"Private beach and 40 acres of forest and headlands make a spectacular main event or backdrop for lodge or cabin rooms with rustic charm galore. Board games, fires, with evening cookies and hot drinks only enhance the enchanted camping and beach atmosphere. Wifi can be sketchy – all the better to disconnect and reclaim the spirit."

Yelp
Great location with view, private grounds and beach. Lovely large lodge area with tables, couches, and fireplace with amazing view. Staff was friendly. Included breakfast was decent with boiled eggs, fresh fruit, fresh croissant, bagels, toast, ham/cheeses, and juices/coffee/tea. The negatives- The first lower level ocean view room with patio we stayed in the first night we checked the linens and bed as we normally would - discovered the sheets and pillow covers were past their prime and had that well used scent. Worse the duvet was likely hardly or never cleaned and had many stains, liquid spills/accidents, and what seemed like old blood. We notified the staff the next morning of this. Our second night we stayed at a upper level ocean view room with patio and checked the linens and bed - this room had similar condition linens and pillows and duvet didn't have as nearly as many stains. Sorry but these are not items an establishment can cheap out on - to clean thoroughly and/or replace when needed. There are no excuses for these conditions. Also no television in rooms or lodge.

Yelp
Pre-COVID we had a 5-star week in December of 2019. Recently I phoned to get an update on 'things' in general: room rates, availability, etc. Items not available online. The 'receptionist' was very evasive to provide direct answers to my questions and after several pregnant pauses, hung up. If said phone call is recorded I trust management will educate said 'receptionist' on public relations protocol. I was left with the phone hanging, the jaw dropping, and my mind wondering how this girl was allowed to deal with the public. Unfortunately we have chosen a different local establishment where reception was 5-star. Too bad.

Yelp
I fortunately made reservations for 3 nights back in January because a few months later I discovered the entire property was sold out for our dates. Room options include 2 lodges plus triplex and duplex cabins with us choosing room 28, a second floor queen in the Headlands Lodge. In 2004 and 2006 we stayed at the adult only Lodge on Beach, but found the rooms too small. Our room had a micro patio offering a pretty good view of Mackenzie Beach if one leaned out over the railing. The lodge is very eco friendly going back to its original construction and furnishings. The setting is drop dead gorgeous with unobstructed views of Middle and MacKenzie beaches. Every employee we encountered throughout our stay proved to be both friendly and helpful. A continental breakfast is offered each day that covers the bases, but it became repetitive after 3 mornings. Dinner is served in season at the Lodge at the Headlands 5 nights per week with appetizers available in the Great Room beginning at 6PM. The evening's appetizer, lemon guacamole crustini, was excellent. At 7PM everyone joined a conga line for dinner that featured an entree of poached Chinook salmon with a spicy tomato chutney and lemon linguine. Three excellent salads were served buffet style - spicy quinoa, green beans and a mix salad with orange segments and roasted squash. Desserts included a choice of chocolate lava or mille-feuille. The chocolate lava cake was unexpectedly dry, the only misstep of the evening.

Yelp
We swung by Middle Beach Lodge for a drink while hiking the beachside trails in and around Tofino. After an hour and a half of lightweight hiking, a drink at the lodge sounded like a great idea. The bar here, while limited in selection, has extremely reasonable prices. There are a few cocktail options, Sea Cider (ridiculously delicious cider that's absolutely worth trying), and some beers and wines. Our bartender was a bit disorganized in locating the wine bottles of interest and a bit slow in whipping up our cocktails, but we eventually got everything we ordered, so I can't complain too much. The real showstopper here is the view. You can enjoy your drink while looking out over the water. Large windows in the lounge area make this feasible and pleasant while still indoors. However, if weather permits, take your drink outside and chill out on a deck chair or patio table outside. We were able to enjoy our drinks outside, and it was an incredibly peaceful, gorgeous, and relaxing experience. 10/10 would hike and have a cocktail here again.

