On the Grid : Memorial Park

"If you just finished your breakfast at Marston's, and need to walk off the french toast, take a stroll around Memorial Park. In the summer there is a free outdoor concert series. Check the calendar to see what is playing, pack a picnic, bring the kids, and a few bottles of wine (in brown paper bags) and settle in for a lovely evening!" - OSSO

Google
Fun park with a wide open geen space. A shaded playground and some picnic tables make it the perfect place for a birthday party or a Sunday outing. Saturday morning are busy due to the weekly farmers market. My kids love searching for the little "elf" men. How many can you find?

Google
Great everyday of the week, but best on Sundays in the summer. Music in the park, as well as other events. BYOB :)

Google
This is a wonderful pocket park. This park has a great children's playground separated from the large grassy field. The have a band pavillion which is used throughout the summer to host free concerts in the park. Memorial Park is a great place to take in a sunset.

A long time ago I used to attend school called Pinewood Academy Cornishon Ave @ Foothill Blvd which is now closed forever. There is See’s Candies, long run business. I see and came across by the Memorial Park such beautiful area with playground restrooms grass trails etc. So great. The kids & family or dogs really enjoy it so much with activities. Haven’t visited to this park forever. Missed the old days. Highly recommend for people visit at Memorial Park open 24hrs everyday. Very popular for performing music concerts. Nice view anyway. That’s all.

Google
This is a great park, lots of fun for young children, and their summer concerts are great. Great to celebrate a Birthday Party, we celebrated my daughter’s 18th Birthday there.

Google
Great park for great events. All summer long they have music in the park. We were there with USC-Verdugo Hospital to participate in La Canada's annual Memorial Day event

Google
Amazing park. Shaded/covered playgrounds, swings, big kid play area and little kid play area. Lots of seating for adults. Clean bathrooms. Love that it’s gated. We were there when the church across the street’s bells chimed. It made the park magical in my kids eyes! And to me honestly.

Beautiful Park, Fantastic Memorial weekend events, live music, food, drinks and plenty of activities.

Yelp
Nice little park with plenty of room to run around. The two playgrounds were well maintained.

Yelp
Memorial Park is a nice local park situated in the heart of La Canada. It's quite small compared to large city parks but offers enough room for kids to run around and play. Included in the park is a play area and ample grass space, and they even host live music events in Memorial over the summer (which is a ton of fun). People that visit this park are usually La Canada locals, and everyone is generally quite friendly and welcoming. The surrounding area is safe and quiet, and there is an elementary school located right above the park. I'd recommend visiting Memorial Park if you're in the area and want to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Yelp
Memorial Park is an AMAZING park to chill at, walk, or have a picnic. It is huge and spacious, with grass fields, and a playground with slides, swings, and more! There is plenty of shade and lots of trees. There is even a patio to sit at with benches. The park is relatively clean, but the grass is a bit sparse. My daughter went here with her friends, and had a great time, having a picnic in the grass. Make sure to bring your own blanket, the grass might have little bugs. Can't really complain, that's nature for you. Parking is relatively easy to find, since the park isn't usually very busy. I love this park, and definitely recommend visiting.

Yelp
Great local park with playground and lawn. Has a lot of events especially for national holidays. It's nice to visit especially when you want to be in a park and outside. Just realize that it is next to a busy street, and although the playground and such are surrounded by gates, you do want to be careful if you bring small dogs or kids who could possibly run onto the street to chase a ball etc (dogs have to be on leash but still, sometimes it's surprising how far the fast, small dog can get if you lose grip on a leash for whatever reason). On Saturdays, there's a local farmers market happening across the street which can be accessed by a pedestrian crosswalk. Go to it if you like that kind of thing or come at another time if you want to avoid being around more people.

Yelp
Great community park with music on the weekends beginning Memorial Day. This is the biggest park in the city and is nice to visit for the following reasons: 1) Two nice play structures for young children 2) Large area for picnicking, playing sports or running around 3) Several picnic benches under the trees for shade 4) It's always clean and well maintained 5) Farmers Market on Saturdays across the street 6) Music in the Park 2012 through Labor Day from 6-8 pm as follows: June 3 - Swing: Andrews Sisters Tribute, The Sisters of Swing June 10 - Classic Rock - Misplaced Priorities June 17 - Classic Rock - Padres Trail Project June 24 - Smooth Jazz - David Sagal Jazz Quintet July 1 - A Tribute to Elvis - Steve Roth July 8 - Big Band - The Jack Lantz Big Band July 15 - Soca & Reggae Music - Upstream July 22 - Blues - L.A. Bluescasters July 29 - Light Rock - Pacific Coast Highway (They are great!) August 5 - Country - Brian Lynn Jones & the Misfit Cowboys - Cars 2 movie after August 12 Traditional Irish/Celtic - The Fenians August 19 - Surf Rock - Surfin' Safari: A Beach Boys Tribute August 26 - Tribute to Neil Diamond - Hot August Night

Yelp
This is a nice park for the kids to grab some time to just play and be kids. It's conveniently located near stores, shops, and restaurants. Love this part of town.

Yelp
Having moved, I had to scope out new parks in my area. This has to be one of my favorite parks so far. There are shade sails all over so it's not super hot even in the summer. Parking can be hit or miss. If you go near pick up or drop off times for the elementary school behind the park, it's gonna be tough. Two sets of playground, both with mulch. A infant and older kid swing set and a tire swing. Decent bathrooms. Clean but old.

