Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House - Manhattan - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"A couple weeks ago, we told you about Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House opening in Flushing. It’s an all-you-can-eat shabu spot where you can buy NFTs for priority reservations, and memberships for cheaper AYCE deals. Well, they’ve got a second New York location (and eighth in the country), in Midtown East. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Pleased with my dining experience with Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House in their Flushing location, I had to try their Manhattan location as well! While smaller than their Flushing location, the services and food were just as good. Upon seating, our waiter kindly explained to us that their Manhattan location is smaller than their Flushing location, therefore, the menu and ordering is slightly different. He was thorough and gave clear, detailed instructions leaving no confusion. Unlike the Flushing location, this location has only three wagyu sets to choose from, rather than four. Sadly, there are only four specialty dishes to choose from. Nonetheless, their specialty dishes were still very tasty! Especially their Wagyu Nigiri. A perfect balance of wagyu and rice, neither flavor overwhelming the other. One thing I do like about this is their organized workflow. Since the restaurant is small, the staff would frequently check in. They would grab the specific sauce you want, as well as the drinks, and the dessert. If you prefer to be creative with your sauce, then feel free to try their Flushing location. Still, I am glad to have come here and will try to come again soon with my friends.

I took my daughter for her graduation dinner. We got the highest level which is diamond. It’s $98 per person but it’s worth it since drinks are included for the 90 minutes we’re eating and you can reorder food constantly for that price. We reorder the seafood and side dishes multiple times. If you’re looking for a dinner that’s flavorful and different, this is definitely it. There is no BBQ. I’ll be coming back. Bring your appetite and your wallet because my bill came to $250.

Google
TLDR; amazing service, AYCE high quality meat, tasty waygu Ambiance (5/5): The restaurant is 2 floors with multiple dining rooms. The inside was nice and clean. The aromas of cooking food was welcoming. Nice and bright, reasonable volume that you can hear each other. Service (5/5): The service was exceptional! She was very informative of the whole process and tended to us often for refills. 2 wait staff was running the full the whole time and would be on the ready to take any used plates or re-order any foods we needed. Food (5/5): $78 Gold Waygu set. In the end, we chose gold over the silver since it was only $10 more and had additional cuts that were A5. The cuts of waygu was super tender although we couldn’t really tell the difference between the different waygu cuts. The menu has a choice of 4 starters which includes 1 per person: we had the waygu nigiri (2 pc) and bone marrow (so savory!!). There’s a bunch of unlimited starters, soft drinks, and vegetables. The waitress recommended the pre-set veggie platter and then we chose which ones we wanted after that. There’s unlimited seafood as well including snow crab, scallops, shrimp, etc. The mala spice broth was TOO spicy that even for the spice eaters, became inedible as time went on. There are a choice of pre-made sauces rather than a self-serve sauce station. There was also a preserved egg, used as a dipping sauce. Would recommend 2 people to share the sauces to maximize space, spicy soy sauce being my preferred. Finally, the experience ended with dessert which was green tea mochi and Häagen-Dazs mini ice creams.

Mikiya is a fantastic spot for Japanese comfort food, and while the Manhattan location offers the same amazing, fresh meats and delicious flavors, I personally prefer their Flushing location. One of the standout dishes at Mikiya is their sukiyaki soup it’s absolutely delicious, with rich, deep flavors that warm you from the inside out. The house broth is another highlight it’s light yet flavorful, perfectly balancing the ingredients and bringing everything together beautifully. Both of these dishes really showcase the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail that goes into their cooking. The service is outstanding the staff is friendly, attentive, and always ensures you have a great dining experience. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing food to go, they make you feel welcome and taken care of. The meats are fresh and flavorful, and while the Wagyu over rice was tender and delicious, I found it a bit on the salty side. I also noticed that some elements, like the egg and the Wagyu over rice, were pre-made, which took away a bit of the freshness I enjoy in dishes made to order. The Manhattan location is relatively smaller, which offers a more intimate vibe but differs from the spacious experience in Flushing. Still, the food and service are excellent, and if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit. However, if you have the choice, I’d recommend heading to Flushing for the full experience!

