Ordered a +$20 fish sandwich and got a slimy piece of partially grilled fish on a roll. Literally nothing else - no lettuce, tomato, flavor - just slimy undercooked fish. It was probably one of the grossest things I’ve attempted to consume and couldn’t eat it. I literally have zero idea how this place has good reviews. My husbands lobster roll was average to below average. Would never recommend this place.

Google
Wanted a fresh fish sandwich and was advised to come here. Fish was fresh, but flavor is meh. Fish is either baked or steamed (which causes a soggy bun). Wanted fried but this is not an option. Crab cake taste processed with surimi (not real crab meat). Struggle to find a place to eat. Kinda just a quick grab eats for beach goers.

Google
Love this little local fish market! We were on Aquinnah for a week last year and bought fish at least 3 times… We’re back again this year and just got home with some nice halibut… Friendly and knowledgeable staff! Highly recommend 👌🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

Google
Stopped by here for some takeout and was seriously impressed! The lobster roll was packed with fresh, tender lobster meat on a perfectly toasted bun. The clam chowder was creamy with a rich flavor. The fresh lobster bisque was buttery, and brimming with that sweet lobster taste. Honestly, I couldn’t pick a favorite—they were all that good! On top of the great food, the people working there were super friendly and helpful. It’s always a bonus when the service matches the quality of the meal. Definitely looking forward to going back and trying more from their menu! Highly recommend for anyone craving top-notch seafood!!!

Menemsha Beach is an absolute must-visit! Grab a hot, buttery lobster roll from Menemsha Fish Market—the best on the island—and settle in to watch the beautiful sunset. The beach offers breathtaking views, making it the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. Don’t miss this iconic experience, it truly captures the essence of Martha’s Vineyard!

Google
Everything looked so perfect. Old fishing village vibes, dunes, fishing boats, lobster traps, and several fish markets along the piers. I was imagining $7/lb Atlantic cod, $5/lb lobster and $20 lobster roll stuffed with huge portions of lobster meats. Well, let me admit I was wrong. Even though I couldn’t complain anything about the taste (it was quite delicious) I was shocked by how small was that $29 lobster roll was. Contracting to many previous reviews here, this place is perhaps a tourist trap. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is and the owner is entitled to maximize his/her profit of course. Perhaps, the line cook was having a bad day and someone - that would be me - walked in 10 minutes before closing and unappreciatively prepared the lobster roll. It was quite tasty so I can’t advise you against patronizing this market, but you may want to ‘check out’ other people’s lobster roll before placing an order if small portioned lobster roll could potentially bother you.

Fresh seafood, huge clams, friendly owner, nice price. Definitely recommend!

Google

Yelp
Bottom Line: Mostly a seafood market but there are some prepared foods, like Lobster Rolls, that you can order. My husband and I went to Menemsha Fish Market for lunch. I love the nostalgic sea shanty look of the building and that it sits right on the Menemsha Basin. With the commercial boats out back, its a great reminder of how hard waterman work and how fresh the seafood is here. As a seafood market, I would give this place five stars. If you have a kitchen to prepare your seafood there are lots of fresh looking options and live lobsters with claws that are easily the size of my hands. If we had to buy mittens for those lobsters they would wear a ladies size medium. As a lunch spot, the take out menu options are somewhat limited but what we got tasted great. We ordered two cold lobster rolls, two cans of soda and a cup of clam chowder. It was a cold day so without many other people around we were able to enjoy our meal at a makeshift table outside - a huge wooden cable reel turned on its side. We were staying at a hotel so we didn't have access to a kitchen but if we did I think I would have been here daily to peruse the lobster tanks and display case. In the shoulder season it was easy for us to get a parking spot across the street. The staff were friendly.

