The story that was told within this museam left me without words. Totally heartbroken by the amount of suffering but also amazed by the strength and willingness to overcome all adversity. I highly highly recommend this museam! Where I struggled was the amount of noise. I was given headphones (which didnt work well) and while I was trying to listen to the audio recordings there were 3 other loud speaks playing different parts of the narrative simultaneously. Some of the screens didn't work which was quite frustrating as I was VERY interested. Regardless, the entrance fee is minimal and there is much to gain from this experience even though there is room for improvement in terms of presentation.

It was a family visit & everyone left intrigued with one aspect or another on the history of Dominican Republic. I hope it's a must see trip thats incorporated into the educational curriculum.

Highly recommend to get perspective on country's history. Got audio tour in English which helped. Used Google translate camera app to fill gaps. Small but well curated. Beautiful courtyard and small museum shop.

Essential museum. If you care about the future of the world you must visit. One of a kind guided visit to honor the memories of the departed in the name of democracy and freedom. 👏🌞🧡🙏🏽

Nestled in the historic heart of Santo Domingo, the Museo Memorial de la Resistencia Dominicana stands as a testament to courage and defiance. Its walls bear witness to the harrowing yet heroic tales of those who dared to confront tyranny under the Trujillo regime. As you wander through its solemn halls, you are transported into a world of clandestine meetings, whispered rebellions, and the enduring spirit of a nation yearning for freedom. The museum does not merely recount history; it immerses you in the pulse of a people's struggle, culminating in the fateful assassination of Trujillo—a moment that altered the course of Dominican destiny. Through evocative displays and powerful narratives, the museum captures the essence of resilience, reminding visitors that the fight for justice is both timeless and universal. A visit here is more than an educational journey; it’s a stirring call to honor the past and safeguard the future.

Most of this museum is in Spanish but if you're an anglophone, they have a free headset with an abbreviated English version so you understand the basics of what you're seeing.

Fascinating history of the resistance during the Trujillo era. Wall information is only available in Spanish, but headsets do a pretty good job of giving basic information. They are a little clunky in that a code has to be entered each time instead of just touching a button for "next." We used our Google translate app to instantly translate a lot of the information. Would be interesting to have the museum explore the idea of human rights more, but it does a good job of focusing on people.

It reminds me of the Holocaust Museum in Washington but in a much smaller scale. It does cover a lot of our grim history, specially the Human Rights violations during the Dictatorship of Trujillo.
