This item has been on my Miami must see list for a long time, I was intrigued by the artistic and architectural elements of this shopping area.
We had stopped at Wynwood Walls first, which is only a 7 minute drive from the Design District. I'm aware of the high price points at these stores, but we only came to window shop on our visit.
You do need to pay to park, but the rates aren't bad if you are only here for a couple of hours. We parked in a garage and entered the shopping area through the large bubble structure. Kind of a cool entrance!
The stores are mainly high end shops. You have currently hot designers such as such as Celine, Christian Louboutin, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Givenchy, Hermes and Saint Laurent.
Looking for jewelry or watches? Cartier, Tag Heuer, Tiffany & Co. and Harry Winston are here.
It was honestly a little on the quiet side when we visited on a Sunday, I was surprised. They did have some kind of family friendly Halloween event going on with tons of kids in costumes when we visited, but we didn't see throngs of shoppers.
The Design District is probably the closest thing Miami has to a Rodeo Drive like experience, other than the upscale malls like Bal Harbour. I liked Bal Habour more than here for high end browsing/shopping, being a New Yorker, I appreciate the lush and tropical vibes that they offer. Design District is more of an urban concrete feeling.
If you are looking to high end shop, my absolute favorite spot in South Florida is Worth Avenue in Palm Beach over any of the Miami options. You don't have to deal with city driving, parking is free for 2 hours and much less of a hassle.
Worth Ave is a much more peaceful and serene time by the ocean, plus Clematis street in nearby West Palm Beach has a large assortment of restaurants and some bars. We have even come up here on Sunday when the shops are all closed and it's fun to simply window shop.
