The Best Places to Eat in 2026 | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set under the dramatic Las Setas de Sevilla, this market is as spectacular as it is useful—a place to feel the city’s culinary pulse from morning on." - Megan Spurrell, Arati Menon

This place was supposed to open at 8 AM. At 9 AM this is what it looked like. I went to one fridge stand that was open and was charged three euros for three pears and a small banana. I am not complaining… But I have bought a lot of pears and bananas at markets in Barcelona, Valencia, and Granada… and I have never spent so much money. Maybe these pears will be something special ha ha ha But I get the vibe that this place possibly a bit of a tourist trap… or maybe he took advantage of me because I am obviously a tourist with only a rudimentary ability to speak Spanish

Sevilla, Mercado de Encarnación, you should head on over to the popular tourist spot, Las Setas, and discover the amazing food market that lies waiting beneath. The Mercado is below one of the most-recognized monuments in Seville, the futuristic Las Setas. Once you head down, you can shop your way through one of the best food markets in the city! Browse the fresh produce or sample fresh meats and cheeses from the surrounding areas. You can even have a refreshing drink and tapa at the bar inside! This food market is a sight to see for all foodies.

I was in Sevilla in November. A fair amount of the stands were closed, I don't know if that was because of the season, so the vibe was a little slow. Otherwise, there was a good mixed group of vendors selling quality food. I wished there was more prepared food.

Mercado de la Encarnación in Seville is a vibrant local market nestled beneath the iconic Metropol Parasol (“Las Setas”). It blends traditional Andalusian food culture with modern architecture. The market offers fresh produce, meats, seafood, and tapas bars, perfect for a casual lunch or sampling local flavors. It’s less touristy than nearby hotspots, giving an authentic feel. Clean, well-organized, and lively, it’s ideal for a mid-morning stop. Don’t miss the rooftop view above the structure after your visit — great for photos and a unique perspective of the city.

We visited the market as an architectural site — it’s stunning, really beautiful. But as an experience to eat at a typical Spanish market, it wasn’t that great. There was almost no choice of ready-to-eat food. We did find one tasty place though

This market opens early and is great place to snag a snack or quick vege. You'll find a large selection of mostly produce but also some ham cuts and fish. Arrive early for the best selection of goods available. Credit cards are generally acceptable for payment so don't worry too much about carrying cash.

A very bad experience with Joaquin Heraldez. €20 for 1 kg of tomatoes instead of €2 or €2.50. Disgraceful, I could only speak Spanish. I couldn't express myself, but I'll avoid this scammer.

Really nice neighborhood market with many fresh seafood, vegetable and meat stores. It's right under the Setas so good for a stroll after the photo opp upstairs.

Yelp
We walked around and bought fresh Papaya, ham and a cone with assorted dry meats. Great way to see what the mercado vendors have to offer. Unfortunately we walked around on a Monday morning at 11am, so a lot of the vendors ae still closed . Highly recommend you take a walk and buy fresh sliced dry meats. We brought everything back to our air B and B and had a small feast

Yelp
Mercado de la Encarnacion is located in the ground level of "the mushroom". I had been to a few markets in Serville and this is the one I enjoyed walking around the most. The market here itself is clean and well organized. The meat selection definitely more interesting as they even have rabbits for sale with all the fur on. I have not yet to see this from our markets in Toronto. Worth dropping by for the experience if you are visiting Metropol Parasol.

Yelp
This underground market is located under "the mushroom" and offers a variety of basic vendors - think cheese, meats, produce and so on. It's a no frills market that was recently updated but could use more overhead lighting for pizzazz and energy. The meat/cheese vendor was especially friendly and helpful despite my fumbling Spanish. I remember walking away from his stand with the biggest smile on my face. You'll also find 4 to 5 restaurants on this floor across the hallway from the market.

Yelp
A wonderful market for fresh fruits, vegetables and my favorite Iberian Ham (Black Footed Pig).
