On the Grid : Brouwerij de Prael

"Right in the middle of the red light district, this pearl is tucked away in a small alley. The scent of beer will lead you straight to the bar. We recommend ordering a beer tasting and trying all their own brewed beers. The bar has a very social aspect, it gives people with disabilities the opportunity to work. In this cozy tasting room you will quickly feel at home." - Resoluut

Love the vibe here in a tucked away place just off a main street. The food is great, the staff are great, and the beer 🍺 is what you come here for. Cheers 🍻

Google
Quick and easy brewery to hit from the train station (5 minute walk w/ bags). Lots of unique beer options on draft.

Google
I enjoyed my beer, well worth another visit when I have more time in Amsterdam.

Google
I visited the brewery and it has a great ambiance, Delicious Craft Beers and very good & friendly service. Its not far from central station and in the middle of a great area in Amsterdam. I'd highly recommend everyone to pass by and have a taster experience with a small bite like bitterballen or fish & chips when visiting the highlights of Amsterdam.

Google
Had an excellent experience here- a warm and friendly atmosphere with great beer selection, and great bitterballen! The staff were really helpful!

Google
This place is amazing!! The beers are fantastic! It's a very nice place to have a good beer in the town centre in Amsterdam! The atmosphere is great... Beautiful people... Very cozy place!! All beers that I tasted was a full explosion of flavours! Price is good as well. Staff are very friendly. Food is great... If you want to have a good beer.. that's the place.

Google
We visited on a recommendation and we weren't disappointed - excellent welcome and service from Linda, delicious varietal beers, great pub food - all of which made for a satisfying afternoon on a cool winter's day. In particular our server helped customise each of our beer floats, so we were able to compare all of the many flavours that the microbrewery has to offer - the service helped make us feel very welcome and the rustic atmosphere and music made the experience even more relaxing. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Google
Nice brewery near the centre for a glass of beer and food. I appreciate the explanation and kindness given by Wibe. He was so compassionate and professional to give us the Dutch specialities and nice little tour. Wibe made my day and the beer styles are diverse so anyone can find what they love.

Yelp
Great little spot to grab a beer. Good mix of styles, not all are hoppy, which is a big plus. Fun crowd, helpful bartender. Inside and outside seating, a little something for everyone. Food is just bar food, I'm sure it's fine, but go for the beer.

Yelp
Let's start with their great service! Before I was seated, I had a beertender asking about my needs! Thanks! It's a nice brewery. It's big and open with loads of seating. Their beers were good, mostly different, but that's the fun. I tried all 11 on tap!

Yelp
Cool spot near Amsterdam Central. Had a sampling then picked a winner. Also got lunch. My hotdog was okay, but my wife loved her tuna melt. Good service from friendly staff.

Yelp
What a great brewpub find in an alley! Outdoor seating, craft beers on tap, and small bites available until late. Super friendly service and they were on top of clearing dirty dishes from the tables. Highly recommend if you like craft beers and less street noise from the main roads.

Yelp
Eclectic brewery with multiple draft beer options. We had a couple IPA's and the Scotch. Nachos were surprisingly excellent which we didn't expect. So we also recommend the food based on our experience!

Yelp
This brewery and bar is well worth the stop and in a great location as it is very close to the Amsterdam Centraal train station and the red light district. The seating was generous and comfortable as my friends and I were able to sit in couches while sampling the different beers. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant for an early evening on a Friday- not too busy. Overall if there were some good cheaper food options this place would be 5 star worthy most assuredly. But nonetheless if you're just looking for a place to knock back a few beers with some good company, this place will do the trick beautifully.

Yelp
This place was recommended from a very good bike tour guide. Beers are brewed there and they are FANTASTIC. So flavorful. Try the snack platter for amazing snacks (and bitterballen!). We went to have lunch the next day. Food is also great.

