This is not a bar, but more of an autonomous area in Ljubljana, where the underground art scene meets hip bars and street art. It’s actually inside a few ex-military barracks, and is truly a cultural hub of the city. If you aren’t afraid of a bit of an adventure, then come here. This isn’t a place for those afraid of the punk attitude, but those looking for a home made back-alley drink; the “Bear Blood” shot, or the local Pivo (beer). The people here are always great fun, and you will have no trouble finding someone to converse with. It’s definitely a lot of fun! Try Jalla Jalla, a bar in the area that subsequently sells the cheapest beer in the city. It gets quite busy in the evening, which is no surprise once you make it here!

Small group of derelict buildings taken over by unconventional 'artists' with an edgy vibe. Worth a look maybe if passing. Don't expect to welcomed & be careful not to take photos of any the residents. Within all the artwork there are some very creative impressive pieces

This place is pretty weird, but a visit should not be missed if you have enough time. About a 15-minute walk from the old town and in the immediate vicinity of the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum is a square covered in graffiti and works of art. When viewing and photographing, you should make sure that you only photograph the works of art and graffiti and not people. A little insider tip for people who want to see a little more of Ljubljana than just the old town.

We discovered the place back in 2014 and we really loved it. It had great vibes and was quite unique. Paintings, graffiti, sculptures and pieces of art were in really good shape. We went back there in 2017, almost the same impression. Now (2024), the place has somehow decayed, the walls and doors are quite in a bad shape. The worst is that the all quarter has been taken over by dealers and junkies. It doesn’t feel safe and is not as beautiful as it used to be, it feels more like another abandoned place.

Really place to visit, we went there in the early morning, so it was quite quiet, there was actually some one painting some new murals on the wall it was fascinating to watch someone, who was very talented doing this type of art Apparently in the evenings there are bars that open up , but unfortunately we didn’t have time to go back

I went to Metelkova a few times, and while its history is really cool, the place itself is underwhelming. Unless there is a concert or one of the night clubs are open, it's dead in the evening/at night (much like the rest of Ljubljana, for that matter ; some nights I felt like I was in a ghost town). Some of the street art and sculptures are pretty cool, but compared to other places (like La Friche in Marseille), it is definitely underwhelming. I went to a concert, which was very cool (small stage, I was able to meet the musicians of the first band).
