Our family loves staying at Menemsha Inn and Beach Plum Inn. My husband and I were married on the property back in 2013 and now come back with our two kids almost every year. We are welcomed back like family by Virginia and Rachel who keep the place running! ||We love the secluded limited cell service feel of truly checking out and enjoying nature. The walks down to Mememsha Beach for sunset, the waves on Lucy Vincent Beach, the local restaurants, and nostalgic memories lure us back year after year. ||We also loved the Beach plum breakfast options plus Menemsha Inn canteen this year to enjoy our slow mornings sipping coffee with a view! ||Thank you for another amazing stay!

Fantastic place. We stayed in ocean view 11. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and beautiful. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Virginia was especially nice. Breakfast at the beach Plum was delicious. We will certainly return. I cannot fathom the basis for the bad reviews.

Most elements of our stay were excellent! Comfortable beds, ample space in our room, lovely deck with a view, friendly hospitality staff, beautiful, peaceful grounds and setting. A huge amenity for us was the beach passes. One disappointment was the continental breakfast. It did not live up to the overall value. There was little variety, none appeared to be baked locally, we had to ask for bowls, no ceramic mugs for coffee, there were black bits floating in the OJ. The quality was mediocre in a way the rest of the place was not, so we were disappointed.

We've been staying at Menemsha Inn for several years now. It's our favorite yearly peaceful getaway. The staff is always welcoming and Virginia is lovely and makes great recommendations for local things to do. We love that the Inn exudes old New England charm, is clean and comfortable. The views of the ocean from Menemsha Inn are spectacular. we love falling asleep to the buoy bell chimes and ocean breezes. Some of our favorite traditions are the sunset picnics with Larsens Sea food on Menemsha beach, Visits to Lucy Vincent beach.Hikes on Long point are beautiful. Ordering pizza from Chilmark general store and an occasional visit to back door doughnuts in Oak Bluffs are a must. we highly recommend it.

This spot is magical ! The views, the wild turkeys and the serenity made our stay very comfortable. We love this place and also enjoyed the continental breakfast at the Beach Plum Inn. We love the carriage house but will stay in a cottage next time.|Beds were comfortable and service was great. Our host was very helpful and kind !

We stayed at the lookout cabin. It was a well appointed rustic cabin with an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. We have never stayed in Menemsha before and now that is the only place we will go. It is very quiet here and if you are looking for action this is not the place to be.

Had an amazing stay at the Menemsha Inn for the Jaws 50th anniversary. My friend and I booked two suites and loved everything about it. The property is stunning—rare, peaceful, and clearly cared for with pride by the family that owns it.||Huge shoutout to the wonderful women who maintain the inn—they went above and beyond and made us feel so welcome. Can’t wait to come back!

It was a beautiful relaxing stay. My friend and I needed a reset and Menemsha Inn and cottages gave us exactly that. The property is beautiful and everyone was friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Sorry to say that this place needs some serious upgrades. We have been coming here for years and other than an air conditioning unit there have been no Improvements. Breakfast was discontinued years ago. This is an up island location and breakfast is necessary. Don't tell us we can walk over to a neighboring property for a muffin. The radiator is rusty and paint speckles are all over the floor. The door to outside was stuck closed. This is a safety hazard. Coffee is not available as advertised. Other than the close promo mitt to Menemsha Beach, the place is deteriorating year by year. Ever since then new owners it's been a real disappointment.

