The food here is excellent! I was only in town for one day but I went for dinner and then again the next morning. I got the vegan ruben and didn't think I would like it because I am not a fan of sauerkraut, but it was like melt in your mouth amazing!

Google
MUST try their GF DF carrot cake cupcakes. Amazing. Wait time On food and coffee will Be unreasonably long usually. Sometimes the food is super amazing and sometimes you’ll have to ask them to remake it. We’ve been coming here for 18 years and still love it even when it can be bad sometimes. In anchorage this is my favorite cafe as they have amazing options and the best hot beverages. However: the gluten free cookies and cupcakes and other treats they have are absolutely the best in town. They have different GF treats whenever we go. I love their selection. If only other places had such amazing gf treats. Not sure about their food options. Their matcha latte and coffee are just bomb. Service is either amazing and lovely or some atitude depending on who you get. We usually the the lovely people!

Google
I am sick to my stomach and really hate to write these kind of reviews. I got a breakfast burrito from here this morning and as i was eating it something just tasted REALLY off and spoiled. I looked inside the burrito and immediately realized why as I pulled out a bunch of extremely old & spoiled avocados from my burrito (that I paid almost $22 for) very sad as I am so grossed out, they had to of known they put these avocados in my food as they were making it.

Google
Top 5 favorite spots in Anchorage. Amazing food, great gluten free options that are actually tasty. Live music sometimes, welcoming atmosphere, perfect lunch date spot, great study spot, THE BEST coffee because they serve Kbay coffee 🤤 and offer A2 organic milk,

Google
Nice cafe for a good variety of breakfast dishes and coffee. Self ordering counter but they bring out the food to you. A good place for casual dining. Nice decor with art from local artists that you can purchase as well.

Google
Middle away Cafe is fantastic. In terms of quality and quantity, you get what you pay for and more! In my experience, the food has always been better in-house than to-go order. I can’t say enough about the quality of the food ingredients and the pleasant feeling it leaves on the stomach post gorge. Enjoy!

Google
I’d heard good things about this place but never been. Was not impressed. I ordered the avocado toast and it was like 90% microgreens and had barely any pickled onions. And I asked for sourdough bread and they brought me some kind of multigrain. For $15 I was really disappointed in the construction and lack of flavor. I will say I did not bring up that the bread was wrong because I didn’t want to wait for them to make another order. But yeah, not worth the money. Could make it better yourself at home for cheaper and more flavor.

Amanda Hunter

Google
Food was delicious; the wait time for food was extensive though over 50 minutes from order to food arriving to table. I don’t recommend dining here if you are on a schedule. Fresh organic ingredients, vegan and gluten free options seem to be the big draw.

Yelp
I've come to Middle Way for years, but never written a review. The food is phenomenal. Healthy, fresh and soooo good. Their baked goods are why I come. This cute place is always bustling, but a great place to work on your computer or grab lunch. My favorite is any of the sandwiches, with added sprouts. The carrot cake is to die for!!! The best carrot cake I've ever had! Wonderful service and attentive staff. Lots of GF options

Yelp
We tried their Avocado Toast, souji bowl and tuna melt. Both dishes were fresh and full of flavor and looks appetizing to eat! the avocado toast was creamy and topped perfectly and the tuna melt was satisfying. This is my favorite breakfast place now The atmosphere is super relaxing i actually love it the interiors felt comfortable, they have free lemon water and a great selection of sweets, including cupcakes. I love that it's vegan and gluten-friendly, with plenty of options for everyone. A perfect spot for a chill meal or if you have business meeting.

Yelp
This is a Denver/Asheville/mountain town place. It has a great vibe and lots of food choices. The coffee and water are self serve. You order at the counter and they bring your food. Espresso options, vegan options are available. I would surely go back.

