Punishment Book at Jameson Distillery – Midleton, Ireland - Gastro Obscura

"At the Jameson Irish whiskey distillery in Midleton, Ireland, archivist Carol Quinn shows visitors the “Punishment Book,” a listing of employee infractions (such as smoking) and associated penalties (usually withdrawal of the daily liquor ration). In times past, employees at Jameson’s Distillery were given a shot of whiskey when they came to work and a shot of whiskey before they left. Breaking company policies meant losing those morning and afternoon alcohol allotments. “During the era of the Punishment Book,” Quinn explains, “most adults smoked, and of course that was dangerous where you had so much raw whiskey maturing in oak barrels, all very flammable! Management had to be very vigilant about illicit smoking, though drinking on the job comes in a close second. But the most dangerous offense was stealing whiskey and removing it from the premises. In that instance, you aren’t just cheating the distillery, you’re cheating the Inland Revenue too, a much more serious thing, as they had the power to shut down operations if they thought whiskey was being removed without duty being paid. The main punishment was to stop your ‘grog,’ the two free glasses of Jameson each employee was entitled to every day, for a period of days or, in the worst case, a fortnight.” In many ways, cutting off whiskey rations was a much kinder punishment than, say, docking an employee’s pay. “This is at a time when most women did not work outside the home,” Quinn explains. “The husband or father was the main breadwinner, and families depended on his wage. Cutting pay didn’t just affect the employee, it levied a punishment on the family. Stopping a person’s individual ration of free whiskey was a much more effective deterrent.” The distribution of morning and afternoon slugs of product was also practiced at other distilleries and breweries. Such liquid perks no doubt kept employees in tune with the fruits of their labor and perhaps further motivated them to cheerfully put in a good day’s work. Know Before You Go Contact the distillery for tour times and related details." - David Hammond

My husband's grandparents worked here so the connection and their family name are literally etched into the heritage of this monumental distillery. I always come here to pay my respects and celebrate the homage when I visit Cork as it's such an enriching experience to learn how they cultivate, making the whisky embedded in the history of Ireland and Irish whiskey. The distillery in Midleton is only accessible by car or booking a tour on the bus, but it's well worth it. There are great local restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops close by The distillery also has a great coffee shop and restaurant, the food was also really delicious. The shop is spectacular. I personally love viewing all the other whisky labels and so much more comes out of this distillery including Jameson. I also love how they make their own gin through the method and madness label. The bar is exquisite a perfect way to savour the experience of having a drop anyway you like. The tour is well worth it as you get to learn the entire process. And the people that tell their story about The distillery are very passionate and knowledgeable. Very engaging with the tour group. This is an absolute must to visit.

This is my fifth visit to Midleton (one time at Bow Street) and it never disappoints. My personal favorite tour is Behind the Scenes Tour simply because of the final stop in the distiller’s cottage. Such a rare chance to view it from the inside while enjoying a special dram. Mike was our tour guide, and the second time we’ve had the happy luck of getting him again! He did an amazing job of walking us through the process, while showing us around the iconic distillery. I’m always impressed with the entire staff experience, from the ticket takers who greet you, to the bar staff who make your selected drink at the end of the tour. Will be back again with yet another group of family and friends

Google
Did the behind the scenes tour with Joe. Joe was a fantastic guide and the tour was amazing. Best distillery tour I've done. Highlight of the tour was drinking Barry Crockett legacy in Barry Crockett's house. However it would have been nice to sample some distillery exclusive whiskeys.

This is a tour that puts others we have done in the shade. Forget Heineken, Carlsberg or Guinness. Vinyards from California to New Zealand or Bordeaux are all of a muchness (our wine is unique, our wine is limited edition, our vines are old etc etc - only the accents change). Our tour guide John was brilliant. Knowledgeable, personable, humorous and eloquent. Being a Manchester United fan was just a bonus. At no point were we bored, on the contrary, we were educated in the ways of distilling spirits in contrasting ways, the aging and of course, the tasting process. Wear a waterproof or bring a brolly, to access the various building on site it is necessary to cross courtyards. Free parking outside, all visitors made to feel extremely welcome. Whiskey tasting is great and the cocktail at the bar in the café after the tour was a revelation. Highly recommended.

