Spent one night at this hotel. Great location on the beachfront. |Reception area and bar were excellent. Getting from the car park to reception was a maze, guess because the hotel is ancient. Well signposted though. |Lift wasn’t operational but luckily there was another service or disabled lift, which was useful for luggage. Getting to our rooms still involved a flight of stairs and within the room were even more stairs, 2-3 in fact. Room was a bit tired, needed a spruce. Bathroom was adequate. Lighting was good. Bed comfort was very good. No noise. |Breakfast, after staying at similar standard Asian hotels, was a bit ordinary but most Western hotels offer the same eggs and bacon. Staff were excellent.|Recommended.

I had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel by the beachfront. The location was perfect, with beautiful views and such a relaxing atmosphere. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff were so welcoming, friendly, and helpful they really set the tone for my visit. Nothing was too much trouble, and their warm approach made me feel instantly at ease. The hotel itself was lovely, clean, and comfortable, and the whole experience felt special. The food they are serving at the moment was excellent fresh, tasty, and exactly what you want during a stay by the sea. The bar staff during the day were fantastic as well: professional, attentive, and they made me feel truly appreciated as a guest. It was exactly the kind of break I was hoping for, and I left with only the best memories. I would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Brighton.

We had a wonderful few days at this little gem of a hotel. The magical bandstand across the road was wonderful to watch from our sea view room, (310) along with a view of the west pier. The room was perfect, wonderful big comfortable bed, ample room and a great shower room. The service throughout the hotel was among the best I have experienced. We had some special requests which staff went over and above with. Particular thanks to Marianna. Breakfast was good, bar staff helpful and friendly too. Definately recommend and we will definately be visiting again soon!

The location is undeniably fantastic—right on the seafront, with easy access to everything Brighton has to offer. We stayed for two nights in a room with a balcony, which turned out to be more of a terrace and was easily the highlight of the stay. It added a sense of space that the room itself lacked; for the price, the room felt quite compact. The hotel overall feels like it’s due for a renovation. While the room was well prepared, small details—like a torn cushion—hinted at some wear and tear that could use attention. A special mention to Vito, who prepared our room with great care, their attention to detail really stood out, and the space felt spotless and welcoming thanks to them. I had a minor incident during my stay, and while it was resolved with a refund, I was disappointed by the lack of a sincere apology. Instead, I received a string of excuses, when all I was really hoping for was a moment of genuine accountability. That said, aside from that episode, the staff were warm and helpful. As a vegetarian, the English breakfast was serviceable but not memorable. The morning staff in the restaurant are extremely helpful and witty; just the sort of people one needs at the start of the day. The on-site restaurant looked promising, but with Brighton’s abundance of dining options, we chose to eat out. Overall, Mercure Beachfront has potential, especially with its prime location and friendly staff, but it’s let down by dated interiors and a missed opportunity for more thoughtful service.

I enjoyed my 4-night stay. Very good value for money compared to other hotels on the seafront in peak season. Restaurant excellent for dinner, but slow service. Generous buffet breakfast with lots of choices, cooked or fresh. My room was perfectly comfortable with everything I needed, although the door made a bang when closing, and I could overhear my neighbours. Some of the public corridors and carpets are very tatty and need upgrades. No lift except to the 1st floor. No smoking outside on the terrace didn't make sense. The no cash, card-only policy was inconvenient for me. However, on the whole, it was satisfactory and I would go back. Excellent location. Thanks to all the staff for making my stay a good one.

A wonderful experience from check in to check out. Reception staff welcoming and friendly. Our room was not ready as we were early so we left our cases and went out for the afternoon. On arriving back we were given our room key and what a lovely gesture we had been upgraded in our room as it was my sisters birthday. She was also given a beautifully worded card and a drinks voucher. She really appreciated this kind gesture. The room was indeed stunning with a view out over the sea. It was bright and airy. The bathroom was modern. Highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back its location was central to all the sights.

The room was clean and comfortable, staff were friendly especially Marianna, who was so funny and made us feel very welcome and the location was very convenient with easy access to nearby attractions and transport. They also offer bag storage, which was really convenient as we could leave our bags and explore the city. Highly recommend.

This is a review of two halves. All the staff we met were wonderful; helpful and friendly. The food, particularly the evening meal we had was lovely. The reception and bar is beautifully decorated, extremely funky and colourful. We paid extra for a sea-view room, so it was a Privilege Room. The size of the room was amazing. The bathroom, clean and modern. The bed was warm and comfy and there was no extraneous noise from other rooms. The actual decoration of the room was lovely too. However, there were things that niggled. For example, the carpet wasn’t completely clean – there was a bad stain on one side of the bed. The very pretty silk cushion on top of the bed, looked fine, but was completely frayed on one side. The window didn’t shut completely, so the room was a little chilly at times. From the point of view of space – the wardrobe was excellent – also containing an ironing board, bath mat, hair dryer and extra pillows. There wasn’t a proper drawer anywhere to put t-shirts and underwear. The dressing table/desk was taken up with a large lamp, a tray with a kettle and mugs, and separately, a mini Nespresso machine. Although there was a coffee table beside the sofa, it wasn’t somewhere where I wanted to leave my make-up or other bits. The bathroom, as mentioned was lovely – but and a big but, there wasn’t a shelf to put things on – apart from the small one behind the toilet, which already had stuff on it. Obviously this held the danger of knocking things in the loo! We had to put our soap bags on the floor and keep extra things in them, as we were unable to display them anywhere. On the morning after our stay, we left the room, only to come back later and find that the bed hadn’t been made, and our towels, which were still wet hadn’t been replaced. I mentioned this to reception and we left the room for a while and when we returned they’d placed new towels in the bathroom, but still not made the bed (that didn’t bother me as much as having wet towels)! However, the person who came in removed the bath mat I’d put in the shower, and not replace it. On our last night in the bar, they ran out of certain drinks - which was also a shame. I would have given the hotel 5 stars, but there were too many little niggly things that ruined what was otherwise a lovely stay. The staff are lovely - the building a little run down in places.
