It was an impressive victorian hotel centrally located with a modern twist, we had a beautiful large room, but round the edges, some maintenance was forgotten. However, still comfortable clean room and comfortable bed. But the most outstanding part of our stay were the staff. We were met by Robin who was the new head of the department and genuinely cared about giving excellent customer service and nothing was too much trouble. A truly outstanding young man. Whilst looking for recommendations for food one of the chefs Lucius gave us the complete rundown of places to go and the styles of food around. Both were very enthusiastic and passionate about their job and caring for our needs . The next day when we went down for breakfast the staff were very professional and caring, and nothing was too much trouble. I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years and it’s the staff what makes the difference. People that genuinely care about making your visit special. Highly recommend staying.

Good location, it was a well kept hotel that gave a good feel. The atmosphere in the hotel was good with some live music, and of course comfortable rooms and a clean bathroom but the bed base was too small for the bed and the room was a bit small with a stained sofa seat in the room. Otherwise, perfect.

We stayed one night at the Mercure in Bristol, and had taken two additional rooms for older relatives. On arrival, one of our party, who has a disabled parking badge, was unable to park in one of the four disabled spaces on the ground floor of the car park, and had to park on the fifth floor only to discover the car park lift was broken. The hotel had not communicated this or made alternative arrangements. Of the four disabled places on the ground floor only one was being used by a car with a blue badge. One was being used by a transit van and the other two had a large SUV taking two spaces which was there the next day. Did this belong to a member of hotel management? Check in was slow and underwhelming. One of the domestic staff was friendly and our room was clean but otherwise this presents as a hotel in need of engaged, experienced management and investment. The decor is tired. It was a very hot day and the air conditioning worked which was a nice surprise. This is a three star hotel at best. The location is excellent however.

Brilliant stay. Fabulous location. From check in to check out could not fault it. Room was lovely. Super clean and comfortable. Air con worked perfectly. A lovely touch was a complimentary drink at the bar which we took up. Environment was lovely as were the staff. Breakfast was great with lots of variety. I find it hard to believe some of the negative reviews on here. My question is....What is wrong with some people???? Thanks team for a great stay. Will definitely be back again.

Starting off with the amazing location. You are close to EVERYTHING! The service was great too! Some staff not being particularly cheery and smiling but gave us extra blankets when requested. Rooms weren't particularly good at all. The room we got did not have any isolation around the window (during March) and it got down to 5 degrees outside (and of course in our room). It was REALLY cold. The AC, have never been cleaned so if you open it up and check the filter, it's clogged up with a lot of dust. We endured the night, and with a bit of a struggle, we got another room. It was also quite chilly during nights, but not as cold as the one we had earlier. The bathroom needs more towels to be put on the floor in case there is a lot of water. The shower itself, in the first AND the second room did not have a rubber seal between the hand shower and the shower hose, making it leak a lot of water before it could even spray out the nozzle and onto your body. The view from the room was not good as it was the back of an alley. Though that didn't bother me too much as we were out adventuring more than being in the hotel room.

very bad - I was charged twice for my room, on check in and again just before check out. I did not realize I had been charged again and was supposed to be treating family for lunch but my card was declined because £414.68 had been deducted without my realizing it. This was very embarrassing and upsetting. I have now suffered financial distress as the issue has not been resolved, Customer Care I have had three different people who each ask me to outline the problem, and the hotel itself mostly does not answer the phone or respond to emails. Juan Barale does not seem to understand the problem and said on July 13 "We believe your bank is going to remove the £380.90 soon but we don't know when that is going to be". What he h*** does that mean? Why can't the hotel just admit it charged me twice and refund the overpayment. So as a pensioner, I am short of all that money for the rest of the month!! I expect substantial compensation for all the financial distress, embarrassment and time and effort spent on multiple emails and phone calls (mostly just kept on hold). And I am not talking about a paltry 5000 points. I think (if I ever decide to stay in an Accor hotel again) two nights' free stay would be the minimum!! Helen N. (Silver Loyalty member)