Google
After the first try at the flushing location, I got hooked at this Wagyu all you can eat hotpot, sometimes this is perfect without a heavy spicy broth and premium quality meat instead. This manhattan location has a different menu than flushing, the price and unlimited options are different. At flushing the silver including some of the apps unlimited as well, this location only gold including the unlimited appetizers. Also missing the fruit and dessert bar, missing the sauce bar is a bit inconvenience. I still prefer the flushing offering tbh We all got the highest category at Gold because we don’t want to worry about what to order, meat cuts are very good and fresh. Bone marrow is bomb. Our waiter Collin is a superstar, he kept us refilled at all time and took great care of us. The entrance door was broken when we visited, which is a bit annoying everyone came in just left the door open, and we sat close to the entrance it was cold when it’s snowing outside.

Google
got the $99 per person gold meal. unlimited sliced wagyu. honestly it was very worth it. it came with veggie plate and seafood plate and some appetizers. i dont think the appetizers were necessary at all. we didnt end up eating the fish and the bone marrow was actually difficult to eat. stick the the meat. any meat that came out was perfect. we all got sukiyaki broth. the meal was phenomenal and we all left full and happy. the pumpkin was surprisingly good. we asked for extra. the place isn’t incredibly clean or big, but the value is there.

Google
This is my honest review. After seeing such a high rating on Google, my friend and I immediately came to this restaurant because we were interested in Wagyu beef. However, everything here was extremely disappointing. As soon as we walked in, we were hit by an overwhelmingly greasy smell. The soda I ordered had an oily film floating on top and was clearly flat. When I asked the server to replace it, he insisted that he had just poured it and that there was nothing wrong with it. The seafood was obviously not fresh. As for the beef—just watch my video. This is real footage. Not a single dish in this restaurant satisfied me, and the hygiene conditions are concerning. I seriously doubt the authenticity of the reviews here. Once again, I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Google
5-Star ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Wagyu Spot I can’t speak highly enough about this delicious place!🤤 Premium cuts of Wagyu meat, various appetizers, and seafood platters are waiting for you! AYCE packages starting as low as $45 p/p. We went for the best one - a $98 Diamond package that includes unlimited premium cuts of wagyu meat, unlimited appetizers, such as bone marrow, Wagyu tartar, sweet shrimp, and Wagyu sushi, a fabulous seafood platter and veggies! It’s a 90-minute dining experience and every dish was coming out very fast, so please come very hungry! Yang and Kyle were super friendly and helpful with making our food decisions. . 😋Happy food coma is guaranteed!

Yelp
Finally, a Mikiya that doesn't have hour long waits (yet)! I'm from California and have been to the Santa Clara location. I came on a weekend around 2pm and was able to be seated pretty immediately. We sat upstairs in the corner for a group of 5. I was worried about being in the corner but our server was extremely attentive and checked on us more than enough times! Service was great and we got our meat very fast! The only issue with this location is that there's no self-serve sauce, veggie, drink, ice cream bar so you have to order that with your waiter. Small price to pay though! Food is delicious. We did the silver set but I highly recommend trying the gold set if you're willing to shell out the money. My favorite base is the sukiyaki base - you don't need sauce if you use that as your base. Save room for dessert! Membership is $28/year and it gives 2 people a discount on the set and a free birthday meal. 100% worth it.

Yelp
After sitting down as a table of 4, we order right away - it took us 45 minutes to get our first order. The servers were not attentive. The meat was completely frozen and stuck to the trays and it was not very tasty as it was very frozen. When we were low on broth, all they did was just add water to the broth. When dipping our meat into the broth, it tasted like nothing. It was definitely not a premium experience.

Yelp
This place is overrated, below are some of my feedback based on the experience we had: * Pricing Concerns: I was surprised to find that my 12-year-old was charged the full adult price ( they go by height). While some establishments offer tiered pricing for children, Mikiya does not provide such distinctions, which I found unreasonable. * Service Issues: When requesting refills of the unlimited side dishes, there were significant delays. On multiple occasions, we had to remind the staff about our requests, which detracted from the dining experience. Given these factors, the meal did not provide good value for the price paid.

