The Michael Garden (Mikhaylovskiy Sad) is situated between Moyka River, Saviour of the Spilled Blood Church, Russian State Museum and Michael Palace that makes a nice place to visit during visits to St. Petersburg. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (May to October).
The garden was designed to complement the Michael (Mikhaylovskiy) Palace which was built between 1819-1825 by Carlo Rossi. It was notably refurbished in 2002 and reopened to the next year. The park is quite attractive, offering a good reprieve from the urban scene on the nearby city streets.
We very much enjoyed the walking paths and numerous park benches found throughout. The area near the river is delightfully peaceful, particularly during the long days of July. We also found Mikhaylovskiy Sad to be quite shady this time of year being full of trees flush green foliage.
Overall, we liked our time spent at Mikhaylovskiy Sad. It is a convenient place for a quick visit for those planning combined visits to Saviour of the Spilled Blood Church and Russian State Museum.