It started bad, I parked the car up on the 4th floor and had briefcase, suitcase and another bag to carry and found the life not working so it was a climb up and down the stairs with all that luggage. |Check in was fine and was given a room on 2nd floor, thankfully this lift worked but it was difficult getting to the room with all the luggage as I had to go down multiple corridors and open about ten different doors.|No air con on a very warm day and evening, a fan in the room that didn’t seem to circulate anything and a TV that didn’t turn on. I tried to get my room changed but was told nothing was available as the hotel was fully booked.|I had to suffer and couldn’t wait till the morning. I paid £12.50 for breakfast…..|What can I say? A buffet with luke warm to cold food, cheap bread for toast I left half of it.||The only nice thing was the location to the city centre for convenience and the shower was nice, other than that I would seek alternatives

2 night stay at the Mecure Grand Hotel, can I just say, the service from housekeepers and bar staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough for you. However, rooms on the other hand... walls are paper thin, to the point where you can hear everything! And I mean everything, both nights I have been kept awake. I must admit, I thought the rooms were going to be a bit bigger than what we expected, there is definitely room for improvement, as rooms are looking tired, so I would say that I am disappointed for the price that you pay. The kettle, coffee and tea is a nice touch in the room, however when we went to ask for more milk pots , they had actually run out, never known a Hotel to run out of milk pots?? Air con in the room was nice, as the hotel is absolutely roasting, but once again was let down by this, as it was very very noisy.. so couldn't have it on for long. The beds aren't the most comfortable, could do with maybe some mattress toppers?? Other than that, the location for where we needed to be was great, and all in all, we made the best of our stay, and once again, the staff really were brilliant, especially in the Keepers bar.

Yelp
Crazy noisy, our room reeked of pot (coming from our neighbours room), the AC made a screeching sound that kept me up all night. The window wouldn't open so it was either suffocate in a stuffy room or deal with the noisy AC. One of the elevators wasn't working, the one that did, periodically smelled like sewage and they were both missing buttons. On a positive note, the hotel was in a good location, did have parking (which was very tight) and was next to the Registry Office. We won't be staying here again when we return to Bristol.

Yelp
What a great time staying at The Grand Hotel built in 1869 but was named "The White Lion" when it first opened. So in 1874 renamed "The Grand Hotel" and now is called Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel. Outside of Hotel continues to exhibit the grand style of Italianate Renaissance style that was constructed of limestone ashlar. Hotel is located a short distance from St John's Arch, one of the original gateways to Bristol. I stayed for 3 nights, though pool and fitness room were closed due to Covid restrictions and lack of staffing, in very comfortable room on 1st floor level... So no grand view. My room was tidied up daily which was lovely!! Also they provide shampoo and shower gel along with tea and coffee in room- Electric tea pot. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Note: no wash cloths so bring your own. Restaurant in Hotel is called Keeper that provides full bar and balance meals on menu. English Breakfast bar for 10# when you have hotel room or 15# other wise mate. Quite of variety for buffet but I give it 3 stars as wait time for breakfast items to refill so breakfast took a bit more time. Staff service is pleasant and kind even with mask restrictions. Checkout was easy. Cheers!

Yelp
They lied on their website, they said they had a pool and a gym but it has been closed since the pandemic, they did not care that they lied about this when I asked them, just shrugged their shoulders. Room was small and it overlooked a dirty wall, house cleaning was not good. Will not go back

Yelp
The Grand Hotel is not surprisingly a very posh and luxurious hotel in the centre of Bristol. The location makes it probably one of the most popular place for those with a bit higher budget. Inside, the hotel is really lovely. It's very glamours and old English. Don't expect all the mod-cons but the rooms have character and class. The staff were a little stuffy, but otherwise pleasant enough. I personally wouldn't go back because in my opinion it wasn't worth the money, however there are so many modern hotels dotted around that it is nice to find a more traditional one.

Yelp
Expensive, extensive and majestic (that's why its called The Grand, I guess). Like stepping into a Agatha Christie novel or something, there is retro glamour in the red drapes, carpet and impressive staircase. Close enough to Temple Meads to be convenient for people travelling on business. My family recently enjoyed a stay - one of the rooms they booked was luxurious and big, the other smaller and shabbier in terms of carpet and trickle of a shower. Both were the same price. There are two bars and a function room bookable for weddings and conferences.

