Summing up why I generally prefer boutique hotels, is this one's location on busy Newport Road, stuck in a casserole of industry in which all the ingredients are grey and square.
Once you get inside, there is no doubting it's beauty. But to me, an important part of a hotel is how you feel when you pull up to it, especially as I'm writing about the hotel's event function, rather than its rooms. (For those, who've read other reviews of mine, yes, I know, it seems that all I'm doing at the moment is going to balls; I'm at the end of my degree, cut me some slack.)
The hotel staff here were helpful, allowing us to switch between smaller and larger rooms as our event grew. However, my main issue with the evening would have to be the price. For what we got, which wasn't quite as much as we got from the Thistle, and certainly not as much as we had from the Park Plaza, I would have expected to be paying less.
There's no doubt the evening was a success, and maybe the spa and the views when you actually stay in the hotel make up for this, but when planning an event, I'd be happy to go here... Once I'd checked availability with the Thistle and Park Plaza first.
