The outdoor seating area is beautiful and peaceful and a nice place to come with friends or family. I got the roast beef sandwich, and it was delicious and flavorful I would recommend it. And the place is very cute inside. I can imagine fall here being nice and winter with the fireplace. 💛

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! The staff are absolutely AMAZING! Each and every single one of them, especially Oliver, Marianna, Maria, Ian, Juan, Johnny, the women in the kitchen, the event manager, the owner. They have the absolute best customer service and working atmosphere I’ve ever witnessed! ANYWHERE! Everyone has a smile on their faces, they’re kind, extremely helpful. They are very hard workers and you can tell that they enjoy their jobs and their customers. I also overheard many customers talking about how wonderful the staff is as well. The croissants are amazing, their food looks like plates of art I saw some of the items other people were ordering and I was in awe. The community that comes here is amazing. The fall foliage is such a great accent to the already amazing and warm welcoming feeling you get by coming to this wonderful cafe. I would absolutely recommend!! It was a lovely experience.

Got both the Quiche Lorraine and the Spinach Feta Quiche. Both were so fluffy and packed with flavor without being heavy or oily. Chef's kiss! Plus the service was great, they saw we had our dog on a hot day and filled up a bowl of fresh water.

Cute coffee shop. They have an indoor area that is only for people who are eating and not working. If you are planning to come here to work (as I did) you have to sit in the little area outside of the main area. It’s still very cute and sunny with a great ambiance but is much smaller and only has one table and a bar. So space is limited. The WiFi is really good though. However, cell service is not great in this part of Norwalk. I’d come again but probably not to work. Definitely want to come back and try their food. It looks really good.

Solid La Colombe coffee at a quaint, airy, and spacious location that includes multiple types of seating, an outdoor space, and a small shop. It was very quiet and peaceful on a Thursday afternoon. The baristas were friendly and provided some recommendations for other coffee places to explore in the area upon learning of our interest in good quality specialty coffee. The chocolate chip cookie, an attempt to mimic Lavain as stated in the name, was very unique but mostly bland. The dough had minimal flavor, so I felt like eating chocolate chips. The cookie wasn't sweet or savory and lacked a good salt balance (that is to say, there wasn't one either way). The affogato I had was solid, though the ice cream wasn't anything special. The espresso served over top was extracted well and complimented the vanilla ice cream perfectly, so despite not having the highest quality coffee or ice cream, the end result was tasty. Deserves an extra star for the ambiance, location, and atmosphere.

What a nice little spot. Pulled in, parked right up front. I ordered the pork sliders with chips a sandwich San Pellegrino soda for lunch. Sat inside at a little table to eat. The sliders were tasty and was perfect portion. I ordered a latte to go after my lunch which was hot and delicious.

I went here with my dad for brunch and the food was amazing. This place has a great menu and everything we got was delicious! The coffee was so good we had to go back for seconds!! I would totally recommend this place and we will be back soon.

My favorite coffee shop. The atmosphere is out of a Pinterest board, and the food is incredible. Don’t sleep on the tartines. Coffee is top notch.

Yelp
Yikes at some of these reviews! Thank God I did not have the same negative experience. Service was just fine, honestly. The Mercantile is a really Connecticut-esque cafe in Silvermine (Norwalk/New Canaan). Absolutely beautiful location, outdoor area, and indoor decor. Really rustic, home like charm. The coffees/matches are so so good! I especially loved the matcha latte with oat milk. Their desserts are perfect, honestly. Not as sweet as most desserts, which I love, melt in your mouth, and honestly worth the drive for it alone. The food was good, I got a deconstructed breakfast sandwich. I will say it lacked in flavor, would have loved either more salt or some sort of aioli. Now the prices are honestly ridiculous lol. I guess they know the clientele they want there, but it's a cafe, so should be more reasonably priced. Very good nonetheless and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious food, so fresh and unique. Coffees are great, service super! We had a toddler with us and the servers were so sweet to her as well. Fun casual atmosphere that feels like a Vermont spot...great addition to the local scene.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and pastries in a cozy atmosphere! Beware of limited parking, some people double park. You can sit indoors and enjoy a meal or outside is lovely too. Staff is friendly! I look forward to trying their cocktail hours on weekend.