Yelp
Amazing views. But when the room is over $300 a night I would expect the soaker tub to work. No mention of it broken and no help to get us a new room or any compensation. Might be a petty complaint to some...but when it's February in Tofino and raining buckets, a soaker tub is nice to have. Especially since there isn't a hot tub

Yelp
Loved the first stay at Middle Beach Lodge five years ago, the two of us in a deluxe ocean facing cabin for two nights (#58). Two floors, open space main and kitchen, fireplace, balcony deck with hot tub. Quiet, spacious, exclusive feeling. Expensive though . . . Came back on a Groupon to a room (#11) in the adult only lodge at the beach for a long weekend. Small room, but good value, comfortable queen bed, balcony with chairs overlooking the ocean. The Lodge is lovely and relaxing, with expansive views of the ocean and Middle Beach, fireplace and reading. The continental breakfast has fresh, nutritious and hearty choices, better than average. The only complaint with the room is you hear noise from the room above, the hallway and adjacent rooms. There is little if any sound management, so if the people above or beside you are heavy steppers, you now hear it all. The first morning want to sleep in and rest, was not to be with the neighbours stepping around a lot for wake up, head to breakfast, come back to pack and check out. Then the brief quiet after they all left was broken by noisy cleaning, banging around and vacuuming by cleaning staff above and in rooms beside us, which continued until we left after 12 to surf . . .

Yelp
Lovely collection of cabins and two central lodges on the tip of the coast outside Tofino. Nestled between Mackenzie Beach and Middle Beach this is ideally situated for stunning vistas and private walks alone scheduled beaches. Our room was comfortable although looking a bit dated when compared to the web site. The staff weren't the friendliest when we arrived but this was due to one person on reception rather than the team who are generally very nice. We had dinner here the first night but there was no indication you could ask for something other than the set menu. Thankfully the chef had cooked an alternative as I didn't like the shellfish on offer. That said the meal I did have was lovely. Breakfast is plentiful and continental which means you can have as much or as little as you want There is only one sitting for dinner. You get unlimited tea, coffee and fruit through the day and the bar had a good selection of BC wines and local(ish) beers although a little pricey. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay here and would love to return although we will be better prepared when we do. Middle Beach is a great resort but a little tired in the rooms and the staff can take things for granted. If you visit spend your time in the main lodge by the log fire or on the veranda and watch the world go by. Just don't be afraid to ask if you're not sure about something.

Yelp
We stayed in a suite for two nights at Middle Beach Lodge just before New Year. The room was large and comfortable, with a bedroom with king size bed, living room with fireplace (electric), full kitchen, bathroom with a large soaker tub, and balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable, and Middle Beach Lodge was one of the few hotels or resorts I've stayed at with wonderfully comfortable pillows. The balcony and bedroom window overlooked one of the resorts private beaches, and we fell asleep listening to the ocean. The two reception buildings have common areas with board games and movies, large fireplaces, and many comfortable couches and chairs. The breakfast included with our stay was simple and delicious, with a small selection of meat and cheese, hard boiled eggs, freshly baked croissants, muffins and cinnamon buns, with jam and honey. Coffee and teas are available all day. The resort is between, and a short drive to Pacific Rim National Park and Tofino. Overall, our stay was wonderful. The price per room is quite high, but well worth it. Next time, we'll be sure to stay for much longer!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay here. The location is beautiful. Breakfast and dinner service was great. There are cozy lounges to hang out in, with an ocean view. Staff was very helpful and kind. I'm looking forward to staying here again.

Yelp
Loved the location, views, main lodge building, service, and ambiance. Did not love the lack of screens on the windows of the cabins. The weather was cool and dry during our late July visit, but we had to close the windows due to the mosquitos. What should have been cozy nights in the comfy bed snuggled under the fluffy comforter with the cool ocean breeze softly infusing the room with the smells of the ocean and cedar trees became stuffy hot nights swatting the mosquitos with the windows closed!

