Metro Hong Kong Dessert and Milk Tea

I was so blown away by the Japanese-style mango mochi that I had to leave a review right away. The mochi was unbelievably soft—literally melted in my mouth like a cloud. The mango inside was perfectly ripe and sweet, and the dessert overall wasn’t overly sweet at all, which made it absolutely perfect. We also tried the strawberry mochi, which was just as delicious. It’s coated in coconut and filled with a fresh, juicy strawberry—simple, fresh, and really well balanced. If you love light, delicate desserts that aren’t cloying, this place is a must-try.

All I can say is wow. The restaurant place is a bit small but their food is amazing. We were so full leaving. I really liked the atmosphere. The host was very accommodating. My mom loves dimsung and everything was closed but we found this place that had a little bit of everything on the menu. The milk tea was incrediblely delicious.

So fireeee were from New Orleans and I recommend fully. The orange chicken, pot stickers, bbq pork buns, and soup dumplings were epic and they play chill music. Dont pass this place up!

Came here for the Taiwanese popcorn chicken and it was incredible. Only giving it four out of five stars because it was missing the fried Thai basil that typically comes with it and also needed the chili powder. Otherwise it was a really delicious snack.

Came here with my bf and the customer service is phenomenal! The manager was always smiling as me and my bf are wonton soup and the chicken and rice. The food is above decent and whole not perfect, I tasted the homely feel to the meal. The chicken was tender and not stringy while alot not overcooked to death! It's a small place but the owners made up for it while the best decor they could find. At worst, it's a hole in the wall food shop. At best, it is a homely restaurant comparable to a Japanese place that is both welcoming and a pleasure to eat at when the outside world is chaotic... Try it once before judging.

Their popcorn chicken rice meal was top notch! Good place for snack or brunch! Old & young people alike will love this place with their boba milk tea fusions and traditional Chinese food meals. There’s also a TV for a quick entertainment.

Small restaurant in Chinatown that serves food and Boba drinks. We were glad to see it was open later on a Sunday evening, as most stores in the area were closed. Drink took a few minutes, but was fresh, cold, and good. They also have popping boba. I would recommend giving them a try.

Tiny casual eatery in Chinatown, SF. The service was ok. The food was inexpensive but good. It’s more for drinks and desserts than food. There’s not much atmosphere to speak of. Basically people come here to eat and go. It’s more of a practical place. We ordered: 4*Stir-fried Garlic Green Beans 䔉蓉四季豆: excellent! The green beans were cooked crunchy. It was not salty but flavorful. It’s pretty greasy to get that texture. 4*Secret Shredded Chicken 秘制手撕雞: it’s a cold dish. Chicken with bones, mixed with cilantro, spring onions and crunchy peanut. Good texture and flavor. 1*Soup cabbage上湯白菜: it wasn’t a soup at all. It seemed to me all the wrong ingredients were mixed together. Cabbage, pork, ginger and preserved eggs. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to cook preserved eggs in a soup. Anyway it was a plain flavor. I wouldn’t order it again. 4*Red bean double milk pudding 紅豆双皮奶: the portion was big and not too sweet. I liked it. They are known to have the best milk puddings. There are three varieties. You may choose mango, durian or red bean toppings.

I have enjoyed trying different Chinatown restaurants. This one had fun drinks. I got mango with coconut sago. The TV was playing Chinese music show. I ordered beef jook, shrimp fried rice, and chicken wings. It was a fun restaurant. Many of them. I could eat leftovers later. Interesting. Probably 50 restaurants of the likes.

Went in craving something sweet as they advertised Hong Kong style desserts, which always peaks my interests. We were the only customers which I had no issues with. We ordered 2 items: a Mango Pomelo Sago drink for $6 which came with whipped cream and slices of mango. Really good, refreshing, and not sweet at all. Then we shared the roast bbq pork rice noodle with egg for about $8 and that was pretty filling. Rice noodle was light, fluffy, packed with good chunks of bbq pork. Service was accommodating!

Came in for a little dessert for my wife and I, and I am a total sucker for scallion pancakes. So we ordered a little snack for each of us. A cozy local place and the food was great, why3 stars? It took 30 friggen minutes for it to come and there was almost nobody in the restaurant.

