Mexico 1900 Restaurant

This is a nice restaurant to visit. The food was good. We were seated immediately despite the restaurant being busy on a Friday night. The complimentary chips and salsa were very good. The chips were nice and warm. Our meals too longer than usual to come out. So plan accordingly if you’re on a time limit. The only down side to our whole experience was the parking! This restaurant is in a small corner shopping center with other busy businesses in the same lot. I had to ask someone leaving the restaurant if I could have their parking space. My husband circled around until we could pull in to park. Other than the parking issue, It’s a nice place to have good Mexican food. I recommend it.

Very friendly, cozy spot. I had the pleasure of trying this place with my family and it did not disappoint. Prices are decent and affordable, and the service is truly top tier. They bring out free chips and salsa, and the portions for the meals are huge, so you definitely get your money’s worth. It feels like a very family-oriented restaurant, and the interior design gives it a warm, welcoming vibe. We enjoyed munching on chips and salsa while waiting for our entrées, and the staff was friendly across the board. Highly recommend for a casual family meal.

I've been to this place a few times. The atmosphere is very nice, they sometimes play Mexican music. They're very attentive and offer a variety of Mexican dishes. One thing I do have to admit is that the flavor of the food is lacking, it's a bit bland for my taste. I ordered chicken tacos one time and the chicken needed more flavor. But that's my personal opinion. The margaritas are huge and delicious. It's a bit pricey but the service and free churro chips they offer at the end of your meal is great. Parking can be hard to find sometimes since it's a small plaza.

Always like coming to this restaurant since it’s close and love their drinks. It’s never super crowded and the service is away quick. Our waiter/waitress is always friendly and they clear our tables of empty plates, which is nice. They serve hot chips and salsa which is always a plus. We ordered the chili relleno plate that comes with rice and beans. I’m not a big rice and beans person so I just ordered a side chicken sope and enjoyed it.

I got the enchilada plate. The enchiladas were just decent but the heroes of that plate were the beans and rice. One of, if not the best beans I've had at a restaurant. The hard shell taco was really good too. Good crunch and plenty of cheese! Definitely coming back and am going to try other dishes.

The last time we went here was when I was a little kid. I kind of forgot about this place and we went here for my birthday! I wanted to try out some of our local businesses ! It looks like they have renovated the whole center which is nice! I was delighted with how nice this place really was! The service is very kind and professional! The atmosphere is nice and homely. The seats are comfy! The prices are more reasonable than other Mexican places like El Cholo. The free chips and salsa was so tasty!! And the main meal was soooo good! I ate everything up! They gave us a free dessert like cinnamon chips and free candy! I think we found ourselves the new family Mexican joint to go to!! We will be back and I'm telling all my friends and family to come ! They deserve the business! And this place is so close to my house! Glad to support local businesses!

So I enjoyed the Mexican food here at this location I had the shrimp enchiladas. They were good I did enjoy them but they were my favorite but overall the restaurant was very nice Old style restaurant. So if that is something you're looking for then give this place is shot the rice and beans were very good the salsa they give you for your chips is very spicy. Waiter and waitresses were very nice didn't speak very much but good service. So definitely give this place a shot if you're in the area

The interior gives Mexican Family restaurant vibes with traditional paintings and the Copa playing on the TV. My go to Steak Picado was a bit overcooked and lacking some seasoning. My wife ordered the flautas and they were "pretty good." The guacamole, chips, and salsa has been known to be fire but lately they have been lacking. The service was friendly as always but for being a slow dinner night they did take a while to come around to check for refills and even to pick up and drop off the check. The family behind me ordered what smelled and sounded like a fajita plate and the scent made me wish I ordered that. I will come back and hopefully revise this post and give it a 4 or higher.

Food was good! Cute ambiance, love the Hacienda vibes. Service was fine. Sad they don't have horchata or any aguas frescas, which is strange to me for a Mexican restaurant. Everything was pretty good, smothered in cheese. Definitely not what I would consider authentic, but still tasted fine!

My mom and step dad went here over the weekend and I had them bring me home a plate of their camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp). The shrimp tasted like refrigerator and the garlic shrimp had no flavor other than the loads of unsalted melted butter it came with/in. I decided to try my luck with the chips and salsa. The salsa was pace salsa (the stuff you buy at the market) with a bit of water and cilantro for flavor. My parents didn't have a better experience than I did. They said they're not going back because their food was not great either. Save your $. Go some place worth your while. Try Veracruz in Downey.

