I travelled to Bristol for a quick break by myself from Ireland. I cannot praise Robyn,.(hope I spelled that right!l) enough! He is the manager, I got a bit lost and bamboozled while trying to find the hotel so i called the hotel for directions, the other gentleman who answered the phone was also extremely kind and helpful..Robyn told me I was 3 minutes away and he said I'll come get you, its easier, he did try directing me but being new to the area, i was still a bit lost! ||I was sooooo grateful to him. He went above and beyond to help me! He also upgraded my room which I didnt expect. The hotel is lovely and the staff and food are wonderful. |Breakfast was a buffet self service. The building itself is gorgeous. My room was spotlessly clean, it had a big comfortable bed and big tv, lovely clean bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities aswell as a mini fridge. The decor was also beautiful. Maybe a brighter ceiling light would be the only thing! But that's not a major deal breaker. ||Thanks again for looking after me so well. I'm forever grateful 😊|..

Booked a one night stay for a gig at the Beacon Booked a standard double but got given compact double so the double bed was against the wall one side. I didn’t realise this was a compact double until I looked at the options to book again for another visit so will make sure I get the correct room next time. Our room was a little tired but ok for one night. We were by the lift so a bit noisy with people coming and going. The location is perfect for the city centre nightlife clubs pubs and concert venues. Parking is available and charged at £19 for 24 hrs. The hotel is in the Bristol clean air zone so another £9 per day if your car doesn’t comply. We returned at 1040pm looking at having a drink in the bar but it was closed “ last orders called at 1030! Really!! I would stay again but get a bigger room next time and have a late drink before I returned.

The not so Grand. Once a Thistle, up until recently a Mercure, this central hotel is now run by "by Sunday". Never heard of them? Nope me neither. Try to go to their website and it'll take you to another brand they own 'Oyo' which makes you think you're on a dodgy price comparison site. But all that could be put aside if the actual hotel was decent. Spoiler - it's not. Tired to say the least, Mercure branding has been ripped off and just "hotels" left in place, with random furniture put in place for pieces clearly removed with the change of brand. Paint peeling everywhere and just a feeling of amateurish about the whole place. Again, a lot of this can be forgiven if the rooms get the basics right, but no again. Dated, uncomfortable beds, feeling more like a seaside bed and breakfast than city centre business hotel. The room I was in was at end (technically beginning) of the corridor. There was no gap between corridor, the door and bed. So when drunk people came in at 2/3am, I heard everything. The shower would have had more luck at watering an ant than a human. And equally my room was next to stairs and lift, so every time the doors to stairs were used the door slammed and I could feel it through the bed, plus I could hear the lift motor and lift announcements whilst in bed. Breakfast was another disappointment and not worth the calories. They still do the breakfast that Mercure used to, but have replaced all the ingredients with the cheapest possible things. Such as sausages that are mostly mush with two little bits of bone in them, more water than sauce baked beans and other flavourless assortments. Plus switching off the old pancake and coffee machines and just leaving urns of stale, luke warm coffee out. To see how far behind the curve this hotel is you only need to pop next door to the Clayton. I won't be returning to "The Grand".

Great location. Poor service. Dodgy electrics. Peep hole in door seemed a bit odd. Rusty shower rail and dirty shower curtain. This is at best a 3 star hotel. The hash browns were banging and breakfast has a good selection. When we turned up someone's car had their window smashed in the carpark ... admittedly not the hotels fault but still place felt a bit grotty not like we was expecting especially for £220 per night!! The lifts don't work properly and take ages in the morning. Wouldn't want to have a pram or be disabled here tbh!

Whilst this hotel appears to be lovely from the outside & photosv the interior of the rooms is something not to be desired. We checked in using the touch screen, were assigned a room with a large pillar in the centre next to the bed, when we asked to change this was no issue. However had to go through the maze of corridors & lifts to get to our new room. This then had a blocked sink and the power cut whilst trying to make a cuppa. No spare pillows in the room so if you don't like soft pillows either ask (which we did not do) or bring your own. If you like a basic hotel with shiny interior then this is for you, but I'd expect some issues if you come here. Location is great though, close to car park and amenities.