Yelp
Praellokaal is a really solid bar in Amsterdam. Most of their own craft beers are solid (minus the Double IPA which had too much "funk") and I especially enjoyed their tripel. The food was also pretty good as the sausage plate was good and the bitterballen was enjoyable. Fine I admit, their Tripel was so good I had to come back here a second time for a quick drink lol. Place gets packed on Saturday...like sardines packed. Due to the prices they charge for their beer, 2.5 - 4 euros, this place is must! 4 stars.

Yelp
Nice old-school hidden bar in center of Amsterdam. Lot of places and good store with beers, glasses, and nice brand swags of this brewery.

Tom C.

Yelp
I really like their mission. The bartenders are great. The place is casual although sometimes overrun by the larger tourists groups. Most beers are tasty. Their IPA is always serviceable, as is their tripel. Lots of variety. If I had a knock on them it's that their beer glasses are REALLY small. I'm guessing 7-8 ounces drinkable is what the pour gets you. Not terrible considering you're paying €3 -€4 per glass but I'd rather pay more for a normal sized glass. This feels like a tasting.

Yelp
This place is a must go if you love beer and are in Amsterdam. The brews are great (the pale ale is my favorite) the atmosphere is fun and the staff is friendly. Didn't try the food but they do have food. The inside is big or you can sit outside . Beware this place is in the Red Light District! So after you have had a couple practice awarness and walk around all that craziness! It is totally awesome. Smoking pot outside while sitting at the tables also seems to be exceptible if that is your thing. People were doing so and know one cared. A common thing in Amsterdam.

Yelp
This place is one of the best kraft beer places in town. They sometimes have free boiled eggs but have a good menu too. This has comfy armchairs and is a great place to meet friends. It is also a social hub in town and has lots of events going on. There is often a bingo night on a Wednesday. I have been to the Ab Fab one and the week after, the main prize was a scooter! This is a great place with a group of friends.

Yelp
Love the way this place is decorated. It has such comfortable seats! Perfect for a casual meeting or just beers with friends! They brew their own beers which is always a plus on my book! Right now they have the collaborative beer with Tony Chocolonely: Tony Stout. Make sure to check it out! I haven't tried the food yet but I'll definitely come back soon! I hear it's quite good though! I'll add more to my review after I come back for a non-work-related evening :) Great music, great beer and the service is fantastic!

Thomas F.

Yelp
Friendly brew pub with great beer. Servers are very helpful in selecting a beer from the range for you.

Yelp
Yeah, so I'm kind of in love with Praellokaal to the point where I'm always making excuses to go here. "Hey guys, on the way to the station shall we hop on by Prael?" "Man... tappin these prostitutes makes you tired! Let's get some locally brewed beer now!" "I'm so high I need beer and great Dutch bar food!!!" or my personal favorite... "yeah... I was on my way to the gym when I accidentally ran into Prael... tee hee BURRRRP" Bottom line, this is one of THE places I take all my visiting friends. It's a neighborhood brewery just down my street and I love the weird decor, awesome beers named after Dutch singers, weird staff, better than average Dutch food (the kip sate and bitterballen are lekkertastic!!), and the fact that most tourists miss it so it's not that packed. Sure the services isn't that attentive, but it's a bar in Amsterdam. Helloooooo! Don't know what beer to get? The Doe Maar is my fave :) So repeat after me "Doe maar een doe maar!"

Yelp
Funny bar in one of the small streets of old town, close to railway central station. We just dropped by to have a beer, got a tap one which was little watery, probably from the bottom of the barrel. Shabby looking bar (which I like!) with few tap nozzles are perfect for long hanging outs. Spacey interior with two levels and plenty sitting space, still does not create a cozy atmosphere. We were encouraged to take part in the bingo night, which was little not our style, but it is the matter of taste. First impression was ok, but it is not a kind of place I would deliberately come back to.
google avatar

Rodger W.

Yelp
What a nice spot! Typical Amsterdam 'smartlappen' music, and they brew their own beers too. Fantastic beers, by the way! They also organize events like bingo evenings. Fun! The food? I had a typical Dutch dish: 'stampot', which was delicious! The meatball was almost as good as those made by my own mother, which is a huge compliment! So, do visit this great place where people get a chance to learn and grow in having a real job by serving the customers of this homely venue. People who work here usually don't get such a chance easily elsewhere. So be a little patient, just in case.