This place sets a good example of how exceptional the Azteca plate is the best!!! The rice is also good, and the filtered water is refreshing. The atmosphere is lively and suitable for families and friends, or even a small birthday party. It's a place worth visiting! Victor Yeah

Had the wet burrito it was good but the shredded beef was okay. I liked the interior very nice and interesting the waiter and waitress were really nice. I would come back but to try something else on the menu

Absolutely love this place! The service is fast they're so friendly and welcoming, I feel so comfortable here. Their drinks so good and their food AMAZING. The restaurant has a nice comforting feeling to it almost like home will definitely be coming again.

Come here weekly, this week we had enough. Older lady who's the hostess Is constantly rude. Today she took us to our table, booth was very tight on both sides and would unable to fit. I asked her if we can get a different booth cause it was too tight. She threw her hands out and replied "does it look like there are any open tables" I said, that's fine I'm leaving. I was not going to make a scene with an older lady.

Cheese Enchiladas n Chile Relleno rice n beans Lack cheese and flavor was just ok. Enchiladas Suiza same as above just ok Steak n Shrimp could use 2 or more extra shrimp steak a little over cooked. Burrito Ranchera good size n flavor Nice albondigas soup. Chips n Salsa was good Service was slow but everybody was polite Nice ambiance glad I came as far as coming back not at this time.

Very nice environment, great food, excellent for families or groups. There are a lot of choices to choose from, not expensive, plenty of parking. The waiter Ramiz was so helpful. Giving us attention checking on us. It was my first time at this place, I'll come back definitely.

Service is slow going here. The food is not much better than an average fast food place. Ambiance could use an upgrade. Noticed servers attitude of disdain and looking as if they wished they were somewhere else. Leaving a gratuity for good service would be impossible. Parking is almost impossible here due to the corner bar next to this establishment.

Food and drinks are very good I always get the green enchiladas with a Michelada. The service is sometimes a bit slow but you're food will be fresh

I ordered the Panchito's plate. Taco, enchilada, tamale, chili relleno, beans and rice. Standard fare but it was a generous plate of food. Came with soup or salad. I had the salad which was crisp and fresh drenched in bleu cheese dressing. The house salsa is very mild. I asked for spicier salsa and they came right out with a spicy green salsa. I will go back. Parking is a little inadequate because of a small parking lot and neighboring businesses.

My favorite place for Mexican cuisine. Yummy everything, Albondigas, fresh dinner salads, my favorite flauntas (sp) enchiladas, chili reallano, salsa, oh the Margaritas... what can I say, I have been eating there for years. I may not be able to spell it all but I can sure eat it all with pleasure.

I went here because the food reminded me of my favorite restaurant that shut down: Mexi Casa. The salsa and chips, and hard shell beef taco plate were very yummy. I can't want to come back!

We had a great lunch here on a Monday afternoon just before 3pm. I had a burrito plate, hubby had a taco plate and our daughter had shrimp enchiladas. All super delicious! Service was quick and friendly, and though some people like spicy salsa, I really preferred the mild salsa we got with chips when we sat down - yummy! We'll be back again!

Had lunch with my family here for the Second time. This is a charming restraunt with Mexican decor and art themes, felt like a locals place. First of all I'm a carnitas kinda guy and enjoy all types prepared. I had the special house green Chile verde burrito. Very flavorful with tender pieces and really good green sauce. I added the house "darn good"salsa and it made it rock. It could of used more meat. I'd order it again. Wife ordered the chicken chocolate Mole'. Lots of chicken and sauce, a sauce that reminded me how my mom used to make it from scratch. Those who know what I mean will taste the authenticity of complex yummy flavors. It's one of those comfort food dishes to try. My brother ordered the ceviche tostadas and that was very impressive. The amount was huge and looked super fresh with lots of colors. Nice seafood dish to try on a hot summer day. We enjoy coming to M1900 and will return when in the area. A big thumbs up! Enjoy the pictures Cheers!

Food was wonderful and service was great and attentive. Enjoyed a nice dinner with friends. The only issue was there was no peeling in the lot, but we were able to find some along the street not far from the restaurant.

After living in the area for nearly 20 year's, I've only been here about 3 times. Nevertheless, this place is pretty good. The food comes out quickly and is tasty. One of the only places I can count on having albondiga soup.

We always look forward to going here to eat. Same waiters and food is always great. Try the blended strawberry margaritas with sugar on the rim. Our favorite. Don't drink to fast thought, the brain freeze is killer. They even decorate for the holidays and donate to our communities local theater.