Yelp
Martha's Vineyard is pricey place to stay. I chose to stay up island near chilmark because I had a car (my daughter is interning at The Yard performance center in chilmark). Albeit pricey. The Inn is a special place with so much thought and nice touches. We rented a room in the tea house. It was sizable and had its own back patio with a gorgeous garden view. Also they rent a lot of houses but if you stay at the Inn they have a Canteen open 24/7 with free coffee and water all the time as well as food you can purchase they also have a nice deck with a gorgeous water view. Also open is their main inn with homemade cookies always around and lemonade. They have books, sitting areas and games available. Also the Canteen has a huge table for you to eat at if you cook on their nearby gas grill or get carry out. Way better than eating in your room. So although I just had a room. I felt very much like I had a house. They have fresh flowers in windowsills, gorgeous landscaping and paver brick pathways. It is so quiet and serene yet not far from Menemsha beach or the Aquinnah cliffs. They have paths and grounds galore to explore and a free Continental breakfast. You get beach passes to several private beaches staying here. And as far as the price it was average for the island yet delivered so much more. You will not regret staying here. It is beautiful and captures the serenity of the island all while near major attractions.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE WITHOUT A CAR! Warning: you are stranded if you don't do your research in advance and come prepared. $50 uber ride from ferry. If you look at my reviews... I'm not one to complain. We arrive and were lectured by a very annoying know-it-all that wouldn't let us get a word in edgewise. There was literally nothing to do there. We were stranded without alcohol (dry town), food ( rare restaurant) and anywhere to go except the beach. Not beach people. So we decided better to lose money rather than time. We called an Uber and booked a place in Edgartown. $738 down the drain. My husband asked if the room was we rented again would we get a refund. Of course then the obnoxious woman would have nothing to say. If you are at all interested in seeing and participating in all that Martha's Vineyard has to offer....Stay away from here.

Yelp
I stayed here last month with my wife for 3 nights on a Friday - Monday stay while on Martha's Vineyard. We arrived to the hotel during the appropriate checkin hours and quickly found our way to the desk. Upon giving my name and trying to give my credit card as well, I was told that we could settle up at the end. Then I got lectured for a minute about how I had booked online and I should have called them to confirm and talk to them. Then I could have known that this side of the island was alcohol free and I could have brought some over. They also could have made dinner reservations for me. It was definitely an old school approach and even though I wanted to tell her that I booked online to not talk to people, that the other side of the island was 20 minutes away and that Yelp gave me good restaurant recommendations, I kept my mouth shut. Soon my wife and I were headed to our room which was an ocean view. The room itself was brightly colored and had a nice king sized bed in it along with a TV, DVD player (they had a ton of DVD's in the main area) and fridge. It also had a nice balcony with a view out to the ocean which was probably a 1/2 mile to mile away. So while it was technically an ocean view, we weren't very close to the ocean which was disappointing at first. However whenever my wife and I caught some of the sunsets from our room, I have to admit that it was a great view! The bed here ended up being pretty comfortable and I slept reasonably well while there. My biggest complaint would have to be that the walls here were thin and you could hear anytime people were moving around in the rooms beside you or outside. Even crazier to me was that one night I could hear someone in the room next door snoring. That's a first for me in the many nights I have spent in hotels. The Menemsha Inn offers quite a few amenities while you stay there. One of them is a workout room which is actually in its own detached area. It had a couple of different cardio machines and then some weights for you to use. There was also a tennis court and basketball court next door which was nice. The main area was always open and provided a nice sitting area along with the previously mentioned DVD collection as well as some games. They also had a common kitchen area which was a beautiful place to bring back a meal to. During our three days there, the included breakfast was twice in the main area and once in the common kitchen area. It consisted of cereal, some fruit, a pastry and coffee. Finally they have a path which you can follow down into the town of Menemsha which my wife and I took one evening. It's actually a nice way to watch the sunset down there without having to worry about parking. Be careful of the tide though! Even though my wife and I were warned the the path could flood from the tide, we didn't realize what direction it would be coming in from (the town and not the beach area) and ended up having to walk through some water to get back. Overall though it was a nice trek down to the town and a good amenity. The bottom line is that I would probably stay here again in the future but probably in my own cottage. While I didn't appreciate the lecture while checking in nor the ability to hear other people waking around/snoring, I did think that it had a great location and a lot of good amenities.

Yelp
Horrible customer service, sub par accommodations, poor value I have never written a review before, but based on our experience, I felt I must. We were shocked at how terrible our stay was at the Menemsha Inn. We stayed for 4 nights in early October 2021. The restaurant was not open, no edible snacks available, the accommodations in the 2 bedroom suite were poor (our bed frame broke, the suite needed major updating to warrant the price they charged us, etc) They had told us when we made the reservation that they were booked and that the cottage we had booked formerly had gone up $200 during Covid times and was unavailable. That was not true. There was no one there, the whole place was like a ghost town. The premises overall are in terrible shape: everything chipping and rotting from no maintenance, gutters overflowing. There is nothing high-end or luxurious about this place. Only the location is good. The woman who was at the front desk was rude, almost insulting. After leaving, we very politely wrote them and asked if we could speak to the owner, just to share our experience. We wrote them and called 5 times and they said they would put us in touch. Nothing. So I warned them I would post a poor review and here it is! Do not spend your money on this place. It will spoil your stay on this beautiful island.

