In Málaga, the Past—and Picasso—Shape Its Culturally-Rich Present

Great market, locals and tourists. This is the ideal place to get food for snacks as you wander Granada. Empanadas, jamon sandwiches, a bag of cherries, and a container of oil-fried almonds with a fresh orange juice cost little. You could also get any type of olive you’d imagine. Most booths have a 1/4 kg minimum, so as a solo traveler with no access to a refrigerator, I didn’t indulge as much as I’d have liked.

Google
We were delighted to find it open on Friday as we walked past on Thursday and it looked almost permanently closed. Very well appointed public market with fresh fruits, vegetables, meats of all varieties and the same for fish and seafood. It was not so large that it took less than 45 minutes to casually stroll through the entire space. We heard from several other visitors that the vendors ready to eat food was very good but we were still full from our previous meal. As an Architect I very much liked its design and was really glad, once again, that we could gain entry.

Google
Nice building and busy vibrant market. Nice to go around for a stroll and see all the stalls with fish, fruit & veg, olives etc... or have beer and an oyster on the go and try some fish at the stall. Open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 2pm.

One of the best places to try local dishes. Went 2 yrs ago, I saved all my food photos and drool over them from time to time. Padron peppers - one of my favorites. This market gets very crowded, long lines but worth the wait.

A vibrant and colorful market full of local flavor and energy. The architecture is worth the visit, with its beautiful stained-glass window and historic iron structure. Inside, you’ll find fresh produce, seafood, meats, and tapas bars. It’s the perfect spot to experience authentic Málaga life and sample regional specialties.

A Must-Visit Market in the Heart of Málaga! The Atarazanas Market is a vibrant and authentic spot full of life, color, and incredible local flavors. From fresh seafood and seasonal produce to cured meats, cheeses, and delicious tapas, it’s a paradise for food lovers. The atmosphere is lively, the vendors are friendly, and the historic setting adds to the charm. A perfect place to experience the local culture and grab a tasty bite!

Google
I like the market. It has many options for dried fruits and nuts and lots of seafood. Unfortunately I had a bad experience, there is a corner stand with fresh dragon fruits and no prices and they charged me 4€ for half a dragon fruit with a spoon. They seemed like gypsies to me so be aware of people scamming you. The lady pretended she didn’t understand Spanish or English and rushed me into paying even though I tried to walk away and told her I don’t want it anymore.

Google
Must-Visit Market in Málaga! Mercado de Atarazanas is a lively and colorful market in the heart of Málaga. The fresh seafood, fruits, and local products are top quality, and the architecture is stunning, especially the original Moorish arch and stained glass window. Grab a bite at one of the tapas bars inside—everything is fresh and full of flavor. Great spot to experience local life! 🐟🍊🍷

Yelp
Where the locals go is where I want to be. This is the market where all the locals shop at. Came here and tried the anchovies, artichokes, olives, and more! Bring your shopping back and get ready to be a local!

Yelp
We always try to visit food markets like this whenever we travel especially the ones in European cities since they really give you a taste of the place. The food all looked wonderful and are beautifully displayed. We made a pass through here earlier in the morning and then returned later to assemble ingredients for a lunch. It does close at 3pm. Too many tempting choices. We got some olives (of course we are in Spain) that were excellent. Then some cheese that the vendor carefully sliced for us since we were lacking a knife. Some jamon and some bread. Too many choices. In addition there are establishments that served meals. A cool spot especially for foodies.

Yelp
Whenever I travel, I have to bring home food souvenirs and I knew this place would have cured meats from pigs who fed on acorns (bellota). After walking through the market, I decided on Armando Cuberos which had what I was looking for and was not as frenetic as other places so I could take my time. For my shopping bag, I bought 300-500g of the following: Jamón Iberico, Salchichon Iberico, Chorizo Iberico, and Pecorino with Truffle. The helpful woman knew to vacuum-pack all my stuff for air travel. Fortunately, my hotel room has a mini fridge to keep my charcuterie chilled.

Yelp
It looks like a market but it's amazingly awesome. They are popular in Spain now I have been told, you can shop for your groceries. From meats, seafood, to vegetables and fruits. Then there are a few places in the Mercado that you can order food to either stand up and eat a a bar or sit outside and order food. The quality is great and was able to try a variety of dishes and order alcohol as well.

Yelp
A feast for the senses! This indoor market is bursting with the colors and smells of beautiful fresh fruits, veggies, and local specialties like almonds, anchovies, and olives - so many olives! It seems one booth tries to outdo the next with a beautiful presentation of what they offer. We could spend all day here! Walking around gives you a feel for the wonderful people and culture of Málaga. There are also areas where you can order tapas and enjoy wine. The building itself is interesting with its iron work inspired by Les Halles in Paris and its stunning stained glass window. We highly recommend a stop at this market during your stay in Málaga!

Yelp
Great place to look around with to see what type of food Malaga has to offer. There are different fruits, fish, nuts, tapas, fried food, etc. It was very interesting and got to see lots of fish I haven't seen before. We went to one vendors Bar Mercado Atarazanas. We had to wait about 10 minutes for an outside table. It was well worth it. We ordered a few plates and everything was delicious. I would highly recommend it.

