Where to Stay in Melbourne During Your Visit (Updated 2025)

"I like Mercure Welcome as a budget-friendly option smack in the center of it all; as a reliable global chain, this location offers 330 tastefully furnished rooms with plus-sized beds, minibars, desks, and some rooms even have great city views." - Matthew Kepnes

As a Gold Accor member I have stayed in many different Accor hotels. This by far is the worse Mecure. It should be an Ibis Budget. Check in was a breeze. The new electronic system is great. The location is also great but that's about where the positives stop Parking well take a packed lunch its 2 or so blocks from the hotel. The bed was woeful I think I felt every spring. The room otherwise was fine. Upon arrival I looked for the usual welcome gift but there was none in the room. However they did deliver it later but to be honest it felt like an after thought. Don't park in the wrong car parking!!!! Don't follow the Google maps to said car parking. They will not help you with this error at all. I read other reviews that say the same about the beds but the response from the manager is very generic and obviously these things have not been addreses.

A decent hotel but not at a 4 star level. Location is excellent, close to all amenities. Breakfast is standard fare for mid range Accor hotels. We had a free upgrade to a king bed room which was nice. The room itself was clean and tidy but the carpets are dusty. The shower was fantastic- a strong steady stream of water. Bathroom lacked countertop space so we stored a lot of our toiletries on the desk. The rooms are serviced every 3 days but you can request a service before then (we didn't bother). Teas are provided with UHT milk in the bar fridge. The bed's blanket was too small for the bed. It only just covered the top of the mattress which resulted in lots of sleepy tug-of-war trying to stay covered. We didn't have a lot of interaction with staff but they were friendly and professional. The check-in and check out process was quick and easy.

We stayed in a twin room for three nights to do a bit of Christmas in the city. For the price we were super pleasantly surprised by the terrific friendly service of all staff, an excellent breakfast and the location. We will definitely come back even though we only live a few suburbs away. It’s really central and surrounded by great eateries and so many things to do. Good Internet and a quiet room even though we were in the dead centre. With free tram transport in the city you can go anywhere and do anything in a great radius. We saw A Christmas Carol and checked out the new underground train stations. It’s great to go and stay in your own city. P.s.one small thing shower is small and you’re going to get a shower, just turning the taps on. If that doesn’t get you, the soap dish will.

Great location for a hotel and the staff are wonderful, but the rooms are a pretty big letdown. The website claimed it was recently renovated, but it definitely doesn't seem like it. The beds are extremely uncomfortable (couldn't sleep more than like 3 hours a night) and the air conditioning is ridiculously loud. Our room's TV didn't work and the body wash pump in the bathroom was broken on arrival. Though the staff were very apologetic and arranged for it to be fixed quickly. The bathroom wasn't very clean and the carpet's pretty musty. They also only clean every 3 days, which is annoying when you're only staying for a short while. Probably won't stay here again, would rather spend a little bit more and stay somewhere nicer. Sad, since we've had great experiences at other Mercure hotels.

Poor customer experience!!! No help could be given when the car park is totally far from the hotel.. no literal sign at the car park on where to park. we saw the logo of the hotel and thought it must be it but when we checked out, we were charged whole price. the lady named Madoka (trainee) wouldn’t let us speak with the manager saying they cant do anything. she refused to explain, refused to talk to her manager. no care at all!!! never staying here again and won’t recommend.. We will write to corporate I know they probably dont do anything but the experience was awful!!!

Dismal! Basically a 2 star hotel barely punching up to a 3. The lowlights: 2 lifts for a hotel with 400+ rooms …1 lift out of order over multiple days. Locked fire escapes! Rotten mattresses with broken springs. Carpet so filthy you might catch something from it. Suboptimal water temperature that you can’t control in the shower (not safe for kids). The icing on the grotty cake… housekeeping every 3 days only! 4 star hotel?? The highlights: absolutely none.

The Welcome Mercure, located near Chinatown, is a hotel with a high price tag relative to the services and room size offered. 👍 The Positives The location is exceptional. Situated in the heart of the CBD, everything is within easy walking distance. 👎 The Drawbacks • Noise and Size: The hotel is on a very busy street, and noise can be an issue. The rooms are very small, offering limited space for movement. • Housekeeping: Room cleaning is provided only after every three nights, which is surprising and inconvenient. • Service Delays: While fresh towels are available upon request, delivery by staff takes an excessively long time. It is advisable to place requests directly at the reception before leaving the hotel for the day. • Breakfast: The breakfast is decent but limited, operating on a complete self-service model. Guests must even collect their own cutlery, which feels below standard for the price point. • Membership: My Accor membership benefits were not honored during the stay.

Sharing my honest experience with one of the Accor Group hotels during my recent trip to Australia. Unfortunately, this stay was the only disappointing part of my journey. I stayed for five nights, but housekeeping only tidied up the room once. For the rest of the stay, basic services such as rubbish collection, fresh towels, tissue replenishment, and general room upkeep were not provided — which is far below the expected hotel standard. The room itself also didn’t feel particularly clean or comfortable. On the positive side, the location was fantastic — truly convenient and central, which is the only reason I gave it any points. Overall, the experience felt more like staying in a youth hostel rather than a hotel from an international chain. I wouldn’t recommend it to travelers expecting full-service hotel standards.
