On the Grid : Mikhailovsky Garden

"A good place to make a picnic after visiting the Savior-on-the-Blood. It is forbidden to sit on lawns according to the old Russian tradition, but this rule is practically not controlled. So if you see that someone has settled on the grass, join safely. In extreme cases, you will be asked to leave the lawn on the bench." - Infographicsmag

A beautiful place for a walk with lots of history. The garden is part of the Russian Museum complex and is situated next to the Mikhailovsky Palace. It dates back to the early 18th century when it was part of the estates and hunting grounds of a Swedish noble. After the region's conquest by the Russians, it became part of the imperial estates and was developed by Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Le Blond. Its a bit better than my garden at home.

Beutiful and peceful and clean park to have a rest from walking or just sit on the bench and enjoy. Lot of flowers.

Not as well known as the Summer gardens, where everybody goes, which is great. That means this park is not as overcrowded like its neighbor. As well good that the entrance to the Russian museum is not in the park side. All of this make this park the perfect way to rest after visiting the church on the spilled blood. My advice, and I hope not everybody will follow it (the park will become overcrowded as well), is this is the perfect place to rest. Enjoy it.

Amazing garden! So beautiful 😍 right in the center next to church of the savior on the spilled blood. Nearby is a nice restaurant and inside the lovely garden there is a cozy cafe and plenty of snacks kiosks.

It is one the beauties of the city. Wonderful for spent some time with children or as a romantic date. Plenty of exotic vegetation and with a romantic pound rebuild in 1998.

The Michael Garden (Mikhaylovskiy Sad) is situated between Moyka River, Saviour of the Spilled Blood Church, Russian State Museum and Michael Palace that makes a nice place to visit during visits to St. Petersburg. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (May to October). The garden was designed to complement the Michael (Mikhaylovskiy) Palace which was built between 1819-1825 by Carlo Rossi. It was notably refurbished in 2002 and reopened to the next year. The park is quite attractive, offering a good reprieve from the urban scene on the nearby city streets. We very much enjoyed the walking paths and numerous park benches found throughout. The area near the river is delightfully peaceful, particularly during the long days of July. We also found Mikhaylovskiy Sad to be quite shady this time of year being full of trees flush green foliage. Overall, we liked our time spent at Mikhaylovskiy Sad. It is a convenient place for a quick visit for those planning combined visits to Saviour of the Spilled Blood Church and Russian State Museum.
