26 Best Things to Do in Mexico City, From Frida Kahlo's Home to Storied Pastry Shops | Condé Nast Traveler

"Isamu Noguchi's mural The History of Mexico, carved directly into a brick wall, is black and red, big and punchy. It features weapons, a hammer and sickle, a swastika, a fist, and human figures, documenting common socialist themes of the period. Noguchi took eight months to complete this mural and received the same payment as the other artists who completed works here: $88. This is a master work hidden in plain sight. This market, constructed by architect Antonio Muñoz in 1933, was initially called Carmen Market but later renamed after Abelardo L. Rodríguez, the president at the time. It features a number of murals by notable painters and muralists of the time (chosen by Diego Rivera), among them Pablo O'Higgins' The Workers' Struggle; Antonio Pujol's Food and the Problems of the Worker; Miguel Tzab Trejo's History of the Mayans and the Aztecs; and Marion Greenwood's Food and its Distribution through the Viga Canal." - Scarlett Lindeman

The real deal— fantastic place to get authentic Mexican food and a experience a real market. NOT fancy or tourist centric . Fabulous murals inside the entrances.

You can get a huge, typical lunch, and drink for $3 usd. Make sure to check out the murals too. Some locals stopped us to ask why we were taking pictures of them, and fortunately, after readimg other reviews, we were able to tell them that they were murals by students of Diego Rivera!

Incredible murals by Diego Riveras students under his direction! You have to search them out, they are near most of the entrances and upstairs as well. Some of the best murals in Mexico City in my opinion.

Google
One of the oldest markets in the city, with murals from Diego Rivera and his students, like Pablo O'Higgins, some really delicious food available at every corner.

A bit of Mexico's surrealists corners. A marketplace decorated with a handful of murals finished in the mid 30's. A complete hidden jewel.

If nothing else go for the historic murals.