Google
The tour at the Midleton Distillery Experience was amazing! It was very interesting to learn about the history of the distillery, and to see the processes. This is where the Jameson Irish Whiskey is made, and we sampled three different kinds of whiskey. They had some nice samples for sale to take home too. I highly recommend a visit to the Midleton Distillery Experience.

Google
Really impressive visit. We did the premium tasting session and tour. Very interesting to see the history, how they make the distillate, and transform it into tasty Irish whiskey.

Google
If I could give Midleton Distillery 10 stars I would. We booked our tickets online but they were over booked. The staff, all of them were the nicest people we ever met. They was never a question of come back another time, it was always let us sort this for you. I have never had such a day. All they staff were absolutely fabulous to deal with. Adam sorted our tickets and everyone was so friendly. Def going back again. I haven't even mentioned the excellent recommendation by our tasting guide, sorry can't remember his name, a lovely French gent. He recommended method and madness whiskey after and we absolutely loved it.

Google
We knew nothing about whiskey and are not even whiskey drinkers, but we were curious about how it’s made, and this tour did not disappoint. Our guide, Amboise, was fantastic, bringing the whole experience to life with passion and humor. The distillery itself is stunning, with a fascinating story behind it. Even if you're not a whiskey fan, this tour is absolutely worth it.

Yelp
I learned so much about the Jameson brand and the whiskey-making process during the Midleton Distillery Experience. The hour-and-fifteen-minute guided tour takes you behind the scenes of the 200-year-old facility, with stops at the grain store, mill house, and maturation warehouses. Along the way, you'll see the massive iron water wheel that once powered the mill before steam engines took over, as well as the largest pot still in the world, both impressive highlights. The tour wraps up with a tasting of three whiskeys. Ours included Jameson Original, Redbreast, and Green Spot. It's a great way to experience the range of flavors and styles Jameson has to offer. You also get a drink voucher to use at the on-site bar, which is conveniently attached to the gift shop. I'd recommend this tour not just to Jameson fans and whiskey enthusiasts, but also to history lovers and anyone interested in Irish craftsmanship. It's a well-paced, engaging experience that combines tradition, storytelling, and flavor in a beautifully preserved setting.

Yelp
Such an awesome experience at the Middleton Jameson distillery. It's about an hour tour that breaks down the history of Irish whiskey & the founder John Jameson who was actually a Scottish lawyer. They have a huge wall of Irish whiskey that has a trap door that leads into a theater before the walking tour begins. The tour ends with a whiskey tasting as well. And then you get a drink voucher to try one of their cocktails. Great experience overall, great service, our tour guide was awesome, would recommend!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this tour at Jameson. The guide was so great and it was fun learning about how the whiskey is made. You get to walk around the property, taste test and at the end receive a fabulous drink. I went with the Jameson with ginger ale and lime. I'm not normally a whiskey drinker, but it was delicious! It was a cool place to visit!