Yelp
My lovely wife took me and our dog here for my 30th birthday as a surprise and it was one of the best places I've been to. Gorgeous location as it's situated between Mackenzie beach and their own private beach. The accomdations are rustic with a nice wood-burning fireplace and a small kitchenette in our suite. Service was responsive, the maids were fast and did a through job, considering we left a bit of a sandy mess on one of our days =P Complimentary breakfast with assorted baked pastries, fruit, bread, oats and a wide variety healthy fresh juices and coffee to go around. In the afternoon, they'll have freshly baked cookies as well. Dog friendly, which is a must and Rusty loved the resort. They even put out a little basket with some dog treats, litter bags and some dog towels. Small details go along way to making a client happy, even the furry ones! Lots to do around the location, well marked trails and helpful staff. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I loved MBL. We had a deluxe duplex suite with comfy beds, a rustic but cozy and lovely cabin with a great view. I went with my two children and the only thing that left me with a bad taste in my mouth was the final pricing. BEFORE I booked a place in Tofino, I called around to several properties to compare rates. At MBL I was quoted a price and asked the girl to confirm if "That was it? Taxes, all in?" was my wording. "Yes" she said and I replied that was wonderful and OK I would book it. Today when I checked out I was quoted a total for $60 extra, which I had NOT budgeted for. When I mentioned the phone conversation, all I got was the 'Oh yeah that's DEFINITELY the before-tax price." There went our trip to the Ukee Aquarium. Kids were pretty sad, I felt burned.

Yelp
This place is nice, and only a few things keep it from being 4/5 stars (I would give 3.5 if I could) They offer rain gear and rubber boots (although first come first serve) for exploring around the beach/property. They do offer all day tea/coffee/hot chocolate, apples, oranges, bananas (fruit basket) which is nice. They offer free cookies at night which were pretty good (although they burnt a bunch of the cookies 1 of the nights we were there. The main lodge has a nice fireplace with good views out the windows, books, magazines, board games, chess, movies to borrow for your room etc. They play a lot of classical style music or like coldplay/celine dion music as classical style.... I get it with the atmosphere, just not my style its kinda ambient anyway Beach was pretty nice, but nobody was surfing on it while we were there. We went surfing on Chesterman beach (seemed like the hot spot) They have continental breakfast in the mornings which is pretty good (but again some cinnamon buns were burnt 1 morning we were there). Breakfast includes slices of swiss and gouda cheese, sliced ham, hard boiled eggs, fresh muffins (poppy seed, and fruit muffins), home made flakey cinnamon buns with icing, good quality bagels and bread, cereals, oatmeal, orange apple grapefruit juice, milk, coffee tea etc, and they have really good farmers market style jams. Breakfast was good but nothing too fancy. My wife and I stayed 3 nights (friday, saturday, sunday). We stayed in the main lodge upstairs. The room was an okay size, bathroom had a nice soaker tub, but.... the bed was pretty loud/squeeky.... (was comfortable enough I guess, good blankets and sheets but not the best bed). Room was clean, Staff were polite. Would stay again.

Yelp
NOT living up to our expectation. Misleading Info! We should had listened to another traveller's review on other website! The 4 of us stayed 2 nights at the 1 bedroom "Deluxe Sixplex Suite" (#61) at Lodge at the Headland at Middle Beach Lodge in July 2007 at $410 per night (charged us extra because the base rate is based on double occupancy). From our previous trip, we had learnt having a cabin RIGHT ON the beach is crucial. With the beach in less than 30 steps away, you can enjoy a romantic night under the Tofino starry sky anytime at night; or, you can have a rejuvenating morning stroll along the beach when u pop right out of bed. SO before we made the reservation, we specifically asked HOW FAR is the cabin from the beach. We were told cabin #61 is a Beach House and we can WALK to the beach from cabin #61 in less than 10 SECONDS!! When we got there, we found the cabin in fact is SITTING ON A HIGH CLIFF (~50m) ABOVE the Mazkenize beach! Yes, you can get to the beach in a second - unless you jump off the cliff of course. It is definitely NOT ON THE BEACH as the receptionist mentioned! There is a path leading down to the beach but it took us 10 MINS for 4 healthy adults in our 20s! Also the path is quite steep, slippery, creepy and can be dangerous at night. The CONS summarized: - Definitely NOT "beach front" as advertised. - Suite is TOO SMALL. Terrible futon. Quite expensive for a group of 3-4 ppl value-wise. - The Queen size futon is the worst i have slept on. I know I cannot expect much from a futon, but it is just terrible. Absolutely no support for your back. The floor is a better option. - The suite has a rustic feel to it - while the picture posted on the MBL website appears to be quite modern. - NO BBQ stove provided. Bring your portable one. You are allowed to bbq on your balcony. The only PROS: - Overall the suite was clean, quiet (couldn't hear anything at nite), surrounded by wilderness. A good place for relaxation. - Suite size is good and cozy for COUPLES ONLY. - Full kitchen (oven, stove, dishwasher, fridge) with all necessary kitchen tools & appliances. - Has TV, mini stereo system - bring our own CD. - Fresh towels daily. Bedsheets and floor were clean. - Free Breakfast (fresh muffin, waffles, fruits, milk, juice and coffee) at 8-10am daily - Friendly staffs. - good reasonable driving distance to DT Tofino and any attractions. Conclusion: As a group, we recommend you to stay away from MBL. For $410/ nite, I highly recommended renting those REAL beachfront cabin. Many of them not only come with fantastic view, outdoor hot tub, BBQ stove, full kitchen, full laundry. Note that NONE of the suit / cabin / room at MBL has real "less than a minute" walk to the beach. IF beachfront is your number one criteria, then stay away from MBL.

