Heaven on earth. The serenity of the Southern Tuscan landscape is literally biblical. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay atop the city walls listening to church bells. If you don't book this place while visiting Montepulciano, you are missing out really on the complete experience. We were lucky enough to also book a wine tasting at the De' Ricci tasting cellar. This allowed for us to learn a more thorough history of Montepulciano which includes the very historic Il Riccio. The rooms are updated and were some of the most modern we stayed in and all of our nine days in Central Italy. If you are smart, at some point you get on the little red golf cart tour that circles the city and also for €10, gets you to the top of the hill that you will have to climb several times during your stay. We didn't mind as we appreciated the extra exercise. We would recommend doing a visit to the Icario winery and tasting room which is about a 30 minute walk from the top of town. Some people looked at us a little crazy, while others cheered our bravado. We can't emphasize enough how great of a property this is, we had people poking their heads into the lobby if you would even call it a lobby while we were walking out wondering what beautiful place this was as I had mentioned Oh my God it's amazing We are actually staying here. The small breakfast they offer is great, and we had a cappuccino and enjoyed the quietness of the early morning. The highlight though really is opening your window on the top of town to the Tuscan Hill side and country below. Listening to the church bells and serenity here is something we will not too soon forget. Without hesitation, this is easily a four to five star place.