Yelp
*Pro tip - Do not go to the actual distillery, you need to go to the Jameson Experience and make sure the directions take you through town and when you arrive it should be a old building with obvious signs you are at a touristy place. Our GPS took us to the actual Midleton Distillery where they brew their whiskey today. Our tour was at 16:45, we were already going to be a few minutes late, but when we arrived and saw a bunch of workers also leaving, we knew that something wasn't quite right as we approached the modern building. One worker noticed straight away that we were tourists and directed us to where the tours were actually at. He was very kind and helpful! When we finally arrived, we were more than 15 minutes late and shared our apologies. The hosts were so nice and said it happens all the time and we hadn't missed too much because the tour was about 90 minutes long anyway. We got a quick behind-the-scenes walk through the property and joined up with the group. Funny enough, after a few minutes, another group joined us (undoubtedly in the same predicament that we were in). The tour was REALLY good, we learned about the history of the building and the process specific for making Jameson, as well as their other whiskeys and spirits. The buildings we went into were either brand new or original. When we visited I'm August 2023, they were in the middle of a restoration and expanding their existing operations (see pictures). There was a lot of construction cones, signs, etc. but when we got there most of the workers had left for the day. We saw the distillery copper pots and their new testing/experimental facility that they use to train 2 apprentices a year. Towards the end of the tour, they took us to the barrel room and it was pretty cool to see how they store hundreds of barrels of whiskey. Our guide, Brian was excellent at engaging the group and keeping the excitement in his tone throughout his presentation. He told us that the whiskey evaporates at 2% a year, and since by Irish law, they have to let it age in a barrel for at least 3 years, they automatically lose 6% of whiskey to the "Angels" (the happiest Angels that there is). He was able to show us, using barrels with a clear front panel how much each barrel loses over time. He also had jokes about the cows and pigs being the happiest in Ireland because they get the leftover barley and hops. The tasting was also very good, as they provided a half-shot of American whiskey and Scotch whiskey as comparison to the Jameson Irish whiskey. He had us pause and consider the notes (smell and taste). Lastly, they dropped us off at the tasting room/bar and gift shop and we could have a Jameson drink (and pay for extra if we wanted). While we sipped, our bartender Joe was very nice and told us how Brian is the sansay of tour guides, has taught them all and is quite good at what he does. We also got to talking with another bartender, Conor and he gave us some recommendations for places in town that we could visit for dinner. Overall, we really liked this experience and even after a long day, it was one of our favorite tours we've ever done for beer/whiskey! For more recommendations and tips from our Ireland trip... Yelp
A very enjoyable stop. And the most engaging and knowledgeable guide. We compared whiskeys, aka whisky's, at the end Jameson, Johnny Walker black and Jack Daniels 7. We liked the Jack best but all were different and delicious. Highly recommend. Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
Very nice tour and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. He was great at explaining the different steps and answering questions. The ambiance really took you back to the past.

Yelp
Fun excursion off a cruise shop. A one hour tour of the distillery begins in a lovely setting. Enter through the gift shop.

Yelp
We did the Distiller tour. Very nice. Don't get why you have to wear the jacket and eye wear. That's a big over the top. I will also say i wish they would of had a tasting comparing all the different whiskeys. It was disjointed. I loved the final tasting in the barrel. Our guide was great. It's a must visit. But you need to change up the distiller tour. Let everyone taste mult whiskeys in a row so you can taste the difference.

Yelp
5 STAR tour. Definitely not a tourist 'trap' but a tourist 'MUST!'. Very cool tour, tastings and gift shop

Yelp
Had a lovely tour guide. The tour was very informative. Enjoyed comparing Irish, Scottish, and American whiskey(Jack Daniels). The old historic buildings were very interesting. The brass pots, huge water wheel, and steam engine(for power) were stunning. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Yelp
Awesome experience. Great Staffa d very informative. Got a special bottle that we poured of the barrel for my son. What's not to like. Liked the tasting too. Very busy. Make reservations way in advance.

Yelp
Came here with my diehard Jameson-drinking fiancé for a tour after visiting the original location in in Dublin, had a great time! Great tour with a friendly and enthusiastic guide. I recommend arranging ahead of time to purchase a bottle here labeled with your name on it or one for another super fan, makes a great souvenir!

Yelp
My group chose the Jameson Middleton Distillery Experience as our tour and we were glad we did! It was incredibly educational and we had tons of fun!