Yelp
Went here for the first time yesterday. This place looks great. There are vintage details, lot's of different seating options (couches, tables, vintage chairs) and industrial details. It is all very cozy and gezellig even though this place is actually pretty big. De Prael beers tasted really good, but what was weird, was that there were like 8 different ones on the menu but like 5 were completely sold out? On a weekend night? Also, service was terrible. We had to wait extremely long and were out of drinks all the time. Waiters are just ignoring your waving? Super lame. Maybe it was a night of but I got really annoyed by this. I saw a lot of people eating food and it all looked really nice. So three stars because this place looks awesome and is very gezellig, the beers are very good, prices are decent but minus 2 stars for the terrible service and so much was sold out.

Yelp
After my feet were killing me from shopping last Saturday I enjoyed a couple of nice triple blond 'Willeke's' at 'proeflokaal de Prael'. A very cosy place which I especially like because it gives people a chance to learn and grow in having a real job and serving customers. People that would not get such a chance easily elsewhere. They serve nice snacks to go along with the beer. Good 'bitterballen' and not the usual mix of stuff that go with a drink, but a nice mix of cheese, olives, dates and sausage. And yes, you got to visit the toilet and check out the tab, but the whole place is very authentically decorated. I am not a beer drinker, but I like a special beer once in a while and I will definitely come back to get one again here. And someone noted it is not the place you would take your business contact. I would definitely think of this place for a next team outing, because it is a social place and in this way you can contribute by drinking beer. What's better then that!

Yelp
This place is an oasis compared to the surrounding establishments in the downtown red light district. They had about 7 or 8 beers on tap and I believe I tried them all. The triple was very good. We sat in the first bar area inside the door and in there you will want to go to the bar to get your drinks and order food. I saw what appeared to be wait staff running around, so apparently in some other areas you can get table service. Generally the bar area line wasn't too bad but every now and again an amateur would gum up the works by either wanting to taste everything or just stand there hoping for inspiration. If you are looking for a place to get away from the atmosphere outside, this would be a good one. My only mistake was not finding their full menu and getting the mussels that appeared to be very popular while being taken and removed from some other seating areas. Next time I would recommend it and would return.

Yelp
Great craft beer selection at good prices (€2.5/€3). Not a touristy feel either. The cheese board was amazing!

Yelp
This brewery is incredibly unique in its tasting room. The beers are creative and interestingly above average and you're served quickly. The best part however is the overall visiting experience in that the entire place is an homage to the past, as if it was decorated from a vast collection of antique stores. We would definitely recommend this for a sweet and casual date, because you're sure to find the perfect chairs for your desired ambiance. Whether you want to have a romantic evening or good conversation with a friend, you're almost guaranteed a charming time.
google avatar

Jesse And Christy S.

Yelp
a little hard to find this place. If you end up at their store down the street, they'll just re-direct you. All the beers are great, it's not very touristy and the ambiance is cozy. Didn't try the food but would come back for the beers. During peak hours there seemed to be a ton of reservations so you're not guaranteed your own table. in other words, be prepared to cozy up and make some new friends.

Yelp
We stopped here to taste a couple of local beers. The restaurant looks very nice inside - decoration done very well. We stayed at the bar as we weren't eating. I had a couple small beers to taste and they were ok, not my favorites. I would try this place as a restaurant if I came back to Amsterdam though.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
This little brewery is awesome! Great vibe and atmosphere, some couches and plush chairs upstairs on the loft overlooking the bar. Didn't try the food since their card machine was broken but had enough to get their pils and the beer was tasty indeed. You can see the small brew tanks upstairs thru the glass and there was some more space downstairs I didn't make it to but all in all a solid spot to meet friends or have dinner and a drink.

Yelp
Great locally brewed beer (rare in Amsterdam). Great interior, homemade fries, and a perfect hangout for a first date.
