Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel

Rude staff in the restaurant. All others were great. Awful wifi - unreliable and slow. Not acceptable in this day and age. Food in the restaurant was very good. Rooms are a little dated and tired but clean and comfortable. Nicely furnished. Pool is good.

This hotel served my needs. My spacious, attractive and clean room had all the facilities one expects in a four star hotel. I particularly appreciated the comfortable bed and excellent air conditioning. The hotel is showing its age but is generally well maintained. Staff members I encountered were helpful and pleasant. Food in the large restaurant was not high cuisine but was more than adequate. Service there was friendly and prompt. The hotel is located in the heart of Kakadu National Park. On my last evening there, however, my rental car in the parking area was vandalised. This also happened to some other vehicles nearby. The manager and various staff members were particularly helpful in dealing with the situation, including contacting the police and removing the extensive broken glass from inside the car so I could drive back to Darwin. As vehicle vandalism is quite common in parts of the NT, I suggested to the manager that the hotel should have a secure parking area for its guests as occurs at some other NT hotels. Despite what happened at the end of my stay there, I can still recommend the hotel as the best place to stay in Kakadu.|||||||.

The Mercure Kakadu was a good base for a couple of nights while we explored Kakadu National Park. We had a nice room on the first floor which overlooked a very pleasant central garden area with the swimming pool at one end. The swimming pool was great - warm and plenty of sun loungers around it. It was also open until 6.30am-10pm which we appreciated as many hotels close the pool too early.||Our room was great with a nice bathroom with good toiletries. There was a lovely seating area by the window and some fabulous glossy hardback books with photos of the area to read. We would have like a socket on both sides of the bed for charging phones, etc. The lighting was very harsh but we found this a lot in Australian hotels.||The public areas of the hotel were attractive with a shop selling souvenirs and indigenous products. There was also a great art gallery and pieces by indigenous artists in the main lobby.||We found the town of Jabiru a lot more basic than expected with utilitarian like buildings and no charm. The supermarket was in a vast building and had lots of items but the food was very basic. We didn't find any place to eat so ate at the hotel. The first night we had a nice meal in the main restaurant. The food was great but the room is cavernous and not that nice. The second night we ate in the bar at the side and our food - we both had Chicken Shawarma - was almost inedible - bits of tough brown meat and very greasy. We left most of them and regretted getting one each as the portions were large. Worst meal we had on our three week trip. Which was a shame as the food in the hotel the night before was very good.||We did appreciate the proximity to Ubirr, a 30 minute drive, as we were able to view the sunset there which was marvellous. We got back before it was completely dark. There were a lot of other cars doing the same thing so we felt a little safer than if we'd been driving in isolation. ||The entrances into the hotel were odd - our room was accessed by an ugly concrete outdoor staircase doubling back on itself. It was the 'back leg of the crocodile' that the building is shaped in. We were anxious there was no secure area to leave our car. We'd been repeatedly told to stay somewhere where we could have secure parking but had no choice here. Anyone could access the parking and the hotel areas. ||We enjoyed our stay but the room was expensive for what it was. With hindsight we wished we'd stayed one night here and one night in Coolalinga as we wanted to do the Yellow River Sunrise cruise but it was too dangerous to drive the one hour to Coolalinga for the boat in the dark. We did ask at reception for advice and the man on duty showed us a video of a water buffalo on the road on his way to work at 5.30am. It was stopped and then ran in front of the car ahead of him just as the car was starting to pull off. Interesting and frightening to us - we don't have this issue in the UK! We were very grateful to him for showing us this as it was the beginning of our big road trip and it helped us make sensible driving choices the whole trip. All of the staff we encountered at the hotel were helpful and friendly.

This was our 4th time stayed in Croc Hotel. Great hotel in Kakadu. Spacious bedroom and nice restaurant. Kangaroo steak is to die for but since it's the national emblem, my partner told me to respect and had a break of it this time HAHA. They used to serve pretty good buffet dinner as well. Breakkie was good too. Highly recommended!!

Take time to enjoy the artwork in the gallery, the pool and relax at the bar. We had a wonderful time. The staff are attentive and helpful. The rooms may not be modern, but they are comfy with a lovely view of the pool. We enjoyed every meal at the restaurant. When we stayed, the place was full which added to the wonderful atmosphere and buzz of staying in the heart of Kakadu.

We had a good experience at Mercure Kakadu. The room albeit a little dated, was clean, comfortable and had easy access to the pool and restaurant. The art gallery inside the reception was stunning and the dinner was very tasty!

The hotel is comfortable and well licated for activities and sites across this part of Kakadu. The rooms are large and come with the things you'd expect. The hotel is showing its age though and would benefit from updating. The rooms and facilities are functional rather than quality. All that said though, I'd choose to stay here again.

The rooms are a little dated, in particular the bathroom. Outside the room area very dated and no nice area to sit. However, the restaurant meal was the worst I have had. When we ordered, the waitress was tapping her pen when my wife was deciding on her meal. She seemed more interested in getting back behind the counter. When the meal was delivered, entree and my wife’s meal was delivered. After 25 minutes and my 3rd drink, I then had to go ask where my meal was, the reply, “ did you want the meals together” which I said yes to, the waitress then said she would see where it was. 15minutes later, my wife’s meal has well and truly finished her meal. At this stage I had to go back up, tell them I wanted my meal, to again the waitress replied I’ll see where it is. Some time after that my meal finally arrived, they had already cleared the table of entree and my wife’s main. Some time later a waiter then apologized for the meal. I’m in my mid 60s, I’ve never had cause to complain about service in my life. Absolutely the worst service I have ever had.

Could I give it fewer than 1 star? While Kakadu National park is worth the visit make it a day trip from Darwin. This hotel is filthy, understaffed and poorly run. Example have 2 people in the room get 1 towel have 4 people on the room get 1 towel. When a request for additional towels was made we were told they would get to it when they could. Several calls later we were told they just didn't have enough towels. We didn't expect much when it wasn't listed in Fodors and we weren't surprised. Definitely DO NOT visit.