Yelp
Love this market for the fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts. There is something for everyone here. The prices are very good and the offerings very fresh. The nut sellers always give us samples and we purchase for about 30€, which lasts 2 adults 10 days. Have eaten lunch here and had calamari and grilled sardines. Excellent and fresh as well as inexpensive. Along with a beer and water, this was 14€. The 'restaurant' tents are always full. Would like to try some of the non seafood ones, too. Parking is nearly impossible. We park at the port and walk about a mile to shop at the market. It is very pleasant to do this on a sunny day. Would not recommend the hike on a rainy day. Highly recommended to stock up here.

Yelp
Made up of different stalls selling produce and other items, I got here at the tail end before they closed unfortunately so the seafood vendors were already closing up shop. Did get to buy some fruit and olives from the other vendors however. The seafood from what I could see looked amazing. I wish this market was close to my town I'd be cooking up seafood more often! I don't know if they had meats and cheeses but if I was staying here another day I'd definitely check them out!

Yelp
Fantastic market! Beautiful fruit & vegetables! Great place to buy Malaga almonds (freshly roasted & salted) and dried figs. Prices are reasonable and the vendors very friendly. I wish we had a market like this near my house! Fresh seafood and meats looked amazing too! Definitely a must visit while visiting Malaga!

Yelp
Awesome seafood.. I had a little of everything from there.. clams , snails , shrimp , sea urchins and so on.. it gets busy there so you might have to stand to eat... beer and vino is cheap..

Yelp
I love Spanish markets so much! They're some of my favorite attractions in Spanish communities, and I could honestly spend hours in them. Since there's so much finger food available, you could easily spend an entire afternoon snacking and drinking jovially. Definitely don't miss this market.

Yelp
Love Love Love this place!! Cheap fruit... cheap meat... cheap fish! And all with quality. I've never brought anything home rotten. In fact... I never buy my fruit and vedge from a supermarket. And in Spain... it's a MUST to never buy meat in a supermarket. It's terrible. last week I bought a lifetime supply of steaks for 10 euros. It was a poorer cut of a steak (which I actually prefer), had him cut it thick. Took it home... beat the hell out of it and had soft and delicious steaks for super. I come here twice a week. Once to buy what I need for the week... and again for anything i've forgotten. Which I always forget something. Goal: to learn how to cook fish so I can buy that here too!

Yelp
Great selection of fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish, meat ... you name it, and at good prices. Also a nice selection of tapas bars around the market's stands. Stop by and order some tapas to eat by the bars' outdoor area.

Yelp
The Mercado was not yet fully open when we walked by en route to the train station. It is a compact space with stalls that sell meat, fruit and vegetables. And we were told there're two restaurants with tables outdoors. We plan to check it out on our way back after our day trips. Unfortunately their opening hours (8am to 3pm) conflicts with our sightseeing schedule.

Yelp
If I could eat here and shop here every day, I'd be in absolute heaven. This is a market of MY DREAMS and it is one of the very reasons I WILL return to Malaga in the future. It just doesn't get any better. The seafood here is some of the freshest we had while we were in Spain. OK, I'll be honest. We ate here for lunch 3 days out of the 4 we were there, unapologetically. The prawns, the octopus, calamari, salmon- I could go on for days about how good it all was but you'll never know unless you venture in yourself. And the produce, olives, nuts? Every stand just looks and smells amazing. To boot, everything is reasonably priced. I don't know why I can't have this where I live. Oh wait, I live in a landlocked state...SIGH.

Yelp
Wonderful food, I highly recommend a visit. The display of fruit, vegetables, Serrano Hams, fish, nuts, olives galore. Great atmosphere, friendly vendors, little kiosk were you can eat sea food ever so fresh. Beautiful mouth watering display of every kind. If you like markets don't miss it.

Yelp
Mercado Central de Atarazanas is one of the iconic places in Malaga and it was hard for me to put in the category of simply shops. However call them for sure this is no ordinary market or greengrocer. We can safely say that this is the attraction of Malaga, which lets you get to know the Spain. more information on http://www.mymalaga.pl/#!mercado-en/c13w7

Yelp
Love this market! It is in the Old Town of Malaga. It opens quite early in the morning. The market has 3 sections: the meat, the seafood and fruit & vegetables. Everything is so fresh and nicely presented. As a tourist, I love coming here to check out what's available, but I think the majority of the shoppers here are actually locals getting their fresh grocery. It is a great place to get a glimpse of the local life. As I walked through the market, I had the urge to buy kilos of fresh clams, shrimps and fish and have someone cook them for me. I had thought that was the deal of those tapas stands at the edge of the market, but I was told that they only will cook whatever they have in their stand. I found one with a lot of seafood on displace and ordered razor clams, and two type of shrimps. That was one of the better breakfast I have had! Please do yourself a favor and visit this market next time you are in Malaga!

Yelp
Our group went to Malaga and we went to the Market . It was a large market with many rows of food and vegetables. We sampled many of the items and really enjoyed our visit. This is a good stop if you are in Malaga.
