The Best Markets in Mexico City for Souvenirs, Street Snacks, and Ceramics | Condé Nast Traveler
"Unpredictable and full of treasure-hunting potential, Mercado Portales rewarded my digging with records, vintage clothes, antiques, furniture, and home goods—sometimes you'll strike gold, whether that means a new table and chairs or a vintage rotary telephone. When I couldn't take big items home, I found charming small finds like vintage marbled notebooks that make perfect souvenirs." - Scarlett Lindeman, Lauren Stroh
This is an authentic food market where you can find delicious, inexpensive produce, meats, and in my case, amazing varieties of tacos. I enjoyed the birria, as well as the Barbacoa tacos especially. The vendors are very friendly as well :)

Wow, Christmas is a very busy time of year, driving looked impossible (was bicycle riding). Lots of everything in the mercado and on the streets around. Keep your head on a swivel.

A good mercado municipal, leaning towards meats, though you can buy everything here, like every municipal market. The area surrounding the actual market building is mostly dedicated to plumbing supply and a bit of electric/gas construction/repair supplies.

If you want to save money with your grocery shopping, this is the right place to go! Also, in my opinion it’s a safe place to go. By mistake I went to shopping and leave my car running hahaha I returned and was there, intact!!
