Lovely, lovely experience! Calming vibe. Peaceful. Go with the intent of just chilling out. Best crabs I have EVER tasted! Food presented beautifully, fresh and tasteful.||Requested service in our room due to concern with another patron and received this request with no problems. A headache for them, but they completed it without a concern!||The Nepal (I believe) young lady who almost acted as our own personal butler and server was personable, professional and a true delight.. from personalized checkin, food service and concierge service, she did it all! She may have been their dedicated English speaker, as the majority of the staff appear fluent only in Japanese…able to communicate, but not comfortably.||The property is gorgeous! Quintessential old world Japanese. The lobby area is huge, and the interior hall to rooms is lovely. Our humongous 3 section room/suite overlooked the Japanese gardens and was so tranquil that we wished we could have stayed MUCH longer.||Beautiful selection of Yukatas and shoes for wearing around town, and another Yukata (with wearing instructions) to wear in your room. They have this cute rattan stand to assist with putting on the Japanese shoes (a tribute to them thinking of everything). (I tried desperately to buy one on Amazon to help with elderly balance… but was rejected 4 times for delivery to the U.S.A. from Japan Amazon Shipping).||We utilized every bath they had, men, women and private. All perfect- (although one of the private baths is nothing more than a large tub).||The property is almost at the end of this quaint little town, but the town is beautifully walkable and tiny. After one walk through, (which could easily be walked in, at most, a slow 30 minutes if you didn’t stop) you are fully acquainted with the town. We were there in late October, and many areas were closed as it was slow season but this contributed to the charm.||Our first choice Ryokan did not have availability for our stay, but I cannot imagine how it could have been any better! Just get off the train, catch the bus delivering folks to their selected stays, tell them ‘Mikiya’ |and relax. After other guest drop offs, you’ll be met at the entrance (as long as they have been advised of your arrival time) with a warm and welcoming introduction to this fantastic, memorable Ryokan!

We stayed here before crab season starts. The food seemed to be of high quality but as foreigners there were many dishes we weren’t used to. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the opportunity to have an authentic experience. The hotel lobby was beautiful and rooms were very cool. The futons were much more comfier than we imagined. The hotel staff were excellent and location was perfect right in the middle of town where you can easily walk anywhere. Highly recommended.

Staying here for our honeymoon, we were treated beautifully, top service of the staff and the room was big and comfortable. Of course it’s a hotel that has his years and was renovated, but that’s what makes it so special! that’s the whole deal of booking in the hotel, the years and history of it! If you cannot appreciate that, then you better book in a hotel more touristic🫠. If you can appreciate history, memories and Japanese vintage architecture than this is for you…

Treated like royalty!! The staff were very attentive and kind. We were picked up from the station in the shuttle bus abd our luggage was placed in our rooms for us. They also helped us choose cute and comfortable yukata for wearing around the town to the public onsen baths. Dinner service was impeccable as well. Mikiya has stunning garden views which are breathtaking. We were lucky enough to have this view from our room also. Private dining space. Traditional kaiseki dinner experience was great. The whole place was quiet and extremely comfortable. Private baths are stunning and well looked after. The experience was absolutely a 12/10! Highly recommend visiting this ryokan.

Unforgettable Stay with Private Onsen & Incredible Crab Feast! Our recent stay at this onsen hotel in Japan was nothing short of exceptional. Everything—from the peaceful atmosphere to the warm hospitality—exceeded our expectations. The highlight of our trip was the great services, good location and private onsen on the property, which offered the perfect blend of relaxation, tradition, and privacy. the hotel /ryokan is an old hotel but well maintained, with a tranquil ambiance that made it feel like our own hidden retreat. We were able to reserve a time and enjoy the onsen, completely undisturbed. We stayed on 3/6 , snow crab season! And the dinner? Absolutely phenomenal. We were served a generous multi-course meal featuring the freshest local crab and local beef, sashimi, , and more. Every dish was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Not only was it delicious, but there was so much food, we were completely full and happy by the end of the night. The service throughout our stay was outstanding, thanks to the incredible staff and landlord. I got motion sickness from train ride and arrived early. Tomoko Kataoka made me feel genuinely welcome, served drink, checked me in early and had the bed ready for me to rest. Sapana brought such joy and warmth to each interaction— took me to the room, it felt like we were being taken care of by an old friend. Thanks to all, your services is professional, kind, and attentive, making sure every little detail was just right. Next morning Zura was waiting for us for breakfast feast. We left feeling refreshed, well-fed, and truly cared for. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with top-notch hospitality, a soothing private onsen, and a mouthwatering seafood feast—this is the place. Thank you very much Tomoko, Sapana and Zura Can’t wait to return.

My patents along with my sister and me stayed in Mikiya hotel for one night. Everything about this lodging experience is top notch. We had a great time and enjoyed the public/ private baths inside the hotel. The dinner we ordered is half crab and half beef kaiseki-ryori style. Took us two and a half hours to finish the meal but so delicious that we have nothing but a full belly to complain about! Even the weather was freezing cold in Kinosaki while we were there, Mikiya provided us a heart-warming room and board that we just want to stay put inside.

We loved our stay here. We got room 22 which was spacious and had two beautiful views into the garden. Plus it had a steam room in the bathroom. It was luxurious and peaceful. The private onsens were lovely as well and one was always available. The dining room was private despite it being in one location for everyone. If you’re considering staying here, I recommend it!

Yelp
Mikiya was the second ryokan experience for my wife and I. We were coming from across the street, Nishimuraya Honkan. We checked out of Nishimuraya and went to Mikiya to drop off our bags so that we can roam the streets of Kinosakionsen free from the weight. They happily kept our bags and would later be already inside our rooms when we checked in. During check in, Hiro-san walked us through the ryokan and we picked out our own yukata for walking around in. When he showed us to our room, I was surprised. I knew I did not book this room. Mikiya had upgraded us from a standard room with a garden view to a deluxe room with a garden view. It was a nice surprise. Mikiya has two public indoor onsen for guests to use, and one private that is opened to anyone. No reservations needed, no time limit. Just go in, lock the door and its yours to use. The garden at Mikiya was nice, but it is only for viewing from a distance in your room, or at the porch on the main floor. Unlike Nishimuraya Honkan's garden, guests cannot stroll around the garden. Also unlike our prior experience, the kaiseki dinner and breakfast is served at the cafeteria room. The cafeteria has private cubicles so that you still have that privacy. The food was delicious. Our stay at Mikiya was great, Hiro-san drove us to the train station after we checked out. It was during the ride that I finally asked about the elephant in the room; Hiro-san's English compared to the rest we've came across in Japan. I'll let you find out on your own when you stay at Mikiya.