Yelp
Brilliant hotel, comfy bed, huge and very nice room, very nice and helpful staff. Breakfast was lovely, cold choose from eggs, full English and other English selections, continental breakfast, variety of cereals, yogurts, fruit and fruit salad. Great!

Yelp
Great hotel in the old part of town. Breakfast costs an extra $15 pounds each morning. Included in the cost of your room is access to the health club next door where you can go for a swim, relax in the jacuzzi or sit in the steam room. Ask for a robe from the hotel before going as the minute walk back to the hotel can get a bit chilly.

Yelp
Hotel of choice for Japanese tour groups and visiting rugby teams, The Thistle is an expensive city centre hotel, with all the bells and whistles you would expect with that. At check-in your bags will be promptly whisked up to your rooms and everything should be dealt with quick and painlessly. The rooms are well equipped and well presented. Generally, they've managed to capture that sense of theatre that somewhere like this should have They do functions too so I'll say a bit about these just in case your thinking of booking the place. Usually there's a three course meal brought out by a small army of waiters. The food looks expensive and is pretty good. Perhaps not up to the standards of some of the better restaurants in Bristol. They aren't held in the nicest of places; mostly big windowless rooms with lots slightly sickly red carpet. It all fairly well finished, and you whatever your doing will feel like a bit more of an occasion coming here. Going to the Thistle is a bit of an event and generally everything is just as it should be.

Yelp
I live in Bristol, have done for a few years now, so you would think I have no reason to stay in any hotels in Bristol and you'd be right. Of course, why would I pay for a hotel in Bristol when I live a stone's throw away? Especially somewhere as posh and potentially pricey as the Thistle. But when someone else is paying it's a different story altogether. I went to take a flight to Newcastle from Bristol Airport and it was cancelled so Easyjet got us a room in the Thistle before putting us on the early morning flight. By the time we arrived at the hotel we'd been sat on the airport floor for about four hours so we headed straight to the bar. It's a dimly lit underground affair with lots of interesting faces and the whisky was divine. The room was perfectly nice, with the obligatory free toiletries and the breakfast was decent enough. I only wish we could've stayed longer!

Yelp
We chose to stay at the Grand by Thistle because it was listed as a 4 star rating and had impressive looking photos posted online. Unfortunately, the actual hotel was much more disappointing - it was decently clean, but it felt more on par with a dinky Holiday Inn than a 4-star hotel. Cracks and unpainted plaster sprinkled the room walls. There were no outlets anywhere near the bed to power your mobile device or laptop. We arrived to a room with a broken air conditioner and one towel for two people. We tried calling the front desk several times to let them know that the AC was broken. Half the time, no one picked up, and the other half of the time, they responded but never ended up sending someone to fix it. 12 hours later, our room was still stifling warm (over 80 degrees) and they finally agreed to move us to another room. On the day we had to leave, we asked the front desk attendant to arrange for a taxi to arrive in an hour because we had to catch a train. The time came and went with no taxi to be seen. We were getting concerned that we might miss our train, so we asked the front desk attendant to call and check again, at which point he reluctantly called, but not before mumbling under his breath something to the effect of "Americans are more trouble than they're worth." This certainly did not feel like the Thistle's "Signature" luxury service that was touted on its website. During our stay, we did meet some staff that were kind and professional, but it's a shame that most of our experiences with the staff were unhelpful and unpleasant enough to mar our stay in Bristol. Next time we visit, we plan to stay at the Marriott instead.

Yelp
This is a fantastic old boutique hotel in the heart of an old area. Great walking around area. Very close to one of the best Indian restaurants in the UK, "4500 Miles from Delhi." The breakfast was excellent, and I can't say enough about the ambience. Within a two block walk, you have a small rotating street market (fresh cheeses, meats, vegetables), indoor market stalls, and a modern mall complete with post office. Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms larger than I'd expect. Only down side is that some of the rooms are a bit noisy, so ask for the quiet side. My room faced a gorgeous old church. Oh - and the windows open, which for me was icing on the cake. Recommend highly.