Yelp
TLDR: This is the year of ACYE wagyu. Mikiya is a solid place, although Flushing is saturated with hot pot; this experience is quite different from the rest. Stick with the recommended broths of sukiyaki and miso. I'd say unless you are planning to eat a massive amount of wagyu - the second highest package is enough. Japanese wagyu buffets seems to be the new thing now. I've been twice and definitely stick to the recommended broths. The first time I didn't and it wasn't as enjoyable as the second. Use your buffet instincts and don't fill up on the free apps and fried stuff. Although the money is in the Japanese wagyu - I actually like the Australian M9 beef more and you can get unlimited Japanese brisket on the second highest package. The M9 ribeye cap is my jam and don't sleep on the curry either. Service can get a bit inconsistent during peak hours but overall they're trying and I didn't feel ignored. Kids also eat for free below a certain height and there are some larger tables to acommodate for families and big groups. Veggies are downstairs so you will need to go run for those on re-ups.

Yelp
For the price, it's hard to beat this new AYCE spot that serves actual Japanese Wagyu (not that genetically watered down American crap). However, everything else is about the same quality level as other AYCE hot pot spots, and it's worth noting that the Manhattan location doesn't offer AYCE sashimi like the Flushing location. So you're paying more for less. Another major annoyance was that we made a reservation for 6, but they only have one 6-seater table in the whole restaurant--everything else is a 2- to 4-seater. So we had to awkwardly spread out over two booths that weren't even adjacent but one in front of the other (in their private area), making it nearly impossible for the middle people to see each other and converse naturally. Why would you build your restaurant with only 4-seater tables that can't even be re-arranged?
google avatar

Larissa B.

Yelp
Small shabu shabu spot but easy to make reservations in Yelp or Google. Part of the chubby group, so you get great discounts as a member or nft holder. We did the diamond set all you can eat and everything that came was high quality and tasty, they have a great selection of different wagyu cuts, fresh seafood, veggies and snacks that were unlimited. The waiters were attentive, and the house and sukiyaki broths were good. It was a little pricey, but the quality of food and amount that we got, it was a good deal. Biggest difference between this and a tiers down is the unlimited seafood platter and apps. Other sets come with one seafood platter anyways, so I would go with those! (Silver or gold set)

Yelp
This place is amazing. The meat is ridiculously good, esp the brisket. We got the gold basket, which is the medium option you can choose, and we were very happy with it. For the special option, we got the shrimp and bone marrow - both were good but I'd recommend the shrimp. Limited non-meat options but who cares - they still have the staples, like tong ha and Napa cabbage, which we got repeated orders of. For sauces, my favorites were the egg yolk for dipping the meats in and the minced garlic/red peppers/cilantro. We put ourselves on the waitlist before arriving on a Friday night. Glad we did bc it was pretty packed. Highly recommend and will definitely return!

Yelp
For $45 AYCE with unlimited nigiri, minced wagyu, wagyu curry, spicy clams, seaweed, milk tea, mushrooms, and meats for the hotpot, that's a really good deal! Lowkey I thought the side dishes were better than the hotpot. We got the miso and house broth, both were quite bland. I know there's a sauce bar, but it didn't add the right flavors that I wanted. Cooking the meats in the broth is a crucial part of my hotpot experience and since it's bland I was a bit disappointed. I would probably get the tomato next time since the miso and the house broth were nearly identical. I'm not a fan of sukiyaki, so that option isn't really an option for me. The meats option were a variety of Wagyu and a pork option. Since it's wagyu, it got sickening pretty quick. By the end of our meal, 75% of the pot was fat. Now the side dishes were great! The sashimis and nigiri were fresh and nicely marinated in a tangy sauce. The shrimp tempura was also good. I didn't really like the curry wagyu, but the mince wagyu was pretty good, wouldn't load up on it though. The spicy clams and seaweed were a nice touch, both good and tasted like what you would expect. There's a soda fountain, but I thought the milk tea was delicious! It wasn't too sweet and was creamy. Honestly better than most boba shops in NYC (aside from 3 places I can think of). Service was pretty good, I would have wanted them to come and refill our broth more often.

