Stayed for two nights, room was good size with a good bathroom, with shower and bath. The bed was comfy and very large however think it was two single beds pushed together. Staff was all lovely and helpful. Air con was working absolutely fine with just one lift not being in operation. Breakfast was a buffet style which was had a range of food from cooked breakfast, to cereal and pastries. Seemed very quiet and the restaurant area seemed very clean and looked after. ||Didn't try park at the hotel as the price to park was quite expensive, went to the parking nearby that was suggested that was about a 5 minute walk away. Used the pool area once however did not want to use again with the £10 price every time you want to use it. The sheets within the room were a little dirty (few stains) and there was no biscuits with the tea and coffee provided which surprised me. TV could do with an update seemed to be an older TV something slightly more modern would go a long way, wasn't totally sure the fridge in the room was working that well but did keep things cool. When it came to the lighting the switch by the bed turned off all lights including the side ones would have been handy to turn off main lights and keep the side ones by the bed on but isn't a big deal as there's a lamp in the room.

The room was lovely and spacious, the staff were all welcoming. The breakfast was good and quite a range of food choices. Good location not far from the big shopping centre.|The only disappointment was the pool, hot tub facilities as you had to pay £10 to use this which I though wasn’t too bad but should really be included in hotel prices then I was informed you had to pay £10 every time you wanted to go in the pool area, not 10 for your entire stay, apart from that this is a great place to stay.

Premium price, 1* experience. Avoid this hotel at all costs. We had the misfortune of staying at this hotel on a busy Friday night for £260. Our room was 30 degrees plus for the entire duration of our stay so as a result we got no sleep. We asked the staff whether we could move rooms, get extra fans, and any tips on how to cool down the room, but they couldn't care less. What makes this worse is that after reading reviews they've had no air-con in any rooms for at least a month. If they'd pre-warned me I would have cancelled and re-booked elsewhere rather than staying here. The room also had a horrible damp smell, the sink didn't drain, and king sized bed was just two single beds pushed together. We paid an additional £24 for breakfast before we went to our room. The breakfast was disgusting and mostly inedible. You'd be better off getting breakfast literally anywhere else. *EDIT TO RESPOND TO OWNER* I emailed you via the email address you suggested over 4 days ago and I'm yet to receive a response.

We had a huge room with a king sized bed and two massive windows with a fantastic view of Cardiff City Center. Aircon throughout the hotel and in rooms which you can control yourself. All the staff are so helpful and friendly. There's always someone at the front desk with a smile ready to help you. It's immaculately clean everywhere too. Only a 15min walk to the Shopping Center St Davids.

Awful experience, booked a spa break. There is a £20 surely to park in the hotel carpark which wasn’t clear at the time of booking. I arrived and it took 45 min to check me in as they couldn’t find my booking.|I got to my room it was fine if not just a little outdated but pleasant enough. |I headed down to the spa was told I had to pay another £10 supplement went into the changing rooms and was shocked by the filth I was met with. They were nothing short of disgusting to the point that I did not want my feet to touch the floor.|Dirty, towels and grime everywhere. Used tissues discarded, the floor covered in slime, used water bottles everywhere. Shaved hair all over the mirrors. |I headed into the spa the pool was so dirty you couldn’t see the bottom the hot tub you couldn’t get in because it was packed with males was full of scum. The water fountain was broken.|I turned around and walked out. |This place has serious hygiene risks |AVOID if you are after a spa weekend or day. Please see my photos

Lovely, loved it here, room was lovely and spacious, bath and walk in shower separate. Really perfect size room.lush pillows and bed really comfy. Tv could be bigger. Didn't eat here. And bar was closed by 11pm. However, Didn't use facilities as only here 1 night, also didn't like the extra charge for parking or swimming pool. The other issue was had was check out was 12 noon. Had our doors knocked 3 x for housekeeping, I rang reception as u sure what they wanted..strange really besides annoying as I was in the bath. Apart from that would recommend and return. Great location

Very spacious rooms, but stiflingly hot, AC does not work and you cannot open the windows. So makes for an uncomfortable stay. Would much prefer a small room with a window, might actually be able to get some sleep. Really not what I expect from a 4 star hotel. The spa facilities are actually very good, just not maintained. Two of the four masculine showers work (I believe it's the same in the female changing rooms). Both poolside showers out of order. Door to the steam room only shuts with a plastic bottle wedged in it. Water fountain out of order. Really guys? Just a little maintenance and it would be very good. Just feels like the place could do with a little attention to bring it up standard.