Yelp
The best value / experience in the Tofino Long Beach Area. What makes this accommodation different is: the fab views from each and every room and cabin Great walking beaches on both sides of the headland where the lodge is l"perched". the fresh baked (free) breakfast served in a gorgeous glass atrium. Friendly and flexible staff All day fresh coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Fresh baked deliciously decadent cookies baked for all guests every evening. Weekly gourmet sit down dinners The peace and quiet And (our favorite) a huge lobby outfitted with large roaring fire and 7 separate cozy seating areas with blankets and lamps. Made for an afternoon of lazy reading, sipping and snoozing. Really beyond this nothing else matters!

Yelp
Really nice place to stay with an amazing beach view. Soaker tub alone was worth the off season rate we paid. The main lodge felt antique even if it wasn't. A simple but satisfying breakfast was included. Tofino is beautiful.

Ken T.

Yelp
Free cookies? Free Breakfast? This alone should account for 5 stars however, I had to drop it to 4 due to the lack of an outdoor hot tub. Seriously, we have stayed at a lot of places on the west coast of Vancouver Island from Ucluelet to Tofino (never tried The Wikkininish Inn) and this was the absolute best I have found yet. I think I would stay here every time I visit from now on. The main lodge has a great common area with fireplace, games, big cozy chairs, tea, coffee and fruit service. Cookies are served at 8pm on Sunday nights. The restaurant when open for dinner is a set menu and we had the Halibut one night which was quite good. Free breakfast is included and has items such as hard boiled eggs, croissants, cinnamon buns, muffins, bagels, bread, fruit, cheese, ham, yogurt, granola, cereal and juices. I was astounded at the breakfast selection. Often when you get "breakfast included" it is scant and bland. This was an incredible offering. We upgraded to a suite, it had a separate bedroom and a small kitchenette. It was only $35 per night to upgrade and well worth it to us. The room looked due west and the sunsets were fantastic.

Allie W.

Yelp
The sweetest accommodation you could hope for! Our room was very small, but we mostly spent time in the lobby where muffins/coffee/tea are served all day. They have blankets in the lobby as well as lots of comfortable sofas. There is also an entertainment room with movies and board games. The breakfast and coffee is delicious and fresh cookies are served every evening at 8pm. You really feel at home here. 5/5 for this absolute gem!!

Jordan V.

Yelp
Of the three places we've stayed at in Tofino, this is the warmest and coziest, and the best value. We stayed in the Headlands Suite mid-january, and it was nice to be just upstairs from the lounge and lobby while the storm battered the area. And the view over the rocks from the suite is amazing! The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful... very responsive and attentive to our small requests. The baked goods breakfast and evening cookies, as well as the all-day coffee tea + hot chocolate are a nice touch. The one downside is slight uncleanliness... our toilet had an orange tinge in the bowl, the bathtub finish had lost its gloss... and my wife caught a silverfish, but perhaps those are unavoidable on the soggy coast... All in all, a great 4 days in Tofino, in large part due to this wonderful lodge.

L C.

Yelp
A storybook stay! Exceptional service, accommodation, views, complimentary breakfast, and lodge! The staff was extremely positive, friendly, and everyone had happy can-do attitudes! We were beyond impressed with everything! Thank you Middle Beach Lodge, you are a stay we will always have great memories of

Steve M.