Yelp
Been a little disappointed with how things have turned out price wise and what you get for value. My little English muffin with one egg and a few pieces of bacon for $10! Doesn't even come with anything, home fries would have been another $4.50. I was very surprised that it was basically empty at 8am on a wednesday. On the weekends they used to be very popular, maybe they still are? I paid over $30 for this breakfast sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Meh. Also not interested in their lunch options

Yelp
I'm not a big sandwich-orderer, but I was surprisingly happy with my Mayflower order. Loved the side soup too but would have preferred it to be a little chunkier. The blue corn tortilla chips and salsa were a nice addition. Felt like I was making good, health-conscious decisions coming here :)

Yelp
Best eggs florentine Best eggs Benedict Great soups Best avacado melt Service is a good mix of self and staff. They can be busy. Cause they're good! I prefer off peak times

Yelp
I got a burger here. It was a little dry, but otherwise great. The coffee was excellent. I recommend the white mocha. The food got to my table faster than expected. Great atmosphere. A local folk artist was playing live right behind my table. Would recommend this cafe.

Yelp
Easy order at the counter with the smells of fresh clean eating. The ingredients are fresh and served hot. The place is always packed for lunch. Staff was friendly and helpful when ordering at the counter.

Yelp
I used to love middle way. The quirky quaintness of the place always seemed so inviting. I've never been blown away by the service but my recent visit reminded me why I don't make an effort to go out to each these days. I used to always get the vegan huevos or the colors tofu stack. I like the unique take on breakfast options. What I didn't like was being quoted 20 minutes for a breakfast order then waiting 30, only to get a plate of undercooked hard vegetables (they weren't even full @ 9am). We're talking almost hard to bite into beets and carrots. The quality of the food isn't the same anymore. I'm sorry to say I don't recommend this establishment any longer.

Yelp
Fresh and SO delicious! If you want healthy food in the Anchorage area, this is the place to go. Shepard omelette with goats cheese, sautéed kale side and toasted whole wheat sourdough was an absolute winner. Can't wait to come back and try more! Service is awesome and tons of indoor seating, super cute spot.
google avatar

Yelp
First time in and it's a walk up and order, get a number place. Tons of seating and chill vibe. So many vegetarian and vegan options!!! I had the Waldorf juice and the breakfast burrito (suggestion from a local). My daughter had the breakfast quesadilla with potatoes- incredible! Did I mention the bombass salsa? Holy cow! I LOVE salsa and theirs is amazing. You can tell they care about what they make you. Food is well seasoned and delicious. Huge portions! Service is friendly. We will be back!! Go here!!!!!

Yelp
I am traveling for work and it's hard to find vegan options.. so I was pleasantly surprised to find this cafe. They had two selections specifically tailored for vegans. I got the burrito, it was so big and full of flavor. I also snagged a vegan brownie for the road.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING! They have plenty of gluten free options! I had the Eggs Benedict, and a cold brew coffee and was super yummy! Service was great, really quick. Ambiance is chill, super great for school work!

Yelp
Lovely large café. The middle way was an excellent place to meet someone for a lunch meeting, and has a surprisingly delicious tofu Rubén!

Yelp
I took my dad here for breakfast and it took a lot Longer this time to get our food. We saw people sit down 10 minutes after us and they go their food before we did. Infact they finished before we even got it. I asked 3 times and by the third time i was getting a little upset. I got a hold of the Manager and he went and looked and it came out about 2 minutes later. Well. Mine was wrong and I had to send it back. That took another 20 minutes. Dad was done eating by then. The manager came by and said they are still working on it but let me get you'll some dessert. Dad chose the carrot cake and he wasn't disappointed at all We love this place but the only thing it wasn't as busy as it was the last time. But this time it took a lot longer to be served. We will be back.