Yelp
Amazing value for incredible food. We got the Gold tier membership and found it more than enough. The A5 Japanese Wagyu Brisket (unlimited with Gold) was even better than the ribeye and shoulder cut that comes unlimited with the platinum tier. Incredibly high quality meat all around. Also highly recommend the Sukiyaki broth (sweet and salty pairs well with the fatty wagyu), Wagyu nigiri, and cold sides. Spicy miso broth was OK but not our favorite. Seafood was also good, but the meat was truly the star of the show. Food service was fast and the haagen dazs ice cream was a nice touch. The only feedback I'd give is to improve front of house. There were three groups waiting aimlessly next to a cold door. The front of house member seemed busy communicating with upstairs but never let us know what was going on (eg how long the wait was) Got the membership and would come back again and again. Can't beat the value for Wagyu here

Yelp
I was stoked when I heard that Mikiya was opening in NYC since I had such a great experience at the NorCal location. For some reason, I was underwhelmed by this location...maybe because it is way less spacious, there isn't a sauce bar, and there's no self-serve vegetable station. Quality of the meat is still great though and they peel the amaebi for you here! Great experience for those trying AYCE wagyu shabu for the first time but maybe not so much for those who've been to the other Mikiya locations.
google avatar

Palupol M.

Yelp
Jacky he is a good server. The quality of meats was great. Soup base good The mochi greentea ice cream was great.
google avatar

Sheena B.

Yelp
10/10 EVERY SINGLE TIME. This is literally my favorite hotpot shabu place of all time. I will say it's a more expensive shabu spot but it's AYCE with quality meats and seafood like Japanese wagyu and crab legs. We always get the house broth and sukiyaki. The service is extremely quick to replenish the meats and this location in particular looms small but it has a second floor with more seating. Highly recommend for special occasions or honestly anytime haha
google avatar

Yessica G.

Yelp
Exceptional dining experience! The Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful - the best we've ever had. Kevin's attentive and friendly service took it to the next level. We'll be back!
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
They have a good phone demeanor. Very knowledgeable about the menu. We were seated right away but I did not like our small table. The lights were too bright and the music doesn't suit to the ambience. Service was good enough for Asian restaurant. He was attentive but can be forgetful at times. Food is excellent in quality. I love the fact that it is not over msg. The selections of seafood, appetizers and wagyu were super fresh and flavorful. We had the 100 per person for unlimited seafood, appetizers and wagyu.
google avatar

Debbie D.

Yelp
Been waiting for more hot pot place to open in Manhattan. I usually go to dolar shop but I'm glad we have more options now. I came during grand opening and was very happy with the food and service. Johnny was very attentive and kind. Food was very good and fresh. I recommend getting sweet shrimp appetizer, sukiyaki broth, rice over minced meat, rib eye and pork meat. The seafood was also really good. Overall I will come back because both my husband and I got the membership.
google avatar

Emmie C.

Yelp
A place where you can buy membership to get cheaper menu price. 3 different levels of prices: silver, gold and diamond. You have 90 minutes of unlimited eating, including unlimited wagyu.
google avatar

Nan N.

Yelp
Lovely nice spot and good service I came in thanksgiving. Its very busy right there But the food still good :)
google avatar

Kelly Z.

Yelp
Complaints about 2 of the items on their menu. Ordered the mochi ice cream for dessert and it tasted like it was refrozen. Skin was terrible and not mochi-like at all. Worst experience with their karaage / fried chicken bites. One of the pieces was a skin piece with feathers still on it. Images attached Service and Wagyu was great, but would say above 2 points really destroyed my experience at Mikiya
google avatar

Kenny C.