Metro Hong Kong Dessert is a bit of a hole in the wall place that has a massive menu spanning dim sum, desserts, drinks, set meals, and more. I came here for lunch on a Sunday with a group of 3. We were seated quite promptly though the place was very packed. There were many people who were ordering takeout or drinks to go at the time. As a result, it was a bit difficult to get the workers' attention but they were very friendly when they were assisting us. The inside has interesting decor which some may find either messy or charming. Their menu is very extensive with tons of different food and drink items. It feels like they almost have a little bit of everything. Everyone at my table opted for their hainanese chicken lunch special which comes with a hot milk tea or coffee. At under $10, it turned out to be quite the bargain. The plate comes with vegetables, chicken rice, chicken, peanuts, and a ginger sauce. The waitress was very nice in refilling our tea since there was a delay on the milk tea at the time. When the milk tea did come though, it was very good as it was most definitely hot and freshly made.

When I have a sweet tooth craving, I love boba teas! I stopped by the HK dessert & teas yesterday and ordered their honey lemonade. It was iced and came with many slices of lemon, a tad bit sweet with the honey. It was a perfect treat to sip on in the afternoon after the lunch slump when you need a little "pick me up". They also serve tons of hong kong style rice plates, noodles, etc. Would not mind coming back for lunch one day.

This is based on a doordash delivery review. I love the mango desserts - the steamed milk with mango topping was the best. The sago pearls and tofu dessert with mango was okay but 1/2 of the dessert spilled. Will try to go in person next time.

Great service and the desserts here brought me back to feeling like I am in Hong Kong. They have a variety of food options, desserts, and drinks. They take orders in person and they make it fresh right away so you may be able to adjust your ice level, sugar level for the drinks and as well as for the desserts, if there's certain fruit or items you do not want in the desserts, you may address it with them also. I think this place is conveniently located in the heart of Chinatown but parking can be a bit hectic. The place is pretty clean and spacious with tables to be seated. Pricing is amazing so don't miss out if you like Hong Kong style food/desserts!

The mango pomelo sago... that's all I have to say. I don't know what it is but it's like injecting dopamine into me. I'm not sure if it's nostalgia or if it's just really good in my opinion. The mango is fresh and everything in that dessert is so perfect... Literally there is no need to get anything else. But their popcorn chicken is also really tasty and crispy. Something to know about this place it's definitely a mom and pop shop (I see the mom and the pop (my assumption) working every time I go in!!). Usually it's just them so please be patient. They're also one of the only places that's open later in Chinatown that are like this. It's not a fancy place and I usually see locals getting a casual bite. It feels like an immigrant household that opened up their home to feed people in a restaurant environment, at least that's how I feel. Also maybe it's because I usually see people eating in front of the tv watching Chinese reality shows. It's nice! This place is great! I can't vouch for the other food but the mango pomelo sago. so. good.

We came here on a weekend day as we were walking through Chinatown and we decided to order a Dragonfruit lemonade with boba. The lemonade was fresh with real pieces of dragon fruit and it was less sweet as we asked. However, the boba was chewy but almost too chewy and not worth it in my opinion since it was just a little off with it being so chewy. But the service was good and the place also sells many types of Chinese food, including dim sum. I would want to come back and try the food here as well.

Everything was horrible here. I normally neglect the reviews for Chinese restaurants because people usually dock off stars for service and ambiance but the food was downright terrible. We ordered the sesame soup. They not only came out with the wrong order but when they finally exchanged it, it was so disgusting that we only had one scoop and left the rest on the table. The taste was so beyond off - it literally does not taste like sesame at all. Honestly, I wonder if the owner/servers would eat this themselves.

When we came in it's a one man shop so everything was REALLY slow. This is not the reason for the 1 star. He doesn't know what's in the bao and dumplings, claimed the 'steamed vegetable bun' is vegetarian/vegan but I took a bite and there was something that looks suspiciously like meat. Luckily I didn't swallow. I asked him what it was and he said 'I don't know the ingredients'. The 'vegetable dumpling' also has meat he claims.

Arrived at 8pm on a Saturday. We didn't realize they close at 8:30 yet they welcomed us in. Small, unassuming cafe with a good variety of Asian desserts. Kinda messy in the dining area- almost like it doubles up as storage. Might have been COVID since everything was shut down for months. Our group tried a number of things: mango sago; durian sago, taro balls... I had this drink with all kinds of pudding with some boba. Fantastic! It's a bit on the sweet side so we asked for ice, added it into our drink, and it was perfect! I'd definitely come back for that. In the menu- it's called MILK TEA PUDDING. I wanted to add - the folks there are friendly and though they were closing, they let us finish our desserts and we didn't feel rushed at all.