Yelp
Booked a reservation last October for an August 2020 wedding that has now unfortunately been postponed due to the pandemic. The reservation confirmation states "Should you need to cancel your reservation, a 10% re-booking fee will be charged." This reads on the reservation like it will be a 10% charge on the initial deposit when in-fact I discovered upon calling to cancel, that it's a 10% charge on the entire reservation. I get it. They have a business to run, but also, THEY HAVE A BUSINESS TO RUN, and they are going to behave this way during a global pandemic? I'll spend my Money elsewhere when it's time to rebook for this event. I'm in sales, I understand companies have policies, but at a certain point it would do good as a company to do the right thing for your patrons, otherwise, why would they ever want to do business with you again?

Yelp
If you ever need an escape from city life, stay here. I have lived and grown up in big cities my whole life and it wasn't until I came to Menemsha that I understood the beauty of simple living. I learned a new word while on this trip "bucolic". In one word it describes my entire experience. From seeing wild turkeys roaming the property, awakening to cows and the sound of over 15 different types of birds in the morning I was surrounded by nature. My highlights included: the beautiful stroll to the beach, gathering fresh farm eggs, an adventure with two escaped cows (my first cow herding experience), the amazing WiFi (where I was able to work remotely), the oyster shells on the driveways, amazing sunset BBQs, baking croissants in the morning, visiting local farms for the best fresh produce, meats and cheeses, walking to the fishing village to buy the freshest seafood right off the boats, having a fully equipped kitchen, and that amazing wood burning fireplace. The staff is amazing. Jonias taught us how to build a great fire and helped us set up our bbq. Bob (owner) personally helped us with setting up our WiFi to ensure everything ran smoothly! Sarah our angel who was our guide and wonderful host. Thank you for your generosity and for showing some hardened city folks the beauty of country life. We hope to return soon and bring our families. Thank you again!

Yelp
We spent 2 weeks at Menemsha's Cottage at Ruth's House. We absolutely loved everything: the peaceful nature, being located in this beautiful farm cottage by the sea surrounded by friendly cows, chickens (free fresh eggs every morning :-)), ducks, goose, etc. There is a little trail through the forest and dunes that leads straight to Menemsha's village and beach in less than 10mins. There you will find the famous fishmarket for fresh lobsters, oysters and fishes. Menemsha's beach has the most beautiful sunset on the whole island and we could witness it from our cottage everyday. We loved how well equipped was the cottage with a full kitchen, 2 BBQ's (one gas and one charcoal/wood), a fireplace and tons of woods, perfect for Smores at night. This is a perfect place for foodies like us. There is a least 5 amazing beaches at less than 10mins drive from the cottage. They are all different, some includes a little hike from the forest. Other have direct parking next to the beach. We loved them all and made sure to switch beach everyday for a different experience. The cottage itself was super luxury and spacious. The beds are super comfy so we had great nights sleep especially in this peaceful nature. We loved Menemsha cottages and we cannot wait to come back. We travelled the world and this is a truly special place. We want to thank Sarah Nixon the owner for her exceptional hospitality. She was wonderful and gave us great tips every of fun things to do, we followed them and we had the time of our life.

Yelp
My wife and I have been going to Martha's Vineyard for years. Even deciding on purchasing a second home there.  We reserved a room with this facility (Menemsha Inn) a few months back (March) as we planned to go back and stay again. As we completely understand the Covid-19 pandemic was unforseen, and not the fault of the Menemsha Inn, we found ourselves with a problem.  We left a message for someone to call us back to cancel our reservation and return our money. After numerous attempts, at 8:18am CST on May 4th, the front desk associate returned my call. I politely explained we need our refund as we clearly will not be able to make it based on the Covid-19 travel predictions. She proceeded to tell me she "shouldn't even be in the office answering messages, as she's collecting unemployment." Her words, not mine. She said "she is returning messages to keep good relationships with the guests." "I would suggest calling your credit card company and going through them"  I asked her, "why would I dispute this with my credit card company? I'm simply canceling and needing my refund" She then proceeded to tell me "we can put you on a list of people to get refunds. We have to get up and running to collect some revenue before we can issue any refunds." Obviously not a good sign on how this place does business. When I stated that this is not an option and not how it works in the world of business, one of her suggestions was to take my name and number and have the owners call me. Take a guess.... nobody called me. I didn't figure they would. I told her since the Covid-19 issues have their town restricted to the 18th, I'll give then until the 18th to refund our money. Well, unfortunately here we are. I had to file a complaint with the BBB, dispute the charges with my credit card company and warn others on how they run their business. Travelers beware. Still no returned calls. No returned emails. No refund. Again... travelers be warned of the Menemsha Inn & Cottages.

