Mexico Scraps Plans for Its New Mega-Airport

"Benito Juarez International is Latin America’s busiest airport last year, and it is currently operating at over 50 percent capacity with 35,000 flights, handling 44 million passengers. Despite its overcrowding, plans to alleviate this issue include adding a terminal and two runways to a military base north of Mexico City. The airport is at capacity, therefore, no new routes can be introduced."

While there were a few very nice shops I found this airport to be one of the most unwelcome ones to be in. It was hard to navigate because the signs were not clear and sometimes not even present. Even though it was under construction in places, they did not do much to mitigate sound and dust. The bathrooms were never very clean and smelled bad. I didn't really have a choice for an airport and was kind of stuck here. If I had another choice I would go with a different one.

Google
I'm giving it 3 stars because they lack organization. We even missed a flight because they change the departure gates frequently. Some restaurants are worth eating at, and the NH Collection hotel is an excellent place to spend the night. On the other hand, we received poor service from the staff at some stores, like 7-Eleven.

I had a good experience at this airport 🦋loved the art gallery/ museum - ah, don't miss it, such beauty 🦋many stores and places to eat! 🦋there's a few lounges here.... but the signs and how to get there need to be adjusted... I wasted so much time searching for vip lounge for priority pass cardholders.... such wasted time following the signs... for both left and right sighs ... Don't go upstairs, very deceptive, and this one worker tells me it's closed. I've was so upset. Turned out it was on the first floor... so there is a lounge.... so my rating from 3 stars went into 4. Was so happy to take a nap in the lounge.

Had a great experience both coming in and departing from the airport. Arrival was easy and customs was efficient; they put you through an individual scanner (US passport holders), so no stamps coming in. It is fast and you get a QR code for your time in the country. Getting an Uber is super easy outside (but set it up ahead of time). Return trip was great. They recommend 2-3 hours arrival ahead of flight time due to traffic and security but we had time to spare due to lower traffic. We were flying on Delta and went to check our luggage for the return flight; the staff are super friendly and we had a great experience. The check in process was quick and the line went fast- even for non priority people. Security was not very efficient and we got through but the lines were unequal. You will need to put your things in a tray, but our line was out so we had to wait. Meanwhile other lines went faster. No stamp out; no customs to check you out. I was hopeful for the lounge here, but it was under construction so no option. The lounge areas are difficult to find so signage could be improved. Currency exchange personnel aren’t great but we did get a good rate for our exchange. There aren’t many places to sit so seating could be improved, especially since there were a great deal of people who needed to be accommodated (elderly, disabled, limited mobility). We did grab a bite to eat and prices were fair for the airport. Bathrooms were good and kept clean, even with so many people coming in. Our flight departed on time and didn’t delay. Overall a good experience and compared to other airports, this place was efficient, felt safe and overall pleasant.

Google
Nice airport, about 30 min from downtown with no traffic. Before security there is not much in terms os shopping or food but after security there are a lot of options for eating and shopping for gifts. On the second level after security there are the VIP lounges.

Mexico City International Airport offers a mixed experience. Terminal 2 is much more acceptable, with a more modern and functional design, while Terminal 1 feels outdated and no longer meets the standards of a world-class airport. One of the most frustrating aspects is the transfer between the two terminals. There are no free shuttles available for passengers, which is surprising for an airport of this size. Instead, travelers have to pay for an outdated bus, making the process inconvenient and disappointing. Another major drawback is the lack of lounges that reflect the great culinary art Mexico is known for. For a country with such a rich gastronomic heritage, it’s disappointing not to find lounges that live up to this reputation. For a vibrant and important city like Mexico City, this airport has significant room for improvement to provide a service worthy of a global capital.

