The meal was fine but what really ruined my experience was to see the staff eat behind the counter while handling and serving food, we even made eye contact and the busser just shrugged his shoulders, continued eating and not caring about the empty plates in front of me. The lack of respect to costumers is what really ruined my meal, I understand the staff is young but they need common knowledge and decency with food handling.

After a doctor's appointment, we wanted to eat breakfast. We google to find a place and this was the result. There was no wait time. The server was quick to serve coffee immediately. The location was clean, and the decor was nice. Tje food was served quickly, and it was good. I will definitely return.

According to my wife: Best breakfast she had her whole life. Had the steak for breakfast and it was an excellent meal!

I have ordered chicken pasta, the chicken was very hard, less sauce, food wasn’t great, but it’s a nice spot.my friends ordered salmon pasta, it was very dry and no sauce at all, pasta sticking together. The service was good.

Had breakfast here today and it's one of the better diners I've been to for sure! Breakfast is my favorite meal time and I had eggs, with crispy home fries, and crispy bacon! It was very delicious. The service was very good and the staff seemed very kind and friendly. Loved the ambiance of the place.

I feel very fortunate to live so close to this gem. Amazing vibes, fast and friendly service, and food that has always hit the mark for me. :) love dining alone or with others here!

Google
Classic old school New York diner in the heart of the Upper West Side. If you’re looking for that real diner feel this is the place to go. Booths with mid century modern and vinyl coverings, Formica or faux-woodtop tables. Everybody enjoyed their food which included banana pancakes (a big hit), waffles with strawberries, chicken tenders, a salad, and the veggie burger. There are not many choices here for vegans (hence the four stars) but the veggie burger was decent, though it came dry with neither lettuce nor tomato. Coffee was hot and service was fast and friendly. Prices seemed a touch on the high side but if you want a diner with all the traditional diner fare this is a great choice.

Yelp
Metro Diner is great food is amazing pancakes are fluffy also everything the food tastes so real and fresh. Service does take a little long while getting a table even had to wait 20 minutes. Besides that food is great.

Yelp
My husband and I popped in for a quick breakfast before a doctor appointment . This place is usually packed but on a early Monday morning around 8 am we were seated immediately . Our food took a little while to come but when it did we were pleasantly surprised at how good the portion size was , the food came out warm and tasty . A good classic breakfast spot . I took one star away because I was pregnant and the booth space was a little tight on my belly . If youre in the area and want a good breakfast in a place with that good old fashioned homey diner feel in the middle of this busy city pop in . Happy eating

Yelp
I really loved the classic diner vibe. The service was fast, but the customer service left something to be desired. Our server made us feel rushed, and everyone at my table felt the same way. We asked for more time twice but felt brushed off afterward. When it came time to order, the server insisted we buy drinks even after we repeatedly declined. As for the food, it was just okay.

Yelp
One of the best deli's on the UWS. It's away from the tourist scene and the food is always predictably good.

Yelp
I came here recently with a few friends in the evening. I had already eaten, so I just grabbed a coffee. My friends both had sandwiches, which looked straight out of a Scooby Doo cartoon: very tall and generously filled. Classic diner. I'd come back.

Yelp
My wife and I love coming here, especially for breakfast. The staff is nice and always looking to fill up your coffee mug (and their brew is solid!) tables and silverware always clean, nice music but never too loud, I always recommend this place.

Yelp
The restaurant had this cool retro vibe so we gave it a try for breakfast. Ordered an omelet and my wife ordered a waffle and eggs. The omelet was burnt and looked disgusting so I kindly asked that they just redo it as a scramble. The scramble was even worse tasting so I just kept my toasted bagel and took a bite of my wife's waffle. I literally spit it out onto my napkin. In short, the cook needs to be replaced immediately. The food needs to be good first and foremost and it was obvious that the cook did not care about quality and taste.

Yelp
Me and my family had breakfast at Metro Diner on Broadway this morning. The restaurant was quaint and clean. Our server was friendly and efficient. We were a party of 8 and our orders came out promptly. I had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs with Home fries which was good. My mom had the pancakes which she stated were equally good with crisp bacon and good coffee. Other family members also had the pancakes, the French toast and omelettes. Everyone seemed satisfied. Only thing that made this visit not rate higher was how we were rushed out by the manager once we ate for our tables. We were talking and finishing up our drinks. This would be the reason I wouldn't return. You can get descent diner food anywhere in NYC. It doesn't have to be Metro Diner.

Giles L.

Yelp
The perfect NYC diner. The food is excellent, the service is fast, and the atmosphere is excellent.

Yelp
After the renovation, the vegetarian wrap is gone. Basically, if you're vegetarian or vegan, there is nothing for you here. Maybe the side dishes. Come on!

