The 13 Best Things to Do in Quito, Ecuador

"The 30-meter-tall Mitad del Mundo monument, built in the late 1970s, marks a celebrated but geographically incorrect 'equator' location discovered to be off once modern GPS measurements were available." - Matthew Kepnes

Octobre 2021. A must-visit place! The views are stunning, the site is very clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The gardens are beautiful. The museums are accessible and take you back through history — with clear explanations that make the experience even richer.

A nice place. Lots to do for an afternoon. Restaurants, shops, a nice Ecuador cultural history in the tower (if you walk up or down, if you take the elevator you miss most of it) ,etc. The people around are quite friendly, helpful and not pushy. There are probably a lot of amenities that I didn’t take advantage of. Parking was three dollars and park entrance was five for an adult (at the park, didn’t check online.) If you google the monument the directions kind of take you off to the side. So you just have to pay attention to the turns as they go into parking. Probably easier to Google the park.

Cool to stand on the equator. The place is very commercialized but it didn’t bother me. I was there shortly after the place opens at 0900. No wait and it felt like I was alone in there. Well worth the $5 entry fee.

You should check this place out; it's a must-visit! There was an insane amount of information to absorb, and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable. I especially loved all the hands-on activities they included for us. It made the whole experience so much more engaging. You won't regret spending your time here!

Its very commercial, the old indigenous replica's of bamboo houses are fine examples of how they were built. The monument is known because its a famous to see where the Equator runs, the museum inside is moderate. If you have enough time to visit..

Is it a tourist trap, yes, but it's the middle of the world, and I'm a tourist. Amazing views and not that crowded, maybe I got lucky, but there were not many people. Got to explore the shops and museums with very little waiting around. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Overall, if you're a tourist, this is a great visit with great views.

It is a must-see if you come to Quito, Ecuador we took the double decker bus with jump on jump off stops. The middle of the world was fun. Great restaurants. Great souvenirs at reasonable prices.

Mitad del Mundo Monument The Mitad del Mundo Monument is a must-see landmark for anyone visiting Quito. Rising above the equatorial line, this monument marks a symbolic ‘middle of the world’ location and offers a rich mix of history, views, food, shopping, and photo opportunities. --- What I Loved Iconic photo opportunities: The large yellow line, the monument structure itself, the views overlooking Quito — perfect for snapshots, panoramas, and drone shots. Amenities & food: There are several restaurants, cafés, and snack stands. Good variety of local food and more international options. Great if you plan to spend several hours. Planetarium & exhibits: The planetarium here is well-done — interactive shows and nice lighting make it a good complement to walking around the grounds. Shops and crafts: Plenty of souvenir shops and artisan stalls. Good for picking up Ecuadorian handicrafts, hats, local textiles. Self-guided strolls: The area is easy to walk around. Paths are clear, there are many vista points. Landscape gardens make for nice video walk-throughs. --- What to Know / Tips Admission is US$5 (a common theme in both places), and it’s worth budgeting 2-3 hours here, especially if you eat or shop. Best visited in the morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat and harsh sunlight in photos. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and good walking shoes. Even though paths are paved in many parts, there are some uneven or steeper stairs. If you like video content, walking through the monument, going up to observation decks, capturing the planetarium show, and filming the food/restaurants are good shots. Wide shots of the monument and of people crossing the equatorial line are very shareable. Overall Verdict For the price and what you get, Mitad del Mundo offers a well-rounded blend of tourism, culture, food, and photo ops. It’s less detailed in terms of science and experiments, but it makes up for that with convenience, comfort, and visual appeal. Highly recommend if you have limited time in Quito and want the iconic middle-of-the-world experience.