Yelp
My wife and i had an amazing two night stay. The single cabin was very spacious and clean. The view is just amazing and definitely the morning walks along the beach very romantic. We cooked a meal in our cabin as the cabin has everything required to do so. Also there is a covered bbq grill area that we used to bbq some fresh halibut which we purchased locally. The continental breakfast is real nice including a great cup of coffee. We would really like to thank one staff member in particular, her name is kristina mitts. She is especially responsible for making our stay a ten out of ten stay. She is very friendly and professional, definitely an asset to the middle beach team Because of her i will be returning very soon. Thanks again kristina.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
One of my favorites stays ever! This Lodge is located in an amazing area... The cabins are beautiful overlooking the ocean! We were lucky to get a reservation last minute due to a cancelation, I recommend you book ahead of time.

Yelp
When in Tofino, Middle Beach is hands down my favorite place to stay. It is good for a romantic getaway or a family trip. I love the cabins that face the water and they are very private with hot tubs on the deck. The cabins have basic kitchens and bathrooms. The cabins sort of look like A frame log design. Years ago, our kids enjoyed sleeping up in the lofted space while we had the first floor bedroom. The main lodge has a breakfast buffet, movies (DVDs) and freshly baked warm chocolate chip cookies every evening. We like to have a glass of wine and play a few games of chess before dinner. The lodge offers dinner a few nights a week. We appreciate the coin operated laundry facilities available to guests. There's a beautiful (Middle) beach right below the lodge and if you need knee high rubber boots they have them in all sizes. This place hosts weddings and sometimes they have all the rooms booked for wedding parties. Some of my best travel memories took place at Middle Beach Resort! I look forward to going back!

Jim S.

Yelp
We just got back from 2 nights at Middle Beach and we loved it. We booked a cabin so we could bring our dog and it was lovely. They put out bowls, a towel and a nice bed for her. The cabin was well equipped, cozy, right on the water. I don't know what you could do to make it better, well okay except for the snow the first night! The lodge is beautiful, there's always coffee and croissants and a roaring fire. And they put out cookies every night. And the free breakfasts are delicious. Unlike a lot other Tofino resorts, at Middle Beach you get a choice of beaches. You can go to one side of the headlands to McKenzie Beach which is huge or you can go to the other side to Middle Beach, which is shorter but was nearly always empty. There doesn't appear to be any access to Middle Beach except for lodge guests. It's like having your own private beach. If you go to Tofino, you're going to enjoy the west coast and I can't think of a better place to stay for the quintessential West Coast Experience.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I spent three days at Middle Beach in late September. At first we tried to book directly with Middle Beach but we were told that the price would be the same as through booking.com, so we used booking.com. There wasn't much choice in rooms, so we ended up with a tiny but comfortable room. Minor issues were worn bedsheets on a too soft mattress with curtains that didn't block out the morning sun. Overall the room was satisfactory. The common area where breakfast and evening fresh baked cookies are served is a big positive, we spent a lot of time there. Staff were friendly. A minor issue was that the road into Middle Beach is only partially paved, which made the drive in pretty dusty. While at Middle Beach we saw their rate sheet which offers a 15% discount for 3 night stays. At checkout we asked why we didn't receive this discount. We were given the name of a person who handles issues, and when we returned I emailed this person. I never received a response to my polite query as to why we didn't receive the discount. I then contacted booking.com, who said they couldn't help, but offered to contact Middle Beach for us. A different person at Middle Beach did respond to booking.com. This person said the discount only applies when booking directly with Middle Beach (which we had tried to do), and that we would have had to ask for the discount (not possible because we didn't know about it until we got to the hotel). This is completely unacceptable, and I doubt if we will return to Middle Beach. They don't respond to queries (not complaints, we just asked about rates). Only giving an advertised discount if the customer asks for it is also not acceptable. There are much better places availabe in this price range, not recommended. Update Nov 21, 2012 - after I posted this review, I sent a link to the review to the Middle Beach customer contact email address. I got an email back apologizing about the rate issue. The person who contacted me asked for my phone number and said he would like to call me and discuss the issue. The person also said that the 15% discount we should have received would be credited to the credit card I used. What a surprise, he never called me, and the 15% was never credited. Not a company I would trust, if you ever have an issue, good luck trying to get it resolved. Update Dec 3, 2012 - They eventually did refund the 15%, it just took a long, long time. Since we liked the accomodation and it was only the post stay customer support that was lacking, I have updated my review to three stars.