On arrival at T2, take MB4 outside the exit by the restaurant "WINGS". You must have a Metrocard which can be purchased from the Metrocard machine right across from the restaurant called WINGS. The minimum cost is 60 pesos with cash or credit card. 15 pesos of which is for the price of the card so that leaves you 45 pesos to spend on public transit. The ride on MB4 to the city center is 30 pesos. The first MB4 from T2 will bring you to San Lazaro stop. From there you transfer to another MB4 bus. If your going to north of centro, then "norte". if going south of centro, then "sur". You tap your metrocard on the first MB4 at T2. When you transfer to the 2nd MB4 at San Lazaro, do not tap your metrocard again. The 30 pesos is for bringing you from T2 to the city center on the MB4 line. From the city center to T1 or T2, it's similar. You tap on your first MB4 bus telling the driver a aeropuerto. You will see that your card has been charged 30 pesos. You transfer to the 2nd MB4 bus at San Lazaro. Don't tap your metrocard again.

Google
T2 is a well organized airport. Light and spacious. They had a lot if really nice and interesting decoration when we were there. No long waiting - it took us only 15 minutes to enter, drop of luggage, go through the xray and reach the gates.. Nice views for plane spotters through the big glass fronts. Not a lot of food choice and high prices in the waiting areas as a small minus

Yelp
Navigating a Mexican internal airport can be an interesting experience, and overall, it's designed to accommodate both local and international travelers. One of the highlights is that all signs are conveniently displayed in both English and Spanish, making it easier for tourists to find their way. That being said, the airport can feel a bit confusing at first, as there are two separate terminals, so it's important to double-check your boarding pass to ensure you're in the right place. A standout feature of this airport is the exceptionally friendly and helpful security staff. I accidentally walked out of baggage claims and left one of my suitcases by the carousel. To my surprise, after presenting my passport and providing my information, I was allowed back in to retrieve my luggage--a level of understanding and flexibility that is rarely heard of in airports. This speaks volumes about the staff's professionalism and their dedication to assisting passengers. In addition to the helpful staff, the airport offers plenty of amenities to make your time there enjoyable. There are numerous restaurants where you can grab a meal, as well as small shops to browse through if you have extra time before your flight.

Yelp
My passport, entire wallet, $500 USD in pesos and Global Entry card was stolen on my Viva Aerobus flight. Despite having my passport scanned upon exiting the US, having a photo of my valid US passport on my phone, Global Entry, TSA Pre-Check and having my face scanned at that same airport 3 months prior, I was imprisoned for 15 hours without phone access until I was practically screaming for help to be able to contact the US Embassy. I thought I was going in for a second interview screening to enter the country because my passport was stolen and was asked to compete a form and presumably thought I'd be interviewed. Instead, when my name was called, I was sent to a locked room with a metal door-a migrant detention camp where everyone's shoelaces were taken and phones were locked in boxes "because of protocol". For most of my time detained there weren't any English speakers around and there wasn't any form of entertainment except a children's movie playing in Spanish on TV. About 50 of us were held in a filthy migrant detention camp with dirty floors, prison cots, a broken AC for part of the day and piles of trash everywhere for the first part of the morning. This prison is ironically is located right behind the point of entry into Mexico where I would have scanned my passport if it wasn't stolen. To make matters even worse during this whole ordeal, I was denied the ability to be escorted back to the plane to try to locate my passport, told by a staff member that they found my passport when they didn't, was mocked and ridiculed by some of the immigration police and was not made aware of the law that bans anyone without an original valid passport to exit the airport to get an emergency passport at the US Embassy. It was terrifying being locked up in a foreign country where you don't speak the language well. I was under the impression that I was going in for a second interview to be able to enter the country, but never had the chance to interview and I wasn't even permitted to buy my own flight home or my own food. I was worried about getting sick because the food they provided did not seem to be served at safe temperatures (cold eggs that smelled bad and other items resembling prison food/things I was allergic to or couldn't eat). Some of the guards tried to help by giving me other food, one meal was sort of edible so I ate most of it. They offered to buy food if I had money, but unfortunately it was all stolen so I only had Zelle, Apple Pay and Venmo if they would let me get my phone. I am so grateful to be back in the US. My experience is a reminder that Mexico is a dangerous country with archaic laws. If everything goes well, it's a beautiful place, but if anything goes wrong it could cost you your freedom or even your life. Never in a million years did I think I would ever be locked up abroad and my heart is broken for anyone who had to spend any time in a migrant detention prison. No one deserves to be treated like they aren't even human. If anyone else has experienced a similar issue at MEX or another airport, please direct message me if you'd like to provide a testimony about your experience over the phone or in person to a US news organization.

