Where to Stay in Melbourne During Your Visit (Updated 2025)

"I like Mercure Welcome as a budget-friendly option smack in the center of it all; as a reliable global chain, this location offers 330 tastefully furnished rooms with plus-sized beds, minibars, desks, and some rooms even have great city views." - Matthew Kepnes

A decent hotel but not at a 4 star level. Location is excellent, close to all amenities. Breakfast is standard fare for mid range Accor hotels. We had a free upgrade to a king bed room which was nice. The room itself was clean and tidy but the carpets are dusty. The shower was fantastic- a strong steady stream of water. Bathroom lacked countertop space so we stored a lot of our toiletries on the desk. The rooms are serviced every 3 days but you can request a service before then (we didn't bother). Teas are provided with UHT milk in the bar fridge. The bed's blanket was too small for the bed. It only just covered the top of the mattress which resulted in lots of sleepy tug-of-war trying to stay covered. We didn't have a lot of interaction with staff but they were friendly and professional. The check-in and check out process was quick and easy.

The Welcome Mercure, located near Chinatown, is a hotel with a high price tag relative to the services and room size offered. 👍 The Positives The location is exceptional. Situated in the heart of the CBD, everything is within easy walking distance. 👎 The Drawbacks • Noise and Size: The hotel is on a very busy street, and noise can be an issue. The rooms are very small, offering limited space for movement. • Housekeeping: Room cleaning is provided only after every three nights, which is surprising and inconvenient. • Service Delays: While fresh towels are available upon request, delivery by staff takes an excessively long time. It is advisable to place requests directly at the reception before leaving the hotel for the day. • Breakfast: The breakfast is decent but limited, operating on a complete self-service model. Guests must even collect their own cutlery, which feels below standard for the price point. • Membership: My Accor membership benefits were not honored during the stay.

Our stay here was adequate for what we needed. The room was a bit dark and the outlook was ordinary, the window just looking up a laneway. The bathroom was a bit small, but sufficed. The hotel is centrally located, making it a great choice to see things around Melbourne. Was a little dissapointed that they did not turn the bed down during our stay (we stayed 2 nights, we were told that they only turn the bed down every third night). The roof top bar was excellent, the pizzas to die for! Lots of choice at breakfast. In summary a well located hotel with dark but clean rooms, adequate for somewhere to sleep, a great middle of the road hotel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great Stay at the Mercure – Almost Perfect! Welcome to Melbourne! We stayed at the Mercure and overall had a wonderful experience. The room was spotless, the breakfast was outstanding, and the hotel is perfectly located for shopping and exploring the city. Reception staff were friendly, fast, and efficient — check-in was a breeze. The only downside was having to wait an hour for room service, and that was just for two drinks 😒. Aside from that small hiccup, everything else was excellent. Comfortable stay, great amenities, and unbeatable location. Would definitely stay again!

Old bed with wires you could feel. Room cleaning only every third day. No bar available on Mondays. No hotel info in room. Four stars really?? Ordered wine/bubbles on arrival which didn't turn up. Four days later I chased that to get a refund. Three days later I get first communication from management with an apology and a house bottle of sav.

the location is strategic if you want to travel around Melbourne's city center. It's very close to everything. The lobby is quite cramped, especially when there are tour groups or groups of airline cabin crew present. There are two elevators, which, considering the number of guests going up and down, and the speed of the lifts, makes the process of getting back to the room or leaving the hotel take a little time. The breakfast provided was very good, in my opinion. Simple but delicious, especially the fruits. It seemed like there were only 2–3 staff members working as guest check-in attendants and cleaning up the breakfast area, and this made things feel a bit hectic. Plates and glasses were quickly cleared away. The room was okay, in my opinion. However, the AC/heater needs to be cleaned better, as the dust was visible and detectable by smell. During my stay, one of the guests was smoking inside their room and then blowing the smoke out into the hallway. I didn't smell it in my room, but another guest seemed to complain, and the hotel staff were quite prompt in taking action.

Great location and the front desk staff were great. However for anyone coming to this hotel, just letting you know that they only make your bed and change your bedding every 3 days. The place including the halls and elevators need a good vacuum around the edges. There is a build up of dust. The breakfast was good and the older attendant was helpful.

The location was amazing, and the price was really good! I thought the room we had was quite large, and was clean with a comfy bed. But the walls were quite thin, and it was easy to hear other guests. Bathroom needed more space. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