This hotel is in no way grand. On arrival at 21.00 the lobby was full of rowdy drunk people. In the room the doors and walls are all painted in a gloomy olive green and even the curtains are the same colour, all much darker than the photos. The inadequate lighting was industrial in design which together with the wall colour and the grating instead of wardrobe doors it made the room feel as if we were in a communist block country. Only one bath and one small towel were left for two guests and placed on a shelf I could only just reach. (5’5”” tall). There was no makeup/ shaving mirror. My husband is disabled so I asked about the facilities ahead of time through Booking.com which is the only way you can contact the hotel. I received an email saying there were safety rails in the bathroom. There were not. There was no information booklet and no phone or WhatsApp number given so we had to go down to reception each time to ask any questions such as time of breakfast and Wi-Fi password, none of which had been offered when we booked in. |The car park is a multi-storey opposite and the bays and ramps to the floors were built when cars were much smaller so there are paint scrapes on every wall. When we entered the barrier was up and the reception did not explain or offer a ticket which was needed to exit. This meant we had to go back up to the sixth floor to re park to go back to reception to be given the ticket. Half the lights were out and the lift left you wondering if it would break down any minute. The price of parking for the night is £19 which is extortionate.

Fantastic. Staff very polite, informative and helpful. Hotel and was Room very clean and tidy. We paid for breakfast which was a help yourself, plenty available and what wasn't out, was cooked fresh to order. Ideal location being in the centre, Downside no available parking for our van so had to park a couple of streets away, but parking available for smaller vehicles. Would recommend and we'd definitely return..

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend. The staff is very helpful and polite, the hotel is at walking distance from all the highlights and sightseeing spots of Bristol. I only give it 4 stars because the beds were a bit small but the rooms were clean and cosy

Yelp
Crazy noisy, our room reeked of pot (coming from our neighbours room), the AC made a screeching sound that kept me up all night. The window wouldn't open so it was either suffocate in a stuffy room or deal with the noisy AC. One of the elevators wasn't working, the one that did, periodically smelled like sewage and they were both missing buttons. On a positive note, the hotel was in a good location, did have parking (which was very tight) and was next to the Registry Office. We won't be staying here again when we return to Bristol.

Yelp
What a great time staying at The Grand Hotel built in 1869 but was named "The White Lion" when it first opened. So in 1874 renamed "The Grand Hotel" and now is called Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel. Outside of Hotel continues to exhibit the grand style of Italianate Renaissance style that was constructed of limestone ashlar. Hotel is located a short distance from St John's Arch, one of the original gateways to Bristol. I stayed for 3 nights, though pool and fitness room were closed due to Covid restrictions and lack of staffing, in very comfortable room on 1st floor level... So no grand view. My room was tidied up daily which was lovely!! Also they provide shampoo and shower gel along with tea and coffee in room- Electric tea pot. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Note: no wash cloths so bring your own. Restaurant in Hotel is called Keeper that provides full bar and balance meals on menu. English Breakfast bar for 10# when you have hotel room or 15# other wise mate. Quite of variety for buffet but I give it 3 stars as wait time for breakfast items to refill so breakfast took a bit more time. Staff service is pleasant and kind even with mask restrictions. Checkout was easy. Cheers!

Yelp
They lied on their website, they said they had a pool and a gym but it has been closed since the pandemic, they did not care that they lied about this when I asked them, just shrugged their shoulders. Room was small and it overlooked a dirty wall, house cleaning was not good. Will not go back

Yelp
The Grand Hotel is not surprisingly a very posh and luxurious hotel in the centre of Bristol. The location makes it probably one of the most popular place for those with a bit higher budget. Inside, the hotel is really lovely. It's very glamours and old English. Don't expect all the mod-cons but the rooms have character and class. The staff were a little stuffy, but otherwise pleasant enough. I personally wouldn't go back because in my opinion it wasn't worth the money, however there are so many modern hotels dotted around that it is nice to find a more traditional one.

Yelp
Expensive, extensive and majestic (that's why its called The Grand, I guess). Like stepping into a Agatha Christie novel or something, there is retro glamour in the red drapes, carpet and impressive staircase. Close enough to Temple Meads to be convenient for people travelling on business. My family recently enjoyed a stay - one of the rooms they booked was luxurious and big, the other smaller and shabbier in terms of carpet and trickle of a shower. Both were the same price. There are two bars and a function room bookable for weddings and conferences.

