Mensho Tokyo Ramen is tucked away in a small alley, the kind of spot you’d assume only locals or very persistent culinary adventurers manage to track down.
In this case, my daughter and her boyfriend were the perfect combination of both. They discovered it first, then took me there on a follow-up visit, determined that I had to try the infamous duck matcha ramen myself. I was intrigued (and slightly skeptical), but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
The soup was incredibly rich and flavorful. The duck and matcha combination sounds unusual, but it works in a bold and memorable way, the kind of dish that makes you pause for a second after the first spoonful.
The price is definitely on the higher side compared to other ramen places, but judging from how busy and hectic it always seems to be, plenty of people think it’s worth it.
Despite the constant buzz, the place still manages to have a nice ambience, energetic without feeling chaotic. (171125)