Yelp
This is a must-do trip, if you're in or near Cork. If you're in Dublin, check out the Jameson's Experience there. I've taken the tour at the Midleton facility 3 times because I've been with people who hadn't been there and I highly recommended a visit. Every trip was great! The tour is fun. I've done the premium tasting each time too. I think it's well worth the money for the premium tasting session. I HIGHLY recommend going to the Jameson Experience!

Yelp
Wow! What a great experience!! 5 stars all the way!! Even if you are not a fan of Whiskey it's a great tour. The history behind the making of Whiskey and how the USA influenced Whiskey Sales in Ireland. We learned that filtering 3 times is the key to smooth Whiskey. The tour itself was very interesting and we were awestruck at the process of making Whiskey. The tour is of the older plant that is not in production except for some testing that's done on recipes that were discovered in the archives. The actual production lines are next door in a modern factory this is the only factory that produces Jamison and it's brands. At the end you get to compare a Scot h Whiskey, Jamison and Jack Daniels. I am not a Whiskey lover but I liked the Jamison and then the Jack Daniels came in 2nd. What's interesting is that the Jack Daniels is filtered once and it tasted good. You end the tour in the bar where they serve you Jamison on the rocks or a Jamison with Ginger-ale and a lime. In the gift shop they offer the ability to bottle your own Jamison Whiskey and put a label with your name on it. This Whiskey is 120 proof and my husband loved it. This was a FIVE STAR Experience and I highly recommend that you take the time to visit the Jamison Distillery.

Yelp
You can't come to Ireland and not do a tour of the Jameson distillery! So much thought goes into making these delicious bottles of goodness! We had purchased the regular tour. We definitely enjoyed the experience, but it did run a little long for our taste. The best part about it? The "free" liquor at the end of the tour! I also did want to mention that they do offer a taste testing between three different spirits: American, Scottish, and of course Irish. The store offers a plentiful array of different Jameson branded things, but the most important is the liquor! I purchased a bottle of the Crested and the IPA. I am from the United States, so when you do purchase alcohol, make sure it's something you can fit in your check-in luggage. They also do provide the paper version of the tax form there too.

Yelp
I was so excited to visit the Old Midleton Distillery when I was planning my Ireland trip! Pulling up to the building the first thing you see is the giant copper still! Walking into the lobby she see all this Jameson memorabilia and history on the walls and in cabinets. The Jameson experience is 20 euros for an adult and includes a short film about the history,a tour throughout the distillery and a complimentary glass of Jameson...well worth it! The tour starts off with a film about the Jameson history...it was short and informative. Then our knowledgeable tour guide walked us through the Jameson triple distillery process by going into different buildings, warehouses and the Micro- Distillery. Lot's of great photo oppuritinitys. This tour has up to 35 people in it, not everyone gets to do the comparative tasting of three whiskeys, Jameson, Johnny Walker Black and Jack Daniel. They ask for volunteers ... i raised my hand with lot's of excitement and enthusiasm... and was selected right away! It was great comparing each whiskey... the Jameson is so much smoother then the other whiskeys. The tour ends in the onsite bar area to collect your complementary glass of Jameson... i went with Jameson and ginger, cool and refreshing! I also had an irish coffee here... so good! There is also a store here to get all sorts of Jameson items. I bottled my own black barrel cask strength Jameson... great experience! I got to put the whiskey in, cork it, fill out the labels and place them on the bottle! I also purchased a regular bottle with a limited edition label. I could of spent the entire day here!

Yelp
It was okay. Definitely not as good as Bushnell's. Their gift shop needs more options too. But the tour was pretty good. Our tour guide was informative and we saw some cool things. The tasting part of the tour was the favorite for many in my group.
google avatar

Yelp
On our trip around Ireland, we were able to experience two different Jameson tastings, one in Dublin and the other here in Midleton, County Cork There is nothing better than taste testing whiskey. Here too, they give you the three options of Jameson, Johnny Walker Black and Jack Daniel. All of which seems like a fair fight, until you actually get to the tastings. Most, including ourselves never finish the competition. I believe no one does, actually. Irish Whiskey is tripled distilled. The other major positive for us, was our introduction to Barman extraordinaire John. Wow, what a class act and wonderful guide to all things whiskey. As we were waiting for our tour to begin, we struck up a conversation on the correct way to make Irish Coffee. Heehe, I know what UR thinking. The key element is to start with a hot water heated glass, before you pour in the coffee and not to heat the cream directly. See photos This is Five Stars all the way and a must, if UR in County Cork.

