Merivale Manor

Lovely place! The hosts (owners?) of this place are a lovely, friendly, hardworking couple. We stayed in the Peacock Suite- everything we had hoped for- comfortable bed, nice couch and very quiet. We made a simple meal one night in our room, as well as our own breakfasts, but generally ate out. Kitchen had all necessary implements. Merivale Manor is close to everything- shopping downtown and the Botanical Garden. Highly recommend!

In early December 2025, my wife had an accident on the west coast of New Zealand. She was transported to Christchurch, after which I followed her in the rental car that evening. During the long journey, my daughter spoke with Wayne. He was willing to reserve a wheelchair-accessible room for me, even though it was very late at night. The length of my hospital stay and repatriation were uncertain, but Wayne and Karen were extremely flexible. The uncertainty of my stay and later the wait for my return flight were no problem at all. During my stay, they were an exceptional support, which I really appreciated given the situation. Every problem was resolved, nothing was too much trouble. The room was extremely clean and spacious, the beds comfortable, and fully equipped. The car was safely parked. My laundry was also done for me while I was in the hospital. I can only express my gratitude to Wayne and Karen for their support and extremely personal approach. And all for a very reasonable price.

We spent our first night in New Zealand at Merivale Manor and couldn’t have asked for a better start. Our room was quiet, clean, comfortable and kitted out with everything you could need. Wayne and Karen were excellent hosts and clearly really care about the experience of their guests. We just wish we could have stayed longer!

I loved my stay at the manor, it is such a beautiful place and we instantly felt at home with its calm and relaxing vibe. It was a dream come true for me to get ready at the manor with my bridal party and I would highly recommend future brides to consider Merivale Manor for accommodation and a place to get ready in the morning. The manor also offered lots of stunning spots for photos, with one of my highlights being getting to take photos in front of their Christmas tree. Beautiful accommodation with the premium suite in the old homestead, superbly appointed, with the atmosphere of old-world charm. Gorgeous hosts with the right balance of friendliness, attention to detail and privacy. Awesome location and the hosts make an excellent flat white - just go to the office! Very clean, with wonderful linen and super comfy beds. One of the best sleeps I have had for a long time!

Wonderful hosts and a wonderful location. My parents used an accessible room, perfectly setup for limited mobility. We had a three bedroom apartment for us and the kids. Perfect in every way!

Merivale Manor is located in a good location, close to shops and restaurants and a short distance to Christchurch centre. The atmosphere here was peaceful, our room was immaculate, comfortable with every attention to detail. Excellent value, and the whole place was spotless inside and out. Although on a busy road noise was minimal. The service offered by Wayne and Karen was first class and made us welcome, we would definitely return to Merivale if we ever came back to Christchurch.

Room 209, superbe, a very large twin with kitchen facilities, walk in shower, dining table chairs and sofa was very comfortable. Host Wayne is very helpful and accommodated our late departure request. The Victorian manor house includes a shared library with interesting book selection including travel guides. Metro bus stops are adjacent, and the bus system is straight forward with help at the central bus interchange. Walking distance to Truffles for breakfast and Tutto Bene for Italian style dinner and Fresh Choice supermarket.

We enjoyed our stay at Merivale Manor. We got a bit more room than we are used to, as our room had a little kitchen. The staff was very friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The whole place was quite nice and I would definitely recommend staying here.

This place was great! Modern, clean, comfortable accommodations in a convenient location. The light breakfast they provided was also appreciated! We stayed in an apartment across the street from the main Manor. Our unit was 3 stories. There was a master bedroom with en suite bathroom on the first floor. The second floor featured a cozy sitting area, kitchenette, and washer/dryer. (Unfortunately, the washer and dryer were surprisingly difficult to use and slower than expected.) The third floor contained two additional bedrooms (one with a queen bed, and one with two twin beds) and a shared bathroom. The set up is great for two or more couples (or families) traveling together. The coffee and tea provided was plentiful, and the light breakfast provided (a variety of cereals, milk, bread, and spreads) was very convenient and helpful. The location is convenient - a 15 minute drive to the airport and close to the Merivale Mall. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and we really appreciated the fact that Gwyneth took the time to bring us our milk and bread personally, and showed us around the apartment. These are great accommodations at a reasonable price!