Yelp
The coffee and atmosphere are so good. I have never gotten a pastry or baked good I didn't enjoy. Love this place!

Yelp
I can't rave enough about this place! Everything is spectacular and Oliver is the best host. The ambiance is really nice too - the little nook with lounge chairs is my favorite place to camp out, and the outdoor seating is a great touch. Some of my personal faves - Olive oil cake - this is fantastic - not too heavy and very moist. I love that they serve it with fresh berries too Everything bagels - these rival the best bagels in New York and are SO fresh. I usually get mine toasted with a little mayo and fresh tomatoes on top French fries - these come in a very generous servicing and are perfectly seasoned & crisped Raspberry sorbet - they get this from another spot nearby, but it's the perfect afternoon treat when served with chilled proseco! Matcha lemonade - so refreshing! Be sure to also check out their market goods - the candied walnuts and bottled iced teas are a must!

Yelp
Grapefruit juice is the best! I really love citrus organic juices, this grapefruit is definitely delicious

Yelp
Straight Up AWFUL!!! The mustachioed employee manning the counter & taking orders on my visit has no business being in the "hospitality" business. After taking my order for an everything bagel & then providing me with a plain bagel, I was verbally berated for asking to have my order corrected. I was told repeatedly "you ordered a plain bagel; I took zee order"!!! I honestly have bever received such AWFUL "service". Easy to see why this place has such a high ratio of "1" reviews. My experience was not a "one-off"accident. Although I am walking distance from Gray Barns, I won't be back and encourage any potential visitors to "BEWARE" of Mr Mustache with anger mgm't issues .... Cheers!

Yelp
I'm writing this one from the parking lot because I couldn't wait to let the world know just how bad this place is. Beautiful building don't get me wrong, but the most condescending, rude, "better than you" staff I've ever seen. The man at the counter starts looking me up and down after I ask if the ham on the bagel could be replaced with bacon, and then responds, "It comes with ham on it"... yeah thanks pal that's why I asked if you could replace it with bacon. Then my girlfriend asked for a Turkey BLT to which the man rudely responded "get it out of the fridge" as if we were lower than him for ordering a premade sandwich. Before a word was spoken the man had a hostile look on his face probably judging my casual clothing (we still looked presentable) as if my money isn't green. Also the coffee was undrinkable, please don't waste your money here!

Yelp
Stopped by with my friend during their cocktail hours for drinks and a bite. They are a coffee shop/cafe by day and a cocktail bar by night. The ambiance was great, rustic and cozy. The staff was so kind and friendly. He checked in on us and made sure we were okay and got us more bread to go along with our charcuterie board. The cocktails were delicious as well! Would definitely come back for another cozy evening with friends.

Yelp
I usually don't write negative reviews, but damn. The food and ambience here are lovely, but the staff is horrible! Incredibly rude, unapproachable and nasty. I had to send back my order because they failed to get it right the first time, and I swear it was like I'd insulted him for stepping foot in his cafe. And what's worse was watching how friendly he was to "select" customers over others. Wouldn't recommend stopping, which is a shame because the food and coffee were good.

Yelp
Love to read the 1 and 2 * reviews. These didn't disappoint. Complaining about service... been to the Merch once, and across the street several times. Highly professional. Solid service with friendly, but business-like servers. Treat them nice, they treat you nice. Gotta remember, they have lives too. So many entitled people that haven't a clue how to act when they are out and about. This is a great spot for breakfast. Go ahead, say please and thank you and see how well you are treated. Easy stuff!

Yelp
Following a Funeral mass and interment ceremony, I wanted somewhere for family and friends to meet up and celebrate our beloved's passing. Fate, fortune or divine intervention parked us up at Mercantile. Elaine loved to walk down to the Perry Avenue bridge, over the Silvermine river and watch the waterfall. Now we all gathered with a saddened heart to celebrate her life. The calm beauty of the location, the peaceful ambience of the interior and the attentive, friendly, and helpful service, took my mind away from sadder thoughts. The food was excellent. Well prepared, tasty and fresh. We worked our way through the menu, light salads, kissful quiche, the teas and coffees and the wines. I had the Cava. They could not sell me a bottle but we drank two bottles, I am sure. In all we were seven and stayed there for about 4 hours. Less than $50 per person, including a hearty tip. It was deserved. We arrived as distraught strangers and left as welcome friends. I noticed singles working and groups of friends catching up. Next time I'm passing, I'll stop in. I am sure it will be for more than a cup of tea .

