"If you can’t pass up a good estate sale, Mercantile M will be right up your alley. Strike up a conversation with Sherman, the owner, and he’ll be happy to tell you the story of the piece you’re eyeing. The prices are cheap and the stock of antique household sundries, furniture and art turns over quickly, so make your purchasing decisions post haste." - Rusty Design Co.

Great small shop with very friendly owner! A big variety of antiques and a budget friendly range of prices! Full set of glasses and punch bowl? That’s less than $30! Fun blown mold Christmas decor - not too pricey. Been around for a long while and happy to have it still in the neighborhood!

Love this shop! The owners and staff are amazing. Have bought some true gems for my apt here over the years! Have nothing but awesome things to say!

Couldn't agree more with all the existing reviews! I stopped in for the first time today and bought a beautiful porcelain lamp, a set of crystal water goblets, and even a standing bar! All beyond affordable. The owners are so sweet too - Mark helped me tie the bar up in the back of my trunk and everything. They definitely ace the vibe check. Thanks guys! Happy you're in the neighborhood :)

There are so many treasures to be had here! The owners are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to which is not always the case. We have gotten long term investments like a bar here and fun impulse buys like a vintage Santa. I can’t recommend stopping by Mercantile M enough.

Yelp
i was in the area for Brown Elephant but this place won my heart- found the BEST unique glasswares for actually thrift-store prices. plus the owner was soo nice. when he found out i was visiting from out of town, he spend so much time telling me his favorites in the city to check out. the kindest human. this place is so special.

Yelp
Nice store, good people, great prices, wide selection of finds, quick turnover of items.

Yelp
This is our favorite place for all things vintage and home decor! The owners are super friendly and knowledgeable about their inventory, and the prices are great for the quality. Recommend this place to anyone looking for new finds for their place in Chicago!

Stephen P.

Yelp
If you know, you know. They are always getting new, interesting vintage inventory and the store is not too overwhelming. You never know what you're going to find here! The guys that run the place are lovely and the prices are fair.

Yelp
Mercantile M is a great shop in the Andersonville area. We recently purchased two victorian-style bookshelves there for a great price. The staff there is very kind and helpful. We were unable to move the oversized items, so the staff recommended three different movers that customers have utilized in the past. The person who provided the information was very caring and dedicated to ensuring we found someone who could help us move the items, which was greatly appreciated. The first person on their list we called was Alex and he was able to do a same-day delivery. He and his partner were kind, responsive and efficient and offered the delivery at a great price! I look forward to returning to Mercantile M to discover more treasures in the future to hopefully add to our home! Thank you!

Yelp
We visit this store whenever we are in the area. It seems we always find something we like at a very affordable price. The owners are friendly and helpful and we always enjoy our visit.

Yelp
If you're looking for phenomenal vintage pieces at a fantastic price, look no further than Mercantile M! The bustling commercial district of Andersonville is home to numerous vintage, antique, and thrift shops, but Mercantile M is certainly one of its jewels. I have visited this shop a couple of times before but never had the time to really look at everything. The shop is moderately sized but filled with a variety of vintage and antique treasures, knick-knacks, and furniture. The store is clean and organized and the pieces cleverly displayed. For the most part, prices are some of the best I've seen in Andersonville. A few items are well out of my price range, but definitely cool to look at. I stopped in one evening on a whim and ended up chatting with Sherman, one of the owners. He is obviously very passionate about his shop and the items he sells, and was a delight to talk to. The shop brings in new items about 3 times a week, so there's always something new to see! Long story short, I ended up leaving with an awesome mid-century lamp with a tall shade for only $25!

Yelp
Store that has constantly changing treasures that are reasonably priced. Plus, they are so polite and nice!

Yelp
Great store. It's not one of those places that is crazy packed but pretty packed for its size. Every time I've been here, there is something new and the stock seems to rotate which I suspect is because he prices things well & fair. The same items just south down the street would be crazily priced.

Yelp
I LOVE going to this place whenever I visit the Chicagoland area!

Yelp
Absolutely love this store! The owners are kind and will talk to you pretty much about anything; very friendly sort! They always have a good mix of things and are very reasonably priced. I've purchased some interesting things here, from a nude painting to a vintage earring display. All have garnered many compliments. Things move fast here so if you love it, get it before it's gone!

Yelp
The man who runs it a a total dove! He will gladly tell you about the pieces. * good prices [for Chicago] * cool stuff * sweet art! Love that this place is here! It's like Grey Gardens has a sane nephew who they give stuff to and he sells it at reasonable prices. VERY enjoyable shopping!!

Yelp
For those of you who like to drive to Wisconsin or Indiana in search of super cool vintage stuff that isn't priced sky-high, forget the road trip. Just to go Mercantile M on Clark. I have consistently purchased awesome furniture and decor at M -- after seeing comparable items at other northside shops for 2 or 3 times the price. The owners even delivered a recent drafting table purchase to my door for free -- and wouldn't even accept a few bucks for a thank-you coffee! This is the kind of independent, locally-owned business that deserves all of the praise it gets. It is the real deal.

Yelp
Really nice furniture and home décor! The owner is really nice and really honest. While I was in the store, two guys from a delivery service came in to explain their services. The owner was really kind to the guys - a lot of store owners would not have been that cool. Like this place a lot!