Yelp
This was a favorite on Cape Cod. We loved everything about our visit, so we came back twice. The experience starts with getting there... the whole micro area on the beach & marina feels idyllic. We rode bikes from another part of the island, so this felt like an oasis at the end of a long ride. Walking into the perfectly weather & time worn store feels like the Cape Cod I envisioned, sandy and listening to Carly Simon songs. Service is friendly & the food is excellent. We loved sitting on the wooden reels in the sunshine, facing the marina. We tried many of the take away offerings. We thought this was the best lobster bisque. We came back for full lobsters & BYOB. Worth noting is the excellent quality & variety of souvenir sweatshirts, towels, etc. I bought a couple to remember the perfect East Coast ambiance of this place. Seriously an inspiring little spot, worthy of books and movies and salty characters.

Yelp
Great chowder and bisque. I'd pass on the lobster rolls and mac and cheese. Friendly service. Great place to bring some beers, grab some fried clams and watch the sunset. Tourist destination.

Martin W.

Yelp
Another great lobster dinner. We went with a 2 and a 5 pounder. A tradition every summer.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Best lobster bisque on the island hands down. Friendly staff. Beautiful views right outside to enjoy your bisque. Perfection.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Delicious lobster roll that was fresh and full of flavor. The service was efficient and quick, and the view is beautiful!

Esss E.

Yelp
This place is so inconsistent. You never know quite what you're going to get. The other day we stopped in for takeout clam chowder because what we had a couple weeks ago was so delicious. Not this go around -- tasty, creamy clam broth that was mostly potatoes. For the Best Chowder on the Vineyard award it should be much better. Friendly service and they're open all year.

Tu-Quyen P.

Yelp
This cute little spot in Martha's Vineyard has a great lobster roll and a good clam chowder if you prefer it less thick. Fun atmosphere and limited outdoor seating is available.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Clam chowder was super creamy and delicious. Definitely try some if you are in the area! There's not a lot of seating, just one or two tables by the water so it's more of a pick up & go kind of place.

Savina P.

Yelp
Always great fresh lobster rolls and quahogs Nice people too Love the location. Can walk over and watch the sunset after.

Susan S.

Yelp
Just stopped in for a quick bite. Ordered the stuffed clams and the stuffed scallops. Both were very fresh and delicious. Had a taste of the lobster bisque and it was awesome. Stop in if you're in the area.

George S.

Yelp
Very convenient but don't order the clam chowder. It's more like clam broth with a few potatoes and clams in it. Instead, order the lobster or raw seafood.

Kai R.

Yelp
Still our favorite spot! They have a fish cake that they make with rice flour that is so good. Can't stop eating them this summer.

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
Grab your food and head outside to find a bucket you can sit on in a wonky table with the sun cooking you. This place is better for grab and go. Zero options if you're vegan- FYI.... no salad or sides that are plant based. Lobster roll was good- I chose the hot and it was small and pricey but fresh. I can't say it was the best I've had, but it was good. Overall though not my kind of stop and would probably not return.

Chris E.

Yelp
Well let me tell ya... if you want great tasting hot soup. Try the lobster bisque, it excellent. try the clam chowder it's mmmmmm... been coming every day for a week.. they have a lot of deals on seafood. They also have souvenir shirts and sweat shirts and hats and other items. Ok ok ok... went back today and got the steamers... 1 # ain't enough, they are Devine, they were definitely awesome... I would recommend minimum 2#s to 5#s they are that good... Be prepared to eat in car or outside. Or take the bags home and eat at home.... It is a great experience I will not forget.... Thanks, from the mountains of North Carolina.

Juan P.

Yelp
This is based on our experience today, picking up a couple of lobster rolls for lunch. Not good. Not good at all; maybe we had very high expectations based on the experience our friends had a few weeks back. We had hot lobster rolls, which were mediocre at the most. For 29 dollars you don't receive value for your money. The service is ok, they are attentive, period. It's a nice, set up for a joint right on the beach. That's nice, but it doesn't worth 29 bucks for a lousy lobster roll.

Melanie J.