Yelp
Certainly put this on your Ireland trip itinerary you don't want to miss this landmark!! I'm happy I was able to visit and enjoy all they offered! I just so happened to visit the Jack Daniel's Distillery (Lynchburg, TN) in Aug 2017 and now 7 months later visited the Jameson Distillery (Midleton, Cork) in April 2018 so my review/opinion is pretty much a comparison -- hence the three stars. I found the Jack Daniels (JD) experience better - not just saying that because I'm American but because truly that tour and tasting was 10x better. At JD you have an option of choosing three different types of tours ranging from $15-25 - I did the Angel's Share ($25 for 90 min) which offers a tasting of their select whiskeys. At Jameson Midleton, Cork there is only one tour w/ one glass of traditional Jameson offered a the end. This is 20Euros for 75 min tour. The JD tour involves a tour of the work facility! You can see the pots the bubbling, the filtration, the smells, the sights, and everything!! It was so much cooler. Jameson has a lot of history and it's campus is very scenic and well kept as well but it's not alive like JD which I think made ALL the difference for me. The real working facility of Jameson was right there next door but tourist can't see that. The tour guide at Jameson was a bit robotic so it didn't stir up the same enthusiasm and furthermore since JD was the first whiskey distillery I visited it's already a little biased in my mind. However with all that being said, I think Jameson has to the scope to really improve and make their experience even more inviting and exciting! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the visit and I would encourage everyone to visit their Midleton location - it's a lovely area!! (but I also encourage you to visited Jack Daniels too in TN if you can!!) lol

Yelp
If you are in the Cork /Middleton area this is an absolute must! Being from KY I've done many bourbon tours this one is near the top! Beautiful facility, knowledgeable guide, great restaurant gift shop I just can't say enough good things! I recommend getting an Irish coffee to take in the tour with you
google avatar

Tammy P.

Yelp
This was a must stop in Cork. We are big fans of Jameson whiskey and have bought their Midleton Whiskey which is limited production and quite expensive but well worth it so when we knew we were going to be in the area there was no question of taking a tour. The tour gave us a great idea of the distilling process and history of Jameson. We had a great tour guide and I had the chance to volunteer for a taste test. Of course Jameson won. At the end of the tour you can order either a shot of Jameson or a Jameson and Ginger Ale. Unfortunately our tour was running late so had only a short time to shop in the gift shop. We ran out of time to get the Whiskey tasting certificate at the end which I was disappointed. It is a great experience so if you love whiskey and you love Jameson it is worth the visit.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
There are two Jameson locations, but the one here in Midleton is the only one that produces the whisky. The town itself is very small and this is probably their main attraction, but I found it to be quaint. Now on to the whisky... You cannot tour these grounds on your own, you need to sign up for a guided tour that begin pretty promptly. It's fairly long and there is a lot of walking involved so just be aware. The story behind the distillery itself was pretty amazing, and I felt privileged to be able to walk on grounds that held so much history. This is where they've produced Jameson whisky for the past few hundred years and they've weathered many hardships such as wars and prohibition. You get to see the historical equipment that was used to produce the whisky, none of the modern equipment that is used today. They walk you through the whisky making process from start to finish so you get a good idea of how labor intensive it really is. At the end of the tour you get a blind whisky tasting between three different popular brands which included Jack Daniels, Johnnie Walker, and Jameson. I liked Johnnie Walker best which surprised me because I never really gave a damn about Scotch but now I'm intrigued. At the very end you can redeem your ticket for a drink, I don't recall what all of the choices were, but the most popular was a Jameson with ginger ale and lime. The gift shop offered a nice selection of trinkets and special reserve bottles that you can't find elsewhere. Apparently Redbreast is now owned by Jameson's so you can pick up some here. It was a nice tour overall and I'm sure it's a must for Jameson enthusiasts, but it is a bit out of the way.