Yelp
Dirty airport, the elevator never works in the terminals. Plenty of duty free shops and restaurants. Food is not really prepared there, seems like it's all prepackaged. Some shops are high priced. Most staff are courteous and friendly. The guys that service the wheelchair passengers are for the most part awesome and can get you through the airport and customs quickly. The men's restrooms need help, the lines are very very long. Not many restrooms around.

Yelp
Happy to report this airport is pretty awesome! I'm really pleased with my experience here on many levels. First, let's talk about navigating the airport. We flew into Terminal One. Spent the night at the Hilton on the grounds, and then flew out of Terminal Two the following day. The terminals are 3 km apart, so taking the Aerotrèn is really easy. They do check for your boarding pass if you are traveling on it, so just be aware. Because we spent a night at the Hilton in Terminal One, we got the lay of the land and assessed the dining options. Contrary to what some people have been saying in other reviews...there are a TON of dining options. Sushi, Italian, Burgers, Mexican...it's ALL HERE! There are mainstream chains such as McDonald's, Starbucks and others, but there are also plenty of small homegrown establishments. There was no shortage of selection, so you should be able to find pretty much what you want, and at different price points too. Next, it's not the most modern or flashy, but it's clean and organized. I've been to Singapore Changi and Doha Airports, which are the crème de la creme of international airports, so while MEX doesn't complete on that level in opulence, they are a pleasant airport that tries, especially Terminal Two. There are plenty of shops to spend time in as well as the occasional public artwork. Overall, MEX is a great airport and is run really well. I enjoyed my day here and look forward to visiting MEX again soon!

Yelp
It's not the worst airport ever but the layout is a bit confusing and doesn't have many signs or staff available to help direct you. The airport smells like you're outside even though you're indoors and it can get very warm. I flew with Volaris and had a decent experience with them. I did not check in any bags and was able to bring a carry-on and personal item in the cabin. No major issues besides a delay to refuel the plane. I would fly with them again. If you have 4+ people in your party or several bags, I recommend ordering UberXL to accommodate for seating and room for your luggage. Some of the cars on DiDi are misleading since the passenger rules aren't strict in Mexico, meaning a 4-seat car description may actually only have room for 4 people and absolutely no trunk space. Opt for cars that can accommodate at least 6 people with UberXL. DiDi doesn't give you the option at this time in June 2024.

Yelp
A large airport with plenty of shops, restaurants and other amenities at the airport. We were on a connecting flight and had to go from one end of the airport to another and we just about made it to our next gate.

Yelp
I had a layover in Mexico City from Los Cabos. All of the signs were in English and in Spanish. There was a staff member standing at different checkpoints of the airport to give you directions. This is a large airport so be ready to walk. There are many eaters as well as shopping store. The duty free shops are located throughout the airport. This is a clean and well organized airport. Keep your passport handy! I needed to show at per boarding and boarding of the aircraft. The staff are pleasant to talk to and happy to help.

Yelp
My husband & I flew out on 648 aeromexico flight to los angeles CA, on dec 2 about 1915 (it left late) the TSA was absolutely ridiculous & I feel it was because I'm black. They took my hair grease because the jar size was 4 oz even though i opened to show it was less than half full. Next they say my tequila gift set was prohibited, WTF? It was only 200ml, they tried to point that out first, but i said 400ml is limit what are u saying? Then they said it was because the shape of bottle, it was gun shaped but no hole for you to put finger thru since it was All GLASS so how can it be considered a replica? No damn gun is full of liquid!! Just absolutely ridiculous. Im sure one of those staff members stole it & took it home cause it looked awesome. We were there for a funeral & that gift was gonnna end up part of a memorial area we put up at home for my brother in law. Those racist agents targeted me & treated me badly, they even had me go thru machine without my cane & took over 10mins getting my cane back to me, that was done on purpose! Im so disgusted with that airport, I told my husband I'm not going back there. We need to charter a private plane next time.