Extremely disappointing hotel. The property is very old, with carpets everywhere and cleanliness far from satisfactory. Breakfast is unworthy of a 4-star hotel: the quality barely matches that of a 2-star. The scrambled eggs, for example, had absolutely no taste other than water. Another particularly shocking point: I had booked when the hotel was still under the Mercure brand (Accor group), and access to the swimming pool was included. Upon arrival, I discovered that it now costs £10 per day, per person. This is completely unacceptable, especially since I had chosen this hotel based on that facility being included in my original booking. I sent a complaint email, and unsurprisingly, never received a reply. We also tried the swimming pool, and it was extremely dirty, despite the fact that three staff members were supposedly “monitoring” the area but doing absolutely nothing. To be fair, there are two positive points: the room is spacious and the location is good, just 10 minutes’ walk from the city center. Having a fridge in the room is also convenient. But these advantages do not make up for the rest. My advice: avoid this hotel, which will probably continue to deteriorate under the new management.

Yelp
I first came across this place when a friend invited me on a hen do that involved staying at the Mecure and enjoying the delights of its Spa facilities. Since they had a great special deal on it turned out to be great value for money. There were 14 different spa treatment rooms offering up the usual sorts of massage and facials, and then there was also a beautiful pool area where we could all get together and spend hours catching up, and a bar not too far away!! The room itself was really spacious and comfy and clean and all the staff seems genuinely happy to offer any help they could. The second time I was there, I was working on a film shoot and we were filming up in the penthouse. The rich really do get all the luck because its an amazing space with 3 bedroom I think and the 360 views over Cardiff. Amazing.

Yelp
This contemporary, 4-star hotel and spa is central and fairly luxurious, located within a few minutes' walk of Queen Street's pedestrianised shopping area and other top city centre attractions. I've been to meetings there, and to the spa and pool area, all of which is very modern. The heated indoor swimming pool's ceiling feels quite low, which I felt made it seem a tiny bit claustrophobic - but with sleek lines and the walls painted white, I think they've probably made the best use of the space they had available. The pool and changing areas were very clean, and this seemed to be the same story throughout the hotel's public spaces - all in all this hotel seems to have high standards and good facilities as well as a top location.

Yelp
There are a number of hotels in central Cardiff but this is the best. Located on Newport Road a five minute walk from Queen Street the hotel is easy to get to whether by car or walking from the central station. The rooms are huge and the views of Cardiff and across the Bristol Channel are great. Entrance to the spa on the ground floor is part of the package so be sure to pack the swimming trunks. The spa area is the best part of the hotel comprising of a pool, hot tub sauna and steam room, it's so relaxing that you'll never want to leave.

Yelp
Stayed here for a business awards event with three colleagues. Checkin staff were as we expected.outstanding! Quick check-in, directions to room & off you go. Room & facilities inc bar/restuarant excellent. Room clean, spacious, all facilites present & working. bathroom again clean and very spacious particularly liked the sperate bath & large shower. Only let down was the wifi not connecting at all, out of hotels hands apparently. Barman even ordered us a pizza for delivery to the hotel, very very pleased with customer service received.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at the Mecure. After being stuck in a so called 5 star hotel resort in Newport for three days for work, wasn't looking forward to being in ANOTHER hotel room. However, stepping foot into our standard double I was pleasantly surprised. The room was a really well thought out and modern space, with cupboards for your luggage and power sockets by the bed. Massive windows with good views of Cardiff and good light blocking curtains. My favourite addition to the room was the diamond bath. Space of one person on each side. Perfect for a relaxing evening in. All the staff were friendly, which is what we've come to find all across the city - a pleasant change from London Life (sorry some clichés are true). Breakfast was OK. Always well stocked with a good selection of breads, pastry and hot food. When you're a veggie however, there's only so much excitement you can muster for baked beans, eggs and mushrooms. Veggie Sausages and other additions such as eggs Benedict were available also at no extra cost. Also included in the price of a room (which we did manage to get a good deal on via booking.com) is access to the Spa facilities. The pool is a good size with a jacuzzi and steam room. We didn't stay in the pool too long due to some splashing badly supervised kids. They weren't that naughty and I always feel bad because most kids are good - but they are blooming annoying when you just want to have a little paddle. The location is brilliant. Close to the Capitol shopping centre, Queens street station and a short walk to most of the tourist attractions - castle and gallery. Clean, Comfortable and friendly. What more can you want when booking a hotel room. I would recommend this hotel highly if visiting the city.

Yelp
The massive tower that greets you as you enter Cardiff city centre, looming over the Newport Road/Richmond Road junction is the Holland House Hotel and Spa. A four-star metropolitan hotel, with a top quality restaurant open on the ground floor for public use that is surprisingly affordable. This isn't a hotel solely reserved for high-flying executives and socialites, with facilities to cater instead for families, couples and businessmen alike. The hotel has several halls available for hire, complete with stages for music and other performances. These halls are all rather massive though, so to properly fill them you need a sizable crowd otherwise everything just looks a little empty. The staff are exceptionally helpful, being more than ready to accommodate most requests if they're capable . The gym is the usual fare, with weights and cardio machines dotted about the air-conditioned room. It is open to the public though, so depending on the time you use it, you may have to suffer a short wait for machines.