Yelp
The service and quality of the food is great. I will definitely be coming back again. Shout out to our server Yang - super nice guy!
google avatar

Yoojin L.

Yelp
Food was very delicious as always (we went to the flushing for diamond set and came here for the gold set) Would recommend the gold set rather than diamond set unless you are there for the lobsters/lamb chop/sashimi Personally preferred the full blood Australian wagyu over the Japanese wagyu due to less fatty texture and if you are looking to eat more. Only downside is this place slightly smaller in comparison to the flushing location but that's understandable due to it being in the city.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
All-you-can-eat wagyu was great! The fish/grouper was fresh. And the "fortune bags" under vegetables is actually really good, too! Though I have to note that the fortune bags are not vegetables- it has shrimp and some fish roe. Our server, Wei, was attentive and filled up our wagyu without fail whenever we were on our last plate.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
3rd visit another phenomenal experience with Yang food and service were perfect. Yang always goes above and beyond making sure everything is taken care of and making sure we have enough food.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Came here with my wife for birthday dinner, we opted for the second tier/gold $68 per head Soup base we went with sukiyaki and house broth Appetizers we got king crab, lamb chops, live shrimp, abalone and yellowtail/salmon carpaccio Wagyu we ordered the shoulder, brisket and ribeye, the shoulder was our least favorite because once you cook it, it gets really small, brisket was good and the ribeye was the best cut of the three due to being a larger and meatier cut, wasn't as fatty and you eat it in one bite, the only con is the meat are sliced very thin, then you dip the meat in raw egg that they provide which makes it taste better and not greasy, after we finished the wagyu we tried the Australian wagyu, the ribeye was good, brisket as well, we started eating veggies to balance out the high fat content of the wagyu with some tong hao, fish balls, seafood, soup, sashimi, lamb chops, side dishes, abalone. The vegetable, sauces, drinks stands are all very clean and easy to get what you want, vegetables, tofu, fish balls, you name it We liked the cleanliness of the place, the quality and freshness of the ingredients and service was quick I do recommend they include a ma la broth since some people like spicy

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Very comfortable ambiance. Had gold. Worth the value. We had a good time

Yelp
I have come here 2 times, It's very good quality and delicious. Wagyu is so good. Good service. The ambiance is comfortable. I will come back again
google avatar

Yelp
What a refreshing hotpot concept in Flushing. Honestly, with all the same hotpot restaurants popping up in Flushing. This by far is the best one! After eating the different cuts of Wagyu, I can never go back to store bought generic beef slices. The sashimi selection is fresh, too! Everything is perfect. From the free drinks, sauces, and the SERVICE! our waitress was Hannah, and I've never had such attentive service in Flushing before! She bought me drink and sauces because I couldn't get out of my seat due to the tight space. Did I say free desserts?
google avatar

Theresa L.

Yelp
Their Yelp waitlist is literally pointless. We put our names down & the estimated seating time was an hour and a half. There were still 16 tables in front of us 15 minutes before estimated seating time, so we called and they said that they cannot guarantee that we will even be sat tonight.... The waitlist should be more accurate/closed if they're anticipating being booked for the rest of the night.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
Crazy to see one of our favorite west coast shabu places here in nyc. This is a staple in our winter rotation and now we can have it on both coasts. Service and food quality are top notch. We usually do the gold, and think it's a great value for all the premium wagyu cuts you're getting. After a certain point, it's so fatty and rich that you won't really enjoy more and more marbling. Especially when you're doing it shabu style. We like the seafood platter that comes with it as well, scallops and abalone are so good to finish your meal. From the sauce bar, get your own rice station to the ice cream at the end, this is one of the best shabu experiences anywhere in America.
google avatar

Goddess D.

Yelp
The service is excellent. Meat, sides and all of the dishes are really high-quality. Really get a lot for your money.
google avatar

Felix C.

