Michael's Chocolates

Didn't know there was a gelato place here and was super excited to try it out! Hubby and I shared 2 scoops of dark chocolate and pistachio. I'm a huge fan of pistachio and it's not really easy to get a good one around. Michael Mischer gelato was amazing! You could really taste the roasted pistachios!!! Delicious! The chocolate was rich and delicious as well. Unbelievable! So happy to have found out this spot! Prices are reasonable - 2 small scoops (you can get 2 different flavors) for $4 ain't bad. Place inside is lovely and spacious with couple tables to sit! So many chocolates to choose from - I still have to come back to try out their chocolates! But for now, I'm going to dream about that lovely gelato. Can't wait to be back!!!

I’ve never been a chocolate person but I think I’ve just never had good chocolate before. I tried the salted caramel and the speculoo which was made for the holiday season and both were really delicious. I also had the salted caramel hot chocolate which was very good. The owner, Michael, is a very kind person who has so much knowledge about chocolate and wine (he used to be a wine sommelier before going to to chocolate). They have a few indoor seats but you can sit outside as well.

I LOVE their traditional Italian gelato…refreshing and not too sweet! Great stop after a walk around Lake Merritt. And the chocolates and chocolate-covered espresso beans are heavenly.

I haven't been to this storefront, we met Michael and Curtis at a chocolate festival last weekend and they were lovely! Delicious chocolate and lemon burst was my favorite! My husband loved the Bourbon chocolate set. Two of the nicest people you could meet and the chocolate was divine!

Micheal, the owner, was especially nice and walked me through the notes of some of his chocolates. His lemon, and earl grey chocolates both won the coveted Good Food Award. The chocolates whisk you into a world of positive measures and possibilities. They are an escape from the mundane that remind us of hope; because Micheal crafts something wonderful even as the world can sometimes feel hopeless for us to enjoy.

I've only ever gotten the gelato here, but it's one of my go-to places for gelato/ice cream in oakland! Don't be confused by the name - they offer much more than chocolate flavours, and you're allowed a small taste to try some flavours if you can't make up your mind yet. And I think the flavours change from time to time so you can try out different ones each time you go. The staff is friendly and helpful at making suggestions.

The shop is nice and the chocolates are beautiful. A single chocolate bar is over $10 so the place isn't cheap, and though I've tasted the very delicious pumpkin pie chocolate, I'm not sure I'm sold on the price tag. I have no doubt a true chocolate connoisseur could justify the price, but as a guy who enjoys Ghirardelli, my taste buds aren't so refined. I bought the Murry River Salt medium dark and the toffee/Murry River Salt in milk. I'll update this rating after trying those two... of course they're coming out at the next dinner party. For now they sit snuggly in the cabinet in a sealed air-tight container.

We sent an assortment of chocolates to 125 clients of ours. The reviews were the best we have ever gotten. Michael was a pleasure to work with. And I’ll be delighted to work together again!

We met Michael at the Zinfandel event in SF and OMG!!! We tried their bourbon caramel pecan chocolates and that was the most euphoric experience on my tongue. The combination of all ingredients complimented each flavor. Michael was so friendly and personable. He's very passionate about his craft and it comes across in his chocolate. Highly recommend

Great product, friendly service. Wasn't sure what to get. They helped me make my selection and the box looked gorgeous. Tried some samples too. Ended up picking up some fancy marmalade/fruit jelly type of a product and some dark chocolate discs with fruits and nuts for myself too. Both are divine. I will be back. I am glad I finally found a place in the East Bay that has great chocolate and outstanding service. Thanks guys.

What a find!! So lucky to get Yelp help on this - I was in Oakland and wanted to pick up some good chocolate for gifts Very special place - they also had great coffee and gelato- I picked up some dark chocolate Santa's and some gift boxes- I also bought a dark chocolate candy bar - I opened that up on the way to the car !!! Perfect !!!! The staff was super friendly and I will go back for sure !!

