Do not skip this place. Parking is easy if you drive around the block. It’s small inside, and take only but this place is the epitome of authentic flavorful Spanish food. The menu is written on a chalk board in English, though You will have to order In Spanish (unless the daughter is there - she speaks English and is really helpful) or you can pull out the google translate app, type in your order, translate it to Spanish and show the employee. It’s so worth it, the food is out of this world. Also check out their other establishment right next door mi casa market! Great addition to the Troy community

Google
We ordered Mi Casa catering for our Black Friday dinner. We didn’t want more turkey and wanted to spice things up. MI Casa did the trick. We asked for a milder style of jerk chicken, rice and plantains for our 11 guests. A reasonable $115 later and we are all stuffed with the spice leaving an enjoyable tingle on our lips. One guest described the jerk chicken as challenging spice but satisfying. An extremely authentic Caribbean meal. We will be ordering again. Also, we picked up at the mi casa market down the street as the owner operates an authentic Latin influenced downtown grocery store there. What a beautiful space for a market. A gem in the city.

Pictured is the small sweet and sour chicken with rice/peas, large jerk chicken with rice/peas, and the empanada! All the food I have tried thus far is amazing and full of flavors you can’t get elsewhere in Troy! The guava empanadas are my favorite! Very filling meals and lovely staff! They are investing in the community which is a plus!

It’s been 4 years since I moved away now and I still dream of this place. The owner makes you feel like you’re home and taken care of. I ate at this place every day for weeks during lockdowns and it brought me joy during a time of isolation. Their roast pork is incredible.

Google
Not the best location, there’s plenty of homeless outside that you have to watch out for. For what you get it’s way too much money. You ask for rice and they fill it up to 95%. Meat is extra charge but they don’t point it out anywhere. ($14.05)

Google
We catered from this place for a party of around 65 persons. It was amazing. Food is delicious and very authentic. Had a large order delivered without any problems or mistakes. Delivered by a very professional and helpful person. Service is courteous and on time. The owner confirmed my order the night prior and helped me with extras which made my party a hit. Food was plentiful and my friends took left overs with them and I still have some more for dinner tomorrow. I strongly recommend this place.

Stew chicken and yellow rice. Amazing place. Service is excellent. Feelings so satisfying when I arrive. Clean as ever. Join me and head over for a small at 5.50 large 7.50 XL 10-11 dollars that's not bad !!!!!!

Google
We live in North Adams, MA. On our way to the airport we decided to stop for lunch. Never been here but decided to stop as both if us miss true authentic Latino food. We were not disappointed. We ordered ribs, stew chicken and the pernil. The food was amazing and not unreasonably priced. I do wish they had more than 2 seats for dine in but other than that, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Food is excellent! Stewed pork and ribs are well seasoned and cooked. Melt in your mouth delicious. The only reason I am giving 4 stars not 5 is because we love their plantains and they only include them when they have them. Which the past few times we have ordered they haven't sadly. Other than that great spot to try something new.

Yelp
Thank you Mi Casa for providing a home cooked meal, a home away from home, to my son who is in college and feeling under the weather. He enjoyed the beef stew and chicken empanadas! :)

Yelp
Good empanadas, nice family. The empanadas at the farmers market were much better than the ones at the store and it made me a little disappointed.

Yelp
A scary movie that has been made out of my life. From the Day I was born. I really felt like I could have been loved by anyone. From the Day I was Conceived. I seen my life. I am sure I didn't treat my kids that way. And all the Kids that God gave to me to care for. If anything came of this mouth, Charge it to my Head not my Heart

Yelp
Found them on farmers market in Troy. Not much people going in their booth but want to try their jerk chicken. Ordered it with the rice and peas! Oh so yummy! The spice is not overpowering. Craving satisfied.

Yelp
I had Mi Casa at their Farmer's Market stand, so I can't really speak to their ambiance, but the food itself was amazing! Very flavorful, and perfect portion size. The chipotle sauce was really really tasty, and had a nice kick. I got the stewed eggplant over rice and peas and loved it. The woman who was working the stand was also really nice and quick service.

Yelp
Am I in the Lowed East Side NYC?? Or more accurately DR? Super tasty, healthy portions (I hope they still do ok, Rent-wise, with those generous portions), good pricing & container size options. I got the $7.50 medium size & a $2 Beef Empanada. You can mix & match, which was great. Rice & pigeon peas, stew chicken, sautéed Yucca, I asked for "one" shrimp just to try it. Their salmon looked good too-next time. I saw a customer asking to try a bit & they gave a sample of the fish in a tiny cup. The Dominican Cake in the Fridge (is that tres leches?) looks really good- for next time. Interesting Latin sodas also, malta.. I've passed by a few times & they seem to have a steady stream of customers, young families, professionals that work downtown AND phone orders. They have an empanada club card also- too cute. The service is quick & nice, food is extremely fresh and flavorful- I'll be a regular. Supposedly there is Sancocho soup on Saturdays, oxtail sometimes too- that Anthony Bourdain episode in DR has me intrigued. The space is very clean & bright, with a small L shaped counter to eat. Appreciate the little footrest at the counter for us short people. Thank you for Flavor!