Yelp
Big breakfast and lunch place with lots of vegan options. We stopped here on the way to the airport to grab some brunch, as we saw that they have lots of veganizable options. You order at the counter and they bring out your food. My wife got the vegan breakfast burrito ($12.25) and I got the vegan version of the huevos rancheros (whole order: $15.50). Both dishes came out in about 10 minutes. The huevos was solid, coming with a nice black bean and brown rice mixture on fried tortillas, with avocado, vegan sour cream and fried tofu, smothered in red ranchero sauce. Solid enough dish. The bites of the burrito I had were also very nice, which came with spinach, avocado, tofu, potatoes and black beans: somewhat bland but quite hearty and amped up nicely with their hot sauce. Solid spot in Anchorage for a vegan-friendly breakfast/brunch/lunch.

Yelp
This is a fave go-to for breakfast and lunch options, which are always so good they outweigh the oftentimes long wait time. Service is usually very friendly! Baked goods are hit or miss on whether they're dry or not, love the lemon bars.

Yelp
Very busy, trendy, organic restaurant in midtown. First time here and my wife and I are having lunch at 2PM. Estimated 30 minutes for lunch to be ready on a Monday afternoon. Interesting menu with Smoothies, natural organic juices, burritos, sandwiches, soups, veggie bowls, healthy breads, and desserts. Everything is freshly prepared and offers organic and healthy ingredients. Vegan and GF. Lunch for two with a sandwich, bowl of soup, side of steamed Kale and two smoothies just short of $50 bill including modest tip. You review the menu, order at the counter, and receive a number for your table to help the server bring you your order. Please remember your order because our server didn't know which smoothie was mine or my wife's. Next time we will order the same drinks. My wife's Balto was their version of the BLT. You have a choice of sourdough, whole wheat and a honey walnut bread toasted. She chose the the cashier's recommendation as the fan favorite of the sourdough bread. My observation of her munching happily on her sandwich showed an ample amount of properly cooked bacon, fresh lettuce , purple onion and two generous sized slices of fresh tomato , with flavored Mayo dressing. The bread was nicely toasted and held the ingredients without coming apart as she devoured it. She said it was very tasty and well made. It was accompanied by the purple corn chips and a restaurant made Salsa. The salsa was mild and tasted as fresh as if made today. She was very pleased with her meal. I had one of the two special soups of the day. They had a tortilla soup and split pea. I like both but choose the Split Pea. The soup was perfectly made at just the right consistency and flavor. It contained green split peas, carrots, onion and white potatoes . The peas had been cooked so that just a few were still partially visible. The small chunks of carrots and potato were cooked soft and had absorbed the flavor and spices of the spit peas. One of the best Split Pea soups I have eaten in my 76 years. Most are over cooked to a mushy green unappealing slush. This was very far from that! The simmered Kale was very fresh and a brilliant deep green appearance. It was simmered just right without being mushy. It was crisp with a slight taste of the lemon. Very nicely done. The purple organic chips were served with the soup. I would recommend this restaurant as they serve breakfast and lunch with healthy ingredients, vegan and Gluten Free choices. I believe that almost everything they serve is made in house from the freshest ingredients. They accept credit cards. Next time we must try the desserts and baked goodie's.

Yelp
We love Middle Way Cafe and always get the turkey cranberry sandwich. Amazing combination of flavors with the cream cheese, cranberry sauce and cucumbers. We love it! We splurged today and got a GF chocolate peanut butter whoopie pie. It was horrid. I actually spit the bite out and we tossed it. I was so sad because we generally like their cupcakes, lemon bars and cookies.

Yelp
Best Mango smoothie in my life, the bitter ginger at the end. Wow, can have this every day??! I will note, I did ask if every smoothie is gluten free and the girl at the front said, " I don't know what fruits are gluten free." So there's that ...

Daisy M.

