My daughter had basketball in Yarmouth and we decided to stay at the Mermaid. The room was redone and very nice. The bathroom was the only outdated part but that didn’t bother us. It was clean and comfy. The only suggestion I would have in the winter to have a mat by the door to help maintain the floors from snow and salt. They made the eggs in the morning fresh, being preordered the night before. Very friendly staff. We paid about $100 so I feel we got our moneys worth.

The rooms were very nice and the beds were comfy. I am Gluten free and Vegan, they couldn’t really accommodate for breakfast in the morning. They didn’t have any vegan options other than apples and oranges, they brought me gluten free bread but it was cold and only had 3 slices in the bag so it was picked at by other people and unsanitary. They don’t have a separate toaster for gluten free bread so you just need to have cold bread with some of their spreads like jam. (I forgot to take pictures of the room until the day after)

My stay at the southwest west was one of convenience , l am relocating from Ontario to Nova Scotia , and was glad to stay here , it is conveniently located on the main street in Yarmouth .The units are clean and comfortable . There is a breakfast with the room from 6:00 to 9:00 am . Places to eat are within walking distance and with great ocean views..

We stayed here (Jan 15th)the night before my husband test at the hospital, which was the next day at 11:15. It was a cold day -5. When we went to our room, at 3:30pm. it was very cold. The heater was only set to 60. I immediately turned it up to 72 and made sure the heat light was lit. We got our stuff in the room but had to keep our coats on. A bit later, my husband started drinking the liquids in preparation for his test the next morning. By 6 pm the heater was still going but it seemed to not get much warmer there. The air coming out of the heater was close to lukewarm not warm or hot. By this time we were in our beds to get warm. I should have notified the front desk but my husband was in his pyjamas and needing to go to the bathroom a lot. He felt he didn’t want to leave the room and go out in the cold as we were already cold. Anyway it’s safe to say our night wasn’t good. In the morning I complained and when paying I was extremely disappointed when they did not take some money off our room. The breakfast was good as I was the only one that could eat, but we will not be going back! Very disappointed!

What a surprise find! I don’t usually stay in chain motels unless for a specific location reason, which is why I chose this motel close to the ferry. And I couldn’t believe how terrific it was! The room itself was great, very clean and with comfortable beds and a great shower. But what put this motel over the top was the unexpected breakfast … not just the continental items for those who needed to grab and go for the ferry, but one that was hot, freshly cooked to order, and delicious! And I’m sorry I don’t know the name of the gentleman who was managing the front desk and the breakfast, but he was outstanding - very warm and friendly, attentive to every detail, and keeping things moving well. I don’t know if this particular Best Western might be indicative of the quality in the U.S., but I will now not hesitate to give them a try!

Incredible for a motel! For $150 USD, a super comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and cozy room, friendly staff, awesome shower, FRESH COOKED BREAKFAST, and excellent location for taking the ferry to and from Maine. Tiny bathroom and slightly discolored shower/tub stall were no problem at all. Can’t recommend this place highly enough for the ferry traveler!! Much better than Hampton Inn we stayed in in Halifax.

This is the Hotel to use for your Yarmouth connection to the Ferry. We made our reservations real late and they were able to get us a great room with a view of a bunch of beautiful whitetail deer that showed up for a show in the back yard. Very nice staff and we were thrilled with the fantastic breakfast they cooked for us in the morning. Real scrambled eggs and sausage with the option of all the bagels toast and hot fresh coffee. Very nice staff. Thank you for helping us along our way. They represented great Hospitality that really made us happy. From a Mississippi and Louisiana couple. Bravo!

Yelp
Overall VERY sketchy. Within the first 3 seconds of opening the door the place seemed pretty solid, having stayed there during COVID-19 they had put stickers on the door to ensure you they have thoroughly cleaned the room... they did not. After checking the room out further I had noticed the shower curtain rod had been very poorly installed. The screws were practically coming out of the wall. Not only that but there was hair left of the side of the shower from whoever last stayed there. Keep in mind we're in a pandemic. For breakfast options we had received a paper with options on it for what we wanted in the morning, safe to say that they had ran out of most things they would normally serve (orange juice, waffles, breakfast sandwiches etc.). There were only snack options to choose from like muffins, fruit, and granola bars. Along with that they also didn't serve coffee! Which isn't that big of a deal since there is a Tim Horton's directly across the street, but still, what hotel doesn't have coffee. Overall the bedding was okay other than the throw pillow sized pillows and large red stain on the fitted sheet. The view as well was not nice as we were placed in the back of the hotel just looking at some houses.

Yelp
Overpriced view of Taco Bell and a propane station. We stayed here for convenience to the ferry and it served its purpose . . . for the most part. The room was clean and the bedding was nice. During the night we could hear a lot of noise even with the air conditioner running. The odors in the room also made for a night of tossing and turning (musty & smoky). The kitchenette in its harvest gold shade is straight outta the 1970s, but we only needed the fridge which was modern and served its purpose. When I approached the front desk staff about the smoky smell in the room their response was that the odors seem to come out more when it is damp. Well, isn't it often damp or foggy in this part of NS?? The breakfast sufficed and there was a big variety of foods (cereal, sandwiches, fruit, waffles, muffins, toast, bagels). The coffee was scaldingly hot and took quite awhile to cool down. See my photo of the shelf brackets in the bathroom too. Usually I'd say you get what you pay for, but for the price a good night's sleep would have been appreciated. I will not stay here again and I am not sure I will stay at a Best Western again either.

Yelp
A great convenient spot to stay in Yarmouth! The rooms & linens were very clean. Well working a/c & nice, soft beds. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great breakfast in the am -- they were more than willing to allow us to eat even though we slept late and arrived just prior to closing! We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and inviting. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Give it 2.5 stars if we could. We spent the night here before departing on the wonderful Nova Star ferry service to Maine. (Check out our review of the Nova Star please.) The motel does not have interior corridors, which we much prefer for reasons of safety and privacy. It also shows its age, but the smallish rooms are quite comfortable and surprisingly quiet. The motel advertises it is within walking distance of the ferry terminal; more precisely it's a less than five minute drive. It is, however, less than a minute walk from KFC and McDonalds, if that counts for you. The front desk staff doesn't show much personality, but let's face it -- we were here for convenience so we were close to the terminal. That worked -- but we think the motel is pricier than it ought to be given the age.

Yelp
I was very pleased with my stay at the Best Western Mermaid. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much and really just wanted a decent place to sleep for one night. The staff was friendly and efficient at check-in. The room was very clean and quite modern with large flat screen tv, laminate wood floors, and comfortable beds. I would absolutely recommend this place for the value.