Yelp
Fast airport, very hot every time I'm here, and lots of restaurant options for my layovers. Flying from PVR to GEG and this was my stop. I like that you have to walk a bit between gates because I don't tend to get my steps in while I travel.
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
It was miserable waiting for our flight. It was so hot in there. The bathroom smelled of very strong sewage. Lines were very disorganized for getting into flights but that more the airlines issues. Staff were a bit rude. We took an Uber here , much cheaper than a taxi.

Yelp
Good luck getting your declared luggage they take about 1-2hrs one of the worst airports!! Avoid this airport by all means

Yelp
In my ongoing occasions to regular leisure travel, I have developed as concise a process for assessing the value of each airport visited. My measures are: 1) ease of access to and from public or private ground transportation: 4.0; 2) convenient parking when having to leave vehicle or dropping off: 3.0; 3) access and convenience of retrieving and dropping off rental vehicles: 3.5; 4) atmosphere, ambience, public facilities, seating areas and access to communications, charging and Wi-Fi: 4.5; 5) overall human customer service - including but not limited to ticket counter, Hospitality, Retail, Support Services, Restaurant and Baggage Handler knowledge, communication, staff attitude and demeanor: 3.5; 6) ease of flight information access throughout facility via signage, boards, screens or clear understandable PA system announcements: 4.5; 7) distance, maneuverability, access and convenience of trekking from gate to gate and/or concourse to concourse for connecting flights: 3.5; 8) quantity, value, convenience, quality and comfort of eateries and/or retailers: 4.5; and last, but not least 9) baggage handling, claims and retrieval location, process and lost and found assistance: 3.0. Taking all the categories, I've devised a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best an airport can be! This airport rates a: 4.25, not bad! Most positive point(s) at this airport are: very service-oriented store associates; clean and convenient concourses to maneuver with luggage; and variety of eats available. The most negative points here are: its distance to CDMX center; it's duty free offerings are no discounts to in city purchases. Special note: watch out for taxi or driver hustling at the stands on exiting airport.

Yelp
I had no issues at the airport. We waited for our flight as you would in any airport. There aren't many options for food or shopping, but that was okay for me. We found our way into one of those airport lounges. Yes we paid, but it was well worth it. Unlimited drinks and food. They even had a shower there. Anyway I watched sunday football while I waited for my flight. I had a really good meal and they kept an eye for my flight. There was a gate change and when it was time to go they ordered me a cart to get me to my gate. I felt like royalty. What else could I want?
google avatar

Avelino C.

Yelp
This airport is very well organized and very clean. I'm actually very surprised at how clean it is because last time I was here he didn't seem so organized or clean. It's also feel safe there. A lot of police walking around and a lot of security. Staffs are really nice.

Yelp
I have arrived two days ago. They have improved their airport system.. Arrive and landed. Wheelchair assistants staffs are amazing. Everything in the airport has changed since my last visit a year and a half ago. No more paperwork to sign from the airplane from getting out of the airplane .straight through luggage was a breeze. after go straight through the lobby, the wheelchair assistant able to push me straight out to lobby into taxis.. unlike my last visit.. Mexico president made Mexico Best..

Yelp
Is it new? No. Is it clean, yes? Massive, yes. You will be taking long walks here. However, if I only had my home base EWR to compare it to this place deserves nine stars. As a US citizen upon landing the immigration procedure was super efficient. No forms to fill out, just scan your passport. Go into the lane that opens up for you. After it closes, have your face scanned and pickup your departure ticket to have the exit open for you. Done! Baggage claim could have better signage for which carousel is yours, but it is not that big of a deal to find it. The wait for the bags was a little longer than expected and something as simple as finding the exit was a little more difficult than it should have been, but the process was still easy. The real surprise was someone checking the bag tags before I could leave. I don't know when the last time was that I saw that happen. I wish this was a standard procedure at all airports. On the return, check in was super easy. The seating was generous, and the shops were all around. Want something from Duty Free? Well, it is not far from the gate.
google avatar

Elle M.