Yelp
What a delightful little place with the most decadent and delicious pastries. Of course the kiddos gobbled them up like candy. Would recommend.

Yelp
Had an AWFUL experience at this coffee shop. I came with some family friends to grab hot chocolate for their little ones to hold in some OUTDOOR pictures. While we waited (10 minutes for their two hot chocolates when it wasn't even busy since we got there before opening), the kids were talking and laughing with eachother at a table so I took two- yes, TWO photos of them. The "manager" was so rude in his choice of words and delivery, telling us to call ahead and we can rent out the place if we wanted to do photos? We weren't planning on doing photos in the store, I just so happened to capture two images of the kids living in the moment before we went outside on a walk, ON PUBLIC PROPERTY to take photos of the children bundled up. I hate that we even gave them business in buying their drinks, but we will be sure to never go back.

Yelp
I visited this location yesterday (April 19th) with my sister. The place itself is beautiful and the food we got was good, but we had a horrible experience with an employee. We ordered our food and drinks, my sister ordered a BLT. They handed it to us wrapped up in plastic like a to go order, totally fine we just asked for a plate since we were eating there and not taking it to go. They gave us a tiny paper plate that was way too small for the sandwich, so we asked if we could have a regular plate. The man who was working behind the counter said that the BLT is a to go order sandwich (it doesn't say that on their menu) and they don't serve it on a plate. I was surprised they couldn't just give us a regular plate for it but we said okay. A few minutes later we were thinking it was odd that they couldn't just give us a regular plate since the sandwich was kind of falling off of the one they gave us. Given that it's a very nice place and we spent over $50 on lunch, I figured it's really not too much to just ask for a regular plate, so I asked again very nicely if they could give us a plate for her sandwhich since we're eating at a table here and not taking it to go. He repeated that the sandwhich is a to go item and they don't serve it on a plate (I heard that at least 3 or 4 times from him) and I said I understand and we didn't know that since it's a regular item on the menu, but the little paper plate was too small so she'd still be eating off of the plastic wrapper. He started arguing with me saying "that's not plastic that's cardboard" and "why can't she eat it off of there" etc etc. It really wasn't that big of a deal until he started fully arguing with me. I didn't think I was asking for much, it's just a plate it's not an extra food item or anything. I was not being rude, no rude tone at all. I usually don't make a fuss about anything with waitstaff and I always ask for things nicely because I'm sure they deal with rude people and requests often. I noticed after finishing eating that they forgot a pastry item that we ordered and paid for but after how the guy working at the counter argued with me over just a plate, I just wanted to get out of there and not ask for anything else.

Yelp
Stopped by towards the end of the day. was helped by two gentlemen working there. Extremely friendly. Warm atmosphere. very kind to my kids, and even made an extra special hot chocolate for my wife.

Yelp
Wonderful! Very nice menu. Wonderful scenery. Attentive service. Great place for special celebration.

Yelp
Bougie, expensive, and weird vibe- if you're in the mood for a tiny salad with a ginormous price tag and you think you'rebetter than everyone else- this is the place for you!

M M.

Yelp
I ordered lunch at 1:09p along with 4 friends. By 1:30p everyone else had their food except me. I inquired with the tall guy if he knew when my food was coming, and he very rudely told me food is prepared in the order received. I pointed out we all ordered at the same time, and he told me to wait, it was coming. Another 10 minutes pass and my friend inquires with the nice girl, who finds out from the kitchen they lost my order. So I did not get my sandwich until 1:46p. It would have been nice if the guy had just taken two seconds to find out when I initially requested. 35 minutes for a bagel sandwich plus very rude customer service from that guy - that guy put a mega damper on my experience there.

Yelp
Such a lovely renovation of the old country store. Delicious drinks and snacks but the snarky young dude behind the counter needs training in customer service. No one needs that snark on a Saturday morning.

Cathy C.

Yelp
An absolute gem in Silvermine. Gourmet delights in such a lovely setting. Like a mini vacation on the lawn, for lunch or breakfast. Service is always the best.
