I had a fabulous ☕🫖🍰afternoon tea at this hotel many years ago (when it was the Shakespeare Hotel) with a colleague (we both were working at the local college there). Italian Luka was the Maitre d. The food was delicious. The hotel was beautifully refurbished at the time as you would expect for a historic Tudor building. Ideal location for people visiting the town as it's central to all the main tourist attractions plus close to the 🚆train station.

This place is awful. It sells itself on the old building and location but that's all it has going for - enter through the door and it is one huge disappointment after another. The place is dusty, shabby, and unclean (old rubbish under the bed, previous occupants hairs in the sink and shower, etc). As for the food, cheap doesn't do it justice. My vegan breakfast consisted of 1 sausage and a spoonful of beans (yes, literally); the shame on the staff member's face when they put it on my table was evident. All the food quality is the lowest of the low, even the (so called) orange juice was so cheap it was undrinkable. We skipped the breakfast even though it was included in the price. Shame on you Mercure - a four star hotel you are not!

Hotel is outdated. Beautiful building but rooms are musty, poor ventilation. Bed far too soft. No water left in room and didn't want to risk drinking from the cold tap as everything seems so dated. Not seen a lick of paint in a long time, lots of scuffs and scratches. Went for a drink in the bar at 6.30pm but it was not open. Rooms need refurbishing. Floorboards very squeaky so you hear everyone that walks past your room or in the room above. No plug socket by the side of the bed

We booked this hotel for my birthday. We got to the room, cold, tv didn't work and tired. We moved to a different room, nicecand big but cold. No heating. The staff were really polite and the breakfast was lovely. It would be nice to have a biscuit in your room with your coffee. Great location, parking good. Wouldn't stay again but put the stay down to experience.

The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The room was lovely we stayed in the old part of the hotel with lovely beams. we were surprised to find air conditioning which was great as it was very warm weather, also a fridge, iron & ironing board. Breakfast was nice though the eggs being kept under heated lamps dried up (would have preferred cooked to odder). we felt that the carparking was way to expensive at £15 for an overnight stay. however over all it was a lovely stay.

Room was comfortable with immaculate bedding. Bathroom gleaming with fixed toiletries. Also had ironing board, iron, hairdryer and fridge, tea and coffee maker. Staff friendly and breakfast was buffet style and superb. Amazing choice of hot and cold food. Yes, carpet under desk was a bit threadbare, but you must “look at the flowers and not the broken fence!!” Great central location. Hotel car park nearby around the corner.

This hotel is the real deal. It is old and creaky and full of Tudor charm. It is centrally located for everything that you want to do around town, within walking distance of the train station and all the touristy spots. The room and bed were comfortable and a decent size. It does need a bit of sprucing up, but all in all I enjoyed my stay here.

This hotel is rather a mixed bag. On the positive side it is very conveniently situated in the centre of town in a beautiful old black and white timbered building. Our bedroom was clean and quiet and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was fine. The price we paid was reasonable However, the hotel has a forlorn, neglected air about it. The place really does need a thorough clean in the public areas and refurbishment everywhere. The dim light in front of the lift was absolutely filthy, the walls are grubby, paint is chipped off the skirting boards, door frames and doors, the carpet under the dressing table in our room was literally moth eaten. The public bar and lounge are dark, dingy and dated and not at all inviting. It is such a shame as this should and could be a wonderful place to stay. Mercure, please invest in it.

Yelp
I was excited to stay at this historic hotel, but once we got there, I was disappointed by the room. The bathroom was gross, my friend warned me to not look up -- and I did of course, and saw mold. Since this is a property from the 17th century, I expected it to be charming but dark (as Tudor buildings tend to be), but not dirty or dingy. The rest of the room was okay, but it's clear that they do the bare minimum to keep the rooms presentable. For the price we paid, I would think they could clean, sand down, and paint to get rid of mold. The staff weren't particularly helpful but I'm okay being more or less left alone so I was okay with it. I do appreciate the historic call-outs throughout the lobby, and the rooms are all named after Shakespearean characters, which is cute. Other than that, the hotel is in a terrific location. Everything you'd want to experience in Stratford-Upon-Avon is a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Yelp
The hotel is very well located in town. Only a couple minute walk to the theatre in one direction, and a few minutes walk to Shakespeare's birthplace in the other direction. The place is very well decorated with a small bar on one side of the entrance and restaurant on the other side. The service is friendly, they have parking, the rooms are nice and clean with a very comfortable bed. And the maid service is fantastic. Never once during my stay did they come knocking on the door in the morning to clean, as often happens, and the room was always clean when I returned to it at any point in the day. My only real complaint and the reason for the score is the thin floors. When I made my reservation I asked for a quiet room. So if the room I was given is a quite one, I could only imagine what the others are like. The floors in my room and the one above me, and the hallway outside creaked with even the lightest step. Whenever I would move in the room I felt bad for the people below me, and unfortunately the people above me didn't seem to care about the person below them. I don't spend a lot of time in a hotel room when traveling, but when I am in the room it is usually for the purpose of sleep. And when the people above you are apparently pacing in their hotel room from roughly 1:30 in the morning until 3:00 it makes it kind of hard to achieve the desired sleep.