Yelp
Surprisingly calm for an international airport that serves a city with a population of 30 million.
google avatar

Jazmin M.

Yelp
Location: Mexico terminal 1 Staff: friendly Parking: by fee Usually immigration process moves pretty quick. No longer required foreigners to fill out form
google avatar

Ken S.

Yelp
Not a big fan of international airports but this one place is massive. They pretty much offer everything you need inside the airport itself. From your famous top name brand chains to your local vendor there is definitely something for everybody. Going thru there customs and security is actually pretty fast process considering that on this days it was lined with plenty of travelers.

Yelp
This airport is huge and that can be confusing and difficult to get through as you may have to travel far distances in a very crowded airport. Sometimes they are good about having wheelchairs available and sometimes they have none left in the entire airport and if you need one...you are out of luck. Give yourself PLENTY of time to travel through this airport as it is a big one and lines can get long. There is some English here but mostly Spanish signs and Spanish speaking employees. I was told when traveling here that everyone would speak English and Spanish and that is definitely not true.
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
I only experienced one portion of this airport, and the departure terminal is so much nicer than arrivals/baggage claim/customs. Parts do not have AC, which is not the end of the world given the generally nice climate, but it still would get stuffy. The departures area has a wide variety of waiting areas and gates are not assigned until 1hr prior to scheduled departure. Lots of food and shop options abound.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
truly the worst city airport we have ever been to... the departure hall was extremely confusing as the check-in counters are extremely difficult to locate, and the security gates were even more difficult to find. i know it's strange, but you'll know what i mean once you experience the cdmx airport. once past the security gate the departure gates are set up the same, with strange mid-level tiers, it feels more like a maze than anything. food offerings aren't so great, and it just feels very disorganized. note on uber: easy to request, difficult to ride. like other airports, ubers are "frowned upon" so the local taxi organization make a point to keep ubers out, our driver was gracious enough to pick us up at the terminal even though he could've gotten into trouble with the traffic police stationed at the passenger loading/pick-up zone. overall, this airport definitely needs a good restructuring.

Zuleima E.

Yelp
This is the worst airport I've ever been in my life. There's no structure/organization, there isn't enough help/assistance on the floor, personnel are NOT friendly at all. The security check point is a shitshow to say the least, there is a lack of urgency during the process for those with connecting flights or to move the lines along.
google avatar

Ricardo L.

Yelp
No es de nadie desconocido que la terminal 1 está en muy mal estado pero el servicio por me recibo por parte de algunos de sus empleados siempre a sido muy buena, esperemos y en un futuro próximo se le haga algún tipo de remodelación a esta terminal.
google avatar

Erik P.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a long time but from what I remember it's gotten a lot bigger. Service - Poor service as everyone is running around and no one to really assist you. Security - Poorly managed lines and the inconvenience of coming in and having to go through Security again for our connecting flight that wasn't international at that time. It gladly moved quick and avoided any delays. Venue - The place is large with decent amount of stores (cluttered) and a few restaurants that give you options. Seating - Limited seating at terminals and arrangement to board are poor. Overall needs to be organized better.
google avatar

Nadav M.