Yelp
I came her with my bf to have a nice breakfast. We were immediately greeted and allowed to sit wherever we'd like. I'm new to NYC so I'm still feeling out places. I ordered the fried shrimp basket and potato skins. Yep for breakfast. I'm Southern. Don't judge me! The shrimp basket came with a nice healthy portion of about 8 butterflied shrimp. Super crunchy and delicious. The potato skins were very large spuds cut in half with gooey cheese and bacon with a side of sour cream. Very filling on its own. The part that wowed me though was I wanted some cocktail sauce for my shrimp. I asked the server for some but he didn't think they had any so he asked one of the owners. The owner actually went in the back and made me some fresh cocktail sauce for my shrimp-- and it was sooooo good. They seem to know that service matters which is rare these days. I wasn't even expecting it.

Yelp
Noisy with rude lady talking loudly on her phone. Had to move my seat only to have loud children and crying baby. Cheeseburger deluxe was yummy and rare like I enjoy just wish I had more lettuce and another slice of tomatoe. Large milkshake seeme like a medium. Expensive.

Yelp
This is one of the best diners I've ever been to! The menu is huge, yet they can quickly conjure up any order with aplomb and dispatch it post haste. Absolutely everyone in our group enjoyed their entrees. Sitting outside at one of their large tables, we marveled at how quiet the street was. In addition to providing excellent service with a friendly demeanor, the staff was exceptionally conscientious: About five minutes after we left, I discovered I'd left an expensive tripod behind. I ran back and they recognized me immediately. Rather than take chances, they'd already taken it inside for safekeeping, so one of them went in to retrieve and return it to me. In summary: A great experience overalll we're definitely going to visit it again soon.

Yelp
I've been to NYC many times and I've always wanted to dine in here and experience the ambiance! I must say, it has this nostalgia feeling bringing you to the old experience of the big apple. The food is great, the service was efficient, the staff were very accommodating. This must be one of the local diners the locals love. Support local! Highly recommended!

Yelp
A great place for brunch in UWS! The food is super solid, and the service is quick and efficient. The restaurant is super casual, a great place for a classic American breakfast :)

Yelp
i love this diner! quintessential new york, old school, super fast service with reliable food. i've only come here for breakfast but the vibes are exactly what you want when you come to a diner - you take your paper handwritten ticket to the front to pay. i'm becoming a regular! (pro tip: the waffles cannot be missed!)
google avatar

Yelp
This place was cute! There's plenty of seating and the service was quick. Food was pretty decent!

David B.

Yelp
I have been a customer for more than 40 years. For reasons that escape me beyond sheer laziness, you can no longer get a coffee milkshake. Is it really so difficult to accommodate the many customers who prefer this common and certainly available flavor. It. bespeaks contempt for the people who keep you in business. The staff is understanding and embarrassed about it but they don't have the power to fix it.

Yelp
Come for the classic diner experience! I visited on a Sunday in the early afternoon with a group of 3, and we had a good time. It was really busy as expected, and we ended up waiting around 10 minutes for a table. As we were in the mood for something easy and lowkey, we really enjoyed the retro, no frills ambiance here. Along with coffee (unlimited coffee refills!), I ended up getting the lumberjack while my friends ordered a burger and an Athenian omelette. Everything was just okay, but that's exactly what we were looking for at the time. My favorite out of what we ordered was the Athenian omlette, and I wished I'd ordered that for myself instead! This is a great option where you can spend time with friends or family over a casual meal.

Yelp

Yelp
Great food and speedy service. Was very busy but moved smoothly. Will def return if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday morning for brunch. This place was pretty busy, but they got us in and out in great time without making us feel rushed. Two of us got french toast with sausage, and the french toast was great. Not too expensive for a diner in Manhattan and the sausage was fat and cooked perfectly.

Yelp
Its a big corporate diner. Everything about it is good, the food, the atmosphere, the service. But you can tell the local neighborhood place across the street went out of business because a big restaurant group came in and setup the chain with a good but not great formula.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from Metro Diner. They burned the bagel and it just made everything taste bad. I called the guy and he said he toasted the break himself and he knew it wasn't burned. I didn't like that, I asked if he wanted me to send him pictures he continued to say he knows it's not burned. It has been years since I have eaten breakfast there and It used to be my go to for my bagels with eggs but never again.

Yelp
After many enjoyable years I have too complain about the food. Seems Im not alone after being surprised at the rating. Even after raising prices Metro has been able to keep the quality I had been accustomed too. The Mexican burger (probably the same for all) was as tasteless as shoe leather. Definitely they changed the blend and probably added some plant products. Go elsewhere for a burger! Gyro taste the same as an alternative (slightly salty).