We visited this establishment with some close friends as we are from Hawaii. Prior to the visit I read some of the yelp reviews, which made me hesitant about eating here. That said, I am glad we came. The place was packed and the service was excellent. I noticed the lady many reviews referred to, but poor thing, the restaurant was non-stop, and I too, might be a little intense if I were her as she is well within the age to retire. It is so easy to criticize without knowing one's story. The chips and drinks were non-stop. Wonderful! When the food came it was hot and delicious. No complaintsfrom this patron as my plate showed no evidence that it was ever used. Excellent, excellent! My son and friends loved what they ordered as well. Delicious! I know many people look at reviews to make decisions, but it's likened to the "fake news". True judgement comes through personal experience. When I visit an eatery, I come for the food and atmosphere. People, like myself, have issues. Of course, there is a degree of acceptability, but we need to learn to give grace. No telling what people are facing. Mexican 1900 is a established restaurant one should highly consider. Try it, then make your own evaluation.

I don't usually leave reviews but others should be warned about this place. This place had one of those uncomfortable vibes walking in. No hello or smiles. Then it made sense when the owner starts yelling at a server because they dropped a credit card. Then later when we were leaving my mom asked for a bag for her leftovers, owner said nothing, my mom asked again and she yelled "I heard you" and walked away. The food was good but not worth it.

The staff is great and the service is quick. The food is tasty and is served hot. Parking can be an issue, but I suggest stopping in for a good meal when you can.

Servers are nice. Long time to take order and bring food. Ordered albondigas soup, $14, for 4 albondigas much smaller than golf balls 2 small pieces of carrots and 1 small piece of tomato. And for an additional $3.25 three corn tortillas. Would have complained but we were in a rush.

I just ordered "Chicken Tortilla Soup" and I got zero chicken. Called to let them know I was missing the chicken and was told I need to ask for chicken to be added to the "Chicken Tortilla Soup" what in the world??? Has anyone ever heard of this? I have never ever heard of this, who wants soup with just tortilla strips with no chicken ?????????????????????????????

Worst service I have EVER experienced. Asked for a refill of chips and our soda and got a "okay" attached with an eye roll as he walked away. Both servers who helped our table were extremely rude and ignored us the entire time of our stay. First and very LAST time here!

Old family style restaurant with big comfortable cozy booths, good sized portions, good service, plenty of chips and salsa. I had two chili rellenos that were delicious. I almost did not go to this restaurant because of other reviews. I am glad my friend made me go there. I will be back.

I had heard a rumor that the owner of Mexico 1900 was formally an owner of a restaurant that closed 15+ years ago in Uptown Whittier by the name of Los Portales. It couldn't be true, a piece of my childhood still lived on at Mexico 1900!? I carefully examined the menu and they had the exact same specials, and the pictures on Yelp looked super similar to what we would get when dining at Los Portales, I just had to find out if it was true! We came in for lunch and WOW, the food was extremely similar to Los Portales, not identical, but so similar that it hit every delicious nostalgic note I was hoping it would. Service was great, staff was friendly and attentive. The food arrived fairly quickly and everything was delicious. I was extremely pleased with this experience and we will definitely be back for more.

My family has been coming here for literally decades. I love the food and the owner but I just had the worst experience with the woman who answered the phone (and this is not the first time she has been utterly rude). I cheerfully said that I would like to place a to go order. Her reply? "Okayyyyy," in a very sarcastic tone. When I was speechless for a minute, she then said "I'm READYYYY." I hope the owners, who I adore, see this and the other bad reviews for her. I don't know that I will take my business here anymore as long as she works there.

I've driven by this place many times and always wondered if I should try it. Well, I stopped by for dinner with my family recently and I was pleasantly surprised. It was well decorated and had lots of plants to liven up the dining rooms. Most of the tables are comfortable booth seatings for a party of 2-4 and there are a couple table seating for larger parties of 6-8 ( possibly 10?). We got seated in a larger booth in the main room. Service was great! Our waiter was nice and the bus boys were very attentive. Each of us ordered our own dishes .Although, next time I'll think share a plate with my husband because the quantity of food was quite ample. I love cheese! They were generous with the cheese sprinkled on top of our food. Also, be careful of your plate because it's is hot when you are served your food. I liked this feature because this kept my food warm as I ate. We got two different combos, # 2,#3, and a huevos montados . We all enjoyed our choices. The tamales are house made and had more meat than usual, according to my husband. It looked like practically every table ordered margaritas too. We tried a strawberry one and although it was very good, the alcohol was mild in taste. I wondered if they made a me a "virgin" version? We got a flan for dessert. It was just as I expected and a nice way to end our meal here. Also, complimentary fried cinnamon sugar flour triangle for each of us ! I think this may be our new neighborhood Mexican restaurant of choice. Looking forward to our next visit! So many other things to try! * parking can be crowded during prime times , so plan accordingly.