Yelp
I'll be a bit harsh since this is a major airport in North America, in a gargantuan capital city. The airport gets you in and out, sure. But like 95% of the time you are transported from the plane to the terminal and Vice versa on a bus. Shops are open and closed throughout the airport regardless of day and time. As usual the stuff is somewhat overpriced but with good planning you can cut that spending off. Not many screens telling passengers where's what and gate information. Gates change somewhat often so that's an issue. Long walk and barely any moveable aid technology to help you get to a place of the terminal faster. Security is one of the easiest that I've had in general. Very good transportation in and out the airport. You have a bus terminal to get you to other places in the country. Underground train, buses, and guidance is available. Also get ready to climb hills and experience leakages.
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
This airport is certainly showing its age, that was evident upon our arrival and departure. When entering if you are a non-citizen everything is electronic as you enter so no need to fill out a form. The signage isn't clear when claiming your baggage upon arrival so you'll need to be on the look out. If traveling by United, they are pretty good about updating things on their app. Customs was fairly simple too they screen your baggage on arrival, and as long as you don't have foods or other contraband you should be fine. We forgot to throw out some apples in our carry on, but they were nice about it and we simply threw them away. Departure, airline check-in was fairly easy, again signage was lacking on where to go it wasn't clear. Security, was fairly easy, again traveler faux pas I accidentally left a half drank bottle of water in my bag, it got tossed out no biggie, also i was bringing back some cookies I purchased from Walmart, those were subject to additional inspection. The gates again this airport needs an upgrade, the gates for united flights are a bit of a mess, we were next to the volaris flight to LA, and the lines backed up with no clear order or anything else.

Yelp
This one right here, it's not the best but it's not the worth. It'll definitely just get to you to where you need to go. We all have a love and hate relationship with airports but on this particular flight I didn't love it nor did I hate it. On our way to Peru we had a two hour stopover flight in Mexico City for two hours. After exiting our first leg of the flight we had to find our transfer connection which was fairly simple since the signs were easy and clear to read. Trust me, I've been to several airports were its absolute chaos when exiting the plan and having the catch the next flight but on this case it was fairly simple and we had no issues. You just have to triple check you're in the correct area since the signs are flashing every few seconds with gate information. Although our flight departed thirsty minutes late we arrived thirty minutes early which gave us two and half hours to walk around the terminal prior to boarding. There's a decent amount of options when it comes to food including restaurants, fast food, candy & fruit store, coffee and shops. It's airport prices so expect to pay the above normal cost. The stopover was midnight but due to my surprise a lot of things were conveniently open. The airport itself is pretty outdated and when it comes to cleanliness it's about average. There's nothing to rave about asides from its an airport and it'll get you to your destination.

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -The CDMX airport is a beast. -The two terminals are connected by the aero train. -I've traveled through this airport a few times now so I can speak on my experience. -When you first visit you will be overwhelmed, but after getting used to this airport you will see that it's actually pretty proficient & flows well. -Being that Mexico City aka CDMX is North America's largest city, you should know that the airport will be pretty big too. -Customs arriving & departing as an American citizen goes smoothly with little wait times. -The security checkpoints can get crowded so it's always advisable to come a little earlier. -I even used this airport as a transit where I stayed at the izZzleep capsule hotel located in Terminal 1 & it was a smart move which reduces a lot of anxiety & stress, read my review on that. -There are plenty of restaurants before & after the sterile areas. -The aero train is free if you show security your boarding pass for the flight or your reservation for an airport hotel. -If you have a Priority Pass there are several lounges you can use, but they will get pretty crowded. -However, if you can get inside a lounge it's much more comfortable vs waiting in the terminals. -The Uber pickup area is located around Door 5. Overall, this is a big airport, but if you travel through it often you will quickly get used to the flow & overtime it will become easier to navigate.

Yelp
Muy mala organización por parte del personal. No amabilidad en absoluto, Personal de los mostradores y seguridad en vuelos matutinos están durmiendo y molestos con la vida y no ofrecen ayuda en general.

Yelp
When we arrived to MEX to go through customs it was a complete chaotic mess. I believe this was my 4th time to this airport but I've never seen it as busy and unorganized before. The pitchforks were out as passengers were very upset at the disorganization of the lines and the lack of custom forms available as they ran out. The employees are very helpful as I asked on several occasions for directions around the airport.
google avatar

Yelp
MEX is definitely not the most modern international airport I've ever been to, but I don't remember it being a nightmare to navigate. I guess I remember airports by how painful or painless the experience is. I'm pretty good at finding my way around, and especially as a non-Spanish speaker, the directional signage at MEX was sufficient. I managed to make my way through baggage claim, immigration, and car share pickup without having to stop for questions, which I guess is a good sign. Getting dropped off was easy as well. There's a decent amount of online resources that can tell you what paperwork is needed for arrival and departure, so like all international travel, check that out first.