Yelp
Highlights of staying at middle Beach Lodge is definitely the incredible View from our sweet. It would appear that this week's are built into the beautiful Forest landscape and Oceanfront right in front of our Suite. That is not to say that you can access the oceanfront directly from the Suites as it is a very steep forested drop in elevation. It looks like they're betting could use upgrades, that is a replacement. I'm sure it was clean, but it was wrinkled as could be. We were not counting on using the sofa bed but it appears that the bed in the suite was but a double size, therefore the most uncomfortable mattress on the sofa bed was used. That led to some uncomfortable nights. But after hiking on Schooners Cove there is nothing like sitting on your veranda enjoying the Sun having your own private view of the Pacific through the beautiful forested area. The breakfast were grand with everything from hard-boiled eggs cheese sliced ham fruits yogurt cereals and of course the mandatory coffee or tea. We enjoyed greatly the delicious BC Style natural foods that were served at supper time starting with although they be minimal in, size and no variety, with an appetizer limit of 4, perhaps given it was a full house. The BC Style fare was delicious. Aside from the halibut that was served by staff, all the other roasted kale salad with nuts and berrys, and more salads and roasted regional vegetables were delicious. Great value for the money! ( Especially when compared to the elite Inn & restaurant in Tofino, where excessive salt as flavour in the main entrees.) Just saying if you are staying as at Middle Beach Lodge, just for a couple of days, sign up ahead of time for supper

Yelp
This hotel has a very nice and peaceful location on the cliffs, right next to the ocean. It also has access to its own ocean beach. The lobby and outdoor areas are very nixe and relaxing, but the hotel is not that great. We had a very small room (#15), which was quiet, yet felt like a two-star experience. In the bathroom we could smell mold, which didn't make use feel like spending anymore time there than necessary. Considering how expensive this accomodation is (like everything in Tofino), I would spend my money elsewhere. Also forget about their hotel dinner. While it's seems great value, the quality of the food was not that great.

J S.

Yelp
Loved everything about it and their unique approach to providing a very comfortable retreat atmosphere. Not formulaic and not a chain Feels like a really nice home. Nice room and my kind of breakfast Dinner night on Wednesday was superb. Best meal we've had in a long time

Jod L.

Yelp
very beautiful setting with beaches on both sides, nicely designed cabins and guest houses-the interior design and furniture is faux craftsmen, quite well done though it can look like a page out of a Pottery Barn catelogue-we stayed in a deluxe suite which had 2 small rooms with full kitchen and a whirlpool bath in the bathroom that can open to the bedroom-it was very lovely with the back door opening up to a charming little hill and cliff over looking the beach-the breakfast was simple but good with fresh baked goods-my criticism would be on service-it was no where to be found-the girls that worked in the reception radiated extreme attitude-everyone working there(except for the handymen) made you feel that the guest were something they put up with

Hugo K.

Yelp
Fantastic place. The view was incredible. The housing was really nice as well. The people were friendly and the food was good, but not great.

Becky C.

Yelp
We stayed here at the end of summer 2010, after spending hours on the Internet trying to choose our accommodations. Did we want a cheap, Ikea-esque apartment in Tofino, a private cabin on the inlet, or a room at the luxury lodges down the western coast? Ultimately we chose Middle Beach Lodge for its mixture of rustic charm mixed with luxury details. We spent more to stay there than we've ever spent to stay anywhere else before (and we've stayed at Ashford Castle and several Fairmont properties, so you know this place ain't cheap). Satisfied with our decision, we set out from Oakland to British Columbia on a 9-day tour of the area - Vancouver, Victoria, Tofino. Tofino was by far our favorite stop on that trip, and a lot of that had to do with our stay at the Middle Beach Lodge. We stayed in the upper right hand deluxe sixplex suite room with a view out over the headlands and the canopy of trees out our living room window. I spent hours on the couch curled up in a soft blanket on the leather sofa reading and just taking time to be quiet and relax. We both have fairly fast-paced and stressful jobs back in the real world - that was the thing we took away from MBL the most: a beautiful place to relax. We spent our days out and about hiking or on the water and our evenings back in our room reading, talking or sleeping. When our three nights were up I was sad to go. We vowed to return someday, knowing that someday could be many years away. Well, when it came time to plan this year's end-of-summer trip we considered many locations - Hawaii, Italy, Spain - and ultimately chose to return back to Middle Beach Lodge. It's not cheap by any means, but it's worth every dollar in my book.