These are impressive chocolates! Michael was in and extremely helpful, of course we couldn't decide so we got one of each. And the shop was phenomenal in one of my favorite parts of Oakland! I love when shops have ample lighting and this place did! Can't wait to come back for the ginger chocolates!

A few years ago, I started hosting a Rainbow Bazaar at our office during Pride month, where I invited LGBTQ+ owned businesses to showcase and sell their wares to our employees. Michael's Chocolates - run by Michael and his partner Curtis - was part of the first market and I've invited them to several other events since. An unexpected occurrence happened during this inaugural Rainbow Bazaar a few years ago: "Michael's Chocolates" met "Olive This Olive That" and they've been happily partnered ever since...well partners in business that is. They created a praline that features olive oil from this store selling olive oil and other delicious stuff. Above all though, the chocolate they're making is delicious, innovative and beautiful to look at. They come out with a special colorful Pride Collection as well as a chocolate heel that I just loved biting into!

I loved michael's before and it was a local favorite of mine. I was curious about the new owner(s) and was thrilled that not only is my favorite chocolate store improved, but the owners are super friendly. They came out and spent a lot of time with me talking about what I liked before, what they have, etc. Customer service is an A plus. The presentation of the chocolate is beautiful and the bourbon truffles are amazing. I was so excited by how great the chocolate was that I ended up buying a huge bag of chocolates and are now plowing through them. I can't recommend this place enough...

I was THRILLED to visit Michael's chocolates today! What a gem this chocolate shop is! Michael and I chatted for awhile about his shop and his chocolate-making styles (he likes really shiny, contemporary chocolates), and I bought one of each kind he had available. These are AMAZING chocolates. I meant to have them throughout the week, but it seems they will be gone by later tonight. I'll just have to stop by again soon! Absolutely 5 stars! Wish I could give 10!

I randomly found this place and holy smokes the hot chocolate with house made marshmallows is shockingly good... Like challenge your palette good. Took me two days to finish it because it was so satisfying for its size. It's complex and creamy like watching a good documentary or something. I used to adore dandelion hot chocolate but I moved to east bay and an so glad I found a place near me.

I stopped in today to pick out an assortment of chocolates and I couldn't be more pleased! I have an annoying tree nut allergy and Michael came out to walk me through what chocolates do and do not have nuts. Also, the woman working the counter was incredibly helpful and knowledgable and they have both made a customer for life. To seal the deal, the chocolates are INCREDIBLE so I'm going to come back to get some gift boxes for friends and family. In addition, they have gelato for hot days and drinking chocolate for cold days so they really have you covered in all directions and I truly cannot recommend Michael's chocolates enough!

My sister and I were visiting Oakland and our favorite place by far was Michael's Chocolates. Not only are the chocolates absolutely gorgeous (they are basically edible art), they are over-the-top delicious. We bought some to bring home, as well as eat during our visit. We also each had a scoop of gelato too. The gelato was refreshing and extremely flavorful. Too bad I can't bring gelato on a plane, or else I would have brought that home too. Michael and his husband were both very friendly and so lovely. We really enjoyed talking with them. They both were super sweet (pun kind-of intended.) They made our experience even better. I highly recommend Michael's and will definitely be stopping by on my next trip to Oakland.

Michael's chocolate creations and gelato are otherworldly delicious. And the customer service is always conscientious. His brilliance makes great gifts, too.

Amazing chocolates and delicious gelatos! The chocolatier is also lovely to stop and chat with and clearly and expert in all things chocolate. If you have a moment to spare (and a sweet tooth that needs satisfying) highly recommend taking a visit.

Absolutely AMAZING!!!! I've never had such delicious chocolates and they are so silky smooth. I get giddy just thinking about them. I gifted my mom a box for Christmas, she's over the moon, savoring every bite and trying to pace herself.

I bought some of the "Drinking Chocolate" which are little discs that are good eating chocolate, too. I made it with hot milk. Melts fine and tastes incredible.

Not only did he personally rectify an issue with an order but the chocolates are incredible. The hazelnut caramel latte dragees too. Above and beyond customer service. I can't recommend this place enough.