Yelp
I dont know where to begin... we stood up waiting to sit down for about 30 minutes. Water had bacteria in it no ice and room temp. After waiting an hour asked the waiter where the food was and our order was forgotten. I haven't had such a bad experience in so long! If I can go below zero I would. If i can give them negative stars I would.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been to MWC and decided with a little extra time between appointments this morning that quiche & a latte would be good. Unfortunately, no quiche... no baked goods in the case for that matter. I quickly looked at the menu to make a new choice on a whim and noticed there were no prices written. I decided on a avocado toast & latte, which came to almost $19! Admittedly I silently said some foul things in my mind and took a seat to wait for my order to go. The service was nice enough... but the latte was merely okay and the avocado toast was simply 'meh', and served with a side cup of fruit. I was expecting so much more for the price, that's for sure... I guess I failed in thinking how I make avocado toast myself and it would surely be extravagant in comparison, I was wrong and disappointed... :(

Yelp
When in Anchorage! My co-workers order from here pretty regularly, I was craving a salad with local salmon and this did NOT disappoint! I ordered the cashew miso salmon but I asked for it blackened with sauce on the side. I also got the wasabi aioli I noticed as a menu item on another dish and WHOA. Pretty sure I licked the cup? Ha. I added photos of my co-workers dishes as well, I didnt try them but I sure wish I had more time to go back there and try other things, their menu is AMAZING. Again feeling the Vermont vibes here, super laid back inside, organic and natural. Great job all!

Yelp
Wait is way too long and food is not worth it! Ambiance is fun though Friendly personnel

Yelp
I just wanted to give a shout-out to Middle Way for showing MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT! This business used to always be out of everything, and they seemed to have fixed that issue. They are my #1 spot to order-in breakfast from. The breakfast quesadilla is high-quality and generously-portioined. They have, without question, the best potatoes I've ever had in Anchorage. If they offered a cooking class for them, I would pay money for it!

Yelp
What a cool cafe. Honestly I was expecting more of a Hobbit theme going off the name...This is the perfect place when you need something that is delicious and fresh. We swung in for a quick lunch and both of us needed to eat, but wanted to keep it on the lighter side. We each got a half sandwich. The southwest sandwich was so clean tasting! All the ingredients were fresh. I'm very happy with the portions, they were just what we need to refuel without overfilling! Definitely check Middle Way out!

Leah B.

Yelp
Grabbed sandwiches here on the way to the airport at a friend's recommendation. Happy with our choice - the sandwich and chips were yummy. Placed order online and called in advance to make sure sandwich was ready when I didn't get a text by the time it was supposed to be ready for pickup. All good!

Yelp
The service was slow the first time we came and very fast the second time! The salmon burger was AMAZING. it was so good that we came back on our way back a couple days later. The burrito was okay, the overall flavor was good but the texture was not my favorite. The staff was great and the overall place was clean and cute!

Yelp
I struggle a little with how to rate this cafe - the food in a vacuum was really good, but we ran into multiple service/logistical issues along the way such that when we finished it felt a little off. So I'm giving it 4 stars because the food is arguably the most important component, but more realistically it's a 3.5. First, the impression I got from the website was that you could order breakfast all day - but in the restaurant there are limited hours. There have clearly been staffing/supply issues hitting all Alaska restaurants recently, but a more consistent messaging would be helpful. Then, when ordering, there was a lot of confusion about ingredients and availability - some lunch items weren't available, and when we tried to make a bowl vegetarian by substituting the chicken for tofu, it ended up being a 5 dollar upcharge (I guess they couldn't substitute it but could only add it?). This is understandable, but we only found out when we looked at the actual receipt while paying. We weren't willing to pay 20$ for a lunch bowl and so ended up needing to get a refund and order another item. Like I said, ultimately when we got our food (an avocado melt and an Azul salad), it was tasty and felt like pretty healthy lunch option. But, if we were thinking of coming back, the ordering chaos would be a factor.

Yelp
I was super excited because this is the first vegan joint in Alaksa that actually looked pretty fire. I ordered - REUBEN SANDWICH: I don't know what I was expecting but... I definitely wasn't expecting this lol. I learned that I'm not really a huge sauerkraut fan & the main ingredient in this sandwich was sauerkraut.. fail. The portion size of this sandwich was huge, definitely lasted till lunch, by that point I took out most of the sauerkraut so it tasted a little better. SPICY KALE LEMONADE JUICE: I loved this! It was too sour and tasted like only lemonade to be honest but it was super tasty. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Quick service, the employee was accommodating and answered all our questions. Excited to be back to try more of their food!
google avatar

Judelyne C.