Yelp
Just a couple quick notes before I start my review, If you come here in the winter and are looking for storm watching; be sure to bring your own rubber boots. The ones they show in their video introductions are not there (they do have lots of children's sizes like 2-4). . You will want those boots! The beach walk is just amazing and you will need the boots because the sand fan is so wide and shallow that to walk near the surf in a downpour has you crossing all kinds of variously deep rivulets and sheets of water. Also take note (in case you are a romantic like me) Take note that the wonderful fireplaces in the cabins only burn 'DuraFlame' logs (a synthetic amalgamation of sawdust and sticky flammable concoction that saturates it) They give you two each day and kindly offer more at $5.00 each. The felling is a bit different than a crackling wood fire, but that is my shortcoming in that I can't feel the same way about a real wood fire compared to a DuraFlame log. But the foregoing comparison of flammables has a slight bearing on my review which here with I start!.... We stayed three days at Middle Beach Lodge in Tofino. The 'environment' is excellent.... absolutely stunning. We had an absolutely wonderful time, the place is very special. I am over 50 years old and have traveled extensively, usually on the hard, but occasionally sample elegance and high quality. I had expected this place to hold to the absolutely highest standard of excellence, partially based on the web site and its quality. . This is a place that falls just a bit short of this standard which is an incredible shame. When I see someone or something with the intrinsic ability to reach beyond the pale for greatness.... and they miss.... It is hard to take. Like a subtle flaw in a rare jewel. The standard I pre-envisioned for them was certainly too high. You should take this review with that grain of salt! The main lodge/reception is gorgeously attired in rustic antiques and vintage survey instruments an PNW accoutrements. It is incredibly lovely. It attains a standard of Northwest elegant rustic that would be hardly possible to exceed. We stayed in one of their deluxe cabins and it would have been incredible if they could have carried the same standards of greatness beyond the main lodge and into the Cabins. Maybe that is a lot to ask but certainly not to have hoped for. This is just an aspect of the edge of greatness that they miss and is completely forgivable in light of how wonderful the entirety of this place actually is. Our cabin was just a twenty second walk from the beach down a trail that was lovely to take. The staff was comprised of 20-somthings with an occasional 30 or so old thrown in. Some of the staff were outstanding but... as you might expect.... some were trapped in their lives and forgot to live up to the standards that this place sets. Nothing was wrong with the staff, it's just that a slight change in attitude that typified the sentiment that they were part of something beautiful would have graced their presentations with something that was occasionally missing. I even tried to call them just now before posting this to offer supper kind and constructive idea about how aspects of our stay could have been subtly better., easy changes to make. But the supervisor didn't have the time I was supper nice and positive and I could not even get thru to someone that might have heard what I was trying to convey. This is very emblematic of the subtle issue and attitude shift that they could rise up to and take a step into greatness. The manager is so overworked that she is unavailable to Guests This is a problem for any business that wants to improve. AND this place just misses so slightly that it almost becomes a more potent concern for me that they get there. I so very much wish that you could have spoken with me, Just this side of greatness, John

Yelp
Stayed at Middle Beach Lodge (MBL) in the off-season of March 2011. Tofino is generally extremely expensive, and my boyfriend and I found a great deal of $99/night at MBL with a 2-night minimum stay. We ended up having to stay at the "Beach Lodge" the first night and pay the regular off-season price of $120/night and get transferred to the "Headlands Lodge" just a short drive away. I was initially worried, because we were not to arrive on our first night until just after midnight, but our keys and a welcoming letter were waiting for us at the office door. We had no issues settling in the first night. The room at our first "Beach Lodge" was quite tiny. The bathroom was very small with a sink so tiny that I splashed water everywhere trying to wash my face, and it did not have a proper door- it had an accordion style door. There was also no room for storage. However, we were just so happy to be in Tofino that we did not mind. It's Tofino after all! We could hear the waves crash against the rocks and the rain fall down on the lodge, which was very comforting to hear! In the morning we had a delicious breakfast of baked goods and granola. Coffee and tea is available anytime during the day, which we took much of to-go, seeing as it was cold and rainy our first day, which was used for exploring the area. We easily transferred to the Headlands Lodge the second morning and our room was MUCH NICER. It was much bigger, with a small balcony and sun shining through our room. The bathroom was much bigger and there was ample storage space and a television. Right next to our room was a computer we could use anytime we wanted to email our family at home. The highlight of this lodge is the main room. This room is so cozy and comfy, full of soft couches and a giant fireplace. The view is amazing. You are right on the edge of a cliff (in both the Beach Lodge and Headlands Lodge), and all you can see is the ocean and waves crashing right below the lodge. The staff was very kind and helpful. We had no issues during our stay. Overall, I think staying here in the off-season definitely has its perks. Stay for cheaper, but still enjoy the beauty of Tofino. It was a lot emptier than normal I'd assume which was very enjoyable. It is a great weekend getaway to all those Vancouverites looking to relax and get away!