Yelp
I over-rated this airport out of the gate. It's not my favorite. Granted, it does seem that great strides have been made with lines at passport control, but guess what, now the passport control area smells like a sewer. It's also hot constantly. Want to have the experience of hanging out in a sweat lodge with thousands of people? Well, you're in luck, Mexico City's airport is your place. It's so stuffy, I'm not even sure they have any air conditioning on. Flights are often delayed for no apparent reason other than traffic backups. Even if your flight boards on time (it won't), you'll sit in a hot plane on the tarmac for an absurd amount of time that makes Atlanta and Chicago O'Hare seem like quick experiences by comparison. This airport has plenty of runways, but from what I could tell, planes take off and land very haphazardly. Frequently, the same runway is used for takeoffs and landings, which can add a lot of time to your trip. So - to sum up - hot, stinky and takes forever. Not a fan.

Yelp
We just flew in and out of the Mexico City airport for vacation last week, and it was a fine airport. (We were flying internationally and were only ever at Terminal 1.) Lots of shops and places to eat. Security was fast when we were there - but we flew through in and out on Tuesdays. Wish there were more seats near some of the gates and the airport definitely doesn't look new or updated, but it wasn't a terrible airport.

Yelp
Growing up overseas, my baseline for airports is different from others. Is this airport a little more run down than Washington, D.C.'s DCA? Yes, but I love that! Flying into this airport from Atlanta was easy! Passport control and customs was a breeze and there are plenty of food options and restrooms. We brought our puppy with us and it was an easy experience to get her checked and on our way. There's taxi service, but you can order an Uber, which is easier and more reliable. Access Uber with the airport's free wifi if you don't have cell service.

Yelp
Mexico City's Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez is delightfully efficient! From swift check-ins to speedy security, everything runs smoothly. Plus, the terminals are well-stocked with local food vendors and souvenir shops. Just be sure to allow extra time for any flight delays due to Mexico City's notorious traffic. ¡Buen viaje!

Yelp
Not horrible, but not good. It's kind of chaotic, especially if you're a visitor who does not speak Spanish. But once you figure it all out, it's not that bad, especially compared to other international airports I've been to. We took a red eye to Mexico City from Seattle where we landed in CDMX in the early morning, around 6am. The line for customs was insane, but honestly compared to Manila, this wasn't as bad. The line was long, but you just gotta stick it out and hope it goes faster than it does. Afterwards, it was a little confusing to figure out where to go to grab an Uber as there were no signs for this. When we asked multiple airport employees, they would give vague directions - or even, contradicting information. Holy moly. When we went back to the airport to fly home, we were dropped off at Terminal 2 for where Aeromexico is. Again, it was a little chaotic to figure out where to go because there are multiple Aeromexico check-in points. Eventually, we found our way, but the worst part was when after we checked in at the ticket counter, where they verified our negative COVID test and vaccine card, you then proceed to the security line where someone stops you and tells you that you need to download some app, which basically verifies that you don't have COVID and you have a negative test. Sooo, what was the point of showing these documents earlier? Also, what are people supposed to do if they don't have a smartphone? Ridiculous. But after that hurdle, the airport doesn't as bad. It's just a reminder to get here early for international travel! Plenty of bathrooms as you walk down to your gate, several seating areas and the airport is pretty clean. An A-OK experience.

Yelp
Good airport easy to move through Customs especially for connecting flights. Lots of options for food. Just the bathrooms are lacking. Overall 4 Stars !!