Yelp
Brilliant hotel, comfy bed, huge and very nice room, very nice and helpful staff. Breakfast was lovely, cold choose from eggs, full English and other English selections, continental breakfast, variety of cereals, yogurts, fruit and fruit salad. Great!

Yelp
Great hotel in the old part of town. Breakfast costs an extra $15 pounds each morning. Included in the cost of your room is access to the health club next door where you can go for a swim, relax in the jacuzzi or sit in the steam room. Ask for a robe from the hotel before going as the minute walk back to the hotel can get a bit chilly.

Yelp
Hotel of choice for Japanese tour groups and visiting rugby teams, The Thistle is an expensive city centre hotel, with all the bells and whistles you would expect with that. At check-in your bags will be promptly whisked up to your rooms and everything should be dealt with quick and painlessly. The rooms are well equipped and well presented. Generally, they've managed to capture that sense of theatre that somewhere like this should have They do functions too so I'll say a bit about these just in case your thinking of booking the place. Usually there's a three course meal brought out by a small army of waiters. The food looks expensive and is pretty good. Perhaps not up to the standards of some of the better restaurants in Bristol. They aren't held in the nicest of places; mostly big windowless rooms with lots slightly sickly red carpet. It all fairly well finished, and you whatever your doing will feel like a bit more of an occasion coming here. Going to the Thistle is a bit of an event and generally everything is just as it should be.

Yelp
I live in Bristol, have done for a few years now, so you would think I have no reason to stay in any hotels in Bristol and you'd be right. Of course, why would I pay for a hotel in Bristol when I live a stone's throw away? Especially somewhere as posh and potentially pricey as the Thistle. But when someone else is paying it's a different story altogether. I went to take a flight to Newcastle from Bristol Airport and it was cancelled so Easyjet got us a room in the Thistle before putting us on the early morning flight. By the time we arrived at the hotel we'd been sat on the airport floor for about four hours so we headed straight to the bar. It's a dimly lit underground affair with lots of interesting faces and the whisky was divine. The room was perfectly nice, with the obligatory free toiletries and the breakfast was decent enough. I only wish we could've stayed longer!

Yelp
We chose to stay at the Grand by Thistle because it was listed as a 4 star rating and had impressive looking photos posted online. Unfortunately, the actual hotel was much more disappointing - it was decently clean, but it felt more on par with a dinky Holiday Inn than a 4-star hotel. Cracks and unpainted plaster sprinkled the room walls. There were no outlets anywhere near the bed to power your mobile device or laptop. We arrived to a room with a broken air conditioner and one towel for two people. We tried calling the front desk several times to let them know that the AC was broken. Half the time, no one picked up, and the other half of the time, they responded but never ended up sending someone to fix it. 12 hours later, our room was still stifling warm (over 80 degrees) and they finally agreed to move us to another room. On the day we had to leave, we asked the front desk attendant to arrange for a taxi to arrive in an hour because we had to catch a train. The time came and went with no taxi to be seen. We were getting concerned that we might miss our train, so we asked the front desk attendant to call and check again, at which point he reluctantly called, but not before mumbling under his breath something to the effect of "Americans are more trouble than they're worth." This certainly did not feel like the Thistle's "Signature" luxury service that was touted on its website. During our stay, we did meet some staff that were kind and professional, but it's a shame that most of our experiences with the staff were unhelpful and unpleasant enough to mar our stay in Bristol. Next time we visit, we plan to stay at the Marriott instead.

Yelp
This is a fantastic old boutique hotel in the heart of an old area. Great walking around area. Very close to one of the best Indian restaurants in the UK, "4500 Miles from Delhi." The breakfast was excellent, and I can't say enough about the ambience. Within a two block walk, you have a small rotating street market (fresh cheeses, meats, vegetables), indoor market stalls, and a modern mall complete with post office. Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms larger than I'd expect. Only down side is that some of the rooms are a bit noisy, so ask for the quiet side. My room faced a gorgeous old church. Oh - and the windows open, which for me was icing on the cake. Recommend highly.