Yelp
Fresh caught fish for purchase right off the dock! Also, if you're hungry, why not have it steamed and enjoy it immediately while sitting on the bench and taking in the serene water? Stopped by this cute market during a tour and really appreciated this stop for freshly steamed fish! I don't think I've ever had such freshly steamed fish before....it's makes a huge difference as it literally melted in my mouth. Great experience.

Thomas S.

Yelp
While some prefer the lobster roll next door at Larson's, Stanley Larson runs a great market next door at Menemsha Fish Market. If you've been to Philadelphia, I think the fish and lobster markets on the island are similar to Tony Luke's and Tony and Nicks for roast pork and cheesesteaks - same Italian family but different competitive establishments. This market has great chowder, and has hours that are a bit more accessible than next door, which we love in the winter months. We also keep an eye on their Facebook page for specials, like fresh crabs. Everything here is the real deal and fantastic.

Nam N.

Yelp
Warning: don't go here for the lobster roll. $29 very dry, not fresh, and not half a pound. The lobster bisque was watered down. Not fresh at all. Spend your hard-earned money near the port or another restaurant.

P N.

Yelp
Small place in a far off corner of Martha's Vineyard and off the tourist path and awesome food and service!!! There are only tables outside and it was a gorgeous day to enjoy the delicious local seafoods. My husband who doesn't eat raw oysters was surprised how good their local oysters were and ordered a second round!! The local lobsters was also different than the regular Maine lobsters, very delicious indeed! We were so happy eating all the food, we left with souvenir T-shirts of the shop to remember the awesome place. It was 100% worth the trip to that end of the island!!!

Nataline J.

Yelp
BEST LOBSTER ROLL - I ordered the hot roll, wish I would've also ordered the cold I try. Clam Chowder had a lot of potatoes in it but it was delicious! Great spot. Next time, if I'm ever able to make it this way again, I'll grab the roll and head over to the beach and catch the sunset. DO NOT SKIP on this gem! Took a bunch of photos, unfortunately none of them were of the food. It was literally too good to not eat right away! Limited seating available outside.

Kelly B.

Yelp
Very authentic fish market, right on the dock. We stopped in for buck a shuck, which was a fun find on the island after paying 3.50 each for oysters. But the oysters weren't that good. So you get what you pay for I guess. The lobster bisque was more like tomato soup, I couldn't find much lobster in it. Overall, just ok.

A J.

Yelp
Wonderful fish market preparing lobster dinners with stuffed quahog & coke slaw, raw clams & oysters prepared on a tray to take to the beach. We forgot our bag of fabulous lobster rolls at the store & drove back to Oak Bluffs. Store Manager Lanette reimbursed us for the lobster rolls! Can't wait to go next summer.

Teena S.

Yelp
The lobster roll was delicious. It's a nice size for 1 person and won't fill you up. If you are a big eater, you should do their lobster roll and lobster bisque soup. Son loved the grilled cheese. The lady (Australian) who works here was really nice and followed up on my order. A great place to pick up some good seafood and eat on the beach. There were a lot of people ordering and waiting for food (after 1 PM) so that's a good sign.

Dan P.

Yelp
I have always been a Larsen's person and have walked by here for a million years and never tried it. Today, during the pandemic, I decided I would try the raw bar/lobsters here. The restaurant was out of a lot of stuff I wanted: oysters, Steamer clams, and mussels. So we ordered little necks on the half shell and cooked lobsters with butter. Here I comment that this restaurant appears to be better staffed and organized than other, similar restaurants in Menemsha. We got our food much faster and with less standing in line than at other similar restaurants. The staff comes outside the restaurant to talk with people, take orders and hand out receipts. Everything seems pandemic safe since you don't go in the restaurant at all. Back to the food. The little necks were delicious. We found them better than other raw clams we have had on this visit to MV. We came back and ordered more another day. The lobsters were also good. They are perfectly cooked here as opposed to some other places where they tend to be overcook lobsters. We returned another day and ordered bisque, which was good. I don't know whether they gave what comes off the Sysco truck or if this is house made. Either way, I will order it again. We also bought swordfish steaks that we cooked at home. As is not surprising, the steaks were fresh and delicious. Although I have neglected this restaurant/market for years, I will not do so in future.

