Bars and Nightlife in Berlin

"This welcoming family-run pub used to be a popular meeting point in the German Democratic Republic years. It still has something of a timewarp feel, with old photos of the neighborhood and previous guests (including former stars) on the walls, classic wooden tables, and a very reasonably priced menu of draft beers, wines, and classic German snacks and food." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Great rustic restaurant which has been running since the early 1900s. You can definitely feel the charm of the years it’s been through. Very unique character. Schnitzel was great as well

Prenzlauer Berg institution. Best schnitzel I’ve ever eaten. Wonderful ambiance and traditional decor.

Time slows down here! Traditional berliner beer house. Great quality and casual friendly atmosphere.

If you are looking for a traditional Berlin bar and food with lots of heritage you can do no better than going to Metzer Eck. The business has been in the same family for about 100 years. Excellent outdoor area for some good evening summer sun.. essential booking as it is always booked out. Go inside the bar and see the heritage of it as it has not been updated with many original features like the coal fire (not working as now as part of the bar). The Schnitzel has to be one of the best value and taste ratio I have tried in Berlin. , go for it with herb butter as super delish. I do feel other items on the menu are a little expensive for what you get but still very tasty.

Good environment, kind staff, high quality food and beer. Little family-run restaurant/pub for 120 years as shown on the wall.

Tiny place but the best German food I had on our 2 week trip. The schnitzel breading was crispy and stuck to the meat. Very tasty. Very authentic.

Atmosphere seemed cool. It was just me so I went ahead and asked if I could do a no reservation (seems like you need a reservation here since they turned away parties). They sat me at a table by myself and I was able to order a drink but that’s it. They didnt ask me for food and I was waiting the whole time while drinking my beer. I just left 5 euro on the table and left. The bartender and server were outside vaping. Would not recommend unless you do a reservation or if the service is nice on a certain day.

Yelp
My wife and I love this place. If we lived nearby we would go here every day. We were in Berlin for 4 days and we came here every single night. It's everything we wanted and more. When we travel, we try to find indigenous places that give us the real feel of the culture, history, and local fare. This was all of the above. And more. It is a crime that this place is called a dive bar. It's the oldest bar in what used to be East Berlin, for crying out loud! It's over 100 years old! It's so amazing! It's this little corner bar with outdoor and indoor seating. The inside is all warm and cozy and welcoming with all these little rooms in the back with cute and intimate seating with the wooden shutters that look out into the street and candles on the tables. The menu is just straight up local bar food. It is unapologetically straightforward. This isn't some fancy hipster gastropub that's trying to break new ground and bend the limits of what a bar can blah blah mumble frumpkin doop dump scuttlebutt. No. None of that. Get that out of here. This is a wonderful little piece of history and adorableness that is untainted by modernity and should stay that way. Enough of that though. The food is just ok and it's not trying to be anything more. It's crazy cheap all around and the drinks are gigantic. Titanic even. You get the same amount of beer for $3 here that you would have to pay $10 for in the US. It's amazing. So, so amazing. We love it. We love you Metzer Eck. Also the service was great and friendly. Go here!

Yelp
Lovely old kneipe with decent beer and good atmosphere. The women working were cute and attentive. They served food and if a smoker - there's an own section for inside smoking. The pub is old and has lots of charm. Go here for that atmosphere :)

Yelp
This place is a little divey, more like a pub that serves food rather than a restaurant. So, walking in (knowing that I don't speak German), I was curious how easy/difficult ordering dinner would be. Fortunately for me, one of the servers spoke English fairly well and they have an English version of the menu. I ordered a merlot, a side salad without tomatoes, and a "Knacker mit Kartoffelsalat" (pork sausage with potato salad). The wine was good, the sausage & potato salad dinner was brought quickly and was good... but the server forgot my salad. I couldn't point out that issue because the server left the room for a while... I even saw her & the other server taking a shot with another customer in a different room. She didn't come back into the room until I was just about to finish my dinner, at which point (instead of repeating my request for a salad) I was about to tell her to remove the charge for salad from my bill before she brings it. But as soon as I said "excuse me," and she turned around to look at me, she said, "Oh, I forgot your salad!" and took off. About 10 minutes later when I was done with my dinner and nursing my wine, she finally showed up with my salad. It was covered with red cherry tomatoes, and even garnished with a green tomato, despite my previous request to omit tomatoes. I didn't say anything to her, I just picked them off and ate. The issues with service are why this establishment got 4 stars instead of 5.

Yelp
Simply the best. Authentic. Good prices. Delicious. Homey. A local icon. The schnitzel with potatoes is great. Outdoor seating stupendous in the right weather though it can get full in summer. Quiet location. No nonsense staff. Most speak English but you will get a little more respect if you speak German.

Yelp
We love this place. Simple straightforward and delicious traditional food. Limited and focused menu. We live in Berlin part-time and count this as one of our favorites. We stop in routinely on Thursday or Friday nights for a schnitzel and a beer. It's always just right- a freshly made and satisfying dinner. In fact, we like it so much that we take all our friends here when they visit us in Berlin, and every one of them has been delighted with the ambience, food and service. The waitstaff are friendly, fun and efficient. We are always happy to see them when we return to Berlin. In fact, we are ready to go back. Highly recommended. (They are open quite late, but go early while the kitchen is still serving food).

Yelp
A lovely old fashioned (Eastern European) looking place (it has been a pub for a while, back through the DDR days). I enjoyed a rather nice 'haus' Schwarzbier in what is quite a cosy interior. Based on the name you would assume that there must be some meat somewhere. Then again this is Germany, so you can assume there must be some meat everywhere!

Yelp
Sweet throwback pub (est. 1913) with tasty home-cooked German cuisine and cold beers. The dark wood banquet seats and candlelit high top tables create a cozy atmosphere chirping with lots of regulars. This is a place that has seen the advent of the automobile and electricity, WWI, WWII, the rise -- and fall -- of the Wall all the while slinging schnitzel like a boss. You must go for the sheer history seeping from the walls, plus there's a billiard table in a back room.

Yelp
You can't get more atmosphere than this and the food is amazing. It is very small, loaded with charm -it's been around since 1913! We were lucky enough to just walk in early on a Saturday and got a table. They turned away at least 4 groups of people while we were there, so I would suggest making a reservation (if you don't speak German, ask your hotel to do it for you). The food was great. Schnitzel is their specialty, and everyone seemed to be ordering it. Very tasty. I had apple pie for desert which was amazing. More than expected. I had a Warsteiner beer which I can recommend. The waitresses definitely enjoyed their jobs and were having a laugh most of the time. I will definitely come here again.

Yelp
Love this place! Delicious home style food at reasonable prices, beer on tap and friendly staff. Very chilled atmosphere and very local in feeling. It's in my neighbourhood and will definitely making this a local spot to visit regularly!!

Yelp
Very friendly service in a traditionally themed atmosphere. Excellent sauasage and potato salad, a number of beers on offer, good value for money and generally a cosy haven on a freezing February night.

Qype User (rbroze…)

Yelp
While the food is ok here, the service is uneven. It's not unusual for the entire place to be reserved for the evening, making a trip here a waste of time. Also, the owner seems to have a large chip on her shoulder. A simple customer greeting is met with a bored, interrupted glare. Not exactly friendly. Could be a better kneipe without the 'tude.

Yelp
OK food, comfortable room. Good value. But,poor service and unfriendly. I can get a good, traditional meal in lots of places in Berlin where people at least smile.
