Menemsha Public Beach

This is a great place to watch the sunset. Grab a bite to eat at one of the fresh fish markets a few feet away from the beach, and eat on the beach. Parking is very limited but there is some street parking but will require you to walk a bit. Great place foe families and there is also a place to fish. There arw some large rocks near the shoreline so be careful. Unfortunately a marine layer rolled in about an hour before sunset so we weren't able to see the sunset, but we still had a great time eating lobster on the beach.

How lovely the sunset is in this beach. However, you may need to take the shuttle for parking and it’s very far.

Such a nice spot for a family beach day and sunset! Kids loved this beach and if you can find parking you will also! Clean beach, clean restrooms, great seafood options too.

A great location to watch the sunset. Get there early if you want a parking spot, it fills up fast close to sundown.

Travellers, this is a lovely little beach and harbor. The beach is lovely and rocky but makes for a good beach walk. The pier is perfect for fishing and the views of lobsterville beach are beautiful. Downtown menemsha is there and it consists of several shops and a delicious fish store/restaurant called Larsens which is worth the stop. Walk around and enjoy the shops or get a lobster roll and enjoy the view. It’s worth the trip. Check it out. We recommend. TLDR nice beach and marina

Quiet beach on the edge of town with calm water and island views. Get there a bit before sunset, grab some seafood at one of the fish markets and enjoy dinner on the beach.

Loved this beach. Beautiful area for walking around and there are some cute stores around. Not the biggest area for swimming but that's ok there are better beaches to swim at. The parking area is limited but we were able to find a spot.

Great public beach. I hear they have a spectacular sunset. I almost saw it. Too bad the fog rolled in right when the sun was setting. I guess we can't predict Mother Nature. The beach is clean and even though it is small, there is plenty of space. The water seemed great, but I stuck my bit toe in and realized it was too cold for this south Texan. We did what everyone else was doing and got fresh seafood from Larsen's and ate it on the beach. There's parking, but it is limited. The public bathrooms are nearby. They are clean. The bathroom didn't have hand soap, so take your own. I didn't notice anyone renting beach chairs or umbrellas, so go prepared. It is a dry town, so get your wine or beer before your trip to this beach

A wee bit of overcompensation, as Menemsha is getting dinged for odd things in other reviews (it's too far from Edgartown? Really?) and it's quite a soft, communal and ultra scenic beach. Amenities abound, with active police patrols in the smaller parking lot, lifeguards on duty, and loads of retail options for clothing, sundries and snacks. I'm not going to say you can crack a Lawson's on the pillowy sand, but I'm also not going to say there weren't a ton of coolers, cans and non-glass containers getting raided as the sun fell. And oh, the sunset! Completely unobstructed views of the daylight's journey into dusk that culminated in raucous applause from the beachgoers. Young and old, shy and bold, Menemsha is a welcoming stretch for worshippers of the sun, and those who don't mind polished stones to climb on, or weigh down your blanket corners. Seriously though, parking is crazy competitive. Daytrippers leave en masse between 6-7p, so if you're there for the sunset, you may bet lucky with a spot in that window.

This was one of my favorite beaches on the island. I feel like you sacrifice either bad sand for normal size waves or vice versa. I think I am spoiled being from the west with our perfect beaches for miles and miles. Pros: Great for kids, sand is great, waves are small, lifeguards on duty and its roped in. Cons: Parking is sparse, Its a small beach so there are tons of people and the water was noticeably cold.

beach looked beautiful...never got to touch our dawgs to the sand. drive around for 10 minutes trying to find parking by stalking families going back to their cars. unless the lot expands...not going back.

Depending on your plan for the day, this could be a excellent beach for you and perhaps your family to enjoy. It's right at the end of the road that goes past the shops and fish markets. There's also a gas station if you need to fill up before you head home. The parking is minimal and you'll want to get there early to get a spot. The sand is a little coarse but not bad and there's plenty of shallow water for kids to play in. Sunsets here are beautiful and there's a nice vibe to Menemsha. I usually get here at least once when on the island. I like to grab something to eat from the fish markets (both are just fine) and bring my own drinks and chips etc.

As with all of the beaches in Martha's Vineyard, you'll enjoy the picturesque scenes. Each beach has it's own charm. Menemsha beach is on the small side, not too crowded and close to the restroom! What's even better is the fact that it is close to Larsen's fish market! So if you don't have time to pack any snacks for the beach, you can just walk a couple of minutes walk away to order what you need. Just be warned, this beach is on the rocky side.

This is basically my backyard. I am so honored to be a part of this community! The business owners here are probably he kindest people I have ever had the pleasure and privilege of knowing. The most famous and beautiful summer sunset known to man, could bring you to tears with its beauty, I could post a picture but it could never do the real thing justice so I won't ....M'SHA for life!

Popular place to come watch the sunset. Bring your own towels, beach chairs, etc. Almost everyone came for an evening picnic by the water. There are several seafood shops right by the beach, but they get crowded so come early to avoid missing the sunset if you have to wait in line! Parking also gets full easily, so another reason to come early if you don't want to walk far to get your car afterwards. It's a lovely small and peaceful beach with a nice crowd. A lot of people, but never felt cramped.

The beach is small and concentrated. The sunsets are spectacular. Bring a nice spread of food and drinks (wine and champagne is nice). Or get takeout from The Bite. This is a dry town. BYOB.

Menemsha beach in the town of Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard is a wheelchair accessible beach and good for families. For those who need access to the beach via wheelchair can use one of their wheelchair beach accessible vehicles. The walkway has wooden rails from the lot to the beach which makes it easy for everyone to enter and leave the beach. The only downsides I see with this beach is no benches to sit down and wipe off the sand. I would love to see a water spot for rinsing feet and benches.

Menemsha Beach is off the beaten path and small, but very scenic. The water was very calm when we were there. It is also very shallow which was nice for the littles. As noted, the restrooms are nice and close. The only downside was that it was a bit of a drive from Edgartown (by Vineyard standards!) and the beach was super rocky. It was basically impossible to walk to the water without killing your feet. Not a total deal breaker, but be warned!