Christie L.

Yelp
My husband and I got the Lobster Sunset Dinner (1.5lb lobster, clam chowder, stuffed clam and coleslaw) and cold lobster roll! Everything was super fresh and delicious. The fresh boiled lobster did take some time, but that proves that it is made fresh to order. My friends got the hot lobster roll which was more expensive and smaller than the cold lobster roll which was quite sad. Definitely go with the cold lobster roll! They ran out of the seafood nachos by the time we got there, so next time I'll be getting there earlier!!

Greg K.

Yelp
Menemsha is the real deal. Those boats at the docks? Bringing in the daily catch. They'll shuck the oysters for you - bonus! They were so fresh, so wonderfully briny. We were there 2 out of 3 nights during our stay on the Vineyard, because there's nothing like fresh seafood you can prepare at home. Great view of the water, just proof that the Vineyard's true roots still exist and can be found.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I stopped by for some seafood to bring home for later with the family. We were in luck as the staff came out with a fresh tray for tasting their clam chowder and lobster bisque. The three of us agreed that we had to have the bisque which was creamy silky and delicious. So off we went with scallops and lobster bisque. Our meal was complete with steak, fresh salad from the garden, great weather and great company. The scallops were fresh and very tasty. An added bonus was that the price was less than the down island seafood shop.

Jess R.

Yelp
Amazing! Decided to do the lobster bake for lunch which included two 1.25 lbs lobsters, steamers and a chowder! Also got two oysters while we waited for the food! Everything was so fresh! Best lunch we had on Martha's Vineyard!

Sm C.

Yelp
Best fish on the island. Beautiful location. Highly recommend for the freshness of the fish and the expertise of the owner and his employees.

Yelp
I stopped by here this past Saturday afternoon with my wife for lunch. We arrived at the Menemsha Fish Market at around 1:45 PM and we were the only customers in there. The market consists of a couple of display cases with random seafood in it like halibut, smoked bluefish, shrimp, scallops, cod, salmon, etc and then an area with lobster pens that's are really filled up with lobsters. Besides that there are a set of bookcases which have stuff like hot sauce, shot glasses, cozies and other pantry items and then they have a cooler with all of your cold drink needs. Finally behind the counter they have some art as well as t shirts for sale. For lunch on this day I decided to order a crab cake sandwich with a cup of clam chowder while my wife went with the sunset special which consisted of a 1 lb lobster with a cup of soup, stuffed clam and cole slaw. After waiting around 20 minutes for our food (no doubt for the steamed lobster), it was handed to us and we went out back to eat it. My crab cake sandwich ended up pretty good as the bun was toasted nicely and the crab inside the cake had some good flavor. I also enjoyed the clam chowder as it was thick and creamy with an ample amount of clams. My wife enjoyed her meal enough that we actually came back to Menemsha Fish Market the next night for dinner and both ordered the sunset special. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I really enjoyed the fresh and tasty seafood and thought that the prices were good as well.

Spencer M.

Yelp
Absolutely the best sea food in the country. You can really taste how fresh it is. My family and I come here every summer and we can never get enough. Best lobster on the island.

Gyamfua G.

Yelp
This place encompasses everything that is good and great of New England people and the food they harvest from the sea. My group was brought here by our tour guide Craig..though it was close to closing time they had flavorful samples of their house made lobster bisque and clam chowder for us to sample. The fish market like most on the island had a huge selection. There was a live lobster tank for folks to pick out their choice of fresh caught lobster. Unlike other fish markets this one also offered smoked little neck clams and mussels. They also offered cold and hot lobster sandwiches and no matter which one you picked...they both were amazing. Great service, amazing, very fresh seafood and a beautiful outdoors view, Menemsha Fish Market is a great place to visit while on Martha's Vineyard.

Craig M.