We are local to the restaurant and have driven by this restaurant 1 million times before deciding to finally pop in and try it on a Friday night. Let me preface this by saying I really wanted to love this place. We walked in the door, and for lack of a better word the grouchy older lady at the register did not greet us, and seemed bothered that we were interrupting her. I finally said hello and her response was "I see you go sit down." I literally wanted to walk out after this point because it was such an ugly feeling that somebody would speak to me that way with an attitude in front of my kids I chalked it up to she was probably having a bad day as we all do so we decided to stay. The servers were amazing, friendly and attentive. We ordered off the kids menu and there were no complaints from the kids. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate and the enchiladas were a bit dry. We also ordered shrimp fajitas which were decent. We had three rounds of chips because the food did take about 25 minutes to arrive and the first two bowls were pretty stale, but the last bowl was fresh I don't see myself going back, especially after seeing all the reviews that the lady in the front is so rude to everybody we all have many choices on where we spend our money and the fact that they keep her up there whether she is an employee or the owner is insane.

The Food here is amazing this place has a homemade vibe and never disappoints. I have tried a few things off the menu and it was so good. Also the people here are very friendly and always have a great attitude

We came from Orange County to see a show at the La Mirada Theatre. We decided to have dinner first at the Mexico 1900 Restaurant. We found the venue to be delightful. Quick service and wonderful food. However, the parking area is very small. We came at 6 PM on a Thursday night and had to park in a space without lines. When we left the restaurant we were stalked by cars to our non-parking space.

Great dinner, a long wait for the food but otherwise a great choice for Mexican food. So good I got a thumbs up for picking this place from my former life I once knew. I noticed they didn't have some margarita pictures so I took the liberty of ordering and capturing them for yelp. Hope you enjoy until next time.

This is the best mexican restaurant you can go to there service is the best and they get to you right away to take your order and there is no longer wait like other reasturant.

Mexico 1900 has some pretty solid Mexican food. I had the cheese enchilada plate with rice and beans and my friend had some chicken enchiladas (We both had Margaritas). We also ordered guacamole which was good too. Both of us agreed, the food was fresh, came out piping hot and tasted good. The establishment itself is very small but decor reminded me a little bit of Don Joses's. Staff here is very hospitable & polite but I felt like they were a little on the shy side as they didn't say too much during our visit. I say try them for yourself, I will most likely be back the next time I have a hankering for Mexican food.

Locals were recommending so we came to check it out. At entering the restaurant the sewer smell hit our face. We thankfully sat by a window away from that smell . Drinks are way over priced and alcohol prices were not listed on menu. Food was ok. Service ok. Guacamole looks like it's not freshly made. I was really hoping we found a good local Mexican good place. Unfortunately we will not recommend.

When we first walked in the lady at the front didn't greet us and look kinda bothered since she was trying to work the register. She then grabs meuns and walked us to a table put the menus down and walked away... my husband and I were a lil shocked but whatever..we ordered our drinks. I order the ice tea and it must have been sitting there for a while because there was stuff in it like filmy things. I sent it back. The waiter was nice he was funny we did appreciate that The food was meh.. not really "authentic" it was very bland. We will not be going there again

Family and I came here on a Saturday, was seated right away, food is basic. Drinks were good. Service however needs a lot of work. Older gentleman who was our waiter was rude and young pregnant lady was extremely rude as well. Both were not friendly and rushed us to order, didn't come check on us at all. I asked for more crackers and got an eye roll. There's plenty of better spots around with better service.

Food was good, service staff was average, some good some bad. The women were rude, one waitress passed our table a few times and never offered to help, she went to kitchen and the guy had to come out of the kitchen i assume he was cooking to wait on us. I think one of the waitresses must hve seen me writing review on yelp that they started to come to table and ask if we need help. The couple next to us must have been on a date cuz he was trying to impress her with his knowledge of what happen on the alec baldwin movie set, want to know how i know what they were talking about THATS HOW LOUD THEY WERE. Overall a good place to eat

The food is okay not the greatest, the service whoever takes your order is good, but the actual owner ( is an older lady) has a horrible bad attitude, she does not makes eye contact with you or thanks you for your business in her restaurant! I tried it twice to see if it was me the one with the problem. I wanted to proved the negative reviews that this place had wrong, sadly they are all truthful enough. No ambiance at all cannot have a good time since they have few costumers everyone around you is tense as you are ! I don't recommend it at all ! Go and experience it at your own risk!
