Chef Ruth Rogers’s Grub Street Diet

"A convenient Soho spot for a light, satisfying lunch where the writer enjoyed a simple margherita pizza and fresh burrata as a pleasant counterpoint to the week’s heavier dinners." - Chris Crowley

Great eats in the heart of Stratford. Delicious Japanese and fusion dishes were all really good. We started with the Venison tataki and butter squash ravioli - destroyed! Then finished with the crispy chicken rice bowl and bentonvox, portions are generous and flavours are there. Worth the trip while visiting the area. We'd probably pass on the kids menu next time and jus opt for an app or shareable for kids, you get better food and better value. Oh and it's a massive bar with tons of drinks.

It’s a popular spot near the Stratford theatres, so it naturally draws a lot of theatre-goers dining before or after their shows. The service is average - far from perfect, - but I don’t have any specific complaints. The menu appears versatile at first glance, but it’s actually fairly predictable: buns, burgers, and similar staples. There’s no reason to expect fine dining here. However, a few dishes do elevate the place well above Burger King and its ilk. Pan-Seared Monkfish Not many restaurants serve monkfish, so I was happy to see it on the menu - and I really enjoyed it. The vegetable side with pearl couscous was a good match. You can add a grilled chicken breast to any dish, which I did to boost the protein intake. Chicken breast is rarely the juiciest cut, but here it was even drier and more forgettable than usual. Grilled AAA Striploin Steak The steak comes with house fries and sautéed mushrooms. Unfortunately, the meat wasn’t tender enough; overall, I’d call it a mediocre steak. Ginger Brûlée The only real “wow” moment was the Ginger Brûlée. The ginger was just a subtle hint, but the dessert as a whole was simply a very well-executed crème brûlée.

We stopped by on New Year’s Eve without a reservation, so we were seated at the bar, which was expected given how busy it was. The atmosphere was still cozy and festive — a beautifully decorated space with a Christmas tree and holiday details that made it nice to spend New Year’s there. The cocktails were okay but nothing special — not very strong and overall quite average. Service was friendly and welcoming, which definitely added to the experience. We didn’t end up ordering food, as the menu felt a bit all over the place, mixing Asian, Vietnamese, and other cuisines, which made it hard to choose. Overall, a pleasant spot for the atmosphere and service, especially during the holidays, but cocktails could be more memorable.

We were in Stratford for our 40th wedding anniversary, to catch some plays, take in the sights, and sample food. This restaurant did not disappoint. We went on a busy evening pre theatre time and the restaurant was bustling. We worried we would not have enough time it was so busy but the service and kitchen were so efficient. We never felt rushed, the service was excellent and the food did not disappoint. We had the Mijikai Maki to start, it was really good. Fish was nice and cool in the centre and the outside was nice and crispy. It was a large roll so perfect to share. I had the Bento box which was equally good, well portioned and presented. My husband had the Buttermilk Fried chicken and he loved it. Really crispy, yet the chicken inside was nice and moist. There were many things on the menu that I found appealing, so next time in Stratford we will be back.

It was my first visit to Mercer Kitchen with our family of four and we could not have been more thrilled with the experience. We love dining out and love good food, and this restaurant was fantastic. Our server, Ryan, was outstanding... friendly, attentive, kind. The food was fabulous and the ambiance wonderful. It's the perfect place for a leisurely dinner before going to the theatre. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Absolutely a great hotel to stay at for enjoying time in Stratford. Easy walking distance to downtown theatres to see a play and explore the shops. Excellent service from the staff (a big shout out to Emily for being so nice) and really fantastic food. Loved the atmosphere and friendliness. Our deluxe king room was super clean, had a big bar fridge, spacious shower and a very comfortable bed with cushy pillows. Would definitely book a stay here again!

Ordered here thru Uber. It was very tasteless food and a rip off. Siu Mai cost $14 for 4 tiny pieces (as an example). Plus you have to pay for $1 for each takeout container AND $16 extra on Uber for non-government taxes of course, AND also a tip for the driver on top of the service fee for using Uber! Stratford is severely lacking on quality places for takeaway food. This kitchen advertised korean food but the chicken wings were equivalent to a box of Janes wings from Food Basics, and that only cost $6.98 on sale (not $20). I asked for Korean bbq on my wings but it definitely was the typical Janes flavour from the box. They are definitely buying cheap stuff and charging you as though it's luxurious. I could not help but laugh at what I received. $90 in total for 4 small containers of i don't know what to be honest. The Karaage is supposed to be chicken bits but smelled and tasted like fish bits!! Sometimes i like to treat myself and eat out. I will NEVER order here again. Save your money folks! We all work hard and pay 50% tax in this country, this is NOT what we should be getting in return. Restaurants cry all the time about people not coming out to support them, yet when we do this is the horrible experience we have. If ya'll go out of business, don't blame customers, look at what you are serving customers!! Not sure what other people are raving about because i need to find a way to get this food out of my stomach now. Awful.

We spent the weekend in Stratford and from many recommendations decided to stop by the Mercer for an early dinner. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and our service top notch. The food and drinks were amazing full and flavor and you could tell they take pride in the food they put out. We left with full tummies and a great experience. Stratford your lucky to have such a restaurant you can visit daily. We look forward to one day coming back again!! 5* for sure!!

Yelp
This place has changed!! Don't order a side salad - you'll get a bowl of lettuce! Too bad - the curried tofu steam bun was good. I think the food is good overall but portions have shrunk and serving lettuce as a salad is pretty cheap.

Yelp
Had the fried chicken and without reservation I would say it is the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Chicken was moist and it was seasoned well and crunchy. I will definitely eat here again.