Yelp
Four stars only because when you walk in, their menus are on a table a few feet from the order counter. A group of customers congregated there to view the menu. I can see this being an issue if we came at a a much busier time because it conflicts with the line flow. Not a huge issue - just something to note. As far as the food goes, oh my god was it delicious! They're breakfast potatoes are so yummy and probably the best i've ever had in Anchorage! The portions are a great size and the price for their food is reasonably priced. I got the mexican benedict, a fun and creative play on a traditional benedict. It's a delicious and filling dish that's got a serious kick! I think the best part about this is that it comes in either a whole or half option. Seriously consider the whole though because if you don't finish it, you can take the rest home. Trust me when I say it travels well and tastes just as good! The service was amazing and the food got there so quick! We also got their Mango Tree smoothie and that was super refreshing after our night out.

Yelp
This has been my go-to lunch and takeout spot for about a decade. There have been a few price jumps over the years, but the latest $4 jump for a sandwich has lost me. Just had my last avacado melt. :(

Heather S.

Yelp
Waited over 45 for our food I had to finally go ask where are food was...they finally brought it out 10 minutes later. They didn't even cook one of our meals so the 5th person had to wait even longer for them to cook his meal. While we ate. They left my breakfast burrito in the window so long it was soggy and inedible the eggs in it were burnt potatoes were raw. On a up note the refunded our meal. Was EPICALLY disappointed as it was a family meal to celebrate that turned ugly due to poor service and excuses...normally thier food is epic ...pretty sure we won't be returning anymore...

Yelp
Great services! Great food! Made food without salt , but great seasoning! Happy with friends and family there!

Yelp
This is my first time eating here. I love the healthy food choices. I have lots of food sensitivity issues and found a wide selection that I could eat. The bakery is just as appealing as the menu! I will definitely recommend and return here.

Yelp
Big menu, big servings, veggie options, bustling ambiance. Ate there 4 times during a week's visit.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is really good for sandwiches and coffee. I ordered the avocado melt added turkey and wow, tasty and loaded. The salsa with chips was equally as good. They are short staff but it's nice that they warn you ahead of time before you order on wait times. The white chocolate mocha is perfect, not to sweet.

Yelp
This place is one of the Best places in Anchorage, it has the best food, great atmosphere. Great employees, healthy healthy food, avocado toast, you know, it's all the rage and more, but they also do a few little quirky things with it, which I think is absolutely wonderful, really delicious food prices are reasonable along with a juice bar coffee bar, anything that you can imagine and substitutions are welcome.
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
This place is pretty good. Would say you have to go later in the day for it to be a bit peaceful. And get your order quicker. They have a nice huge breakfast and lunch menu. The coffee is always good and the juices and smoothies are always a plus. I got the Mexican Benedict and it was pretty huge. There's just enough spice and flavor. The potatoes were nice and soft. And there was a bit more avocado than I expected. The avocado toast was a bit brown. And very little avocado. The oatmeal is pretty good. Overall I would say go on a later or earlier time. Cause lunch time does get a bit hectic.

Yelp
My friend and I found this place courtesy of a google search as we needed a respectable place to eat breakfast with only a day to spare in Anchorage. So, upon arriving we waited in line and looked over the offerings - which were posted both above the checkout counter as well as on menus. The setup is a bit atypical here, as you first place your order at the counter and are then given a number, after which you select any table you like and wait for your food to be brought out. Although the menu options were abundant, I settled on a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs, avocado, and provolone cheese on an English muffin). The coffee was a quality roasted Ethiopian variety that included free refills, and the breakfast sandwich was quite satisfying, although a bit small. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations and provided appetizing fare to start the day!

Russell F.

Yelp
By far the best place I've eaten in town I go here for the Mexican Benedict. It's the best.

