For generations the best casual place for an early night beers and meet cool people in Sp. During the day they serve great home-made style food with a free buffet included when you get on of the main dishes. At night I recommend trying the Pastel.

We like the place. 3.5 And the Drinks and buffet is Good. They could pay more attention to the cleaness. My mother in law didnt like the cod, she said it should be a piece of fish not shredded fish.

Amazing food, maybe best I've had in Brazil so far. A friend from the neighbourhood recommended their lunch and I want to join and recommend the place to everyone. Super authentic place and athmosphere, very friendly staff and good value for money. Just go and see for yourself. Seriously, GO!

So many people! Good caipirinhas here, for R$15 (lemon, passion fruit, strawberry, pineapple, ...) with lots of cachaça! Really great for some cups with friends before going to the club. Nice to meet people. Do not go by car, you won't find anywhere to park, and the people are cheering in the middle of the road so it's dangerous to even pass by (especially when being drunk is their goal).

Laid back, informal, unassuming bar & grill place. Great for drinking bottled beers with friends at any time. Good simple traditional Brazilian dishes such as Rice, Beans and Grilled Beef. Floors, tables and restroom are a bit dirty.

Yelp
Meu bar favorito en Vila Madalena! It looks like a second hand bookstore on the inside with authors like Bukowski and pictures of young Marlon Brando, drawing rad (but surprisingly not pretentious) people from all over Sao Paulo. Any given night of the week the whole bar/restaurant has people spilled out onto the street with buckets of ice cold original by their side. But don't let the crowd discourage you if you've come for a bite. They can always find seating for you inside after a few minutes. Friday nights are my favorite because they have a guy walking around with huge tray of fresh pastel. They taste amazing. Especially after that second caipirinha.

Yelp
Mercearia is a cheap local dive bar with a great - and LARGE - crowd. The place is so popular with the locals that it's packed every night, and people just end up overflowing to the streets (and blocking traffic, but that's beside the point). It's a great place to chill out with some friends, or other local Brazilians in the area :)

Yelp
i came here when i was staying in a hostel nearby. there are a few tables in the bar, but most people stand outside on the pedestrian walkway and the street, which makes the social interaction more dynamic and lively. if you are traveling alone in São Paulo, this could be a good place to meet people. also, if you like hanging out in the Mission in San Francisco, you may like this place, too.

Yelp
Your typical boteco with a lot more character than everything else. From the colourful pictures and the second books to the ice cold beers on the street and the actual tasty food. The place is everything that is great about Brasil and a must for a night out in Vila.
