Came for the Roman walls, stayed for the rooftop views and breakfast that made me question my life choices—why haven’t I been here every day? Staff friendlier than my own family. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys comfort, history, and a good laugh at how spoiled they’ve become.

I recommend avoiding. After albergues on the Camino, I treated myself to what i expected would be fancy for a rest day. Given the price and hotel rating, i expected a moderate amount of comfort. But it was gross, and a huge disappointment. We immediately asked for refund and moved out. It proved to be outdated and uninspired, best suited for the budget businessman. And worse was that the room was dirty, with squished mosquito blood streaks on the walls, unidentified smudges on the sheets, and hair on the toilet seat.

The hotel is literally a short stroll from the bus station so very handy. We had a beautiful room at the front with a balcony which was fabulous to use. The street below is a normal shopping street which had buskers everyday which was nice to hear in Spanish from above. The view of a church nearly opposite was nice also. The outside area upstairs in the bar / restaurant was extremely nice and had a god set price dinner available every night. The breakfast was good too. The location is literally just around the corner from the main square and Cathedral. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. the square was lively every evening with things for kids too. Do not forget to visit the Roman House which is in the lane behind the hotel and very easy to miss. Staff were very helpful with all our queries although conversation was fun as they had limited English and I had no Spanish . . . . . this was not a bad thing as we wanted to visit Lugo which is a real Spanish City and not big tourist location. Thankfully we had Google Translator. I cannot recommend this hotel or the staff high enough, if you go to Lugo, stay here .

This is rated as a 4 star hotel. |2 main points at issue.|1) There is one entry point in to the hotel with a series of steps to reception. There is no ramp and certainly there was no one to assist me with my suitcase. There is a disability mover at the entrance but in 2024 but no one was there and the vast majority of people can manage suitcases/ prams, wheelchairs, using a well designed ramp. I would have thought would be a very basic feature. |2) No communication to hotel guests regarding accessing level 6 when it’s closed due to a function. I stepped out of the lift expecting to eat lunch, only to be told by someone not in the hotel uniform that it was closed to me.Full stop. I found it rude that as a hotel guest I was not spoken to by a member of staff. Why was this responsibility handed over or taken over by a member of the public? All this could have easily been avoided if fontina had the foresight to post notices in each floor. I had no idea if the restaurant was going to be open for dinner. I was just told there was a wedding and to go. |Smaller issues: |The person who checked me in gave me no information on WiFi, and I had to ask for a map. |Zero interest as to whether I wanted any tourist information. |no soap- only a dispenser and not any particular brand. |This is not 4 stars, sorry guys.||TV selection. Great if you speak Spanish but not one English Channel; not even the news.

Despite being the oldest hotel in Galicia, the Hotel Mendez Nunez is modern, comfortable and overall amazing! We wanted to drop our bags early and instead were able to check into our room for a much needed rest. The food at the Terrace is amazing. And the staff are quite friendly. I will absolutely stay here again!

The room was really nice - but we could have used a rail in the shower

Stayed here as part of my Camino trip. Clean comfortable room. Room fridge stocked with water and restocked each day if requested at the front desk. Pleasant breakfast. Helpful staff. Only fault, ( and why no 5 ) Kept having to get the room card reset !

Absolutely great hotel, easy to store our bikes which was crucial. We had to leave another hotel in Lugo that same evening because they would not allow us to store them. Very friendly gentleman at the reception, very supportive and great room too. Thank you very much!
