19 Best Museums in Mexico City for Thousands of Years of Anthropology and History | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Mexico City metro has been operating since 1969, with miles of underground tunnels and passageways that are home to the largest public art gallery in the world. As the metro has expanded and evolved over the course of fifty years, it now includes 195 stations on 12 distinct lines. The art collection has grown, too, featuring over 300 artists from 50 different nationalities. Certain stations have notable works, like the Garibaldi/Lagunilla Station, which is a tribute to Mexican boxing. The station has been transformed into a miniature boxing-themed museum, celebrating the sport’s rich history and its iconic figures." - Scarlett Lindeman, Susannah Rigg

Interesting displays on planning, construction and further development of CDMX’s unique metro system. Free admission. Spanish language explanations only. Gift shop is closed for foreseeable future, according to a security guard. Located in underground Line 12 station at Mixcoac; ignore street address given by search engines.

A tiny but interesting museum, with lots of original drawings, tickets, and artefacts of the construction of the metro. Unfortunately, the shop is closed

Free with your metro entrance, despite being small it has an itinerary exhibit, archaeological pieces, a huge collection of tickets, historic memorabilia, an extensive explanation of the design involved, and a cool store (cash only).

Great free museum in Mixcoac, you even get to enter through metro turnstiles, it really only focuses on the history of the first three lines, but does give you an idea of how much the metro system has shaped chilango identity through out the last 70 years.

If you want to know about how the subway in Mexico city has changed through the years since it was running for the first time you may get something about it here.