Yelp
Summing up why I generally prefer boutique hotels, is this one's location on busy Newport Road, stuck in a casserole of industry in which all the ingredients are grey and square. Once you get inside, there is no doubting it's beauty. But to me, an important part of a hotel is how you feel when you pull up to it, especially as I'm writing about the hotel's event function, rather than its rooms. (For those, who've read other reviews of mine, yes, I know, it seems that all I'm doing at the moment is going to balls; I'm at the end of my degree, cut me some slack.) The hotel staff here were helpful, allowing us to switch between smaller and larger rooms as our event grew. However, my main issue with the evening would have to be the price. For what we got, which wasn't quite as much as we got from the Thistle, and certainly not as much as we had from the Park Plaza, I would have expected to be paying less. There's no doubt the evening was a success, and maybe the spa and the views when you actually stay in the hotel make up for this, but when planning an event, I'd be happy to go here... Once I'd checked availability with the Thistle and Park Plaza first.

Yelp
Here for work. Friendly check-in (they'd all the computery-bits done and ready for me). Upgraded my room as it was slow - nespresso in the room much appreciated, thanks, as was the corner suite. Comfortable bed with two remotes (!?) and really just... pleasant. A nice change *and* a very nice breakfast.

Yelp
Was here with the wife as she was in town for a conference. What to say it's a nice business style hotel in a good location for Cardiff city centre. Has all the usual facilities, the rooms are nice, very good beds and are corporate quality. Didn't try the food, but that's more due to sleep than anything. The one down side I would say is that the bar was a bit limited when it came to good beers, a bit more imagination on the range of drafts would life this place by a star for me..... what can I say I am a fussy beer drinker.

Yelp
I hope you don't make the mistake i made and booked this hotel . I have a long list of issues with his hotel which includes; 1, Inadequate parking places at expensive prices. 2, Hotel did not reserve twin room as requested which meant I had to book two rooms. 3, Attended a charity function which was very good . However the management sabotaged the event and money being raised for the sue Ryder charity . 4, Someone was bottled outside the hotel earlier in the night. I do not think this is a safe area because of this . 5, The hotel closed down the charity event by closing the late night bar early . If this had been someone's wedding then this would have been have created a very bad memory ! I also feel sorry that the event was sabotaged by the hotel and the charity I heard lost alot of money due to their behaviour . 6, The hotel attracts many stag party's and when we stayed, there were 120 Argentinian rugby players . Not creating the most pleasant atmosphere. In summary this was very disappointing and the reason for this is poor management . This is a large chain but unfortunately this hotel does not reflect the mercure chain adequately . There are other higher rated hotels than this one so I would say avoid this one as there are much better hotels in Cardiff .

Yelp
Came here for the bank holiday weekend. Staff were so nice. We got a really nice room, that I rate five stars, hands down. But there spa facilities (steam room, pool, sauna, jacuzzi) were okay. The jacuzzi was lukewarm and it didn't really have bubbles, the steam room was not hot enough.

Yelp
I came here for a weekend trip, and it was a great deal and soooo relaxing. It was raining outside, and we checked in and immediately went to the pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. The spa area was clean and spacious. We came out of the spa so relaxed! The view of Cardiff was great. The room itself was huge and the bathroom had a big tub and shower. I am DEFINITELY coming back next time I happen to be in Cardiff.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel recently to attend a charity event but was hugely disappointed. The rooms and other facilities were nice but the management was shambolic. The front desk and other staff was slow and they seemed to do their best to ruin the event I was at. The actual event was great but it was based on the organisers running a bar in the corner to raise money for a charity and the hotel opened a bar directly outside the room at the last minute! Worse yet, they then randomly cancelled the after party that was scheduled for immediately after and started forcibly ejecting all non-residents. I was in a mixed group of residents and non-residents and they even forced the non-residents in our group to leave! I heard from the receptionist the next morning that they didn't have enough staff to run the bar in the after party as they had opened the other bar earlier on! I felt really sorry for the people running the event and the charity, it seemed like they had set up a great event and worked hard to get 300 people there and the hotel just decided to forget the charity and make all the money they could. Based on the event issues and my overall experience of how this particular hotel is run I would not stay there again. It's a shame because I generally really like the Mecure Hotels and the facilities at this one were fine, but a great room is no good if you struggle with everything else!
