On the Grid : Milk The Cow

"Milk The Cow came to Carlton! Originally set up in St Kilda, it's a great addition to the Lygon strip. Greeted by a full cabinet of all of the cheese and an abundance of wine you'll be set for the evening. And we mean all of the cheese, with more than 180 different varieties up for grabs! If you're indecisive, you're in trouble." - Seven Seeds

Great place to sample wonderful cheese and wine. We enjoyed some $10 specials to start, available until 6pm and then had a tasty fondue with bread and a side of potatoes. Huge range of cheese to purchase. Great service.

Amazing fromage and charcuterie. The terrines were also grea, the pork and duck. Champagne by the glass was a nice surprise too as we didn’t feel like a bottle. Service was a bit of a miss, they forgot some of the salami we ordered and they took our order for lavish crackers only to come back later and say they don’t have any (had to deduct a star). Other than that atmosphere was great, fromage, champagne and cold cuts were brilliant. Will be back.

A must try experience! You need to love cheese and go feeling hungry. The staff are so informative and sooo professional. Go for the cheese flight with your fav drink set as a classic option. There are also some amazing hot cheese options (fondue drool) that are stunning! Be sure to book ahead as it’s a busy little ‘hole on the wall’ on perhaps the most iconic Melbourne street.

First time here with a friend and we had an awesome time. Love the ambience, the food/wine and the service. We were here at 6 pm on a Friday night, and this was certainly a great way to kick start our weekend. We ordered: * small Cheese and Wine flight (with 4 cheese matched to 4 boutique wines) - we loved the combination of the soft cheese with the chardonnay the most * Kaas Mit Wein Zu Kochen (Classic fondue. Swiss Gruyere, Appenzeller, Comte& Emmenthal, cooked with wine) * Baked Brie (An entire wheel of Yarra Valley Yering Bathed in sparkling wine, Cognac, honey, fig, pistachio, cranberry, port & orange) Enjoyed everything we ordered, the highlight is definitely the fondue, you can really taste the cheese with the wine, just the perfect combination of the melting cheese and bread. Can't wait to visit them again to try their other cheese and wines :) yum

Edit Nov 2023 Revisited with friends recently and decided to update my review upwards as we had a pleasant experience and the waitress was absolutely delightful - visited Wed 3pm. Also uploading some pics of their latest menu, their desert wine flight has returned, and there's also a non alcoholic wine flight added! ************************************** Service quality seems to have dropped. Not sure what the problem was but the waitress seemed incredibly snobby, like she had better things to do than spend her afternoon serving us nobodies, not the welcome I wanted for my first time guests. I hadn't visited for a while but previously always had a wonderful time here but I guess the only difference this time was that one of my guest wore religious head gear? We were also hassled by random street person seeking money change (which is a common occurrence here really) I know that's not the restaurant's fault, but combined with that service, will probably consider st Kilda first next time, or perhaps a different service time (cuz the food itself, cheese and wine flight was still brilliantly paired) - last visited mid March 2023 around 4pm. They also asked for a tip at the end.

Mega yum! If you love cheese then this is home! The aromatics, the collection, the balance menu, the wine list and the knowledge of the staff just tick all the boxes for the enjoyment of this experience. Come with a good appetite and let your senses take you to an amazing world of cheese.

Great place for cheese lovers. Highly recommend the beer or wine tasting flights paired with the right cheeses . Baked cheese cake for desert is a must !

Milk the Cow had an amazing variety of cheeses and wines. We ordered the 4 cheese cheeseboard which was customisable to our liking with the help of a friendly, knowledgeable staff member. The dim lit, wooden themed fromagerie was cosy (loved the swing too!) despite being so packed inside. The service was a bit slow - could be due to how busy they were, but overall it was such a great experience!