I came here with some friends after work on a Friday night. It seemed like it was a small, cute pop shop (it was just a one man show). We ordered a bunch of things and shared it family style, my favorites were: the hainan chicken, this tomato pork dish (I forget what the name was actually called), the beef rice noodles and some of their sago dishes (coconut sago/mango pomelo sago). Those were the highlights of the meal! The hainan chicken was flavorful and the peanuts and broccoli added in some nice crunch to the meal. The tomato pork dish smelled delicious, I was ready to eat it as soon as it arrived. It had some melted cheese on top which added a nice creaminess to the overall dish. I didn't get a chance to eat everything else because I was so full but we finished all of our food, if that says anything! I was happy with everything that we got, especially for the price and the vibes. My biggest complaint about the place is that they serve on plastic forks and paper plates but there was only one man running the whole place and there was a little kid watching tv by the register. I don't blame him for wanting to make his life easier but wish that it was more sustainable!

This place has yummy mango and matcha pudding . I will be back to get other dessert offerings . Next time I am in Chinatown I will get some pudding at this place.

Forced us to tip and wouldn't give food, horrible service. Took them an hour to give us the food when the food was already ready. Food was cold and gave me food poisoning the next day. DO NOT COME HERE!!!

Love the food especially the dessert. We had the Japanese style mango mochi durian, which was the favorite for all three of us. We also had a red bean double skin milk, fish porridge, Chinese donut, pork belly and chicken, and spring beans. We also fit tea. The service is pretty good, though the guy was trying a little hard to sell us extra stuff lol. But we didn't come for stellar service, we came for excellent food. The place is filled with pictures of food on the walls so I guess the atmosphere for indulgence. And it was playing covers of Christmas songs complete with the occasional YouTube ad

We came here after our dinner nearby and there was no one and so was perfect for our group of 9! At first we were unsure because of the low rating but to be honest I think other than the service this place deserves a little better than three stars haha We ordered the coconut milk red bean taro Balls and egg waffle with ice cream. The ice cream was strawberry and actually pretty strawberry tasting! So it's good! The egg waffle was also good. The only odd part is the the bottom of the cup was filled with cream and watermelon chunks? Anyway the coconut milk taro balls was good too. The taro ball was not chewy enough for my preference but the dessert was tasty. It is good both hot and cold. I got it hot in store and took home the leftover and had the rest cold. The taro ball does not keep well so finish them before you put it in the fridge. The portions are big. Overall, this is not a bad dessert place, would come back if we were in the area for dessert again haha

Price was right and it is an oasis to sit and relax as long as you want. We didn't have it but two parties came and got fried wings. It smelled tempting. There's a secret, you get hainan chicken dish or beef brisket noodles and you get complimentary hong kong milk tea, which was really good. It kept me up with caffeine all night! It was smooth. All containers are to go when you eat in or take out. No MSG after effects which is a plus. Broth was good. Portion just right. The desserts look amazing so i have to go back and eat taro with tapioca and mango drink or pudding. I saw the many fresh mangos in their refrig. They have mochi balls in refrig. Good thing i didn't see them. Nicest family runs it.

I asked to use the restroom, they said I needed to spend $10 to use the restroom. Ordered 2 drinks. Bastards!!

Ended up at Metro for lunch on a Monday because all the other restaurants in the area were closed, so this review is not about their desserts (which is what they specialize in) but on their beef brisket noodles. It was a cold day, so the hot soup from the noodles was a great hand and tummy warmer. I was asked what kind of noodles I wanted, white or yellow; I figured the white would be rice noodle, so I chose white. Anyway, the noodles were like spaghetti. The beef brisket (tendon) was tasty but a bit sparse. There were a couple of pieces of Chinese broccoli included. I wish there was more meat and veggies in the dish, but, alas, there wasn't. The broth was flavorful and, as I said, nice and hot. The noodles were served in a plastic bowl and the utensils were disposable chopsticks (great) and a plastic spoon for the soup (not so great). I'm a bit leery of getting hot items in plastic, but that's just my personal fear of plastic/chemicals leaching into my food! The service was good; both the cook and the waitperson were friendly and welcomed our patronage. Tea was brought out before the food and was complimentary.