Yelp
I thought the food was quite good - the broth and meat was delicious, especially the brisket. I also liked the vegetables, mushrooms, the bone marrow and Wagyu sashimi. The side order of fried chicken was not very good and can be skipped. The service was great, fast and attentive. I will say that the floor was super slippery and the whole stairwell was basically covered with splashes of broth and sauce from the staff having to carry everything upstairs from the kitchen downstairs. This is not due to anyone's fault but was a bit unpleasant. I am going to try the Flushing one to see if it has a better layout that makes the meal less anxiety-provoking for me.
google avatar

Stephen L.

Yelp
The food was fresh, I enjoyed the various types of beef. But the service was the most exceptional. Yang and the other servers took care of our large and loud group, he was always present to help us clear plates and tracking all our orders. We had a great time!
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Great customer service and management were quick with resolving any issues we had. The cocktails were great
google avatar

Beiyan H.

Yelp
Very nice place for Japanese style hot pot. Little small. Reservations always better than walk in. Meat quality is top notch. Presentation is excellent! Soup base choices are great! Overall very good experience. Will come again but definitely with empty stomach so you can enjoy unlimited meat options. Of course it's not cheap but worth it. Will recommend to friends and family.

Tai T.

Yelp
The experience is outstanding. Selene was our waitress and she did a phenomenal job at our table. We got the gold package. Would come back again.
google avatar

Brett C.

Yelp
Great food and amazing staff Yang sat us to go t sway and Wei took care of us and ensured we had a great meal!!!! Will definitely come back!

紫薇

Yelp
The waiter with a table in front of me had a very bad attitude, and gave a table to the guest behind me without prior notice, with bad attitude and average taste. Flushing restaurant blacklist +1
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Wei was the man. He took good care of us and was always on top of everything. We never waited to ask for orders and it really meant a lot especially given this is an ayce restaurant where margins matter
google avatar

Elisabeth Y.

Yelp
I have extreme gluten sensitivity and they did not have anything on the menu to accommodate me. All their broths have gluten. If you like your meat and vegetables boiling in hot water without flavor yeah you can dine there, but otherwise go somewhere else.
google avatar

Samantha U.

Yelp
Waited over 30 min past reservation- no apology or hospitality given for the delay. The food was okay- nothing bad nothing out of this world. Out of the whole sake menu they only had 2 of the options a 50 dollar big bottle or $79 bottle- this was annoying as it was only for one person and had to order a huge bottle that I didn't want just to have a few glasses.

Terry T.

Yelp
Christine service was top tier. A+++. She was really patient, calm and professional. She broke down all the types of meat and we decided to go with the diamond tier ! She was fantastic and when we come back next time, we will pick her! Thank you for giving us the best experience! My family said because of her, it made the experience even better! #teamchristine
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
This might actually be the best hot pot I've ever eaten. It's all you can eat A5 Japanese Wagyu. You might think the service is slow but the food comes out a minute after you order. The waiters are highly highly attentive. This really is a luxury experience. We tried the diamond package which was worth every penny. They have little snacks like Wagyu Nigiri and wagyu tartar too. You need to try this place

Yelp
Very good service and food quality. The best shabu shabu experience. Thanks to our waiter Yang!!

Yelp
This place has amazing AYCE wagyu beef and other seafood options. Must come for foodies. This place has exceptional service!!

Yelp
Great food and great service from Yang, highly recommended! Really enjoyed the A5 wagyu and M3 wagyu

Yelp
The food was good quality and good taste. We were served by Yang, he's super attentive and responsive, really good service.

Yelp
Review: I visited Mikiya today, and it exceeded all my expectations! The food was really really good! The staff Yang were attentive and knowledgeable. He was quick to help with any questions we had about the broths, sauces, and ingredients.

Tammy N.

Yelp
House Broth and Spicy Miso were the broths we chose and loved them both. My friend and I decided to eat here on our last night visiting NY. Broth is extremely flavorful and not watered down. Premium chuck ribeye was my favorite cut. Super tender and melts in your mouth. Our waiter Yang provided exceptional service!

Zihao G.

Yelp

Yelp
First time trying the wagyu shabu, taste really good. Me and my friend ordered a lot since it's all you can eat, will definitely visit again
