Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa

Ended up at Mhondoro as the Kruger was flooded. Could not have ended up at a better place. Very relaxed attitude to game drives and meal times (unlike many other lodges). Tish was a superb and well informed guide - we ended up seeing all the Big 5 except leopards. The food was fantastic with special shout outs for Oupa, Sam and Jacob at front of house. The special treat was all the wildlife parading in front of the Lodge - a constant changing picture of wild Africa. We thought the web pix of elephants at the pool would be a once a year sort of thing, but we were called to see a single bull within an hour or two of arriving and then there must have been over twenty at various other times during the days and nights. The Hide constructed near a pond allows close-ups of all the animals and amazing photo ops. The well stocked bar and comfy chairs help. Cannot recommend this place any more highly. We just visited the Mhondoro Lodges and it was the most incredible experience. The lodges are beautiful, very sleek and stylish - the owners have taken such care and attention to detail to make them very special. The staff are fantastic - you turn up and they are all there to greet you and from that moment until when you leave, they couldn't do more. Isaac the GM and his team are so kind and go above and beyond to make you have a very special experience. The food was amazing, a lovely, healthy range of beautiful meats and fresh fruits and veg and a delicious house wine selection. The watering hole in front of the lodge is the star of the place - the daily visits from elephants, zebras, warthogs and more was just magical. A place to be totally spoilt and indulge at.

My stay at the Mhondoro lodge was just perfect! The service, the food, the location and the entire experience was just unforgettable. Many animals coming next to the pool and even the elephants were drinking in the pool. The safari experience was also amazing. We had a super guide called Jaces, he mad it super interesting and exciting. The reserve is just stunning and we saw the big 5! The lodge is very nice and in the middle of the nature. The design and decorations are lovely too. The only « negative » thing that I can say is that we can see that the lodge is not « Brand new » anymore but still very beautiful.

Excellent arrival experience at the Mhondoro farm on the perimeter of the reserve where they served a great lunch made with produce from their own produce (also used at the lodge).|A ranger then collects you and drives you the 1 hour trip to the lodge. Spectacular greeting by the staff who sing you in and then, with few formalities, you’re in your room.|Suites are lovely: spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed and spacious with lovely views out across to the watering hole in front of the lodge.|Food for dinner, especially the braai , was amazing and the best of any of the safari lodges we’ve visited.|Game drives aren’t focused on ticking off the Big Five: the emphasis of the very expert and skilled guides is on the animals and their habitat, which suited us but if this is your first time probably better to choose somewhere with, for example, more lions. That said, we saw our first leopard ever here!|Morning coffee and sundown drinks sometimes served by lodge staff out on the reserve where the guides rendezvous. That was a lovely experience too.|Staff are uniformly charming and helpful.

We recently visited Mhondoro and had a wonderful two night stay. We drove from another camp and communication for arrival instructions from the camp was super straightforward. The eco farm as an arrival point is stunning, what a beautiful way to be welcomed to a camp and the food here throughout our stay was some of the best we had during our full trip and indeed that I have had at any safari camp. So fresh and delicious and the chef made a point of coming out a couple of time to chat to us which was lovely. It’s got an almost Disney feeling to it with a watering hole so close to the front of the camp that just had wildlife around it constantly, there is a photography hide that is really nicely done, and I got some great shots from there even just from my phone and we even saw an elephant drinking water directly from the swimming pool. The team are so warm and welcoming and made us feel completely relaxed and at home.

You can't go to South-Africa without spending a couple of nights at Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa. An hour drive from the entrance of the national park so very quiet and isolated. We were 4 and got a villa with a small private pool. 2 large bedrooms and equal bathrooms with outdoor showers, large living room, cleaned up every day. We were welcomed by the most friendly staff. Stayed for 3 nights and did 6 game drives (3 in the morning and 3 in the evening). When you go ask for Tish as a guide/driver. She is truly the best. The food (fine dining) was freshly made by excellent chefs and they even produce their own wine... You can even spot animals up close when observing from an underground tunnel access on the domain. We were lucky and got to see elephants drinking at the pool.|And please take some serious photo gear as the animals can sometimes be at a distance.

Stayed 9 days, unfortunately during a rainy spell for most of the time. Nonetheless, I can recommend the lodge and Welgevonden reserve. Due to the weather conditions, I was not able to obtain ideal photographic conditions, but my guide Zaan made up for this by going above and beyond in her search for rare and hard to find animals. She really made the experience successful by showing me the ''little things'' that you usually miss on game drives. ||The property itself is splendid, with a well thought out hide in front of a waterhole. Food and service was top notch and all staff were always ready to help and indulge in my every needs.

Again, what a fantastic stay we've had in Mhondoro! With the famous field guide Jaces and our amazing private butler David, nothing could go wrong. And our (first!) experience in the pool, with the elephant's trunk in it too, was really surreal (and also a bit scary, I have to admit). Oh yes, and don't forget to ask for the chef's special pepper-truffle-sauce, to go with your excellent beef fillet; couldn't stop eating hahaha