Metro Hong Kong Dessert is a pretty good local hole in the wall sort of place. Nothing super special/memorable but everything fairly standard and good. Service is not bad. The dim sum was ok/average. The fried rice was good. I think the dessert is better than the savory food. The mango pudding was really good and so was the tang yuan in ginger tea. My friend got the taro balls dessert with boba but there were barely any taro balls compared to the pictures on Yelp but it was very good. The place had seating but was pretty squished. It doesn't have any particularly nice ambiance but there was a wall that was instagramable. They were serving half the food out of take our containers and gave us paper plates. I think if you are in the area and looking for a quick local joint then this would be a good spot.

I was skeptical but I loved it ! Don't judge by how it looks. Yes it's a bit messy, but it feels like someone's home to me. 1) TV on for shows 2) comfy sofa. Be considerate that it's a mom's and pops type of restaurant. The food is legit and excellent! Better/or comparative than bigger fancier restaurants (I am Chinese, so I know). I ordered 手撕鸡 (chicken), beef brisket noodles (soup is thick, and brisket is soft), and pork feet. Then i ordered dessert (mango sago). Boy it was better than the milk tea stores like quickly, Yumi etc. The juice/sago was thick, flavorful, and had real fresh mango vs the milk tea stores are mostly ice and mango flavor powder. Definitely going back again! The people who have low review must be smoking something, or simply judged by the cover of the book (not so pretty decor)

I was craving dessert, and this was one of the only places open in Chinatown at 9pm on a Monday night. Bless! A nice Asian mom and pop kinda shop, the prices are very cheap for the portions they give! I got a durian crepe cake and big bowl of taro balls, grass jelly, boba, and taro for about $14 total. Both were delicious! I'd come back to try their food sometime too.

Looks like it's run by husband and wife team who work hard but the dessert we ordered was lacking . Place did not feel clean either . The lady actually asked me for a tip before I even paid !! She said since it was dine in, a tip was necessary . Seriously ? Who doesn't tip to begin with !!!!

Their food are not that great, but the dessert was not bad. We ordered durian sago and durian pudding. The Japanese eel rice tasted so bad and the beef chow fun was horrible. This is our first and last time eating there.

We passed by this place and decided to order boba. I got boba milk tea and my boyfriend got lychee tea. The boba was disgusting and the milk tea was very water down. My boyfriend however enjoyed his drink.

I ordered via Bento cart and got: * grass jelly and mango (a bit more herbal than I expected) and mango was a bit tart. I think I had the Meet Fresh grass jelly in mind and this didn't match my expectations coming which isn't their fault * grass jelly in almond paste / milk. The almond paste has a really nutty, rich flavor that's very nice. I enjoyed this and would get it again. It's nice warm.

Among the best Hong Kong Milk Tea I've had in the states --- at a pretty good price. Also, a pretty comfy environment.

Almost 3 years after my original review, this is still my favorite Hong Kong dessert place in San Francisco. Whenever I am in Chinatown I'd swing by to get the mango sago pomelo dessert drink. They source the right type of mango (sweet and soft), are generous with their mango and have the right mango to coconut milk ratio. I've also tried their set meals a few times, both dine-in pre-Covid, as well as delivery via UberEats and DoorDash during the pandemic. The set meals are very good value for money as the portions are generous and you get the drink and dessert at a discount. I've also tried a few other desserts on the menu and they're all pretty solid and authentic.

The future of milk tea has never come this close; not at the same par with Hikari, the bullet train sushi bar. Metro Milk Tea is just like other cafés that have bubble teas, desserts, and afternoon snacks Hong Kongers used to enjoy. What I see in a long cup is a sticker showing a cartoonish bullet train, nothing special. Still, the way Metro Milk Tea opened its doors tells us Hong Kong has finally has its bullet train. For my first visit, I ordered Rose Tea with sago. Looks misty through a long cup of tea. And its sweet over the bitterness of the tea. Having a cup of fruit tea is better than milk tea. I should've told the wait staff to exclude chunks of ice since they block my way of slurping sago pearls. I might come back to enjoy their best desserts. Swallow's nest is a must-try if you're adventurous. If there are any suggestions to make Metro Milk Tea a better place to visit, please feel free. I already suggest having basil/chia seeds as one of the toppings for the fruit or milk tea.

