Where to Stay in Christchurch When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I found this utilitarian, budget‑friendly motel to be one of the cheapest options in the area; apartment‑style rooms are modern and well‑maintained with comfy beds, kitchenettes and flat‑screen TVs, and there’s a barbecue area, free parking, and an owner who’s super friendly and focused on hospitality." - Matthew Kepnes

Not happy with this place at all! They charged a $100 deposit, which was a surprise . The first room they gave me was at the very end of an upstairs hallway, next to the stairwell. There were no working lights in that part of the hallway, and on either side of the door, were huge empty spaces that were pitch black. Scary for a solo woman traveling. I didn’t even go in. I asked for another room, which they switched with no hassle. This room had light switches that didn’t work, I found the bedside lamps and discovered that this room was hugely in need of updating. This was not one of the remodeled rooms on the website. Paint was peeling, holes in doors, missing lightbulbs. Bathroom was clean, but very shabby, holes and peeling paint. When I first entered the bathroom , there was Vaseline smeared on the doorknob, and more on the exit door and the tv remote… Gross! Towel rack had been ripped of and replaced without fixing the wall damage. I would not recommend this place at all.

Decent little motel/hotel. The rooms were clean with good beds and bathrooms. Good price. They only take a cash deposit so that made me a little uneasy but everything turned out fine. Id stay there again. Its a good location.

The bed in this room was King sized with memory foam on the mattress and the most comfortable sheets I've found anywhere! The rest of the room was perfectly serviceable. Only complaint was getting our cash deposit back in the morning took like 20 minutes while the front desk agent inspected the room and we waited uselessly in the lobby.

We've stayed in this hotel 2 years now, we usually stay during the FanX convention. First year wasn't awful, the room was decently clean, but this year. We settled in, there are hard laminate wood floors in the room we were in, but me and my husband woke up the next morning...bed bugs. And a $100 deposit???? It might be a good price for a room, but at the cost of terrible service, uncommunicated fees, and bed bugs. Do not book your next hotel here.

Don't recommend the metropolitan inn on West Temple. They require a cash only deposit which hotels.com doesn't tell you unless you go into the fine print for the hotel policy. ( It does say deposit required, does not mention cash) It's was a non refundable room so what if I didn't have the cash for the deposit. I also believe someone was in my room after I checked in and left for the event I was attending. This is weird but, (good thing I didn't leave my actual suitcase in the room. Just snacks and my pillow. When I returned the items I left seemed to have been moved and I couldn't find the pillow I brought. Figured I left it in the car. Didn't find it in the car this morning. It just disappeared. All around not a good experience.

Let me just start by saying $44 is a straight up lie. I played more than $200 for my room. Yes $100 was for t he deposit, but you almost never get it back. The staff here are pretty lame. They like to make up reasons to keep the deposit. This time they said it was cause.I got some scratches on their toilet seat but they were already there.I know this, because I cleaned the toilet seat before ever using it. Not only did they keep the 100 they told me if I didn't give them another $25 they would call the cops. Also if you're from out of town don't even think about trying to have people come over to see you more than two hundred dollars for a room and you're not allowed to have any visitors.

Do not stay at this hotel. The rooms are disgustingly dirty. The elevator doors don't close and it is not safe. They require a $100 cash deposit. They check your room before you can check out. They charged me $30 for a towel they said could not be cleaned. I used the towel to clean up the bathroom floor, which looked like it had not been cleaned in quite awhile. The outlets in the room are old and dangerous. Book at your own risk.

We booked a room with a King bed, for the sole purpose of taking advantage since we have a Queen bed at home. When we checked in, they did not inform us that they had changed our reservation to a double Queen bed. I went in to tell the front desk that it was not what we had reserved and all the guy said was "we ran out of King rooms, so we changed it to a double Queen. You can just sleep on one bed, you don't have to use the other one." Well, that wasn't the point and had I known that at the start, I would have requested a refund. |Also, make sure you keep your receipt for your deposit back (which is ONLY cash, by the way). The gal that checked us in DID NOT tell us to keep it, but luckily, we did! Otherwise, they wouldn't have given us our $100 back. Super sketchy if you ask me. |Poor communication all around. Would NOT recommend or stay here EVER again!!!