Yelp
Clean park along foothill blvd. They have summer concerts here with some great bands. The park is very clean and you can bring food and drinks to the concerts. They also sometimes have movies after the concert. This year they played Moana after the Past Action Heroes rocked out. The grass is green, and the play structure is in great shape. La Canada / La Crescenta has a bunch of nice parks, and Memorial Park is no exception. Enjoy!

Yelp
Yeah for park adventures! Great play structures for little kids and big-little kids Nice native landscape adventure trail. Open grass perfect for picnics, cartwheels, somersaults and soccer games Street parking Picnic tables Bathrooms The only negatives I found were: Limited swings Limited areas of midday shade
google avatar

Joyce G.

Yelp
Very clean. Play area for young kids. Several tables to use. Large grassy area. Gazebo where bands can play. Many community activities held here.

Yelp
This is a great location for for kids since there is a playground and a large field right next to each other. My 3yr old daughter loves to run around in the field with her ball, play for a bit in the playground, and then go for a ride on her scooter. Parking is usually never an issue but it does get pretty full on weekends. Highly recommend if you have kids to give this park a try!

Yelp
Nice park, smells a little bit of dog shit or diaper poop, I'm not sure. The only annoying part is the 210 freeway underneath

Yelp
This is a really nice park to take the kids to. There's parking in front of the park's doors, and the park is fenced in which is sort of interesting. I don't know if I've ever seen that before, but it looks nice regardless. I didn't actually notice if the whole park is fenced in so it's possible over by the field it isn't. Then what's the point of the gate? Anyhow, there are two play structures. A smaller one for kids 5 and under, and a larger one for kids 12 and under. My 3 year old likes both of the play structures but favors going on the bigger one actually so if there aren't a ton of kids around (which there hasn't been the times we've gone) I suppose it doesn't matter. Though there are a few areas that you'll need to keep a close on younger kids for. There could be some better benches throughout. There are picnic tables close by which aren't comfy to lean your back on, but if you just want to sit on a bench, there aren't any with really great views of the play structures. You have to sit on walls. There's a gazebo way on the other side of the park. Not quite sure why it's over there unless it's to get some attention to a different part of the park, or if people use it for weddings, but it looks nice from afar. Lots of people walking their dogs or kids around this park. It is on Foothill so there are a lot of cars driving by, but it doesn't feel too loud. I like coming here though as it's a great way for the kids to release some energy!

Yelp
Easy access to 2 playground areas for different kids plenty of parking public bathrooms which are fair. fenced from the busy road and the grassy area to play on. Lots of mature Trees and the canopy shade the 2 to 5 year old playground. The grassy area is great for soccer balls and picnics. The only thing that would be a little bit better is if the bathrooms were very clean and without graffiti I would give it another star.
google avatar

Leanne S.

Yelp
Great park. I'd give it 5 stars if the bathrooms were a little nicer. Two different playground areas, one for smaller kiddos and one for bigger kiddos. And the playground areas are fenced in so no easy running out into the street.. The favorite item from my observations seems to be the tire swing. Lots of spots to sit and a large green grassy area to bring a blanket. There's music often in the gazebo. Seems to overall be kept up well. There are several trees and such for shade. Farmers market is nearby on Saturdays!

Yelp
Music in the Park @ LCF Memorial Park. Its so hot, but there is a cool 210fwytraffic breeze blowing in just along foothill blvd. Feels great as the sun is setting and BIG BAND ensemble is doing their thing on stage! it!

Yelp
Nice park with shade. clean restrooms. on Saturday there's farmer's market across the street. Swings and slides. separate area for small kids. There is grass area next to the playground.

Yelp
clean, spacious, plentiful parking, amazing play area that's shaded and even has relatively clean bathrooms! large grassy area (although minimal tree, shade).
google avatar

Lusy M.

Yelp
They have a great shaded area over the playground. There are benches to rest while the kids are running around. There is a huge open field area great for flying a kite, or the kids running freely.

Yelp
I took my 19 month old daughter here yesterday after a mom from a different park told me about it and I'm so glad she did! This park is amazingly clean and well maintained. The BEST part is that the play areas are completely shaded from the sun which was very helpful yesterday when it was very hot. I also love that the park is gated so little ones can't out and the grass area is huge, beautiful and well maintained. My daughter had a blast and met some friends with great parents. She played for over two hours and normally in heat like that, I wouldn't let her be out that long but it was very cool in the play areas from the shades so that gave me peace of mind. This is officially my go to park.

Camille C.

Yelp
This is a great park for all ages. There are now shade canopies on both play structures which makes it great for any time of day. It's arranged nicely and there is a huge field for running around, flying a kite or playing sports. There's usually plenty of parking unless there's an event going on.

Yelp
Great park with plenty of green for kids to run around. There are two separate playground areas, where one is geared more towards toddlers and the other is geared more towards young kids. Playground includes all the basics: swing sets, tire swing, monkey bars, regular slides, twisty slides, tunnels, and climbing bars. On the other side of the park there is a pavilion area. It is pretty much the only area that provides constant shade on a hot day. There are picnic tables under trees where shade can exist- but only at certain times of day. There is plenty of parking- either on the street next to the pavilion or on the gate side of the park. Bathroom is close by and usually well-maintained.