Cute little place. The sago desserts were much too liquid for my liking but I got my fix. There were also a few fruit flies...and the shop just seems very disorganized with stuff everywhere.. I get that many Asian places are like that but.. it's not for me I guess.

this is honestly the best kumquat boba tea I have ever had. I also had the bbq pork ramen, also yummy.

they have the 拉腸粉 hand pull rice noodle here!!! super yummy, also recommend their snow mochi. I think the milk tea is not too good here, would go else for Milk Tea, but otherwise, if you want traditional Hong Kong food, this place is legit! also price is super cheap!!! this is for sure a hidden gem in Chinatown!

I've previously gotten their food delivered through Uber Eats but since I've moved on past that app from the (way too many) poor experiences with the service, I have been ordering their food through Doordash every other week and the portions are always generous, regardless of what app I use! I highly recommend the Hong Kong style milk tea with their shrimp and pork wonton soup :) best comfort food and quick meal. The popcorn chicken is flavorful and a great snack. Everything is always packed nicely each time, so I am able to enjoy my food without the hassle of cleaning up more than I need to before and after eating. I hope to stop by sometime to pick-up for takeout if I'm in the area.

Very underrated place. I discovered them for their mochi deserts, which are hard to find in SF and really good. Now that I discovered they actually also sell restaurant dishes, I love them for their fried noodles (which are basically fried instant ramen noodles w/ vegetables and some special seasoning, but somehow they are so addictive). Oily and delicious. And terrible for you but worth it. *i'm asian

Excellent taro bubble waffle since it is crispy and comes with pieces of taro inside, however it is pricy at 5.95. I got the mango pomelo sago with coconut which was refreshing for $7.

I got sucked in to this place do to the name....I'd try anything with the words Hong Kong in it.....but I gotta say I don't think this place really has anything to do with HK... As they had a pretty big selection of things...but almost most of the items wasn't Hong Kong style.....the one thing that was pretty good was the wings.....other then that it was pretty random.....and the lemon tea was ridiculously Not yummy....which that really is a main thing in HK.....I mean if you can't get that right....ummm..

First things first, there was a breakfast menu in the window that we asked about and they said they served breakfast, so we tried to order off it and nothing, not even bacon or eggs, were available. Good going. I ordered a ham and egg sandwich while my friend ordered a club sandwich and milk tea. The milk tea was lackluster and the sandwiches were literally all bread and no filling. I'm guessing the reason you come here is for dessert, but then they really shouldn't open their doors in the morning or early afternoon at all. The interior is really cute and I really want to like it, but I think I'll just have to come back for the Hong Kong desserts. Don't come here for a meal and don't come here for snack foods. It's not worth it unless you just want a place to chill with friends in a cute cafe. This place surprisingly has a long way to go despite apparently being open for a while. I'd like to see them succeed, but they have a lot of work to do, first. Still, they really try and I'm willing to come back to try the desserts. I'll update then!

My friend ordered mango pomelo and I ordered durian tglutinous rice to dine in. These were fine. We also ordered some preprepared durian pancakes to go. Unfortunately, the pancakes went bad. :/ And there was no best before date on the package at all. We really wanted some Hong Kong dessert so we went to this restaurant regardless of the low ratings. I guess in the future I should give yelp ratings more weight in my decision-making process.

I have been coming here once or twice a week for a couple months now. I tend to order the same thing every time, popcorn chicken and onion rings if they have it. The people are very nice and great service. It will take a long time for you to receive the food. Took a little over 30 minutes today for two popcorn chicken and one onion rings. The food is delicious but order dine in and then ask for a to go box. I have noticed that when you order to go, the portions are half the size of the dine-in. The people after me ordered one serving of popcorn chicken to dine in and their one serving was as big as my two.

Honestly, I don't think this place is as bad as what it's currently rated (3 stars). My friend and I came inside looking for some dessert and we ordered a coconut juice sago and mango soup sago. I thought the plating was cute - it came in these yellow bowls and yellow spoons. I like the coconut sago - it was a tad sweeter than what I normally like, but it was still refreshing. The mango sago comes with real mangos and was just as good as the coconut one. This restaurant closes at 10 pm everyday. They take credit card. The complimentary tea that they gave us was also pretty good.