Yelp
Enjoyed the tour and the tasting. We did the hour tour which was enough for us novices and gave me a great respect for the distillation process and what Jameson is about.

Yelp
Service - 5 Value - 5 Tour - 5 What a great experience to tour the Jameson Distillery in Middleton... The behind the scene tour is well worth the money. It was the highlight of our trip. To have tastings along the way and sit in the house of Barry Crocket and drink Middleton Barry Crocket in his living room, was a great experience. I would definitely take this tour again and enjoy the tastings along the way. Well worth the money and the people on th tour said the same thing.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
This was definitely a great experience! I love to learn how the tour walked you through the steps in how Jameson came to be. Put this experience on your bucket list while in Ireland!
google avatar

Dominick R.

Yelp
An absolute great experience. My wife and daughter took the tour this week. We were one of about eight people in the first tour group of the day which made it practically a private tour. Our guide (Adam) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. At the conclusion of the tour, we got to sample three different types of whiskey, one of them of course being Jameson. Before this tour, I thought all whiskeys were the same. Afterwards, I'll take the triple distilled, single pot goodness of Jameson hands down. Awesome time - well worth the money. If I visit Ireland again, I'd definitely take the tour again.

Yelp
Great experience. Whisky tasting in the end . American single distilled , scottish double distilled and Irish triple distilled. Very knowledgeable tourguide.

Yelp
The Jameson experience in Middleton was a great and interesting tour. Brian was our behind the scenes tour guide and he showed us a grand time. He was very knowledgeable and the tour had a lot to see. There were 3 whiskey tastings throughout the tour. Grand experience for our entire group. it is a must do.

Yelp
The Old Midleton Distillery is such a great time. They have a tour--take it. You will learn all about whiskey and Irish whiskey in particular. If you are with someone who does not drink that is great because they allow a lot of tasting there. I drank cola, while my husband tried every single whiskey they had. To say the least he took a wee nap in the car after while I drove back to our hotel. They have whiskey you can only get at this distillery. It is not a truly working distillery, but it is informative and a great time. The staff is wonderful. Have lunch before you go. They gave a cafe, but their wheelhouse is the whiskey so stick with that. If you don't have a good time, I suggest there is something wrong. Chill and enjoy. You are in Ireland.
google avatar

Don L.

Yelp
This was really a fun spot you tour the old/original buildings in Midleton. The guide was fun, clear and informative. The property is beautiful. You get a high level view of the history and process augmented with some films. They don't actually make anything in these buildings anymore, but you definitely get the idea. The comparison tasting with Scotch, American whiskey and Jameson's was very nice. And it does not count as your free drink. Definitely a great visit if you are in the Cork area
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Absolute must if you are near Cork, Midleton or even Cobh. This is where Jameson is currently produced. The experience is just that, and experience. Not just a tour. You will learn so much. The tour guide walks you through the process of Jameson, from birth to currently. We learned all about the history of things. How things were done before modern technology. It is a walking tour, but not strenuous walking, and someone in our group was in a wheelchair, and had no problems getting around. We were able to taste Jack Daniels, Scotch, and Jameson, and compare the 3. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed Jameson more than Jack Daniels. I am a Jack drinker...but not anymore. Jameson is so much smoother and easier to drink neat. We learned exactly how to taste it too. Included in your admission ticket, is a ticket for a free drink at the end of the tour, where you end in the bar. You can either get a Jameson on the rocks or Jameson and ginger ale. I left with a whole new appreciation for Jameson Irish Whiskey, and my new favorite drink is Jameson with ginger ale and lime. We ate at the restaurant as well, which was fantastic! And since I booked our experience tickets online, I was able to add a lunch ticket too and it included a free alcoholic beverage, as well as saved me like $4 each. The menu changes daily, but everything I saw on different tables looked fantastic. Everyone is so kind and friendly at Jameson as well! We also bottled our own whiskey in the gift shop, and signed a register that will be there forever!