Yelp
Sherman and Mark are the nicest guys. My partner and I have bought so many pieces from them in the last couple of years -- abstract artwork for my private practice, vintage end tables, a 1950s drafting table, lamps, a Russian samovar, and more. These super sweet guys are constantly turning over their stock because they're always on the hunt and are not interested in gauging the shopper with exorbitant prices -- always reasonable and always fun to talk to them both. And the Donna Summer, Pet Shop Boys, or Pat Benatar playing in the shop always makes me smile! Bravo guys, we love having you in the neighborhood!

Yelp
A fabulous vintage and antiques store in Andersonville. Sherman is a unique and delightful guy; always easy to talk with and incredibly helpful. Mercantile has some of the best deals you will ever find on vintage furniture in Andersonville. My husband and I find so many great eclectic and cool pieces there.

August M.

Yelp
I thought the store was very, very dirty. Felt I had to pick threw dusty, not cleaned merchandise. More of a yard sale than a store! Prices were not properly marked, obscurely marked. A depressing unclean environment. Brown Elephant had more attractive displays and much cleaner merchandise shop there.

Yelp
A hidden gem right in plain sight on busy Clark St. This afternoon was my second time purchasing a one of a kind find at Mercantile M. The shop owner has always been pleasant and accommodating. I purchased a Martha Washington sewing table and the owner asked if I had other errands to run and offered to hold into it for me. Their prices are shockingly reasonable, especially given the area. My husband and I have been thrifters for quite some time and Andersonville residence for nearly 10 years. We've seen the price shift as our neighborhood has grown in popularity -Especially for antiques. Finally, a local antique shop that I can confidently shop at without feeling that I'm being oversold.

Mark T.

Yelp
Mercantile M is a smaller storefront, but my goodness is it packed with amazing value. I was looking for a very specific item and they had it! It was amazingly under my budget and Sherman helped me load it into my wagon. I couldn't be happier with the friendly service, selection, and incredible deal I got. Thanks!

Yelp
I came to Mercantile M for the first time last night and I think I'm in love. For a small shop, it's variety of items is impressive. I also like that the pricing is good and there's some wiggle room for negotiation. I must have spent over an hour in there because the owner is such a nice guy and helped me think through my notorious indecisiveness. I came in there for a decanter to add to my barware collection and left with the decanter and a distressed bookshelf made from a crate (I plan to turn it into a mounted hutch in the little dining corner of my living room). Together, we took measurements from 4 different cabinet/bookshelf units. He helped me think through how I would mount it on my wall and the different ways I could refinish the piece. He's even so good he suggested another store in Andersonville (Good Deal Garage) that I could go to maybe find a new shelf for the piece. I feel horribly for forgetting his name, but he offered some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. I had to force myself to leave before I bought even more. But who am I kidding? I'll be back another day to get that metal milk crate and painting.

Yelp
Authentic and fun gem! Small storefront with AMAZING value!!!!! Mark and Sherman are the nicest guys who happen to really know their stuff. Perfect example of what a local business, run by members of the community provide!

Yelp
This delightful little furniture store is fun to visit, because there are so many interesting and unique pieces in here. It is a bit above my price range, with furniture pieces being in the hundreds. I wouldn't say that I could find a good 'deal' here on my budget, but there are some interesting home decor items that would add character into a room for sure.

Yelp
A fantastic little store filled with all sorts of vintage goodies at very reasonable prices. Mark and Sherman are really friendly and fun to talk to, and they always seem to have good tunes playing, giving you a dynamite soundtrack to shop to. My wife and I found a great mid-century office desk here at a really nice price, and Mark was incredibly gracious about helping me get it up to our apartment. This will definitely be a regular stop during our weekly Clark St. wanderings!

Yelp
I'm happy to have Mercantile M in the neighborhood! The owner is incredibly nice and the items he sells are well priced. The buyers for the store have a good eye for unique design! Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
I had a very, very bad experience at Mercantile M. I found the salesperson extremely rude and condescending. I was embarrassed that I had brought my friends into the store during the holidays. I won't be spending my $$$ here anytime soon .

Yelp
Excellent antique store in Andersonville. Great prices and extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly owners.

Yelp
Sherman is a super nice guy! The selection is very affordable, always changing and really cool.

Yelp
These guys are super awesome. I bought a cool antique schoolhouse light from them and had it installed by an electrician. Almost a year later, the lightbulb went out and, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to replace it - even after multiple google searches. We finally called the store to see if they knew. They remembered selling us the fixture and walked us through how to replace the bulb. They even had us email photos to help over the phone. Super appreciative for the service, and they have cool products!

Jeff H.

Yelp
Our new favorite store in Andersonville. Got a great deal on the type of dining table my wife has always wanted. Feel like the pricing is very fair. Service is great. Mark and Sherman went above and beyond call of normal duty helping us from the purchase to the delivery. Also bought a great nightstand here in late August.

Sam J.

Yelp
Small store, but great selection and cheap prices. Maybe the best antique store in Andersonville.

Jimmy G.

Yelp
This is an excellent antique/thrift store, one of my favorites around. It is very small, but they have an ever-shifting supply of furniture, art, antiques, etc. The owner is very kind and knowledgeable, and will always give you background historical information on whatever piece you're interested in if he happens to know, which he usually does. The best thing about this place is that the guys who own it have TASTE. Everything they have is always so beautiful. They have a certain sensibility, and it is so hard to come here and not buy everything. But it is also very reasonably priced, especially for the quality and vintage of some of the items, and also compared to the Brown Elephant across the street. Great place!

Maranda W.

Yelp
Loved this place! Was just there last night and their prices are amazing! It's small, but filled with such interesting items. I'm so excited for this new addition to the neighborhood!