Yelp
Fantastic place with an amazing staff. The view is so beautiful. Access to fishing/shopping in the village by a short walk or access the rest of the island by taxi. But secluded and quiet!

Ann K.

Yelp
Just got back from our weekend wedding & though the wedding was beautiful this Inn is NOT! Very disappointed after spending almost 1000$ for 2 nights. Said it was A.C. -WASNT WORKING offered no refund or credit! Actually what she said was " ya it happens" Sheets & towels were stained we had an ocean view room with little balcony, barely could open and close sliding door! The whole place needs major updating! I honestly don't know how they get occupancy permits but it's probably not a thing on the island idk. You most definitely NEED a car there. I will not recommend to anyone to stay there, I will in fact do the opposite!

Yelp
If you are familiar with the Inn there is something critical that you should know: Car passes to LVB and Squibnocket are no longer included in the rate. LVB is up to $85 and I think Squib is $65. The receptionist explained that the Town of Chilmark asked to take the passes away. This is an incredible shame as most people know that those are the best beaches on the entire island. Walk-on passes are included. However - it is difficult to get to either beach. The Inn will offer that you take the bikes but the up-island roads are not safe for novice cyclists. It would be ideal if the Inn offered a shuttle service a few times per day for guests. Or - they can even offer a service whereby, for a nominal charge, they have a shuttle service. When we arrived I was absolutely heartbroken to learn that I would not be sitting on LVB as I had been dreaming about all year. My stay otherwise was good. I booked a year in advance for Beach Plum (Morning Glory cottage) and, when we arrived, we were told that we were booked into a cottage on the Menemsha property. That was fine and actually worked out well for us since there was a wedding at the Inn that I heard other guests complaining about. But all told - the Inn could have done a much better job of sending an email about the room change, beach change, and options for getting to other beaches. As for the restaurant - the menu has changed over the years. We ordered a selection off the appetizer menu and were happy. The cheese plate offers local cheeses which were so tasty. We also got the razor clams which were grilled and delicious in the broth. Service at the restaurant, as always, was perfect. Max is the man to ask for.

Yelp
We've stayed at this Inn five times and love it more with each visit. The accommodations are clean and comfortable and the views are amazing The entire staff goes out of their way to ensure a positive experience. If you come to the inn with unrealistic expectations or entitlement you are bringing your own baggage to this tranquil place, it's not the Inn's fault. And yes, you should look up Menemsha, it's at the end of the island away from the crowds, a car might be a good idea.

Yelp
Great location. Terrible service. Very dirty cottages and rude receptionist ( male) The rooms smell. Full of insects in the rooms. The place is very expenseice and frankly the personnel don't care about your stay

Yelp
We love Martha's Vineyard, and we have loved visiting at the Menemsha Inn, which we have been doing for almost ten years. Sad to say, after this summer, we won't be going back to the Menemsha Inn. This is a nice enough place ... lots of New England charm, rustic, and a lovely setting. Truly lovely. It is pretty dated and lots works only intermittently (TV, Wifi, drains, etc.), but we did not mind because of the beach. The main draw for us has always been access to the amazing Lucy Vincent beach. However, this year when we arrived (at 1:30, which is significant, wait for it), I guess I assumed we could ask for a beach pass as we had in all previous years. Wrong! I was told that all the OBNOXIOUS guests had ruined it and the town would no longer give passes. Now we had to go to the town hall to get a pass, but it closed at 1:00. Then the managed yelled, "Had we booked by CALLING rather than ONLINE she would have told us this!" Huh? I then had to listen to a 10 minute rant about the beach being a privilege, not a right, and why did people think blah blah blah. There were other unpleasant interactions with the manager during our stay, which I just cannot understand. If you do not like guests, why be a hotel manager? And when people come to your hotel to go to the beach, yelling at them when they ask about going to the beach seems guaranteed to make people unhappy. Anyway, in summary, for $500 a night, we will be going elsewhere from now on, where the hotel actually makes us feel welcome.