Yelp
I ordered the roast pork (pernil) with yellow rice and a beef and cheese empanada. I ended up getting rice and peas, which is no big deal. The issue I has was the pork was very dry. The beef and cheese empanada was not filled, and when I split the empanada in half, half of the empanada was empty. The empanada was not warm, and tasted old. I still was able to eat the food, hence the two stars, but there are better options in the area.

Yelp

Yelp
What a delightful little restaurant! I've seen my fair share of steam table based latin places, and they are a mixed bag. But there are a few things that set Mi Casa apart. For starters, I love the three choices of serving sizes. There's a diminutive $5 tin. For heartier appetites, you can upgrade to a larger $7.50 vessel. And for those who are either truly starving, in training for an intense sports event, or buying food with the intention of having leftovers, there's the full sized $10 plate. One of my biggest pet peeves is shocking large restaurant serving sizes, so it's wonderful to see a little latin place bucking that trend. Brava! I was there for lunch, and I went for the small, which was plenty for my 180+ pound frame. Being new to the place, I asked about how this all worked. And I was walked through all the options for rice, and shown all the proteins. This is when it's important to eat with your eyes. The thing that looked most appealing was the rice with pigeon peas, and the stewed chicken. My thought was that if I was still hungry at the end of this plate, I could always get an empanada or try one of the slices of house made tres leches. While there was no flan in the case, I asked, and they occasionally have it. But like the dishes on the steam table, the sweets are rotation of ever changing options. Except I wasn't hungry at the end of my plate. The chicken on the bone was tasty, and I loved that some of the stewed juices and vegetables were ladled on top. Maybe the meat could have been more tender. The leg meat was better than the breast chunks. But for five bucks, this was a satisfying, delicious, and comforting meal. I do wish that the counter was either higher, or the stools shorter, as I felt like I was towering over my food as I ate. But it looks like most people enjoy Mi Casa as a takeout option, and the food does seem well suited for transit. This is just another great little place that the residents of Troy can call their own. The place is well lit, the visible spaces are immaculately clean, and the staff is friendly. The price is right. The food is good. The portions are ideal for human consumption. It's full of potential. I'm hoping to get back and try more things, and should I find a dish that truly lights up all those pleasure centers in my brain, I'll look forward to adding another star.

Yelp
I didn't know you could mess up bacalao.. This is the worst bacalao I've ever had, tastes like they forgot the salt? Or boiled the fish 17 times? Just awful. I ordered jerk chicken for my sister it was decent but a 5 / 10. We also got 2 chicken empanadas awfully dry, tasted like they were sitting out since yesterday.

Brystol G.

Yelp
The food was great!! i like the ambiance very laid back the menu easy to choose and the service was good as well the young lady who served me ay bendito she was beautifu! I will be back!

Yelp
Really good Spanish food the stew chicken was seasoned just rite and soooo moist. Lol the empanada was good as well. Definitely will return.

Dominique A.

Yelp
Great price for such delicious food and large portion sizes! Everything was perfectly seasoned, nothing was overly salted. If you want a home cooked meal you've come to the right place. The tres leche... wow it was gone in 5 minutes. Very light and not overly sweet. Staff was also very warm and inviting.

Yelp
This spot is homemade Latino food and is made fresh w generous portions. The crew was so sweet and handle the food with care during times like this. I love empanadas and was so happy to see that they serve them here as well, I ordered 2 each of chicken and beef however they weren't as filled as I'd hope and didn't come with any type of sauce (I typically get w a mojito sauce at other places in the NYC). All in all you have to try this place if you love Latin Caribbean food and we will def be back as the plated meals are amazing!

Yelp
I can't walk in order from here without missing home. The food is delicious, the staff is beyond friendly and the establishment is clean. The empanadas are bomb!

Yelp
I noticed this place opened up a couple of weeks ago and was curious to try it. I have to say the food was delicious and the prices for everything weren't too bad. The man behind the counter was very nice. I ordered the yellow rice with red beans and chicken. It was all very good and I had enough leftover for lunch. I also ordered two empanadas, which cost $2 each. In total I payed a little over $12.00 for my meal. For payments they accept cash and credit cards. Also I believed they had 6 flavors for the empanadas. They were beef, beef with cheese, cheese, chicken and cheese and chicken, I unfortunately can't remember the sixth one. Service is also quick, so it's a perfect place to stop for a lunch break or dinner.

Em T.