Yelp
I'm proud to bring my tours to Menemsha Fish Market and recommend everything on the menu! It's the freshest lobster and fish and oysters etc. on the island! My customers say things like 'unbelievable!' "The best fish sandwich I've ever had!, and I'm a fish sandwich expert! " "the lobster roll was so good and the lobster bisque was so rich and delicious it should be illegal!!" I have no hesitations when recommending Menemsha Fish Market to my customers daily and it's proven why every time! Stanley and Lanette and crew work tirelessly to provide you with the best and they do! Thank you guys! Craig MacCormack Owner operator Greetings from Martha's Vineyard tours

Kristina N.

Yelp
Ordered 10 lobsters in advance. Super nice folks who also gave us lobstah bibs and a cup souvenir for the bride (bachelorette weekend). We also good 3 qts of lobstah bisque. Highly recommend coming here!!

Kate M.

Yelp
We LOVE Menemsha Fish Market and get food from there every time we're on the Island. Stanley, the owner, is a great guy, he cares about his employees and his customers and the food is excellent. He is usually open year round and we enjoy supporting his business.

Tim B.

Yelp
I'm upping my ranking of Menemsha Fish Market. Just seemed to be a solid place for fresh seafood. Prices are out of line with what we pay at home, but perhaps the island warrants a premium. That being said, the quality was exceptional and the service was very good. Excellent selections round out the experience. It may be a toss up between Menemsha Fish Market and Larsen's next door, but either way you're going to get tremendous quality seafood reasonably fast. Depending on what you get, you might even find a spot down by the water to enjoy it!

Carmen G.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I am very exacting in my standards, particularly when it comes to food. Menamsha fish market has hands-down the best seafood I can ever recall purchasing. My family and I bought fresh and delicious raw oysters, clams, and wonderful fish. The clam chowder goes to the head of the class on the island. We plan to be back again and again. Top notch!

Russell A.

Yelp
On our tour of Martha's Vinyard, we stopped on the west coast in this small little shop located in Meneshma, to try out their fresh lobster sandwich. He gentleman we spoke to, Stanley had some great stories to tell whole we were there, even his story of catching a 20'great white shark! He's the gentleman with the black hat in the picture. He also told us of the filming of the movie JAWS nearby! Lobster sandwich is a must do when you're here! Fresh lobster garnished in butter wrapped in a buttered toasted bread! Mmmmmm.

Joe C.

Yelp
There are two popular fish markets in the fishing village of Menemsha; Larsen's Fish Market and Menemsha Fish Market. Both are located next to each other and both offer a fairly good selection of fresh seafood. By seafood I'm talking about the raw kind where you purchase it and then cook it at home. But both places do have some carry out items that can be eaten instantaneously on-site. In addition to selling shellfish Menemsha Fish Market also sells fish sandwiches. That's why I like Menemsha slightly more than Larsen's. I could be wrong but I don't believe Larsen's sells fish sandwiches. In a matter of one week I ate twice at Menemsha Fish Market. First I ordered a swordfish sandwich and another day I ordered a sea bass fish sandwich. Nothing was fried. Both were fantastic! And I don't use the word fantastic in my reviews very often. The inside and outside is somewhat gritty but everything is 100% authentic. What I mean is the stinky smelly fishing boats dock directly next to the fish shack building. You cannot get any more ship-to-table than that. The bench and tables outside are kinda crude but if you can get past that then you're in store for some great seafood. PS; Not all their seafood is caught locally, but simply ask and they'll inform you what was caught locally.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Always fresh catch ready to take home & cook. Great selection too, reasonable prices and they e been doing it there forever! Newly refurbished and expanded store in 2022!!

Lida F.

Yelp
Absolutely the best seafood in the area. My husband and I were visiting for a wedding in October. We drove out to Menamsha from Edgartown, went inside the fishmarket and got some hot fish sandwiches and some amazing chowder, and took it to the beach right nearby and sat on the rocks and watched the sunset. What a wonderful place. The staff who served us were just plain wonderfully and simply gracious and kind; so very nice and welcoming. It's also a great place to wonder along the docks and look at all the fishing boats in the little harbor.