Yelp
Honestly, I loved Benito Juárez Airport. The only thing confusing was taking my connecting flight because I had to go through immigration and then back up to security. I had time to order from Ojo de Agua, and made it just in time to board the plane. They had cute stores like Mini So and massage spots too. Like why couldn't my layover be longer LOL

Yelp
Much more advanced, classy and modern than most US international airports, I love the Benito Juarez International airport (MEX). I've traveled through here twice only yet I am super liking the clear layout, signage and organization. For example uber only picks up off Door 7. And there's no random transportation center that you have to hunt for like at US Airports. The food options are varied here befitting an airport for travelers from different countries. It's not limited to a handful of American choices...( OK maybe one Mexican and one Americanized Chinese) like my oft criticized LAX. Finally there is a Marriott Courtyard right in the airport (not across the street from the airport, in the airport) and also a capsule hotel next to the Marriott, if all you want is a bed, internet, and don't mind using communal bath/showers. Now the cons, gates can be chaotic during boarding and they need more power sources for technology. Workers are observant and helpful, not like our US airport workers on autopilot. Every time I visit an advanced airport like MEX, I write about its great features/ amenities in the hopes that my dumpy home airport, LAX would ramp up and get with it. We really need to replace the old guard that makes antiquated decisions for LAX. It's 2019 and the acclaimed almost complete remodel is akin to repositioning walls, repainting them, adding expensive food options (come on Umami Burger?, there's a plethora of local Asian, African, Mexican, Latin, Middle Eastern and world cuisines and you give us a high end burger? Lmao), adding video art (so typical LA---all flash, no service improvement to its users). Oh yes and they added 2000 power plugs and they thought it was enough (when the airport needs 5,000 more and the same number more chairs). But there's a lot of great Art on the walls?!!. LAX is sooo out of touch. Laughable.

Yelp
Do not plan yo have a meal before your flight unless you arrive 4 hours prior to the flight. Service is terribly slow, there is no bars at all.

Yelp
05/20/2018 Definitely much different at this airport than at Los Angeles International Airport. There's not much of a line at the security check but there was a huge line at the airline counter. That's because one in our group couldn't check in at the kiosk computer. Lots of people going in different directions but when you are going through the security line, let's pay a little more attention so we don't get detained. Once we got past that area, it was all the duty free shops. After that are all the gates. We didn't have to go far but not many seats available all together. It's a really long corridor to walk down to find where this guy said he got Krispy Kreme donuts and McDonald's. Just have to watch for the gate change.

Yelp
I must say this has to be one of the most confusing airports i've been to. I'm not sure if its purposely designed to have things on each end of the airport but dam, I almost missed my flight back to the USA. The lines to check in are still like back in the 90s when you have to talk to all the agents. The kiosks are not working and very confusing. Dont want to be to much of an "American" but it was hard to communicate with anyone. The signs are very confusing and there are lines to who knows its going to. There are a few bright spots. If you did finish checking in and still have time to explore. There are lots of nice shopping stores to look at. There are lots of different food places to check out. And of course there's a starbucks to get some drinks. However you dont really have time to check this out because of the inorganizations of this airport. You have been warned!

Yelp
I think this was the WORST time I've ever had traveling. The staff is rude. People are constantly asking you for irrelevant papers and at every corner you're being attacked with sanitizer. Your bags are always being manhandled regardless of what's in it and you never seem to be calm in this place because there's a large swarm of flies everywhere. When you come into the country you receive a SMALL piece of Paper at immigration that no one tells you to keep. Well I learned the hard way that you need that to get out of the country and if you don't have it it costs $26USD at immigration to buy another. Like I said people are just rude here. If people spoke to me with a nicer tone I'm sure I wouldn't have been offended half the time I was but it all comes down to the staff feeling empowered by making the client feel vulnerable. I will NEVER be coming back to this airport again.

Yelp
Enjoy all the smog views as you're about to touch down in CDMX. The airport is not super big but also not small by any means. My first time transitioning through here was a bit confusing. I ended up paying a guy to show me where to go, as the shuttles/terminals can get confusing. Now I've been here a handful of times and I know my way around. There's a few places I go to eat, drink and charge my phone while I sit. It's been under construction for sometime do don't expect it to be esthetically pleasing.

Yelp
This airport is not well thought out in means of gates. We got our gate 10 minutes before we were supposed to board then had to run to the gate. When we got there 3 other gates were all boarding next to ours and there was a sea of people with no guidance or lines. The best part here is the gift shops.
