beautiful place rich in history and path to walk around. there are signs also in English retelling the history. views from there are gorgeous. the entry is 5€ for person. don't forget to take a jacket, it's by the coast and tends to be very windy.

A spectacular castle for picture taking and history, especially on a sunny day. You can walk all over, and the very end - the tower at the sea, is so picturesque. Highly recommend it. Just note that the last entrance is at even before 3pm - we came at 3 and they said we had 2 minutes.

A majestic castle at sunset – stunning, vast, and a bit neglected. The Castle of Methoni (also known as Modon) is one of the largest and most impressive Venetian fortresses in the entire Mediterranean. Its size alone is enough to leave you speechless, and the location – stretching out into the sea with a small watchtower on an island connected by a bridge – makes it absolutely worth a visit. Entrance is €5, but as in many Greek sites, EU citizens under 25 can enter for free. I highly recommend visiting in the late afternoon so you can enjoy the magical light of the sunset. Walking along the bastions or across the main square as the sun goes down is an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, the castle closes at 8 PM, so you only get a glimpse of the sunset before having to leave. It’s a shame, because it would be amazing to stay longer. That said, it’s clear the site isn’t very well maintained. There’s no map, no real signage, and some areas feel almost abandoned. You can explore freely, but some parts can be unsafe due to lack of barriers or upkeep – especially near the higher bastion areas. Still, that raw, unpolished charm adds something unique. In the end, I strongly recommend it. Methoni itself is a lovely town, and this castle is absolutely a must-see if you’re in the area.

Worth visiting for sure. Tuesday's the castle is closed for visitors but you could explore the area around it. Majestic, timeless, powerful energy. The raw sea is captivating against the castle walls, an eternal battle. Very appreciative of the on going restoration works.

The view from here is absolutely stunning. While the castle isn’t perfectly preserved, that only gives it a romantic, timeworn charm. It’s an absolute must-see — just wear sturdy shoes and watch your step, since some paths feel more like climbs and can get quite adventurous. The combination of sea, stone, and history is unforgettable.

The visit of the castle ruins is very pleasant and interesting, definitely recommended. The location is extremely impressive, practically built on the cliffs overlooking the sea. A €5.00 ticket for adults is required for the visit, which can be purchased at the entrance, while children/youths from an EU country up to 25 years old get in free. It takes about two hours to visit the entire area, which is quite wide. Since there are no shelters from the sun, it is advisable to visit the castle in the late afternoon, so as to also enjoy a beautiful view of the sunset, note that the castle closes at 8 p.m. The only drawback is that in many areas of the castle, it is possible to walk on walls or areas that are extremely exposed or overhanging, without any protection against falling, so special care must be taken.