Yelp
If you're looking at this, you're probably trying to determine what to do in the Cork area. Look no further! The Jameson Experience was one of the best things we did on our 14 day Euro vacation. We have the most memories from this place, and also have a few bottles to remember it. It's an overall great experience, even if you arent a whiskey drinker. I highly recommend doing this tour, then purchasing a few bottles after. There are several whiskeys that they sell that you cannot get in the states.

Yelp
The Jameson Experience is a fun place. I have been to the Jameson museum in Dublin and the Midleton experience is much better. It is fun to learn about the Jameson history while walking through the old distillery. At the end you get a free sample of Jameson but the group I was with also signed up for a premium tasting which included 5 more whiskys produced by Jameson. They also have a nice shop where you can purchase whisky at more than Duty-free costs. There are only 2 bottles that they have in the shop that you can only get there. Overall, a fun place to visit with family or friends.

Sheryll H.

Yelp
Super fun and informative. Had a cool Jameson cooler, too!! Our guide was amazing gal, too!

Yelp
Whiskey lovers...don't pass this one up! The Jameson Distillery is located in Dublin & Midleton, County of Cork. We decided to stop by the Midleton location on our Ireland trip as we are more crammed for time in Dublin. The regular tour is 22 euros and includes a behind the scenes tour of the grounds. Additionally, you try three different types of whiskey (Irish, American & Scotch) and get a voucher for a free Jameson drink at the bar when you're done. Definitely a must on an Ireland trip!
google avatar

Sabrina L.

Yelp
The Jameson experience was 100% worth the money spent. To tour the operating Jameson distillery is about 1200 euros and 48 hours, I believe, so $68 is pretty reasonable priced. They give a nice overview and tour of the Jameson making process and end the tour with a whiskey tasting of Scottish, American, and Irish (Jameson) whiskey. Each whiskey was apparently the best selling from each country. Jameson blew the other two out of the water. Our tour also came with a free drink. I got the Jameson with ginger and lime but the black barrel on ice for an extra five euros was definitely worth it. We also had a few flights for around 10 euros, on average. Overall, an absolutely wonderful experience.

Loved this tour! Well worth the price of admission. It's a fun experience and very informative and even a bit interactive. At the end you can volunteer to do a taste test of Scotch Whiskey, Irish Whiskey, and American Whiskey and employ all you've learned to distinguish between them all. (It's not a test though, they tell you which one is which- no pressure!) There is also a Jameson drink awaiting you at the end in the bar. The gift shop is cute too and you can opt to blend your own whiskey if you're looking to significantly lighten your wallet for a one-of-a-kind souvenir. Definitely recommend this tour while you're in Midleton. Then afterward, walk a couple blocks and have lunch or dinner at Farmgate!

Yelp
Most damn fun you will have on any whisky tour. As others have said, even if you have been on tours in the US, this is so worth the time. Freeway close and plenty of parking. Such great people who are more than helpful, and will talk your ear off if you are interested. The lovely ladies are MORE than generous with the pours too. Do yourself a favor and come. You will leave very happy. They also have a nice little restaurant on site to soak up the booze.

Yelp
Had a fun time doing the Behind the Scenes tour with our guide Peter. Hubby and I were most pleased with everything. The ONLY thing is if you want to fill your own bottle straight from the cask DO NOT purchase it online! Only in person since the one on line is apparently not the same. We had supposedly bought the personalized bottle and not the straight from the cask when online it stated it was. So we had to buy another bottle to have the experience of filling up our own bottle. Everything else was smooth and easy. We got to try various Jameson bottles giving us a fun rounded tour. I reccomend this to anyone who likes to drink. Just an fyi the original distillery is the Bow straight in Dublin. This is their 2nd location.