Yelp
We spent 3 nights at Middle Beach Lodge and enjoyed every minute. We splurged on an ocean view room with a soaker tub, which we thought was worth the high rate. Our room had a 180 degree view of the ocean and surrounding islands The lodge is beautiful and relaxing, and the location of the hotel is convenient. We would definitely recommend Middle Beach Lodge to others.

Yelp
We recently went on a 10 day BC tour which included a 3 night stop in Tofino. We chose MBL given reviews, included continental breakfast and the option for cabins with kitchens (separate space for our 2.5 year old daughter). We were blown away by the beauty of it's location perched on top of a rocky point just steps to two beautiful, HUGE sandy beaches. The views were to die for. The lodge was beautiful, peaceful and inviting, filled with books, board games, cozy furniture, a wood-burning fireplace and hot tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit all day long. The continental breakfast was very filing and surprisingly plentiful with options of: several cold cereals as well as delicious pastries (sinful cinnamon rolls included), fruit, hard boiled eggs, instant oatmeal and juice, coffee and tea. The breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the ocean. Other small perks were the freshly baked cookies every night at 8pm and the large array of rain boots/ponchos for guests to use for beach walks in inclement weather. Lastly, the cabin was perfect. Rustic but elegant with newly updated bathroom complete with LARGE soaking tub (a hit with our daughter). The separate master bedroom was ideal for my husband and I to have a bit of privacy. The loft was great (would've been more useful with older children as it is only accessible by ladder--obviously not possible for a two year old), but we knew this going into it and ended up not using the loft at all. The living room couch folded into a full bed and there was even a DVD player in the living room and a chest of movies that you could sign out in the main lodge. There was a dining room table and small but fully-stocked kitchen all included in a price that was much lower ($170) than the internet advertized price ($240). The staff were incredibly friendly and seemed to really love their jobs. All in all, of our entire vacation, middle beach lodge and Tofino were far-and-away the highlights. We are already planning our next trip and have recommended to all of uor friends/family to stay at middle beach lodge

Yelp
The resturant staff are excellent, thatis why this place gets a star, however management is horrible. We booked a room with an ocean view and got tree view, although it is in the general direction of the ocean. I had to check in3 times, twice because the keys do not work. I paid 260 per night for 2 people for a small room that is not better than what you can get at motel 6. Apologies to motel 6 . When I called to complain about an extreme loud generator noise and fumes, I was given the runaround with no specific answer., eventually they They said that the problem will be solved by 6 pm, I asked for a manger and no one responded . I asked for a room change and was told. Next morning, of course they did not give a different room ( although I did not mind a downgrade ). The mentaliy in this establishment is that of bait and switch, once you book the room they will switch it to an inferior room, claim nothing available although the signs says Vacancy ! Once you complain they never give you an answer, manager never answerd or called back , horrible stay, if you have the misfortune of booking this lodge by mistake, ask for the room number, view and location, make sure you get it in writing, and pray that the manager in charge is mature enough to call you back if there is a problem.......if you have 250 dollars to waste per night or more, you are better off throwing the money away......iata least you will sleep in your own bed, or a room bigger than a closet. Oh, and being adult only lodge as advertised, is only a gimmick, children galore, noise galore . This used to be a decent place years ago, now with new management it is worse than a summer camp. Just horrible front desk, and a manager that does not care. July 2014
