"Scones and Art This historic pastry shop is full of art, like the ceramic panel with polychrome tiles by Querubim Lapa, a mural painting by João Câmara Leme, and other works by Mário Costa. When it was founded in 1946, Mexicana was a confectionary and dairy, serving as a meeting spot for various artists connected to Surrealism and Neorealism. Besides being a cafe (at teatime, ask for scones, and pancakes with jam), it is also a snack bar and a restaurant with a banquet hall."

Drop by to see the space with its 1960’s dining area with ceramic tiles and giant bird cage.

This restaurant is not good. I had a hamburger with cream and mushrooms—why is that even a thing? My friend got chicken salad and it was just onions. So many onions. The red wine tasted old. Like, just bad. Everything was just bad.

We come to this pastry shop for breakfast now and then. Their variety is a symphony of flavors. Their quality is above average. Talking about their torrada, I believe it is the best... Generous amount of butter... Well, today it didn't quite hit the mark...But hey, 1 time out of 10, we can forgive😄🥐🧈

Waitres gave us brunch menu (5 person, 1 menulist in english). After while we were ready to order. Lady game (the one Who did not speak english) and everything we wanted to eat, not available. After few unsuccesful order and quite rude behaviour by wairtres, we decided to live without eating. Can"t recommend to anyone.

A lot of pastries, many tables. The main attractive thing is huge awesome panel on the wall of great Portuguese architect Jorge Ribeiro Ferreira Chaves (1961). I’m happy they keep it in good condition.

The food was not bad and the waiters were not rude by the time until we got our food was way too long, also they forgot parts of our order, this wasn’t the first time it happened, from this point I can only blame myself for coming here, I didn’t go inside but I hear it’s worth a visit.

The place in itself is already worth the visit. It's on the end of a one block street that sits between two squares, that make a pleasant short walk. On its inside there's a full wall covered with custom, artistic tiles -- make sure you go inside to see them, even if you seat on the big balcony. I had s very good grilled bifana (pork steak sandwich) for a fair price.