Yelp
my husband and i came here for our one year anniversary and absolutely LOVED it! the room was spacious and removed from the main office area. the view we had faced the ocean. the walk to their private beach is not bad. the only downside were the mosquitos; make sure you bring insect repellant if you're the type those buggers like! the breakfast that was included in our package was delightful! i've never seen such a vast array of breakfast foods! while we booked a room, there were cottages available for families. they looked pretty spacious! this was definitely the place to go for some peace and quiet as menemsha is removed from the touristy parts of MV. just make sure you learn the bus route to get the inn as taxis were pricey.

Yelp
The menemsha inn has a variety of cottages spread out with views of the water to the west with outstanding sunsets. The accommodations aren't fancy and the cottages might be a bit dated but the experience overall is great. We stayed at the forecastle cottage during our wedding at the beach plum and was great to have other family members staying in neighboring ones. The cottage we stayed in was a bit dated, fireplace made the place smoky and the faucet in the bathroom had a slight leak, but the beds were comfortable, kitchen is nice to have, and the views and sunsets were awesome. Love the Chilmark location too. Would definitely recommend, just expect a casual experience, not a fancy place like the four seasons.

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming to the Vineyard for over 25 years and have stayed in a number of different places. We settled on the Menemsha Inn but had not been back in many years. We were very happy to see that the place is still as gorgeous as it always was. We spent the first 5 nights in the Carriage House where we always stayed. The room was recently renovated and was very clean and comfortable. The king bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. The view of the ocean, light house, and sunset are second to none. We extended our stay two additional nights and moved to the Sandpiper cottage. The cottage was also clean and comfortable. It was definitely more rustic than the Carriage House, but that was OK. It could use a fresh coat of paint inside and out, as well as a new HD TV. But it had a full kitchen (no dishwasher), deck, screened porch, and outside shower. It had one bedroom, and an open kitchen/living room. My husband said he liked the cottage better than the Carriage House because of the extra room. There is very little cell phone reception at the Inn, but they do have WIFI. It worked great in the Carriage House, but I couldn't get it in the cottage. They have free land line phones in all the rooms. They had continental breakfast each morning from 7:30 until 10:30. However, most was gone by 9:30. If breakfast is posted until 10:30, they should keep it stocked unti then. There was a wedding at the Beach Plum Inn on Saturday from 3:00 - 9:00 or so. We could hear all the music which turned out to be very enjoyable. It was a fun night listening to the band play. It was like a free concert. We weren't bothered at all by the wedding. If we didn't hear the music, we wouldn't have known one was going on. We had dinner two nights at the Beach Plum Inn restaurant which is affiliated with Menemsha Inn. I give that 5 stars! It has to be the best restaurant up island. It has been completely renovated this year into a "farm to table" restaurant. The chef, Chris Fischer, is amazing. His family owns and runs a nearby farm and all of the produce is sourced for the restaurant each day from there. The food was so fresh and delicious. The staff was all friendly and attentive, from the maids on up to the front desk personnel, especially Virginia. I also give them 5 stars. We plan to be back again later this summer!

Suzanne L.

Yelp
this place was the pits. according to the website, we thought we were getting a quaint charming rustic inn. in reality, this place is old and run down. we had a cottage. the blinds were broken, the fan had a thick layer of dust on it and the bedroom smelled musty. There was a wall AC in the bedroom only so my kids (who slept in a pullout and a cot) were stifling hot even with the fans. As far as amenities - when we got there - there were no kayaks, only 2 bikes and a bunch of old and disgusting beach toys. We were told because we were in a cottage, we were unable to drive to Chilmark beaches (even though the website says you could). Last and especially not least, the woman at the front desk was appallingly rude and incredibly sarcastic. She alluded to the fact that the "august" guests were annoying her. Menemsha is gorgeous and this place ruined the whole experience for us.. what a let down!