Yelp
Your classic diner. Burger was tasty for the most part. Nothing spectacular but a good burger. Fries are decent. And the service for the most was good. Your standard diner food.

Sharon K.

Yelp
I'm very grateful for Metro Diner. I've been going there, and ordering from them for years. The quality of the food is reliably good, there's something for everyone on the menu, and it's one of the few good diners left on the UWS. I find it comfortable to eat there with friends as there's plenty of room and the servers don't rush you. Service is classic NY diner: they're not warm and fuzzy, but there's always someone close by to help, and they do a good, professional job. You'll get your food hot, without a long wait, your coffee and water will be refilled, and if there's a problem they'll address it. The place runs well. It's also great for delivery, and Ive always ordered from them directly, which I recommend. They're reasonably fast, even very fast if it's not during lunch or dinner rush, and in decades of ordering from them, there have been only one or two small errors. Very good burgers, yummy matzah ball soup, fresh fish, fresh vegetables, nice salads (I'm partial to the Fields of Dreams salad with grilled salmon), delicious roast chicken with stuffing, pork chops, milk shakes ... those are the kinds of foods I eat at Metro Diner, and I'm always quite pleased. Good sized portions, too. They very recently launched their own online ordering system on their website. There are a few kinks to work out -- I've had to call to find out things like options for sides on a dinner entrée, and if you check out an item, when you return to the menu, it brings you back to the top instead of to where you were (considering what a large selection they have, that gets to be a drag). It's new, and I'm sure they'll work that out. Anyway, I MUCH prefer to go directly through the restaurant. Hats off to the Metro Diner. They're an asset to the Upper West Side.

Yelp
This place was busy as "f" on a Friday afternoon. The retro look of the place, and location, must be the draw, because for the food, it was just average Counter service was lacking. Order was taken and delivered and that's where the service ended. No refill offered. Food was standard diner food
google avatar

Yelp
Great fast service. Good food. I love this neighborhood place. Recommend you go and enjoy the bustling atmosphere of nyc.

Yelp
In short, it's a regular diner with average food. I visited Metro Diner with friends after the 18-miler training run in Central Park. We were very hungry. Even though I wanted waffles, I ordered a bowl of fruit granola yogurt by mistake (the yogurt was listed under the waffles section so I assumed it was waffles topped with some yogurt, granola, and fruits. I was wrong). I was a bit bummed but the fruit was fresh. The granola tasted like crushed Nature Valley granola bar, so it was more like big cookie crumbles. My friend ordered the lumberjack pancakes and couldn't eat the whole thing, so we ended up sharing and all was good. They have a pretty big outdoor dining section and can accommodate probably around seven people in a group (we were a group of seven). Coffee was pretty good and it was bottomless.

Yelp
Metro Diner looked great at my 8:30am coffee time this morning. I figured they wouldn't charge that much for a coffee to go, and the tables outside looked comfortable. As soon as I entered the nice man at the register welcomed me with a cheerful "Good Morning ". I told him I was happy to be there and how beautiful the place looks. It's clean and super comfortable with lots of seating inside. There's partitions between booths and plenty of room to social distance. I ran around undisturbed taking photos like a crazy woman. This place has an atmosphere I love. It was very early in the day so it wasn't too busy. I did see one booth with customers being served in the back. I returned to the front and ordered my small black coffee to go. It's really good coffee. I was only charged $2. I felt comfortable sitting outside in front. It's located in a nice neighborhood with a friendly atmosphere. I'm definitely going back to order from the menu when I am ready for a meal. I like the old school diner vibe complete with coat hooks near the table for when winter comes. I'm recommending you visit.

Lars A.

Yelp
First, finding a sit down breakfast restaurant in the area is hard to find ... and no Denny's doesn't qualify. The Metro Diner has the look and feel of a classic diner. It is fairly large, clean and for the most part seating are relatively tight and a split between booths and tables. With some reservation, I can say the staff is prompt, efficient, and attentive ... but it's all professional, not much chance for a friendly chit-chat. Even being pretty busy, our order was taken and the food was served pretty quick, and I never had to ask for a coffee refill. I can say the menu is fairly large and the food we ordered was above average, but I wouldn't say it was great... which is to be expected. The bill was pretty reasonable as well.

Yelp
IVE BEEN COMING HERE MY ENTIRE LIFE. I've always loved the food and ambiance. After giving Metro Diner so many chances to improve or be as good as it used to be- it's just been awful. This place is gross now. Food is gross, staff is RUDE and UNFRIENDLY. I live in the neighborhood and will make sure to avoid this place like the plague. I will never recommend this place to anyone like I used to before. When did this place get so expensive for subpar food??? Make metro diner good again; Or shutter this disgusting place and bring something actually good into the neighborhood.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Snazzy Retro-look, and typical diner food. Fries were meh, but the bacon + eggs were wonderful, reminded me of my childhood. It's definitely better than the other diner down the block. I wouldn't go here for seafood or anything other than typical burgers, eggs and bacon, coffee, and other staple diner foods. Boss was very attentive to anything we needed.