Yelp
JAMESON EXPERIENCE Our guided tour to the Jameson Experience in Midleton started unusually - with a fire drill. It finished, as usual, with a tasting, and then the conversations started between the Germans, the Irish, the Americans, the French and the rest! A drink of the popular Irish whiskey is included in your ticket but you can also volunteer, like I did, for the tasting. That consists of sampling three different whiskeys: Scotch, Jameson and American. At the end you get a certificate of competence if you guess the right answer, which is Jameson, of course! All good fun. The Old Distillery in Midleton ceased production in 1975 after 150 years of production and the Jameson Experience was opened to the public in 1992. The tour takes you through the history and you see the world's largest Pot Still, an impressive and still working 160 year old Water Wheel and the original distillery buildings. After your tasting, you may linger in the bar, check the souvenir ship or have a meal at the Malt House Restaurant. All in all, quite an interesting tour but remember the fire drill is not guaranteed. By the way, production continues in the new distillery on an adjacent site.

Yelp
Well, it helps if you like whiskey. I happen to like (love) whiskey. I happen to like Jameson as a reliable, affordable, everyday whiskey that goes down niiiice and smoooooth. I really enjoyed the tour we had of the distillery. We were here in March, so the weather was a bit damp and dreary which helped keep hordes of tourists at bay. This location is also in Midleton, Co. Cork, as opposed to the one in Dublin which also helps keep the crowds down. Our guide was an adorably, wonderfully Irish girl with an awesome Brogue, as well as being knowledgeable and personable. Love it. You first tour the grounds and stills (amazing, all that whiskey just waiting to get in my belleh) and hear about the history of Jameson. The grounds are beautiful, the original buildings kept nicely. The best part, however, is the tasting at the end. Oh yes. You are escorted into a Jameson's own, authentic Irish bar, then handed a glass of the good stuff which you can sit and drink at your leisure. Delicious! So glad we made this a stop on our itinerary during our trip. Whiskey lovers, you will, too!

Yelp
This was our last stop in Cork. The tour was about 1.30 and worth it & you even get a tipple on the way through to the gift shop (subtle :-) ) One of the musts for the area, it's good to step back in time and visit a real historic institution even if you are not a big fan of whiskey "

Yelp
I had a fantastic time here. The history of Jameson is quite fascinating. You spend the entire experience in the old buildings. You can see all the high tech newer buildings from the grounds but you don't get to visit them. The gift shop is where your eyes will really light up. Ask what you can't get at home and let that be your buying guide.

Yelp
The whiskey apprentice tour in Middleton offers a truly in-depth look at the Middleton distillery and distilling as a whole. For those interested in both the mechanics and the craftsmanship in creating a distilled final product, this tour is immeasurably beneficial. With a limit of seven visitors per tour you'll find it to be both intimate and memorable. Included are almost all the most captivating details of all the other experiences as well as a few exclusive ones. For a final note, the description on the Jameson website does list a new make spirit tasting included in the apprentice tour. Please be sure to get clarification on that. When I took the tour, unfortunately I was not given said opportunity. I was only able to explore the new make via sense of smell. Overall, this is a stop well worth your time. Slainte!

Yelp
AMAZING. I went on the stars tour and loved every minute of it and found it to be very informative. Our tour guide was lovely and knowledgeable. Loved walking around the grounds and learning about the brand and whiskey making. The bar is nice for an after tour drink and the gift shop has a great selection for the Jameson lover. It's a must do if you're near Cork.

Yelp
Very interesting tour. They have a lot of old tools, trucks, barrels, etc on site which was pretty interesting to look at. The most interesting part was when they showed the whiskey in the barrels at different stages of the aging process. Pretty cool!
