Michikusa Japanese Restaurant

My partner and I first went to Michikusa to celebrate an anniversary, and now it’s one of our favorite restaurants and our go-to place for any special occasion or just any ol’ time we’re craving an amazing meal! (Seriously, I love this place so much, I’m tearing up just writing about it….I’m such a fan, I once made oversized replica Michikusa-brand chopsticks as part of a Halloween costume?? See attached picture! I’ve tried to draft this review several times over the years, BUT TODAY IS THE DAY!!!) Michikusa has a bit of a “secret treasure” vibe, based on the space’s location in a tucked-away lil office-park-looking area. Still, the interior of the restaurant is very modern, with simple seating options, minimalist décor, and vivid wall art. The food and service are, without a doubt, the greatest highlights of this place: everything is prepared by professional, highly-skilled chefs (honestly, the food is presented like artwork, so yes, artist-chefs), the main server/host is an actual hero (*we’d like to make him the godfather of our future children!?! 😊); and every dish presents the best of authentic Japanese cuisine. You can’t go wrong with ANY of the sushi rolls, but in my opinion, the Dragon Roll is *lifechanging.* If you prefer a ramen dish, the Spicy Miso Katsu Ramen is outstanding, and they have a board with numerous specials. Ample parking; sushi bar and small-group seating options; a memorable, fantastic local restaurant!!!

Sushi is tasty and reasonably priced. Service was good but a bit slow for a sushi place possibly due to staff shortage. Will visit again to try the specials. This is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant.

This is the best sushi I've had in Lexington, and probably the best Japanese meal I've had overall in the last 2 years. The nightly specials menu (on a random Monday!) had over two dozen items, and they all sounded intriguing: We got the salmon skin salad and the grilled eggplant, both were incredible. I suspect there were many treasures hiding on this menu, I plan to return and explore further. Fantastic experience.

Fantastic! The most authentic Japanese restaurant in Lexington! I am so excited that someone told me about this place. Honestly, I want to try their whole menu. Tonight I had the pork belly eggplant appetizer, a drunken shrimp roll and a pair of otoro - it was worth every penny.

We went for lunch on a Saturday and enjoyed it very much. It’s a small, low key shop that feels authentic and offers some dishes, like Oyakodon, that you rarely find on menus anywhere. The Oyakodon and the sushi we ordered were all tasty and reasonably priced. This will now be a regular spot for us.

Chill, minimal atmosphere. Our server was the kindest man! He was very friendly. Fish was fresh and we like the selection on their specials board. My favorite was the curry udon and the pork belly eggplant. Everything was pretty tasty. The beef tataki was unexpectedly expensive $14 for 5 thin slices of beef. It didn’t feel like it was any special type of beef, so that was a little disappointing. The food came out a little slow (there was 3 tables including us at the time)and the price was slightly higher than average sushi places. I would dine in again and try something new.

Solid meal at a low key restaurant! The tempura udon/soba tasted fine, light, and clean. It was just a little overpriced for udon soup in my opinion!

What a great hidden gem! The sushi was fresh and portion sizes were reasonable. One of the best Japanese restaurants in Lexington. The restaurant is a little hard to find since it's in more of a residential neighborhood.