Yelp
We came to Middle Way about a month or so ago. They said the wait was 40 minutes, but they were closing in 40 minutes. A patient recently hyped up how amazing Middle Way is - so we came for lunch today. I got the Turkey cranberry on sourdough - in retrospect I wish I asked for light/No cream cheese; it was super overpowering. I also got the side salad with miso cashew dressing - it was a large size and tasty. I had salsa as well, which was the best part. Very similar to what I make at home. My husband had the tuna melt - he loves tuna melts but unfortunately didn't finish it just due to personal preference (the over abundance of celery to tuna. He doesn't like celery too much). Overall, the food was average
google avatar

Brett B.

Yelp
First. The food is good. I actually have no complaints at all with the food.... When you get it. The issue is getting to the point where you get your food. The service here is lacking. If you're looking to get talked down to by passive aggressive employees, you're going to love it here. I genuinely don't understand how they are as busy as they are. The employees give zero cares about their job, zero cares about their customers, and zero cares that is locals keep this place alive in the winter time. Every time I come back here I remember how much I dislike it. Today is the straw that broke the camels back. It looks like there needs to be more competition for this place, maybe it's time i step up and make it happen to put the final nail in the coffin that is middle way cafe.

Yelp
Just the best place ever for some tasty breakfast/brunch. I am never disappointed. Overall friendly staff and delicious food. Smoothies, coffee, chai, gluten free options... Middle Way is my go to!

Yelp
I wish that I had out a positive review back the several times I had positive experiences. This 3 star rating was an average of this review compared to previous positive experience. I was excited to take my friend here, usually one of my favorite places, I haven't been here in awhile. The person who took our order took a very long time. We just missed breakfast and so we ordered sandwiches, but soup wasn't ready. I ordered and explained I didn't want chips. My friend ordered the tuna sandwich and asked for a side salad. She explained no chips. She was told she could not do a half order. I revised my order and added a salad. We both got our order after waiting a little longer than usual. We both had chips and salad. Her sandwich was an open face tuna melt, 2 of them, why couldn't she get a half order? What really bothered me is plastic silverware. I don't remember plastic utensils last time I was here. Why I'm the world is a restaurant as nice as this serving food with plastic cutlery? It's nice to go but that really struck me as odd. I'll probably go again as the food was delicious as usual.

Yelp
Went by today for the breakfast. I wanted to be impressed. I was excited to try ANNDDD... meh. Presentation was perfect. It looked delicious. And some parts were. The chorizo was flavorful. The salsa verde was delish. The eggs were poached very nicely. The bread was barely toasted. There was only one tiny spot with just a light brown mark. It wasn't "toast." Bitter wouldn't even begin to melt. Sad face. Ever been to the beach and dropped your water bottle in the sand? You dust off the cap and the bottle and you think you're free of sand but when you go to drink, you inevitably get a little CRUNCH in your mouth? That's how the potatoes were. They weren't crispy so that's not the crunch. And it happened in three or four bites. Just weird. Ambiance and service were on point. The coffee was fresh and flavorful. All employees were very friendly.

Brenda B.

Yelp
Family favorite! Always on the restaurant tour with our daughters when they come home to visit and on our lunch takeout list when we are busy with work.

Yelp
I may have left a prior review about 3 years ago, but I just visited Anchorage (March 2022) and am happy to see that Middle Way is surviving Covid and is still as awesome as before. My review is for breakfast only - the omelet and pancakes were delicious. The coffee and espresso as well. This is an great place to try as an alternative to pricey and stale hotel meals.

Yelp
Good food at aggressive prices. Worth every penny. Ingredients are always fresh. Breads are delicious and fresh. Soups are actually made in house! Salad dressings are also. Tables turn fast so do not mind waiting for a few moments to sit. Variety is plenty. The owners know their business and stick to it. No belief they can conquer all segments of the culinary arts world. This is a wonderful quick lunch place.
