp fizz or the chocolately cacao Negroni. He collaborates with companies such as Cacao Hunters and Maison Cacao, who work with indigenous growers in Colombia. Seasonal fruit and locally grown flowers make it into tipples such as the pepper leaf tonic and lemon, rose and geranium cocktail. Food-wise, there’s a lovely selection of fair-trade chocolate and spiced sweets to pair with the drinks, but not much in the way of mains." - Melinda Joe

A beautiful concept that celebrates cacao in all its forms, from fresh cacao fruit to nibs, pulp, and refined chocolate, all crafted with a thoughtful zero waste philosophy. The atmosphere is elegant, artistic, and full of character, making it far more than just a regular bar… it’s a full cacao driven experience. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, especially Yuya, who guided me through the menu and made sure I chose something that suited my taste. in addition to the other individual who was also helpful. The recommendations were spot on. I tried the Cacao Mocktail Fizz and the Ice Kong (Regular), both are balanced, refreshing, and different than anything I’ve tried before. This place is a must visit for anyone who loves innovative mixology or cacao in all its beauty. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more of their creations.

High-end spot with incredibly creative, cacao-based cocktails. The bartenders were extremely knowledgeable and guided us through the menu. It’s a bit hard to find since it’s tucked inside a massive building, but definitely worth it. We didn’t do the full tasting experience (though it looked very cool) and instead ordered the mezcal cocktail, the whiskey one, and the cacao Negroni—every single drink was outstanding. On the pricier side, but a really unique and memorable experience.

One of our favorite bars in Tokyo. It’s a chocolate lovers paradise and an adult Willy Wonka experience. There are also amazing non chocolate focused cocktails as well. But our experience here is always top tier and at this point we have pretty much tried the entire menu. Also don’t skip over the food, it’s delicious. From the tacos to the Mole and then desserts!!! Service is always perfect & Yuya is an incredible bartender that brings us back again and again. Highly recommend coming here to anyone looking to have an experience unlike any they have had before.

One of the highlights of our time in Tokyo. Bartender, Yuta Urasato, made the experience at Memento Mori so very memorable for us. The drinks were well-crafted and unique, the service was exceptional, and the ambiance/decor were stunning. Definitely a must in Tokyo!

Would highly recommend checking out this bar if you’re in Tokyo! Drinks were phenomenal and the bartenders were very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their signature cocktail was my favorite. They also had good mocktails. Wished we didn’t have dinner beforehand so we could’ve tried the food.

What a cute hidden bar inside the Mori towers. 880 yen cover charge just as a heads up. Cute spot. Small and fits about 20-30 people max. Cocktails were well blended and 2000 each. Bunch of alcohol free choices too.

Came here on a bit of a whim as we were in the area looking for a fun bar to check out. We found Memento Mori, which is an upscale cocktail bar that focuses on chocolate-based drinks. While the price is on the higher side, these were some of the most creative and incredibly intricate drinks that I’ve had. Their Negroni was absolutely amazing, the cocoa nib infused drink was one of the best Negroni’s I’ve ever had (though some traditionalists would disagree). They even had a blue cheese infused drink that surprisingly wasn’t bad. The bartenders were all super attentive and tried to explain each of the concepts of their drinks and did so in English, which is appreciated. If you are looking for a cocktail bar and price doesn’t matter, jump in here - 100% recommend! It’s a cocoa forward, so be a chocolate lover!

Atmosphere: 9/10 Located within the Toranomon Hills Business Tower, Memento Mori exudes an upscale, jungle-like ambiance. The interior is adorned with lush greenery, prominently featuring cacao trees and beans, aligning with its cacao-centric theme. Despite its shopping mall location, the bar’s design elements create an immersive and atmospheric experience. The soothing, quiet music enhances the serene environment, though it may allow for overhearing nearby conversations. Drinks: 6.5/10 Recommendation: — The menu is stylishly presented, featuring photographs of most signature drinks and indicating the strength of each cocktail, which helps with decision-making. While the signature drinks come with unique presentations in high-quality glassware and minimal garnish, the flavors didn’t quite deliver. The cacao notes often overpowered the drinks, creating an imbalance that distracted from the overall profile. Coasters are present and fit the overall vibe. Service: 9/10 Service reflects the high standards typical in Asia. The team is friendly and professional—water, warm towels, and a complimentary snack are provided upon arrival. Prices are average for Tokyo, making the experience feel polished but not overpriced. As part of the Mixology Group, which operates several high-quality bars in Tokyo, Memento Mori continues their tradition of strong design and thematic identity.