Natasha B.

Yelp
Ok..u must must must go here if you are in Martha's Vineyard. It's right where the bus stop is which is convenient. It was the BEST LOBSTER ROLL I have ever had. I got the hot one (because let's be real...that's the only way to get it). It was on a perfectly toasted bun with just the right amount of butter. The lobster bisque was the best I've ever had as well. The clam chowder was def good but I've had better. The owner was really friendly. Not much seating ..about 5-6 seats in the corner but a lot of people take it to go and eat on the dock/beach when the weather is good.

Tamar L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years - their fish couldn't be fresher and they couldn't be nicer. But this is a review about a sandwich. Everyone has that one sandwich that changed their life. The sandwich they dream about - they tell stories about. For me, this is the smoked tuna melt from Menemsha Fish Market. The smoked tuna melt is PERFECT. The smoked tuna salad is truly smokey and seasoned to perfection. Carmelized onions and mustard, a mild cheese and a perfect roll (hard and crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside). I always get a bag of chips and throw some into the sandwich for an added crunch. At the start of the season, my husband and I come back to the island and always run to get this sandwich. It's a holy moment. This is truly what food dreams are made of!!!

Marynda P.

Yelp
This place felt like home. I grew up buying and eating fresh seafood straight off the boat. Be sure to check out the docks and boats behind the market. I had the cold lobster roll. Delicious! My husband ate the crabby patty and the clam chowder. He loved it! Bring your patience as this is a popular place to eat. There are wooden reels in the back of the market if you choose to eat there. We chose to take ours down the street and eat at the beach on the jetties. Everyone was super friendly!

Anna T.

Yelp
Looking for something to do on a rainy night on the vineyard? Highly recommend a Menemsha soup battle! We put Menemsha Fish Market up against Larson's and there wasn't even a question. Menemsha won, hands down (the amount of cream & butter in their Bisque & Chowder made it way creamier and much more delicious, IMO). Can't wait to go back for more Bisque tomorrow!

Moe B.

Yelp
Moe does not like to be ripped off. Moe was ripped off. Saw crabcake sandwich on menu for $10. Ordered it. Then saw crabcake by itself for $5. Same crabcake but without the bread. That means $5 add on for a bulkie roll. Crabcake was 3rd rate at best. Take a look. Like Mrs Paul's. Cynical tourist trap rip off. The little village of Menemsha used to be cool. Totally sucks now, full of New York schmucks who want hot lobster rolls with melted butter instead of the real deal traditional Massachusetts/Maine style.

Cal A.

Yelp
Friendly- yes!! But Not sure why such high reviews about food at this fish market. Clam chowder is pretty good. Lobster roll is not very good. Lobster is fresh but the bun is all wrong, soggy, squished, sad little roll wrapped in Sarah wrap with extremely poor presentation. For first time visitors, Just FYI, both Menemsha fish market and Larsen's fish market are next door. Both places do not have any real place to sit. It's truly a fish market.

Brandi K.

Yelp
Fantastic! This was a random find while exploring the island. Went in, smelled wonderfully like fresh fish. The lobsters are live and literally right out of the ocean less than 20' away. We opted for the 1lb lobster dinner with a stuffed clam and lobster bisque. Let me tell you, I'm not one for soup, but this bisque won me over. I could have had buckets of it! The lobster itself was a challenge. It wasn't cracked or broken apart, and this was my first whole lobster, so I had to just wing it. I ripped the tail off and out spewed Mr. Lobster's last meal. GROSS! Fortunately it didn't splatter all over the meat or it would have been the end of my dinner. Once I got the hang of the claws, it was pretty smooth sailing. I got quite a bit of meat from that one pounder. I'm coming back to the Vineyard at the end of the summer and will definitely make at least one more visit to the Menemsha Fish Market!!
