On the Grid : Mercado Ferreira Borges

"From the exterior to the interior of the building this market is really eye-catching with it awesome iron architecture. Upstairs you have a bar and restaurant where you can eat Italian food and tapas with a good wine. Downstairs and at night, you'll find the "Hard Club", an entertainment venue with live concerts." - Ana Bárbara & Armindo Araújo

A market with a different theme - no food or household product but just costume jewellery, ornaments and other decorative items. The display area is small but neat and clean stalls. In one corner of the market there are the toilets and entry to use the facility is €1! Total con and money making machinery for such an essential public facility.

Free to enter, right opposite the palace (palace being a must see) quite an interesting indoor market to take a look around there’s lots of little stores selling jewellery and other interesting items, (could be a great idea to search for a gift to remind you of your travels from this market) didn’t seem to be a food themed market like others in town, there’s a great selection of independent sellers there was also a small stage with live music and singing performance going on when we visited, this added to a great atmosphere in this building Be aware that the public toilets inside this building require a small amount of loose change to enter It’s definitely worth taking a look around this market on your way to visit the palace, the palace is an absolute must see !!!, It’s only possible to view the palace with a guided tour which is included in ticket price, but don’t let this put you off as the guide is great and you learn so much about Porto’s history

Built in 1885 by order of the Porto City Council to replace the old Mercado da Ribeira, this covered market is a fine example of 19th century iron and glass architecture. It operated as a market for a very short period of time, and having been used for various purposes it became an entertainment venue, where the Hard Club now is located.

Worth a visit when in porto. Good and drinks served, but pricey. Market stalls are nice touch. Also used as performative theatre.

This lovely market is full of local jewellery artists, arts & crafts, food is served, along with a stage with live music. A special mention to gent who prints t-shirts there too, some cool designs. He might do you a deal 😉

The building dates from 1885. The architecture is very nice and the red structure catches your eye. This is what attracted us and made us want to see what was inside. There's not a lot going on inside, which was disappointing. There's a bar and toilet. Apparently there's a club here but we didn't see it. It's also a cultural centre and concert hall. Looks like they occasionally host exhibitions. There's also stalls where traders sell handmade items, but none open when we visited on a Wednesday afternoon. Not worth going out of your way to visit and certainly no need to go inside. Best seen from the outside. Cute market with local vendors and a balcony where you can get a glass of wine and look at the Ribera area