Russell S.

Yelp
Something really good has been happening at Metro diner!! The last five times that we've eaten breakfast there over the last 2 to 3 weeks, the Toast has been fresh and hot, the eggs moist, the potatoes perfect, and there is even a new menu. The service is as fast and friendly as ever; the soups consistently delicious as ever. Put metro back on your 'go to' list!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this Diner! It's your typical New York Diner! Chill atmosphere, nice people, fast service and good food! Also, good coffee! I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Delivery.. what is up guys!?! Inedible omelet.. everything watery and mushy. You know why? THEY COOKED THE AVOCADO! Who the HELL does that?! Avocado on an omelet is amazing. Cooked avo is disgusting and ruins everything. Please stop that. Cole slaw is all onion bleh. Gotta find me a new neighborhood diner delivery standby.
google avatar

Jordy L.

Yelp
Served me moldy cake!!!!! ALL THE GREEN BITS ARE MOLD! I feel so sick. So happy I didn't take a bite. Somehow my eyes caught it before I dug in. They didn't even comp my check, and got upset with me for making a fuss. I can't believe this happen because it's the only diner in the area. How they heck did they not notice this? It must have been there for weeks. I pray the rest of the food I ate wasn't spoiled or dirty.
google avatar

Pett O.

Yelp
This is part of the amazing network of friendly dinners, that makes New York what it is. Sadly many being removed. They play a key role and often work as extensions of many people's domestic environments. This one in particular is beautiful and well run. Nice people waiting, cooking and at the counter.... Food is aligned with the best tradition of easy to like dinner food. All good and reliable here.

Sion P.

Yelp
Good diner for breakfast. Pretty solid and everything prepared very well. Great coffee too. Perfect waffles ta' boot!

B. S.

Yelp
Yes, the metro diner on the UWS, is a great restaurant/diner. The selection is well rounded, and just about everything they make is excellent. French toast is recommended. The grilled chicken club is fantastic.
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
Beyond baffled that this Fried Shrimp Basket cost $14. I'm laughing at myself that I really spent that money on these 6 sad shrimps. I actually only chose it because it was one of the most popular items on the food app I was ordering from.

Prison In The Wild D.

Yelp
On the outside it appears as an ordinary diner, but this is a slice of old New York. The food is excellent, and combined with the friendly-terrific service, exceeds expectations. I have to give a shout out to Jimmy the morning manger, who is a champion, and goes out of his way, always with a smile, to make sure each detail and customer request is met with distinction. I have personally been eating here for decades, as well as hosting several events each year for between 15-20 guests. We have a discerning group that identifies quality and we would never consider holding our events anywhere else. Bon Appetit!

Gabe R.

Yelp
While the service is good, the food is honestly just adequate. I guess I expected higher quality from a classic New York diner, but this was a letdown, especially the fries.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Really great food, quaint diner atmosphere. Can't go wrong if you're looking for a casual place for breakfast or brunch.

Yelp
I decided to come back because I was craving a specific salad is gotten here a while ago. I decided to try their matzah ball soup and OMG. I've had it 3 days back to back. It's delicious really hits the spot. Also, contrary to my experience, the last time I came, the service was rather quick. DEFINITELY coming here more often.

Yelp
Great! Location:near Central Park and riverside Food: Large amount and reasonable price

Yelp
Our go to for 20+ years! what has happened? our experience today was abominable! the food was awful! Turkey Club Sandwich which is usually delicious; burned toast, mealy tomato, burned bacon, burned toast and dry turkey! Service was horrible! no one his age should have to work at such a job. That being said, he was totally unpleasant, ornery, unhelpful, sloppy, I had to ask him twice to put his mask on properly, and did not want to take the payment inside! I told him we were not comfortable going inside. He finally took it. pecause of his age, I left him a decent tip. to add insult to injury the the bill was outrageous!

Yelp
We always go there for breakfast and lunch. I'm surprised by the low reviews so I'm writing a good one for them. My husband usually get their waffle with eggs and bacon. He loves their waffle so much that he always orders two! I tried once and I understand why even though I'm not a big fan of waffle but it's really good. Perfect crunchiness. I usually order their French toast with sausage. Today I tried their chicken quesadilla and it wow me. Good mix of the mushroom, egg, chicken and cheese. Comes with four of them so I can take some home. Last but not least, very nice people and good service there! We have a baby with us every time we go and they watch her grow up. Every time we go, they treat us like family. Today my husband left his debit card. The cashier lady ran to get him. We really appreciate it!