Yelp
This place serves walk-up style Caribbean food. The empanadas are a good snack, though a bit greasy. There's a nice variety of sodas too. One issue: the owners would do well to change their front window sign and website as they are not serving Spanish food (read: from Spain). Some items are correctly noted as Dominican and things like the tres leches dessert are served in many Caribbean cultures. The food in Spain is completely different from this & calling it that is confusing and also misleading. Embrace the Dominican pride and call it what it is!

Yelp
A small Bodega style food joint. The food is displayed behind glass you just tell them what you want. It's very good and reasonably priced.

Yelp
I'm so happy to finally have a place to eat that's like back at home. Delicious food, huge portions, and at a great price. The beef stew I had was awesome. ¡Buen Provecho!

Yelp
I am so so so happy that troy finally has an authentic and delicious Dominican spot!! The area desperately needed a spot like this and I hope Mi Casa is here to stay. They offer three sizes for food, ranging from $5 for a small, $8 for medium, and $11 for the large. I usually get the small and it's more than enough (I've gotten the medium once and had the itis). The food has been consistently delicious and fresh, all the empanadas are delicious and the people who work here are so incredibly nice! I truly feel like I'm home when I'm here, eating an amazing home cooked meal...I guess it's true what they say "mi casa es su casa"

S S.

Yelp
I ordered stew beef, it was not stew beef. It was a few pieces of steak over white rice with a few carrots. Very dry and no gravy. Pieces of the meat was hard, just a no for me .

Yelp
They are so friendly and the food is wonderful! My boyfriend and I go here all the time, and have never had a bad experience!

Yelp
Always gives you a good amount of food and it's a lot to choose from hard to have a favorite.... the prices are very reasonable as well you should definitely check it out if you haven't

Yelp
I noticed this new restaurant over the weekend and decided to try it today for lunch. The staff were absolutely wonderful and pleasant. I felt very welcomed and would definitely come back to support. The food was great! I had rice, chicken and cheese empanada's which tasted like real home cooked food.
google avatar

Rechina J.

Yelp
I go around testing new restaurants and this was a bad experience. I ordered roast pork, yellow rice and potatoes. The roast pork was very dry, no flavor what so ever. The yellow rice was absolutely bland. No vegetables the best of the meal was the potatoes. On a scale of 1-9 I'll give it a 2. Will not be going back! I doubt if they make it till summer.

TheGrace O.

Yelp
I'm writing a review on a door dash order. I ordered the baked chicken with rice and pigeon peas, plus the steak & onions with yellow rice and pink beans. The chicken was pale in color and tasted like it was a day old. The steak was hard and not flavorful. The rice was ok. I gave this place a try because I like to support Latino owned businesses. I'm going to give them another chance by visiting the restaurant.

Vince N.

Yelp
The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Reminds me of my times living in the Dominican Republic.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant was amazing, it tastes just like back home. I hope they stick around because they'll have me as a customer permanently. Muchas gracias por una comida tan sabrosa.

Joe P.

Yelp
I love the place and the food but the meat portions are too small, ends up being a bowl of full of rice.

Susan S.

Yelp
Helpful, friendly staff, amazing food and very clean! A welcome addition to the neighborhood. I could eat here every day. Actually, I probably will

Sarah D.

Yelp
This place opened 2 weeks ago, and so far so good. The owner is great and the food is delicious. They have quick take out, including empanadas. The rice and chicken in particular have great flavor. We'll be back!

Mercy L.

Yelp
Excellent service and a ton of food for less than $10. Parking was easy and convenient. I got the pepper steak with beans and white rice... it was amazing! The food is already made so no wait time and enough seating space for a small food joint.

John W.

Yelp
Just walked by after a concert downtown. Small, unassuming; Hispanic "soul food" I would call it. Mostly take out, but we ate in at the counter. Great place for a quick bite or to get wholesome takeout for the family. Good value. Would stop there again.

Caleb W.

Yelp
First time trying it out, and i am so happy I did! Amazing food! They were very friendly, and they didn't skimp out on the food. Staff was very friendly and I would recommend to everyone. I will surely be back soon.

Y M.

Yelp
Even though they advertise it on the front door and on their menu, they don't serve Spanish food, they serve Dominican food. It's pretty simple: Spanish is a language or something/someone from Spain not from Latin American countries. You wouldn't say English food to refer to American food, right? The same with Spanish.

Tito E.

Yelp
Love this new lil spot. Generous portions of delicious food. I got a large container of rice, beans, roasted pork, and some shrimps! The space is super clean and inviting. It is a small spot with limited seating( 5 stools total). Overall great and fast! The simple menu design and esthetic I really appreciate. I would've done 5 stars if they had some homemade hot sauce!!

Annie P.

Yelp
one of the best restaurants in downtown troy honestly. filling food for great prices and great customer service! the meat they serve is fall off the bone and so flavorful, and theyre so generous with portions, and i would kill for the plantains. the soda and cake are a great treat too! places like these are what make troy great
